There are several of them in the world and one of them is DeRuggedProf, the great VC of NSEMPA and the chairman of stock market school fees collection Plc.

Can I become wealthy by investing in the stock market?
Can you give me examples of people that have become wealthy through stock market investment in Nigeria?
How much cash do I need to be able to start investing in stocks?

Thank you.

MTN Nigeria is a good stock no doubt. However, experience has shown that prices of stocks are always overvalued when they are newly listed on the exchange.

So, it is always advisable to chill and buy when the dust settles.

On the MTN Nigeria shares, it is a good buy, but you must keep tab on the market and quickly sell when you feel the losses may be getting much for you. Like I said in my article, you must know why you are buying a stock.

I feel MTN Nigeria shares may still drop below the listing price of N90.

Akpan107:
Sir... I have also invested in MTN Nigeria for a long and term and short term investments.

I purchased at 135 per units and I am sometimes having a sleepless nights over it especially after it depreciated last weekend.

Each minutes I log into my portal, saw my cash dropping, though is begging to rise again.

Sir, is MTN Nigeria stock a good investment?

How long should i keep it?

Thanks as you respond.
InvestmentRe: How To Begin Stock Market Trading by dipoolowoo(op): 12:33pm On May 29, 2019
The stock market in information-driven and this is what majorly affects prices of stocks. The appointment of persons, resignation or firing of a top management staff could affect prices. The release of financial statements or the announcement of an investment and many others trigger holders to either buy or sell the company's shares. A good example is MTN Nigeria, which started to fall when there were reports of a probe by the EFCC on their NSE listing.

ppogba:
Quote me. This thread will not go beyond 2 pages.

Not about Regina Daniel, not about Tonto Dike, not about the idiot impregnating women up and down and you want Nigerian youths to comment?

By the way, you have not talk about factors that determine shares prices from time to time, factors that determine when to buy or sell and most importantly WARN Nigerians about the intrigues in the Nigerian stock market (that is if you yourself know)
InvestmentRe: How To Begin Stock Market Trading by dipoolowoo(op): 12:25pm On May 29, 2019
I sympathize with you on your loss. I must say you entered into the market when the stock market in Nigeria was overvalued, 2007 to 2009, when the market crashed, even globally. You must have bought these stocks during IPOs, it is one of the school fees I talked about in my write up. Many Nigerians also had the same issue.

The market at the moment is at its true value or even undervalued. Like I always tell people, you must keep tab of the market to know when to sell and buy. The simple trick is buy when the market is down and sell when the market is up. Give yourself an entry point and an exit point. Don't be too greedy because it might hurt you badly.

Akpan107:
Nice write-up sir...

I started investing in stock market some 10 years ago, and since then i have never made any profits.

I have lost over 1 million naira in that 10 Years and I don't know when I will ever recover.

It was actually a Long term investment.

The companies shares;
Zenith bank plc I bought at 38 naira per unit

Dangote Sugar at 18 naira

United Bank for Africa at 28 naira

Fidelity Bank at 6 naira

First Bank at 28 naira.

Sir, how possible its to recover in the next 5 years...?

After 10 Years of investing, I think the future is now.

BusinessStock Market Gains N490bn Ahead Of Buhari’s Inauguration by dipoolowoo(op): 3:17am On May 29, 2019
By Dipo Olowookere

Renewed bargain hunting by investors on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) lifted the equity market by 3.68 percent on Tuesday.

Business Post reports that the pre-inauguration rally was mainly influenced by the positive performances put up by banking shares.

The banking index gained the most yesterday, growing by 6.76 percent. Another top riser was the oil and gas index, which rose by 3.97 percent. The industrial index appreciated by 3.18 percent, the consumer goods index by 2.24 percent and the insurance index by 0.40 percent.

It was observed that investors quickly bought banking shares currently trading at low prices, hoping to offload them again when the time is right to sell.

This activity led to the 1112.29 points rise in the All-Share Index (ASI), which crossed the 31,000 mark again on Tuesday to close at 31,307.00 points.

However, the market capitalisation remained in the N13 trillion region, but improved by N490 billion yesterday to finish at N13.789 trillion.

Unlike the previous session, the level of activity significantly improved on Tuesday with the volume of equities traded rising by 132.31 percent to 344.3 million from 148.2 million, while the value increased by 227.87 percent to N7.3 billion from N2.2 billion.

An analysis of this showed that investors pounced on GTBank shares, buying up available units from willing sellers. At the end of the day, the company’s stocks emerged the most traded at the market with a turnover of 67.1 million units sold for N2.1 billion.

Zenith Bank followed with 52.1 million units sold for N1 billion, while FBN Holdings traded 44.7 million units worth N322.2 million.

