Okay... The next would be to define
Genre...
The book will best define it..
But it simply means category in which books are categorised.
The first is thriller.
Thriller is any work that stimulates readers interest, giving them heightened feeling of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation, and anxiety.
Thriller makes reader be on the edge of their seat. A good example is The Unknown Shadow, my story. That was the aim. To make people feel the end of the protagonist is near.
: The next is suspense
: It's classed under Thriller but it has a feature of not having too much at stake like Thriller. It just makes the reader keeps turning the page of the book just too know more. Despite the fact that many stories must have suspense yet stories must be filled with them
[: Lastly for today...

Horror.
: This is essentially stories that are gruesome in nature. They paint blood, death and injury so vividly for the reader. They seek to elicit negative emotions from the readers.
It was inspired by Authors like Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley.
You see them in Vampire stories, Werewolves mishap, Monster troubles...
E.g Blood on the moon... The witch mysteries. Buffy the vampire slayer. The exorcism of Emily etc...
And here we stop for today...
Assignment

: As I stated in the book, many people write just to
1. escape from the troubles of this world
2. To entertain. Writing is done to entertain others. To relieve people of the day to day stress. Many people sit after a day's hardwork and need a story to calm their nerves. That's why couples always wait for their partners to return so that they'll tell them something exciting that happened during the day.
3. To educate: Writing is also done to teach something new. Today, there won't be more teaching.
So... Why do you want to write? Tell us the class

Good evening, this is D-day.
the first thing we need to know is the definition of Fiction.
Fiction is a written imagination of someone. Most times, this imagination are birth out of desire to see something happen or are used to escape from an event. Most times they are they are replica of some events. But they are still the event that are well arranged by the writer.

The next on Agenda is why do we write fiction?

Chapter 1
Misplaced Identity

Noises, laughter, scream.
He opened his eyes. The expression that might be found on a man that had just woken is the grim expression, and this was the expression on his face. But he was not having such expression because it was typical of a person waking; rather, he was having the expression because he can’t help it, because he didn’t remember anything, anything about where he was, anything about himself, anything about what he did sometimes before.
The room of someone who is just waking is supposed to be his or her room, but he was sure he had never seen that room before in his life. The shoes should be his' ,but he can’t remember ever putting any of them on. Even the clothes on the hanger were his own but he can’t remember ever putting any of them on; not the shirt, neither the polos nor the trousers.
His phone vibrated and rang the moment he placed his back on the wall. He stopped breathing. Then, he started breathing very slowly, very slowly as he slowly scanned the room again. He can’t remember anything. Not a single thing and that annoyed him. He smacked his head.
He looked at his phone, which was still vibrating to see who the caller was.
‘My Love’
My love?
He didn’t have any love or did he? He picked the call
‘Hello, Jerry dear, how are you?’ The voice of a lady said, happiness radiating in her voice.
‘I’m fine…’ he said, then changed his mind, ‘I’m not fine… I’m not fine… Please who are you?’
‘Jerry, what are you saying?’
‘I don’t know you… I don’t know who you are’.
‘What are you saying, you don’t know me? Jerry, who is there with you?’
‘Here with me? Of course, nobody’, Jerry said. At the same time, one of the girls among the children playing outside the room snickered loudly.
‘Is that not the voice of a lady?’
‘Yes… No’
‘You are a liar…You are cheating on me’.
‘Cheating you? I don’t even know you’.
‘Me…? Shade?’
‘Shade’
‘Ah! Jerry, you are a pretender, and I know what to do for you’.
The call went off. Jerry stared at the phone with his mouth open widely as he his eyes darted from one part of the room to another. He smacked his head again.
‘Where am I?’
‘Who am I?’
‘What is wrong with me?’
He asked himself as he rose from the medium-size bed he was sleeping on. He was putting on a blue silk short, and a singlet. He stepped out of the bed on to the brown rug, examining the room absentmindedly.
‘What is wrong with me?’

Is better and good to read and understand than read to memorize. Reason : you can not forget if you understand what you learn or study before it will magnet in your brain for ever.

But craming is for just a period of a time and is a system where by knowledge is obtain for a certain purpose or specific objective to actualize a goal. eg: Exam, interview, debate and speech, etc.....
cramming is different from memorisation

Memorization: The Best Tool of Knowledge

Have you noticed that the rate at which people had stopped reading is increasing daily?

Before you start giving us ideas on what we can do, we think you should know that we are not here to discuss the problem in the system; rather, we are here to discuss the problem if examination comes and you are not ready.

It’s understandable that you really read for your exams last semester but you got below expectations. It’s understandable that you attended all classes and did all assignments; yet, you got bad grades. You are not the only one. Many of the students you see smiling around also did but I think we need to dig deep into the problem before we can attend to the solution.

