Pls let's understand what the op is saying.. Yes Nigeria has a large population which connotes a larger market for Foreign investors.. But these investors re already business tycoons who come to exploit and enlarge there businesses.. So an average Nigerian moving to Mozambique may not be seen as a "Foreign investor". The Op have mentioned the kind of businesses that thrive in Mozambique.. Barbing, boutique, Restaurants etc.. These are the normal business an average Nigerian do.. No foreign investor will come to Nigeria to open a barbing salon because Nigeria has d population.. Lets understand what the OP is saying b4 talking about "FOREIGN INVESTORS". So It may not be advisable for large scale foreign investors to invest in Mozambique.. But an average Nigerian can thrive in Mozambique and exploit the little opportunities there.. Simple. |

Spain in chaos as Catalonia sets date for independence referendum CATALONIA has put itself on a direct collision course with Madrid as the Spanish region has set a date for its latest independence referendum. Carles Puigdemont, the President of the northeastern region has announced that it will hold a controversial referendum over the issue of breaking away from the control of Madrid in a vote on October 1. Mr Puigdemont also revealed the question that Catalans will be asked in the vote. Voters will be asked: “Do you want Catalonia to be an independent state in the form of a republic?” Mr Puigdemont said in a statement at the Catalan government’s headquarters in Barcelona: “The problem is real and profound.” The pro-independence leader claimed that his administration had tried to gain a negotiated deal with Madrid to go ahead with the referendum but he claimed a “hostile” government had meant a deal could not be reached. He said: "We have actively participated in the National Pact for the Referendum. We have presented proposals to agree on a negotiation. "We have adopted parliamentary and government resolutions urging the Spanish executive to talk and negotiate. We have directly expressed to the Spanish government our firm determination to sit down at the table and negotiate a solution. We have explained this around the world, in London, Brussels, Paris, Boston, Washington, New York, and Madrid." Mr Puigdemont’s deputy, Oriol Junqueras, went further in his criticism of Madrid’s hardline stance. Mr Junqueras said: “We think it is opportune to provide context for the moment we find ourselves in, facing a State which has denied the citizens of Catalonia [the right to] vote. “A Spanish government that assaults fundamental democratic rights, and has ministers who conspire against the Catalan health system." A Catalan supporter of the independence cause, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Express.co.uk that “enough was enough” and it was time for independence. She said: “I do hope from the bottom of my heart that the referendum is held and that the answer is yes. “It's thousands and thousands of us who want and have long wanted the independence. “I’m sick and tired of some Spanish politicians saying that we are puppets moved by the strings of the Catalan parliament. “Who the hell do they think they are to think that we are a few suckers with no minds of our own? “Most of the people I know are pro-independence and they're highly educated people who think for themselves. “We know that Spain don't want to let us go - I wonder if that's because we are, in a way, the hen that lays the golden eggs - but at the same time, a lot of them despise and it seems to me we always have to ask for forgiveness for being Catalan and being different and having a different culture and language. “Enough is enough. It's been years, centuries, waiting for this moment.” The move is in direct defiance of Spain 's central government, led by the conservative Popular Party (PP) and the Prime Minster Mariano Rajoy, has consistently appealed to the Constitutional Court in a bid to block a referendum it believes is unconstitutional, arguing that the sovereignty resides with the entire Spanish nation. Mr Rajoy had previously described Catalan plans to push ahead with a referendum with or without the consent of Madrid as “ intolerable blackmail ”. But Catalan government spokeswoman Neus Munté recently justified the move citing Madrid’s “refusal” to negotiate a legal referendum that all parties could accept. Mr Puigdemont as well as Mr Jungueras face the real prospect of being arrested should they actually execute the referendum vote. Catalonia’s previous president Artur Mas was arrested and put on trial for defying court orders by holding a non-binding referendum on independence in 2014. His supporters Joana Ortega and Irene Rigau were also put on trial at the same time for helping organise the vote. http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/815014/Catalonia-independence-referendum-date-Catalan-Carles-Puigdemont-Madrid |