Access Bank transacted 41.8 million shares for N256.5 million, while UBA exchanged 20.3 million equities valued at N123.5 million.

On the price movement log, Nestle Nigeria topped the risers’ chart after adding N50 to its share price to close at N1450 per unit.

Seplat gained N29.90k to finish at N549.90k per share, while Dangote Cement rose by N9.60k to end at N201.60k per share.

MTN Nigeria appreciated by N2.55k to settle at N132.55k per unit, while Nigerian Breweries increased by N2 to close at N60 per unit.

Conversely, it was a bad day for Flour Mills as its stock price depreciated by 40 kobo to close at N13.35k per unit, leading the decliners’ chart at the close of business on Tuesday.

PZ Cussons followed with a price depreciation of 40 kobo also to finish at N8.10k per share, while Eterna dropped 35 kobo to settle at N3.65k per unit.

NAHCO lost 12 kobo to end at N3.18k per share, while Africa Prudential suffered 4 kobo loss to finish at N3.56k per unit.

The market is on a break today as a result of the public holiday declared by federal government for the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term of four years in office.

InvestmentHow To Begin Stock Market Trading by dipoolowoo(op): 3:04pm On May 28, 2019
By Dipo Olowookere

Many times, I have been asked to explain how the stock market works and the steps needed to begin investment in that critical sector of the economy.

This article is mainly to give those interested in joining the stock market the key things they need to know before jumping on the train.

It is important to state that the stock market is highly volatile and not for those not willing to take ‘calculated risks.’

Before I continue, we need to understand what the stock market is.

The stock or equity market is a place or platform set aside for the exchange of stocks of companies admitted to trade their securities to investors.

Now, before you begin to trade stocks on the exchange, you need to acquaint yourself with the terms used. You can check this article for assistance Understanding Terms Used in Stock Market (Part 1).

To the subject matter, I will try to make things very simple as I can, though I am not a very good teacher, I must admit.

Before you jump on the train, you need to ask yourself these important questions, why do I want to invest in the stock market. Am I investing as a trader, long term investor or medium?

When you find answers to these questions, you can then look for the company that fits into your investment tenor.

Let me quickly explain the terms I just used above; trader, long term and medium-term investors.

Traders at the stock market are mainly those interested in buying stocks when they are cheap and sell immediately they hit their target price, mostly within the shortest possible time say a week or less or slightly more.

For the long-term investors, they buy stocks for the future purpose and are not after any immediate gains. These people have investment plan of 5 years or more, while those in the medium-term category invest for dividend, price appreciation, say within 3 month, 6 months or a year.

So, when you consider which of the three categories you want, you can then study the stocks that can perfectly fit and then invest.

Now on the stock buy, you have to read a lot about the performances of the companies listed on the exchange and study their trends and price movements, checking the 52-week lows and highs so as to know when to buy and sell.

In Nigeria, the banking stocks, most especially the tier-one, are good because they have good price appreciation and dividend payout.

Another thing you must also consider is the amount you’ve earmarked to invest in stocks. This will help you determine the stocks to buy.

The good thing is you don’t have to have millions or hundreds of thousands to begin stock market trading. You can have as low as N10,000 to begin with. What this means is that your amount will determine the number of units of the stock you can acquire at that particular time. If you have like N10,000 and you are interested in buying a stock selling at N50 per unit, you will only be able to get 200 units minus the brokerage fee.

This takes me to the next thing you must consider before joining the stock market; getting a good stockbroker.

You need a stockbroker, who is a professional authorised to help investors or clients buy and sell shares at the stock market.

There are several authorised stockbrokers in Nigeria. Some of them even have trading platforms where you can trade yourself. Some of them offer free trading and investment tips, suggesting which stocks you can buy, sell or hold.

However, before you choose a broker, you need to select those who charge lower brokerage fee. This is the amount they charge clients for executing your order. You pay this fee whenever you are using them to buy or sell your stocks.

Most times, they will require you to register with them and fund your account by paying to a bank account. They will help you with the creation of an account with the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS), which is like a database of all investors at the stock market.

When you buy shares through a stockbroker, your account will be credited with the volume of shares purchased and when they are sold, the number of stocks offloaded by you would be subtracted from your account. Let me just put it in a simple term, the CSCS is like your bank account.

After all these, it is important to try demo trading before the real thing. This will give you an idea of how the market works. You can use this opportunity to see if you understand stock market trading. In most cases, these demo trading platforms give you a virtual money to trade with. They make it look real, with the brokerage charges deducted.

I must confess to you, investing in stock market is fun and you need to experience it. However, like they say in a stock market group I belong to, be ready to ‘pay school fees’ to the Nigerian Stock Exchange. This simply means you must be prepared to lose some money in the stock market, but this must not discourage you because before a child starts to walk and run, he must first crawl and fall. We all have paid and are sometimes still paying.

