Nairaland GeneralRe: Zoom Went Down Sunday Morning - May 17, 2020 by DipoToyo(op): 1:33am On May 18, 2020
Meanwhile, Google Meet came up with several ads instantly suggesting if you’re one of the many users trying to get on Zoom while it’s down, you might want to give Google Meet a shot. The service just recently went free and has seen several updates in the past few weeks to better match Zoom’s feature set. For example, Google Meet now shows gallery views for everyone connected to a call.

For the longest time, Google Meet was a paid service only available to G Suite customers, but now it’s available to everyone with a Gmail account. You can run a 60-minute call for free with a group of people as long as they have a Google account. Here’s how it works.

First, the host of the meeting needs to go to meet.google.com. Next, click Start a meeting. From that screen, you’ll see “Join Now” as well as the link for others to join the call. Copy that link and send it to those who need to attend. The link will also pop up after you press Join Now. You can see this process step-for-step in the GIF below.

Once the call is running, anyone with that link and a Gmail account is free to join and use the service just like Zoom. Attendees can easily join from Google Chrome or any other desktop browser, but those joining from Android, iPhone, or iPad will need to download the Google Meet app.
Nairaland GeneralZoom Went Down Sunday Morning - May 17, 2020 by DipoToyo(op): 1:28am On May 18, 2020
During the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, video conferencing has become more popular and important than ever before. Zoom has become the go-to service for video calling with groups, but on the morning of May 17th the service was hit with a massive outage, going down for users across the globe.

Confirmed through Twitter and its own status dashboard, Zoom confirmed that its service is having issues for a “limited subset of users” as of this morning. Some users trying to join calls are experiencing issues getting past the “Waiting Room” while others are having problems with audio and video. For obvious reasons, it’s very frustrating to run a Zoom call this morning.

Our team is investigating the root cause of issues joining Zoom Meetings. These issues appear to be limited to a subset of users. Please visit http://status.zoom.us for updates.

HealthRe: Does WHO Recommend Routine Wearing Masks? by DipoToyo(op): 12:30pm On May 07, 2020
WHO recommends the use of medical masks for the following individuals:

Healthcare workers

Why? Medical masks and respirators such as N95, FFP2 or equivalent are recommended for and should be reserved for, healthcare workers while giving care to patients. Healthcare workers are the most exposed because they are in close contact with people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and their surrounding environment, which are the main routes of transmission.

People who are sick and exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19

Why? Anyone who is sick, even with mild symptoms such as muscle aches, slight cough, sore throat or fatigue, should isolate at home and use a medical mask as much as possible according to WHO’s recommendation on home care of patients with suspected COVID-19. Coughing, sneezing or talking can generate droplets that can spread the infection. These droplets can reach the face of others nearby or land on the surrounding environment. If an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks wearing a medical mask, this helps to protect those nearby from infection.

Anyone taking care of a person at home who is sick with COVID-19

Why? Those caring for individuals who are sick with COVID-19 should wear a medical mask for protection. Close and frequent contact with someone with COVID-19 can put those caring for them at high risk. National decision makers may also choose to recommend medical mask use for certain individuals using a risk-based approach. This approach takes into consideration the purpose of the mask, risk of exposure and vulnerability of the wearer, the setting and feasibility of use and the types of masks considered.
HealthDoes WHO Recommend Routine Wearing Masks? by DipoToyo(op): 12:27pm On May 07, 2020
https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/question-and-answers-hub/q-a-detail/q-a-on-infection-prevention-and-control-for-health-care-workers-caring-for-patients-with-suspected-or-confirmed-2019-ncov#

Does WHO recommend routine wearing masks for healthy people during the 2019 nCoV outbreak?

No. WHO does not recommend that asymptomatic individuals (i.e., who do not have respiratory symptoms) in the community should wear medical masks, as currently there is no evidence that routine use of medical masks by healthy individuals prevents 2019-nCoV transmission. Masks are recommended to be used by symptomatic persons in the community. Misuse and overuse of medical masks may cause serious issues of shortage of stocks and lack of mask availability for those who actually need to wear them.

In health care facilities where health care workers are directly taking care of suspect or confirmed 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease patients, masks are an important part of containing 2019-nCoV spread between people, along with other PPE and hand hygiene
