Hi Dunka,

The one i've installed is still doing great with no issue whatso-ever, infact the house had a nasty surge experience during a recent thunderstorm that took out the clients apc surge protector along with is LCD TV shocked; however the inverter survived responding adequately with a total system shutdown (the client actually thought it was fried, he didnt even try rebooting it! grin). Like i said i havent used cyberpower, and at this point i dont think i ever will use my money to buy it, in terms of efficiency/cost i think the ratio is a no win for me.
By the way what exactly were the shortcomings other users complained of concerning the mustpower unit?

I'm sorry for the late response. You can actually place an order once you register. Are you having any difficulty doing so? If yes, would you prefer I do that for you and forward the invoice to you? The disadvantage is that you won't be able to get real-time updates as regards your transaction status.

Thats not actually correct. What Konga was simply required to do is to partner with the product manufacturer in this case TECHNO for a WIN-WIN strategy. Techno spends money on advertisement, publicity and marketing staff. Offering a few units at a deep discount would have been offset by any of those cost.

I think Konga handled there execution in a very lousy and sloppy manner.

Gozie Diora: I'm very much conversant with the rudiments of software project management/evaluation and team works, so I do know the personels needed in software teams apart from techs but as you said, one has to cut out on some things for a start. I've been a victim of unfavourable circumstances in the past, bro as this is not my first time of participating in group projects though never as a leader. You said I need skills I, as the leader, don't have and I don't think the Internet is the best approach to evaluating the competence of a prospective member as a dog can claim to be a lady online (Bill Gate). I suppose you know the effect of dropping a member half way (Linus Law). Instead of starting a project that will be abandoned half way due to the dissappearance or incompetence of a member, I'd better start off on a hard note and end well.
Plagiarism is not all about already made big shots. In fact, the worst type of plagiarism ever is the theft of mere ideas. You will get me better if you read Mark Zukerberg's Law suits or Apple-Microsoft cases over graphical OS. I've been a victim onece, so Undertand my stand, thanks.
I really dont think we are talking about the same way of kick starting your startup. To be clear my perspective on this prospective startup assumes its going to be bootstrapped.
Given that i assume you want to create a MVP quickly to confirm there is a profitable target market to be had, following which your startup will follow an organic pattern in based your market.
These kind of startup adopt the Lean & Mean approach to get there foot in the door of the market simply because they cant afford to sit around waiting for the perfect cross of chance, opportunity and resources.

And by the way i did read Mark Zukerberg's Law suits also happened to watch the spin of film grin. In this case am talking about the Zukerberg's approach (if the idea is great get started however now! and scale later once your idea is confirmed) or you can take the other approach and hope someone else hasnt seen the potential.

I dont know what area you plan on delving into but even core software tech companies are about a whole lot more than "Tech Specialties" (i suggest you may want to read the book E-Myth for starters).
At this point i would want to assume since you are creating the foundation for the start-up that you most likely will be the team lead. As the Lead element you have a responsibility to determine what other skills (that are not in your core competence) are required for the projects to be executed by your would be start-up, based on this you now know specifically the kind of people you are looking for and which part of the team they will occupy.
The idea of a virtual team is to keep cost low (transport & valued time) since your start-up wont have any revenue stream to start off with (except you are well connected and already have series of jobs awarded even without a coy grin; if that's the case i would suggest OUTSOURCING). This may help keep the focus of your team steady for the grunt work period of your start up (that is assuming they believe in the vision you have sold them), knowing at least there total risk is minimized to intellectual property.
And by the way "Plagiarism" na big word. Issue of plagiarism only comes to light when your product is successful and the cash start rolling in, when everyone is broke a lot of folks will take the risk.
A good read is the book start small, stay small. You can read a sample chapter available online. Entrepreneurship is simply about not being afraid to try, and even in failure to learn something and try again. Entrepreneurs are Crazy folks!

You may want to rethink your criteria based on geological location if you're trying to startup an effective team from the beginning. Why not harness the power of the internet for communication/planning/co ordination? The difficult part will be finding team members that can flow and work together while being committed to your agreed goals and objectives. In Nigeria that's not really as simple as it sounds.

All the best.
Technology MarketRe: Unreliable Cyberpower Inverters by digi101(m): 7:03pm On Sep 26, 2013
hazel_j: @digi101 they finally agreed to fix it under warranty after I spoke to someone there. I have been looking at this inverter the 1000w version and I need to find out something about it for me. What is the floating voltage for the charger on the MUST power inverter below? I have checked the specs on their chinese website and I saw maximum voltage 15.7v and i know that will ruin my batteries if that is the case. Also does it really have a 3 stage charger? How much power does it use for charging as per gen? I need to be sure my gen can comfortably carry it because as they said it has a 35 amp charger. How efficient is the conversion because i know it has a transformer and i don't want to have the Cyberpower experience again.