Before I stop for now to take your questions, you must understand that there are some factors that tinker with stock prices. So, you need to watch out for these.

Now, I will be ready to take your questions.

It is a very dangerous idea to listen to the recommendations of stockbrokers. It is synonymous to asking a banker if you should buy Treasury bills or Fixed deposits.

The raid was totally uncalled for. Instead, they should have raided SEC and NSE.

Deadlytruth:
That is why I personally find it difficult to believe that EFCC has ever really fought corruption since it was created in 2004/5. Imagine it leaving the main body of the issue and chasing the shadow as if MTN's alleged abracadabra listing didn't go through SEC in the first instance.

Christianity EtcAnother Nigerian Pastor Joshua Iginla Buys Private Jet by dipoolowoo(op): 5:10pm On May 26, 2019
By Dipo Olowookere

The list of Nigerian cleric with private jets is increasing by the day and the latest to join the elite’s gang is Prophet Joshua Iginla, founder of Champions Royal Assembly, Abuja.

The man of God announced the acquisition of the small plane to his congregation during a church service today, where his birthday was celebrated.

The clergy, who runs the 80,000 seater auditorium widely known as City of Wonders in Abuja, said the latest acquisition is for the propagation of the gospel across the globe.

During the service, the cleric gave the sum of N150,000 and a bag of rice each to 142 widows, while some of his pastors received plots of land worth N95 million in Abuja.

Prophet Joshua Iginla has been to hundreds of nations to carry out missionary works. He has been to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, United States of America, Cameroun, South Africa and so many countries and continents just to preach the word of God.

It is noted that he runs a busy missionary schedule round the year globally. Prophet Joshua Iginla is one who is known to have a Prophetic ministry and as such gone to several places to Prophecy, and deliver people from evil spirits. It will also be worthy to note that the Prophetic ministry is one which is requested for world-wide, especially in rare cases where a Prophet also has a very strong teaching ministry. He can be likened to a river everyone wants to drink from, that is exactly who Prophet Joshua Iginla is.

Due to this, he has missed a crusade because of tight schedule and cancellation of his flight. This destabilized him and the host country he was supposed to visit because he had a divine mission to fulfil there. Aside that, he has been mobbed severally while waiting for flights and the rigid nature of flight schedule at times do not tally with his flexible schedule in fulfilling his global mandate.

BusinessAccess Bank Threatens To Publish Names Of Debtors In Newspapers by dipoolowoo(op): 5:46pm On May 23, 2019
**Bar Them from Banking System, Forex, Capital Markets

By Dipo Olowookere

The management of Access Bank Plc has given all its delinquent debtors two weeks to pay up their due obligations, emphasising that failure to adhere to this directive would come with severe consequences.

In a publication today on Punch Newspapers, the lender said this warning also goes to debtors of the defunct Diamond Bank Plc.

Business Post reports that in March 2019, Access Bank and Diamond Bank officially merged together to become an enlarged banking entity.

In the notice seen by Business Post, the financial institution warned that if after the two weeks grace period the “incorrigible debtors” fail to comply with this directive, it would be forced to publish their “names in newspapers.”

The bank said “all debtors will be sanctioned by the CBN and banned from participating in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange and Securities Exchange Markets, and registered on the Credit Risk Management Systems (CRMS) Bureau as bad debtors making them, their directors and related entities illegible for any credit in the Nigerian Financial Markets.”

Access Bank said it was determined to take further actions “against such delinquent individuals and companies as we may consider necessary and shall relentlessly pursue full recovery of all our debts.”

Below is the full statement signed by the management of Access Bank Plc.

Please be informed that Access Bank Plc is set to publish the list of all its delinquent debtors, associated persons, directors and entities. This is in line with the directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

All Access Bank Plc (including former Diamond Bank Plc) debtors are directed to pay up their due obligations in order to avoid punitive actions being taken against them. Please note that we shall publish out debtors’ names in newspapers in two weeks.

Similarly, in the event that these obligations are not fulfilled, we shall take such further actions against such delinquent individuals and companies as we may consider necessary and shall relentlessly pursue full recovery of all our debts.

Furthermore, all debtors will be sanctioned by the CBN and banned from participating in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange and Securities Exchange Markets, and registered on the Credit Risk Management Systems (CRMS) Bureau as bad debtors making them, their directors and related entities illegible for any credit in the Nigerian Financial Markets.

For incorrigible debtors, who continue to pose a risk to our system, we will use all means available and collaborate with our colleagues in the industry to ensure that they are excommunicated from the banking system.

Consequently, we hereby advise all out delinquent debtors to take this publication seriously and ensure that all debts are settled promptly.
