Yar’Adua spent just three years in office, and since his demise, we’ve had eight years of remote governance from Buhari and are now set for another eight under Tinubu. Instead of allocating funds to that empty clinic, wouldn’t it make more sense to spend the money on something else?

Patience wasn’t the president, and if I remember correctly, Yar’Adua wasn’t flying abroad every month for medical treatment like Buhari and Tinubu, so my point still stands.

Nigerian politicians will never learn. I’m sure that if the government had invested in our healthcare system, someone like Ekweremadu wouldn’t be in jail today. Since the APC came into power, Nigeria has been the only country in the world whose president is publicly known to receive medical treatment abroad.

The way I see it, any primary care setting should have 6 things. This goes for all teaching hospitals and for all centres that will cater to a Governor or President

That is X Ray, Ultrasound, Mammography, MRI, CT and a Pathology lab for bloods

This alongside other small fry instruments like ECG machine are just for diagnostic purposes so they can determine what's wrong, not for treatment purposes.

After these have done their work, they can then decide if water done pass garri and they need to fly you abroad. I would like to imagine Presidential clinic has these things in any country and the cost of the above is no less than N15bln all in before we start talking of operational expenditure

I agree with you. My main issue with the money being allocated is that someone, somewhere, is embezzling the funds intended for that clinic. They might as well shut it down for good, since they’re always traveling abroad for medical treatment anyway.

In a country where primary school teachers earn less than N40k and are still owed salaries, it’s absurd that these presidents would consider it reasonable to allocate such a large budget to a facility that, according to Buhari’s wife, didn’t even have paracetamol as far back as 2016. Why waste scarce resources on a hospital no one is going to use? Wouldn’t that money be better spent in areas that actually need it? After all, based on your own post, the hospital isn’t even properly equipped to stop them from flying abroad for treatment. Las las….na oguuun go deal with them.
