Flowers
By Akintayo Akinjide

Paula smiled at the stupidity of her Aunt and moved away to the other part of the parlour. She just wanted to escape before the fair, overripe looking rich guy started making other advances towards her. She had held her tongue the other time. If he did any foolish thing, she would spill her thoughts- which are terrible.
' Paula', her sister said, making her turn hurriedly. She looked at her 15 years old tall, slim, and dark sister.
' Yes...'
' Bro. Biyi is outside'.
' Oh...' She said and a big smile laced her face. Now she could leave that pompous fool alone, and her never contented Aunt.
' Paula, will you now leave him here...'
' Aunty...Please don't let me-' she said, hissed and stormed outside, banging the door behind her.
Her long dark hair flowed behind her, as she ran down the stairs, her body heaved with happiness, her pink straight-gown sticking to her body.
' Biyi...Biyi...'
' Hmm', Biyi said. He rested against his black Toyota camry.
' Whoa...' She shouted as she got to the last step. Not minding, the drainage in front of her, she jumped over him and in her happiness, she didn't see the smug look on his face.
' You look so happy to see me'.
' Yes ooo... Aunty Kenny wants me to start a relationship with Daddy's friend's son. And it seem they've all planned it. They were like, 'you are growning old' that I'm a flower. What's their concern ah?'
' Good', Biyi said in low tone.
' Good?'
' I wasn't talking about that... See-' Biyi said and stood straight, and she looked up at him. He was six feet tall, about 0.5 taller than she. His trimmed beard made her heart lurch even as his hand went to her cheek.
' I think we've got to break up'.
Everything went silent. Paula stared at him, and widened her eyes. Her hearing and the other senses focused on Biyi.
' What...Why...What did I do wrong?'
' It's not you... It's not you. It's just that...' He hissed, released her face and turned around. ' I just can't stand you being my girlfriend anymore'.
Her eyes suddenly had the feeling of sand in them. Her heartbeat suddenly began to increase tempo and her body, hotter than before even though the harmattan of December had appeared and was supposed to make everywhere looked like an ice room.
' What did I do?' She said, tears flowed down her eyes. She moved forward. She held his cloth. And held her breathe.
' It's not what you've done...' He said turning,' it's what you've not done. I don't want you to be my girlfriend anymore.
He went down on his knee. Her mouth remained opened. Her face was transfixed. Not on his face, not on his kneeling position. Rather, her eyes were fixed on his hand, it contained a case and in it was a ring.
' Will you break up with me as a girlfriend and be my wife?'
The jewel on the ring shone. And she nodded. She nodded again. And she nodded severally. 'Yes...Yes...You idiot...Yes...'
She said repeatedly as she went to hug him, tears pouring down her eyes.

Crayfish

Jimi knocked Lola's door. And waited patiently. He
blew air severally to strenghten his courage.
They had been friends for three years now, and he
hadn't tell his mind.
' Yes? Who's there?'
' Jimi..'

' Ah...Crayfish.' She said as she opened the door.
And gave him a warm hug.
He stood there, with his hands behind him.
He had just read a story on Nigerian Writers' Hub.
A guy delayed telling his friend how much he
loved her, and when he did, he made it look like a
surprise. But it failed.

He brought out his hand from his back. And held
her hands.
' I don't want another seconds to pass...before I
tell you how much I love you'.
' You said...'

His eyes darted from her face to the other part of
the room. She didn't hear him. That was good. He
was making a fool of himself. Maybe, she wanted
them to just be friends. Just friends. He would
change the topic. Or he could say when they
entered the house.

' I said I....' He shook his head.
' I said I love you. I love you with all my heart. I
want to spend the rest of my life with you as my
love...'
She stared at him. The wind blew past him, and
the Harmattan cold tapped the back of his head
but he stood still.
He had released her hand. She gave him a
resounding slap.

The force pushed him back. The stories he had
read on Nigerian Writers' Hub had always yielded
good results. He never knew the result would fall
like this.
' Never ever in your life...' She shouted and
pointed at him. ' Never ever play such prank on
me again.'
He wanted to tell her he was sorry for loving her,
he was sorry for telling her his mind about how he
felt towards. He knew he had done it foolishly
maybe he should have waited more.
' I'm not playing prank on you', he said as he held
his face. The pain of the slap, mixed with the
dryness of the harmattan season made him stick
his hand to that part of his face.
' I really love you...I'm not playing prank.'
Nigerian Writer's Hub had pushed him to do what
he didn't plan but he must now show her his
confidence. Afterall, it was confidence that helped
Ebuka pass his last question in the interview
question by Akintayo Akinjide.
' Shut up! Shut up!! Why did you keep me waiting
for so long? I had planned that anybody that tells
me his mind will be my BF because it seemed you
didn't love me'.
Just then, a whatsapp message entered her phone.
She looked down at it, smiled, looked at Jimi and
hugged him.' God saved you. I would have kill you
for losing me to another man'.
She passed the phone to him. It was a message
from a guy, Kay.
' Lola, I love you as I have told you before. I really
love you.'