First, the reason you are studying should be a top priority. Think. Why are you really reading? To Pass or know? Many lecturers would tell you that you need to know what you are reading; however, research has shown that for you to know anything in this world you have to memorize it. Take for example, Pastors. The first thing they do is that they memorize the bible while reading it. When they talk or write, they discuss from the bible passages they’ve memorized and not the ones they’ve read.

In addition, if we look at primary school pupils, they constantly memorize the Multiplication Table though it did not help them understand the mathematical concept but it allows them to draw on what they have memorized in order to succeed in more complex mental arithmetic.

Memorization, therefore, produces a more efficient memory, taking it beyond its limitation of capacity and duration.

We are not suggesting that you depend on memorization. But you need to start learning how to memorize now because no matter what you know, the lecturers would want specifics, and if you are someone who believes in passing the ideas then you are prone to get below the expected mark. The lecturers, who would not tell you, subconsciously want to see their words in the pages of the book to show you were attentive in class. They want to see the words from their works or material to show you really read it.

It is expedient you do not mind them when they say they want you to tell them something out of their book because they have marking schemes. Marking Schemes are guidelines for marking that these lecturers have propounded. And to create something new you must have a well of information; therefore, for your lecturers to create a marking scheme, they have to use their notes to set rules. They have to use their notes to tell them what you should talk about. If you now decide to read another book on the same topic that have better information or lesser information than theirs, they will not be able to follow the use of that book. Their marking guide is the rulebook. The rulebook is set by the schoolbooks.

In this, we implore you to read as much as you can now, but memorize the book. When you let it stick to your brain, it will come out. How do poets just drop those heavy words that make you wonder if their brain is full of philosophies? How do people drop quotes that ‘wows’ others? They memorized it and it becomes a part of their knowledge.

Next week we will be dealing on the other reasons but now. Rush into your room, Libraries, or those who read overnight- go to catholic, to Agric, to anatomy, to your reading rooms and memorize. Read to expand your knowledge but memorize to build foundation. Don’t wish they had told you this before, act on it because you have this semester.

Remember, examination is crucial especially in modern Nigeria.

Education › What you can do with Linguistics by Divepen1(op):
Linguistics is, broadly, the scientific study of language, and many topics are studied under this umbrella. At the heart of linguistics is the search for the unconscious knowledge that humans have about language(s), an understanding of the structure of language, and knowledge about how languages differ from each other. Linguists investigate how linguistic knowledge of this kind is acquired, how it interacts with other mental processes, how it varies from person to person and region to region (even within one language), and how computer programs can model this knowledge.

They study how the structure of language (such as sounds or phrases) can be represented, and how different components of language interact with each other (such as intonation and meaning). Linguists work with consultants who speak different languages, search corpora, and run carefully designed experiments to answer these questions about language. (Yes, linguistics is a science! By now, you can see that linguists may benefit by knowing multiple languages, but you can see that this is not the full extent of what a linguist does.

As students of linguistics, there are two basic reactions got from people who inquire us about our field of specialization. One is to ask of the number of languages we speak, the second is to treat us as phonics prosecutors.

Contrary to the widely conceived notion as to the non-lucrative status of Linguistics as a field of inquiry, the socio-cultural ideology and perception of the subject matter did place a limitation to the imaginations as to the extent to which the field can be applied. Besides the teaching profession as many believe linguists end up with, there are several professional fields linguists are found. A few of these fields are;

Work in the computer industry: Linguists may work on speech recognition, search engines, and artificial intelligence.
Work as a translator or interpreter: Skilled translators and interpreters are needed everywhere, from government to hospitals to courts of law. For this line of work, a high level of proficiency in the relevant language(s) is necessary, and specialized training may be required. Nonetheless, linguistics can help you understand the issues that arise when a message is communicated from one language to another.
Work in the publishing industry, as a technical writer, or a journalist: The verbal skills that linguists develop are ideal for positions in editing, publishing, and writing.
Work with dictionaries (lexicography): Knowledge of phonology, morphology, historical linguistics, dialectology, and sociolinguistics is key to becoming a lexicographer.

Become a consultant on language in professions such as law or medicine: The subfield of forensic linguistics involves studying the language of legal texts, linguistic aspects of evidence, issues of voice identification, and so on. Law enforcement agencies such as the Secret Service and police departments, law firms, and the courts hire linguists for these purposes.
Become an actor or train actors: Actors need training in pronunciation, intonation, and different elements of grammar in order to sound like real speakers of a language or dialect. They may even need to know how to make mistakes to sound like an authentic non-native speaker. To enhance your chances of finding a good job after graduation, you might choose to double-major and make your linguistic work part of an interdisciplinary program of study. A secondary specialization in an area such as psychology, computer science, the speech sciences, education, journalism, philosophy, or a foreign language complements a Major in linguistics nicely.

