Politics / Re: On Wike,Rivers state Election Re Run And Ndiigbo In Rivers State. by djayxpro: 2:33am On Nov 10, 2015
pazienza:
"My advice also to the Igbos is this: Be Neutral. No open endorsement of any candidate. Let APC and PDP square it out themselves. Wike vs Dakuku is just an election. Violence should not rear its ugly head this time around. Let the best man emerge victorious".

O my, you're the hero of this. All I read before your liberating post was filth and tribalistic, self-seeking nonsense.

Y'all heard this fellow, right? LET THE BEST MAN EMERGE VICTORIOUS. Do not let tribe play any role in this for the good of our/my people. You probably have not heard that under Wike's watch, regardless of the amount of money the state makes everyday, students are left stranded in schools abroad without allowances. Some have even been sent back home.

What exactly has Wike done for Rivers people? What can he do for us to advance and compete internationally as a state in every aspect (health, education, poverty eradication, equal opportunity for even the common man, etc) based on his background? If he can't do any of these, WE DO NOT WANT HIM or anyone for that matter who can't make us develop at a speed. Let this be the sole reason you cast a vote for any of the candidates in the rerun election.

Please, let us simply let the best man emerge victorious. Don't drag biafran sentiments into this, please. We have suffered enough over tribalism, nepotism and what not.

By the way, I do not care about APC or PDP, Ikwerre, Ogoni or Okrika, just the best man, even if he or she comes from KOWA or Hope Party or Tiv. #justsaying. Let us act like progressive people and discuss elections like human beings, biko.

You Ndiigbos have my respect for your solidarity. How great it would be, if this solidarity is put to good use. Igbo kwezue Nu ooo!
Health / Urgent Public Serv. Announcement: Product Withdrawal! Save The Sight Of Our Kids by djayxpro: 11:48am On Sep 06, 2015
Early in September 2015, in Yobe State in Nigeria, a three-week old baby was brought to a doctor with corneal ulceration leading to immediate blindness. The doctor took a detailed history, and the only possible cause that he could find was the use of what the mother described as “eye drops”, given to her as part of a pack to support the delivery. The doctor asked the mother to go home and bring in the “eye drops”. She went home and returned with a bottle similar to the one below.

Chlorhexidine digluconate 7.1% solution packaged in a white plastic bottle distributed in Nigeria (photo)

The contents of this bottle is chlorhexidine digluconate 7.1% solution packaged in a white plastic bottle apparently manufactured by Galentic Pharma (India) Pvt Ltd http://www.galentic.com/, as can be seen on the picture. The problem with this is that chlorhexidine digluconate 7.1% is licensed for use in Nigeria for use as an antiseptic gel to be applied to the newborn’s cord stump to prevent infection. Most people reading this will associate the container as the usual means of dispensing eye drops in Nigeria. It should never have been applied to the eyes, and therefore should never have been delivered in containers generally used for eye drops, especially when you are targeting an intervention at the poor living in mostly rural communities. It has been distributed in Yobe since March 2015.

What are the consequences so far? There are five known cases of irreversible blindness associated with the use of these drops already, three reported in Yobe State and two in Adamawa State. The three children in Yobe are 3 weeks, 4 weeks and two years. Old. All their parents were uneducated, their fathers, farmers. This will represent the socio economic circumstances of many people in the area. An unknown number of these containers were distributed to patients in Yobe, Adamawa through government primary healthcare centres. The source of these bottles is not yet clear. They do not have a NAFDAC number inscribed on them. It is not clear if they were distributed in other states in Nigeria. We have some very graphic pictures of the consequences of these drops on children, which we have decided not to show here.

What has been the response? Many astute and hardworking physicians and other health care workers have personally led advocacy campaigns and search efforts to retrieve as many of these bottles still in circulation. Our understanding is that the Federal Ministry of Health and its agencies; National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) www.nafdac.gov.ng, whose vision is to “safeguard the health of the nation” and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) www.nphcda.gov.ng have responded to this, as well as the Yobe State Government, trying to find and retrieve as many of the remaining bottles in circulation. The Yobe State Ministry of Health has reached out to all the Primary Health Care and Maternal and Child Health coordinators in the Local Government Areas with relevant information and apparently all the remaining stock of the drugs have been collected and as much as possible, those that were already dispensed traced and retrieved. It is clear that health workers did not actually prescribe the drugs for use in eyes but the packaging was misleading and parents mistakenly used these as eye drops. Local awareness campaigns have been carried out and the three children affected in Yobe are getting care and support. At the time of publishing this piece, none of the responsible agencies, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), or the Yobe State Ministry of Health has made any public announcement, and there is nothing on any of their websites.