Thanks.
Hope you are not the dealer.

Cheers.
Congrats! Thats just great grin; Did they explain what went wrong with the inverter?

The one i got had a variable settable switch for selecting the battery type you want to use with it, so you can set your float voltage to match your battery type. Like i said this inverter is really smart and puts the cyberpower 3.5kva to shame! It actually feels a bit like a xantrex clone, except it dosent have all the bells and whistle to match a xantrex, and a xantrex is a xantrex!.
Yes it really does have a 3 stage charger algorithm, the pack includes reference table graphs for the charge & transition periods. The 2000watt model has a charge capacity of 70A which in my opinion is great. The bulk charging cycle draws around 1700watts. In the case of the 1000watt version that should be around 450watts max for the bulk charge stage since the battery input is 12v.
In terms of efficiency i would say its very efficient. It also has 2 "ON" positions: Auto sense (which stays in standby load when the system cant detect any load draw and sends out short pulses every 30 sec or so to check if theres any load demand. The second "ON" position is the permanently "System On" with no standby.

And by the way nope am not a dealer but i handle quite a number of backup power system installations, so am just sharing from my experience of what has worked for me smiley.

Have a great night and hopefully you should enjoy your inverter for quite a while to come. grin

alright then, if you do decide to get another one here is a cost effective model that i usually go with,

http://www.solarshopnigeria.com/inverters/must-power/must-power-ep3000-series-sinewave-inverter-charger-2000w.html

Its 2000watts (watts not kva) for an awesome price of N69,000! Installed one late last year combined with 800watts panels the guy wants to dash out his gen! grin. Believe me you'll be surprised at how sophisticated this inverter is.

Technology MarketRe: Unreliable Cyberpower Inverters by digi101(m): 6:43pm On Sep 25, 2013
hazel_j: @digi101 The 3.5kva suddenly started making loud noises and smoking one day and I shut it down. They were charging 50k to fix it. I told them i felt that was not reasonable considering the inverter was just a month outside the 1yr warranty but they insisted. I simply bought the 1.2kva which was 25k at the time because i simply could not understand why i should pay that much for that crappy inverter anyway. I used the 1.2kva for 4 months and it stopped inverting first. I took it there and after a lot of argument they agreed to fix it under warranty. Now barely 6 wks later it has gone bad again and this time they are vehemently insisting i pay for the repairs. I told them (PRAGMATIC TECHNOLOGIES) that if i pay for the repairs i would inform the general public about the way they treat their customers. I am still waiting for their response. I have been using inverters for a long time and i have even helped friends to get but luckily i never urged any of them to buy Cyberpower. It would be a big mistake for anyone to do that.
Well lets hope they do the right thing and help fix it. I guess one of the reason they must be antagonistic is that you by passed the installation fee grin.
Anyway from the damage done to both inverters i would think they are being overloaded. However if that's the case i should expect the 3.5kva version to be sophisticated enough to shutdown intelligently without any damage to the system until the overload position is rectified. The second possibility is that you have a isolation issue and one of your other power source (most likely the mains) is returning or leaking to the inverter output. Hows the system wired into the house?
Technology MarketRe: Unreliable Cyberpower Inverters by digi101(m): 12:26pm On Sep 25, 2013
hazel_j: @digi101 nice observations but i already am aware of most of the below. When the 3.5kva stopped working, I decided to buy their 1.2kva inverter as a stop gap because they were charging me 50k to fix something that in my opinion was not worth it. That is the one that i am currently having problems with and their technical repair staff do not want to fix it unless i pay money. I have friends that have used other brands Sukam etc and once it is under warranty and you bring it for repairs no questions asked they will immediately take it in and fix it. My major grouse with them apart from the problems with the inverter is the after sales service. If you are dealing with PRAGMATIC TECHNOLOGIES pray that your inverter does not have issues. Better still avoid them.
Definitely too bad on the part of PRAGMATIC TECHNOLOGIES. Alternative energy solutions are a very expensive upfront investment, i really don't understand why retailers wont do the right thing my providing installation & usage support prior to sales (this i believe if done properly saves a lot of whala later on) rather than just focusing on the sales. I've only been to PRAG TECH once and i was shocked at the amount of returned inverters in their office (they actually had almost a room full! shocked). By the time i weighed that and the ridiculous price for the item i wanted for my client i quickly considered other options (thank God!).