The list is endless as the field of Linguistics is an interconnecting web between other fields of inquiries; talk of Philosophy, Sociology, Anatomy, Anthropology, Computer Science, etc. Sub-fields of Linguistics include Psycholinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Neurolinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Phonetics and Phonology, Morphology and Syntax, just to mention a few. A field of linguistics currently generating much interest is Forensic Linguistics; a field of Linguistics which makes use of the scientific application of language to solving crimes.

After digesting the exposition above, you may want to pack up your bag and port to Linguistics…

The Will

Looking back through, the years, Nifemi knew it was high time she left that house. She had suffered enough from this man she called her husband.
She glanced at the picture on her table. She slammed it on the table. The memory is sickening. It felt as if she had worm in her mouth. Her face deformed as she took her hand to her swollen eyes.
Her hands trembled. The clock on the wall tick, as if men were drilling hole in her body. The pain from last night’s beating was enough to kill any fat woman. Only God knew how she, a slender woman, got the strength to withstand such beating from her husband. Maybe, it was an accumulation of the strength she got from Kunmi, her husband's, incessant beating. The pain of her swollen face felt fresh. And it throbbed her.
At home, he wasn't thinking straight. Now, that she had left the house, she had thought it through and through. Nothing in this world was tangible enough to hold her in Kunmi's house. A man’s life was more essential than the vows made on the altar.
It was high time she got a divorce. But before she did that, she would first leave his house.
The season for becoming blind to love had arrived. And she would so much conform to it. Her heart was made up. And God help anybody that came to plead on his behalf, she would so much curse such person that the person will always remember the day he or she visited her.
‘Shadiat’, she shouted after she took her car key and headed for the door.
The door helped her imagine the way she would leave his house. Leaving his house would be just like the way snakes ply mountains- nobody would feel her leaving the house.
‘Shadiat...' She shouted again.
A short plump girl came running towards her. She sized her. She looked just like two Ghana-must-go bags placed on themselves. Her faced was with tribal marks like the line on Nifemi’s travelling bag. Nifemi hissed.
‘I’m going home, take care of my shop', she said.
‘Yes ma'.
‘And make sure you are here when I return, no matter the time I return'.
Shadiat nodded warily like the person who had just being told to either carry a pot of fire or forfeit her life.
Her mind dashed from one thought to another. She dragged her thoughts away from the love they shared. And dumped such thought into the vehicle-of-forgotten.
She just didn't know the cause of Kunmi's behaviour. At least, after three years of a childless marriage, he ought to have learnt how to take care of a lady. He ought to know that her belly would be yearning desperately for a baby. That her heart would be crying for comfort.
She was deaf to the gateman's greeting. Her eyes couldn't just help it. Every now and then, it moved to the mirror to see the black spot on her eyes.
When she entered, the first thing that attracted her was the empty space on the table. The empty space used to house a beautiful vase that was a gift from John. He gave her the vase when he returned from Dubai. She swallowed hard as she remembered on whose head the vase broke- hers.
The pain got back at her.
‘Ah!' She said, moaning. She knelt in the parlour. And, at last, after holding herself since yesternight, she cried. The chair, her consoler screeched as she held it to strengthen herself.
The pain that surged through her body as he slapped her came again. The memory of the agony from his iron-fist that blacked her eyes flooded her thought. And the noise that erupted from her mouth as he pulled her hair drowned her optimism of ever living with him again.
All she did was to be late in bringing a handkerchief. He didn't always use handkerchief beforehand. So, when he asked for it she was so taken aback that she wasted some seconds wondering what he wanted to do with a handkerchief.
After crying for ten minutes, she rose from her blood-like rug, and climbed the stairs that looked like the evil path she took into this marriage. If that stupid John had proposed to her earlier, she would have a son to call her own. She would be in the hand of the man that loved her; one she loved with everything in her.
‘John’, she cried as the pain got to her again.
She pushed herself up the stairs and packed her load. Kunmi wouldn't return till late in the night, when she must have be gone. Far away from the jealous eyes of John's wife. Far from the tender smiles of her son. She would be far away from the cold hand of death, which was also Kunmi’s hand.
On her last trip to her car, she stared at the wall, at the frame, at the picture of her and Kunmi. She hated the day she said 'Yes'.
She rushed to the wall pulled down the frame. She would cut off every tie she had with him.
‘Never again' She cried and jumped severally on the frame. ‘Never again.'
She cried. The glass pierced her skin. She wasn't concerned. She looked at the other frame and began to break them.
Just then, the door opened. Kunmi came in. Cold air rushed to her as she expected him to hit her again. He went down on his knee.
‘I’m sorry baby', he said. His face was contoured. His eyes were squinted as he crawled nearer.' I don't know what got over me'.
She shifted back. He moved nearer. Tears were now pouring down her face. Who would ever believe her if she told them, he always beat her. John would, but others wouldn’t because he was caring.
She stared at him. He was right. She just can't lose him. She limped forward, hugged his head, and cried over him. And for the 18th time in that marriage, she accepted him again, for better for worse.