What YOU need to do: If you are a clinician reading this, especially if you are practicing in northern Nigeria where the few cases have been reported, look out for the bottles in the image above and retrieve these. Immediately contact relevant authorities with the information. Please inform any clinician that you know who deals with children on the situation and ask them to look out for these bottles. Distribution chains are generally weak and porous in Nigeria, but we know how well we can work together when there are concerted efforts. Details of the product being withdrawn is as below:

Composition: Chlorhexidine Digluconate Solution BP 7.1%

Manufacturing Licence No.: KD-214

Batch No: Variable

Manufacturing Date: Variable

Expiring Date: Variable

NAFDAC No: None

Manufactured By: Galentic Pharma(India) Pvt Ltd, R- 673 MIDC, T.T.C., Rabale, Thane Belapur Road, Navi, Mumbai, India.

What you do need to know about Chlorhexidine Gel: Used appropriately, the evidence is that this gel, leads to a reduction in the risk of death by 23% (check: www.ghspjournal.org/content/1/1/5/T1.expansion.html ) in children when applied on the umbilical stump. We wrote this piece on Nigeria Health Watch (find here: http://nigeriahealthwatch.com/against-all-odds-a-small-miracle-is-taking-place-in-bauchi/ ) highlighting the impact of its introduction in Bauchi and Sokoto States. Read here an excellent recently published article (find here: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0134040 ) on the impact of the gel in Sokoto and lessons learnt from its introduction. The only licensed formulation of chlorhexidine in Nigeria is as a GEL in a TUBE; which is what is recommended and manufactured in Nigeria. Chlorhexidine is life saving when applied appropriately on the cord, but should not be applied on any other part of the body. Its appropriate use is described in the image below.

The correct application of Chlorhexidine Gel (photo)

What are the unanswered questions?

1. How can a drug, not registered by NAFDAC, not appropriately packaged, end up being distributed to mothers in government health care facilities? Who procured, imported, authorized, distributed this product? Where did the product governance processes fail?

2. What assurance can be given to the Nigerian public that ALL of the bottles that were procured and distributed have been retrieved? The information on numbers procured, distributed and retrieved must be shared publicly to restore and assure public confidence.

3. In 2014, the Nigerian Ministry of Health granted regulatory approval for the production Chlorhexidine Digluconate 7.1%, by a local company, Drugfield Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Why should this commodity be imported at all?

4. What are the medico-legal consequences for healthcare providers through the entire chain from clinicians to government to the regulators through to the manufacturers, considering the implications of a life without vision for the babies involved?

5. How do we safeguard the legitimate use of lifesaving chlorhexidine gel in Nigeria?

Again – the governance of several aspects of our health system has left a lot to be desired. As authorities investigate this issue, emphasis should be less on what happened, but on how it could possibly have happened.

Business / Re: Share Your Experience On The New Nigeria Paypal by djayxpro: 1:37pm On Aug 02, 2014
mrrock: It's a pity despite the bad image Nigeria receive on account of internet related activities many Nigerians remains uninformed about so many things on the internet.
Recently, paypal started allowing Nigerians use their service legitimately. But, from what I'm reading online of user experiences it appears Nigerians are having problems with completing transactions and as usual we're quick to blame it on Nigeria instead of paypal. Therefore, I decided to create this thread to let people share their experience with the new Nigeria paypal.
The reason I'm doing this is to get everybody causious of paypal. I opened my first paypal account sometime in 2003 not long it was founded. From my person experience with paypal before they arrived Nigeria I can tell you it's not a perfect payment option though they've hyped themselves to be believed as such. For your information paypal was founded by a hacker who wanted a method he could use to accept payment online anonymously. And it still bear remnants of that original purpose it was founded. You will do better just using paypal to accept payment fraudulently or legally as the case may be than using it to PAY. I can go as far as telling you they lean towards sellers most of the time than buyers and they do not truly care about both, all they truly care for is taking their commission from you after a transaction. Just go to google and type "paypal is a scam" and you will see countless users complaining.
If you do not want to tell sad tales about your money DO NOT use paypal to buy anything online other than ''download products'' of $5, $10, $50, such things. That's the only thing it's good for. Once you begin using it to send or accept payments of from $100 you will start having a bad taste. The whole paypal thing is still an idea in process. Paypal is not yet a standard means of payment and they have no rules. They keep shifting the goal post any time you have a complaint against them. They don't tell you all this but I want Nigerians know.
Let us know:
1. Have you used your Nigeria paypal to complete a transaction without problem?.
2. Was this transaction a product shipped you or an online service like a download?.

Hi.