My believe is if your backup power system is installed properly the first time (it should take into account every possible thing that can go wrong!) you'll practically forget were the damn thing is even installed eventually grin

By the way how many batteries do you have, there sizes also. And what actually keeps going wrong with the inverters? (Stops charging? Does not invert, or just basically starts smoking at some point grin). Given prag as done a dumb job of customer support in favour of milking them for revenue, but if the same thing happened to both inverters you could take time to review how its wired in to your home.

feflo: @hazel, I understand your grouse and you have every right to complain if you're not getting value for your money. However i wish to let you know that technology had evolved and what we have now are transformerless inverters - (inverters without transformers). They are more efficient, better protected against any fault and much more durable and very very cheap and most importantly you don't need large array of battery bank to get them to work. I will advise you try this for a change. A single 12VDC battery is enough to power them but depending on the load and the number you of hours you intend to use them might necessitate adding one or two more batteries in parallel.

Any more enquiries, call FEMI on 08023662352
Oga transformerless inverters can only go so far, have you ever seen a 3.5Kva transformerless inverter? if you have i would definitely want to have a peak inside. The DC to AC conversion is confined by the laws of physics (Energy is not created but transferred from one form to another) Trying to get a charging current of 60A without a transformer you will definitely require some space age coolants! Thats why most of your transformerless inverters have a peak charging current of 8-12A. With 200Ah battery you may get by but any more your battery health with definitely be compromised.
Technology MarketRe: Unreliable Cyberpower Inverters by digi101(m): 4:31pm On Sep 24, 2013
hazel_j: This 3.5kva inverter was the worst inverter i have used since the almost 9 yrs i have been using inverters. Just decided to try them because its a european product but i was highly disappointed with its performance. It beeps continously when there is no power you have to manually stop it from beeping whenever there is no power which is terribly annoying, then i believe the conversion efficiency is very poor because i could never use it for more than 3 or 4 hrs with minimal load without it going to low battery even from when the batteries were new. I had to resort to just sleeping with it and using only ceiling fans with it still by morning it starts beeping after carrying 2 fans for just 6 hrs. I believe that is an abominable performance for an inverter that i spent 160k to buy.
Sorry about your experience, i can understand how annoyed you must be.

However, permit me to make some humble observations for the benefit of us all. The problems you have may entirely not be with the inverter; in terms of efficiency the higher the power of the inverter the less the conversion efficiency you get (mainly due to losses in the components involved in the conversion). Efficiency might be better between different brands, but all the same if you take any brand and compare the efficiency of a 1kva to a 3.5kva the 1kva will definitely do better. I believe the companies fault is mainly not doing proper education and consulting with the client to understand the best system solution that works best for the client prior to sales.

In your case though you have a 3.5kva inverter the number of batteries you have hooked up will determine the run time you get. To enjoy a 3.5kva (around 2.5 kw) inverter the minimum battery bank you will be looking at would be 1600AH (around 8 nos 200AH). You need this much because its assumed that at least on the average you require 1200 - 1500watt per hour to power your load. If your power demand is any lower the system is way over sized to justify the losses occurring.

Another challenge would also be recharging the battery banks! I checked the buyright website and the 3.5kva has a charging current of 60A peak (bulk charge), it would take around 35 - 60hrs (depending on the inverters charging algorithm) to get the battery bank recharged! Batteries are the biggest investment in any backup power system installation, once they are not taking care of properly that investment will definitely be going down the drain.

Anyway i hope one of their top staff stumbles across this thread and brings it to the notice of the management. Rule of thumb SELL A PRODUCT THAT SATISFIES YOUR CLIENTS NEED AND YOU WONT NEED TO SPEND A FORTUNE ON GOOGLE & FACEBOOK ADS!

I would suggest if you can spare some extra cash to get a basic 1kva you'll get better run time and probably save your batteries.

All the best.

crown777: Jonathan met with the Queen of England.

He asked her, "How do you run such an efficient government? Are there any tips u can give to me? I want to help Nigeria."

"Well," said the Queen, "the most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people."

Jonathan frowned, and then asked,"But how do i know the people around me are really intelligent?"

The Queen replied, "Oh, that's easy, you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle." The Queen pushed a button on her intercom. "Please send David Cameron in here, would you?"

David Cameron walked into the room and said,"Yes, your majesty?"

The Queen smiled and said, "Answer this riddle. David, your mother and father have a child, it is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?" Without pausing for a minute David Cameron answered, "that would be me."

"Yes, very good," said the Queen.

Jonathan went back home to ask his Vice President Sambo.

JONATHAN: Answer this. Your mother and your father have a child, it's not your brother and it's not your sister, who is it?

SAMBO: "I'm not sure, let me get back to you."

He asked all his staff in the Office but none could give him an answer. Finally, one day, VP Sambo ran into Dora Akunyili. Sambo asked, Dora,

SAMBO: Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or sister, who is it?"

Dora answered sharply, "That's easy, its me!" Sambo smiled, and said "Thanks!"

Then he went back to speak with President Jonathan.

Sambo: Sir, I have the answer to that riddle, It's Dora Akunyili!

Jonathan got angry,he said to Sambo. "No wonder Nigeria isn't moving forward, I am surrounded by Dummies! The answer is David Cameron!"