* The End*

Romance › I Had An Abortion by Divepen1(op): 1:39pm On Jan 08, 2016
I actually married as a virgin o, thanks to having a
strict mum who would not endorse me having
boyfriends until after university, being a born-again
Christian, praise and worship leader, hearing the
word of God daily aided me (I had my fair share of
temptations too, so l am no saint here).

I had two kids less than 1 year and l found out l
was pregnant again. Oh my God, my husband and
l were not ready for this. We then came to a
decision to terminate it. I secretly wanted my
husband to say no but…. I prayed earnestly for a
miscarriage but, nothing happened.

I went to the hospital but the doctor touched my
tummy and said it was hard, that l was too far
gone. ‘Go and do a scan’, he said. I went for the
scan hoping the doctor will say he would not carry
it out but my scan showed 6 weeks, EDD to be
October 2009 and the hardness was as a result of
fibroid. He scheduled the next day which happened
to be our wedding anniversary. I was hoping
something will happen to prevent the procedure
but alas the day came. I went in and l was
disgusted at the site of the ‘area’, which was a far-
cry from the hospital where l delivered (it was a
popular hospital o but with old and archaic
equipment). My legs were spread apart and he put
the ‘thing’ inside of me and drilling things out. I
moaned with pain. My body quivered in
unimaginable soreness when the action was taking
place. The painful part for me was that, my hubby
was not there with me. I went in alone. I cried out
of the theatre, out of the hospital, in the taxi cab,
till l got home, cried and cried asking God for
forgiveness.

When l got home and the realities set in, ‘what
have l done?’ l asked myself. Abortion! Yeepppa… I
cried and cried. I do not know of others who have
experienced it but l did not heal of it for years. I
could not receive God’s forgiveness. I healed
physically after two weeks as l was given
antibiotics and painkillers but the next months and
years were bad as it was full of emotional soreness
and guilt. I went back to the hospital to have
family planning in place to avoid any more
mistakes. The site of the hospital building
reminded me of those horrors.

Two years later, the craving for another child won’t
leave me. I decided l was ready and l removed
family planning but pregnancy won’t come. The
next following years were filled of self-guilt. Every
menses was a constant reminder of my sin.
People’s display of new-born ‘dp’ put prick in my
heart as a sinner. I was jealous of people pregnant
and celebration of babies. Although l had two other
children but l wanted a child like a woman who
never had one. I prayed and prayed, l would not let
go.

Finally; l got pregnant. Oh my God! It was like a
dream. This pregnancy for me was a sign that God
had forgiven me and given me a clean slate. You
know what, not only did l fall pregnant again, l
found out on our wedding anniversary and guess
what EDD was October (again). Do l need any
more sign of God faithfulness and forgiveness.
I am not writing this to celebrate abortion. I never
in a million year thought l would be part of it, l
was disappointed in myself but that experience
made me to realize that ‘he that thinks he stand
take heed lest he fall’.

Abortion shouldn’t be the last option, it is horrible,
and it’s like acting in a horror movie. Unfortunately
people don’t talk about it especially in this part of
the world. Many times we hear that “Don’t have
sex before marriage so that you won’t have to
abort and if you get pregnant, birth the child”. But
there is another part which is for married women
who have unwanted pregnancies, don’t abort!
Get family planning in place before sex resumes
after childbirth.

Also stop this rubbish of what people will say, for
example, people will say “na every year you dey
born ni” (Do you give birth yearly?)?, “are you a
baby factory?” etc. These people you are mindful of
wont be there where you are reaping the harvest of
your guilt but will surely shut up their mouths
when you are reaping the harvest of a God-sent
child. Also you yourself should stop making fun of
people, trust me a silly comment is the last thing a
pregnant woman wants to hear. Abortion, D & C is
horrible except if your heart is made of stone.
Many of us have heard stories of a child that a
woman wanted to abort but turned out to be the
most celebrated. Some may never have a second
chance like me but in all, do know that God is a
loving father and not a taskmaster waiting for your
mistake. In your mistake, do rise above it and
don’t go back to the sin.