Literature › The Cues Were In Sight by Divepen1(mod): 6:52am On Dec 10, 2015
By Akintayo Akinjide
The Cues Were In Sight.
When one steps into a room with a working Air
Conditioner, the skin immediately detects the
change in temperature. Even the nose is not
exempted.
Ebuka felt the cold internally. And the eyes of the
people he saw almost made him run back. They
were not smiling, they looked at him as if he was
the badluck they've been praying would be gone
from their lives.
He swallowed as he moved near the chair.' Good
Morning'.
' Good Morning, Mr.... Ebuka...'
He moved towards the seat. That was his first
interview since the day he was born. He never
gotten the chance to attend any interview in his
University days- he pratically ran from them.
He was about to sit, when he saw the pupil of one
the interviewers dilated. He knew what that meant.
He had read it somewhere. Yes, he had read it
somewhere.
It was one of the stories he read on Nigerian
Writers' Hub.
He stood aright. He moved near the chair and
stood still. One of the interviewers raised the upper
part of face, another released a deep breathe and
he knew he was right.
' Please have your seat', a fat man said, grumpily.
' Thank you sir'.
' So can we know you'.
Immediately, he remembered reading ' The Best
Interview answers'. He smiled. He felt happiness
run through his bloodstream, he smiled again,
snickered, and smiled again. The book was one of
the 10 books he had to read as a Finalist in the
Insightt Organisation(in his University day) in four
weeks. And it entailed the best 50 ways to answer
this questions.
Then the interview proper came on and he
answered to his best knowledge, watching the
emotion.
' I like you...' A woman said, nodding severally,
her eyes squinted as she bent to write something.
He smiled again. And took in a deep breathe.
' Good', a lanky man said. Ebuka had been hoping
this man would talking.
He read it somewhere that when you subtly imitate
your interviewers, they like you. He smiled again.
And he was ready to mimick this man too as he
had done for others.
' So tell me. How will you put an Elephant in a
freezer?'
He felt like shouting. He felt like running out of the
room in excitement. He felt like...God! Tears
formed in his eyes in excitement. He never
believed this. Books were making his day go
smoothly. He felt like crying.
' I'll cut the Elephant into the freezer'.
The man stared at him. And that rattled him. He
sat straight in his seat. His heartbeat increased.
Had he done something wrong? He wanted to give
another answer. He swallowed hard as the man
watched him. There was no gesture to copy from
the man. If he suddenly changed to the man's way
of sitting, the people in the room would notice and
that was not good according to one of those
psychology books he read.
He held himself from talking. He must exhibit
confidence.
The man sat straight.
' Please go outside and wait with others'.
Ebuke knew he should have talked. He should have
said something else. But the article he read on
Nigerian Writers' Hub made it clear that if he filled
the gap he was just blabbering.
After everyone had been given a letter and he
didn't get any, he knew he was wrong with
somethings. At that time, he wasn't sure he got all
the answers he thought he got. Maybe, he was
talking too fast that they didn't hear what he said
clearly.
' Mr. Ebuka Izuchucku, please come to the
interview room'.
Second chance. He must not make any mistake.
' It would be wrong to decieve you. You're the last
person we would be interviewing and you are really
good. I don't how you did it but you intrigue us
all. It would be a waste of time to tell you to come
back. So, we would like to discuss your salary
now...'
Till they finished talking, the only thought that
flashed on his mind was 'God bless Nigerian
Writers' Hubs'.

I was just joking around.

Shola entered. I knew there was trouble. She headed straight for Ben.
'You are mad', she shouted. And moved towards yet did nothing. She looked at his eyes and retracted.
I wondered why he stood looking at her.
'You areca bastard', she shouted again and moved towards him.
Why was he not talking? I wondered.
She held his cloth and dragged it. ' you nincompoop'.
He shook his head and I knew there was more to more than the eye can meet.
He gently used his hand to ward her off.
'I'm coming back for you', she shouted and left towards the boutique.
His eyes widened. I swallowed as I wondered what was wrong with my neighbour.
He had abused Shola, the owner of Rich Beauty boutique. And had even fought her. He dragged her outside until he received a phone call. And he left her.
I even thought he was mad.
Now, as she left his side, he opened his mouth, widened his eyes, and swelled. I perceived he held his breathe.
She opened the door and the shop exploded.
'Noooi' He shouted and ran towards the shop but another explosion rocked the place and threw him back, making him go unconscious.
He knew something. I was sure.

Literature/Writing Ads › Join Fiction School On Whatsapp. by Divepen1(mod):
For some weeks now, I've been training some guys on how to write fiction and I think we should not limit it to those few.

So, I've written a comprehensive textbook to that effect. Else, it will be more of rambling. Despite the textbook, I have made plans on how every of my student will surely publish a book before graduating from the class.
All you'll need is to get the books
1. Lite Fiction Help( tools, rules and exercises to help you finish that novel) on Okadabooks at https://www.okadabooks.com/book/about/10464 for 200naira( there are different option for payment).

and
2. Lite Character Chart ( the best tool for building that unique character) at Okadabooks : https://www.okadabooks.com/book/about/10465 for 100 naira.

But if you don't have the means to get it on Okadabooks, I can send you the PDFs at the amount.
All you'll need to do is to send me a PM in my box or email.
So, your source of payment( if you are not on Okadabooks) will be to
either pay
1. 300 naira to my Gtb account or
2. 400 naira etisalat recharge card.

However, if you don't want to join the group but need the materials. You can still get the materials in the same ways I've stated up there.

Nairaland General › To The Many Nigerians That Used France Flag On FB by Divepen1(op): 5:35am On Nov 19, 2015
To as many that pasted France's flag on their pics, you have shown that you are human. But we need to think, which country ought to have its flag on people's pics Nigeria or France? We are faced with the news of the death of our country men daily yet nobody thought it wise to use our pics. Even Naira land that stood as Nigeria Most visited forum have not done anything. Everyday these people say God bless their country. But people sleep when Mummy G.O is leading prayer for Nigeria. Your country men die everyday and you prefer crying over road accidents than bombblast . I commiserate with every nations that lose their men but if my country, Nigeria don't have its pix for everyone to use I prefer crying for them, for the evil in men's heart than paste a flag on my pixsl. God bless Nigeria