If not Paypal, what? Is there a business corp like Paypal no matter how small? If Nigerians don't go for Paypal, what could be the alternative? #justcurious...

Personally, I use Paypal, not for huge transactions, but ebay and below $100 stuff. I have never been scammed (I think). grin

How is Paypal of benefit to individuals (besides the safe payment stuff)? Oh, and how is Paypal 'detrimental' to developing countries, but not to developed countries? ...and what's the benefit for individuals in developed countries?

[complete fresher in anything economics here. Forgive my very basic questions]

1st, your mindset, i used to think of math just the way you do, worse of all, my teachers were not helping (dem been boring die!! cho!). my turning point came when i became driven by the desire to amass knowledge and teach others the way the 'best'students in class were.

2nd, keep solving math problems and do your best to sit in front in class for, at least, math classes. it'd help. there'd be this tendency to gist with your friends in class when the math teacher walks in or, you mite just feel like falling asleep: front seats keep you alert and prevent the gist tendency. Solving math problems would build your confidence. whatever questions you get wrong, proactively seek to be corrected.

No challenge is too big such that you can't conquer. PRAYER is KEY!!! I didn't enjoy math yet i came off with B2s in WAEC, NECO & WAEC GCE and a C4 in f/maths (WAEC) without malpractice, you can too!

Presidential to Oil Mill you try sha o, usually i do the naija-thought stuff in the PHCBus from Isaac Boro Park to Oyigbo, Anyways, i have problem with the PHCbus scheme. I'm in Lag at the moment. I've seen how the BRT bus operates as i usually go from terminus to terminus (Mile 12-CMS, to be exact). I've observed how, unlike our PHCBus, the BRT scheme is properly co-ordinated; drivers and conductors are always in the right attire, tickets are sold before boarding, etc, i look forward to seeing these in Port Harcourt.

permit me to SAY

, in my years of blogging on this forum, this one thread is the sanest. 'level-headed people giving responses after deep thought', no wonder ye all have IDEA problems, lol,

the one LAW of mine that has stood the test of time and that may never be proven wrong is this: 'one thing leads to another'.

Just as we are inter-connected, so are abstract things like IDEAS. Arrange your ideas in that order, bro. Try to solve your puzzle, you'd be shocked that the one which requires less time and less capital can lend you the right contacts for the big one.

uh, there's nothing beyond your reach, not even the sun. Only that when you reach for the sun, you get burned. GET SPONTANEOUS, bro. READ BOOKS, HEAR TESTIMONIES/STORIES, PLAN WELL, TAKE ACTION. kuorire!
Computers / Re: Why Are Nigerians So Crazy About 2go by djayxpro: 3:12am On Aug 06, 2011
lol, the posts here are so funny!!

Well, there's a downside to everything; even being called your name (people mispronounce and erode it of it's beauty).
2go has helped me in the following ways:

I got a room to stay in school at no cost and maximum comfort ( A friend of mine met someone on 2go who i eventually stayed with during my first semester of my first year in school @ no cost and yea! NO HIDDEN CHARGES).

I re-met my Africhat, Nairaland friends there, even my neighbours and cousins i had neither seen nor spoken to in 8yrs. My friends in jand too. We talk more for less.

i met a contact in one of the so called 'annoying' chatrooms. he's a manager of a company and i've not regretted one second of knowing him. He's like a mentor to me and whatever ideas i have for the growth of his company and his self-advancement, i share with him. I've met him. He aint FAKE!

i really don't enjoy the rooms too; there's usually a lot of 'beefing' so i use the 'GoGames' instead (GoWords and all). The 'GoCREDITS' charge for posts in rooms should teach us to be careful were we tread (are you gaining or losing?) of course! Getting insulted on your own GoCredit is BAD INVESTMENT.

Well, the very bad disadvantage is that people are now replacing chatting with calls and so if i'm not online for a week, my friends might not call and all important info would have to wait till i'm online. THIS IS EXTREMELY so BAD. DEAR 2GO USERS (2GOers), CHATTING SHOULD NOT REPLACE CALLS OR YOU MAY NEVER SPEAK TO YOUR GRANDMA,

now, i'm not usually online as i used to be cuz PRIORITY has set in, although the scar of my past is still there -the digits on my keypad have been erased-, but my 2go experience has taught me to type with the speed of light. i type messages without looking into my phone, i'm a VETERAN, lol

Just this year, some universities had their medical licenses removed by NUC. Schools like Igbenidion, Uniben amongst others fall into this category. Anyway, i learnt from a reliable source that some schools are soon to fall into the category too. unfortunately, i cannot let y'all on the list of these schools as i hold that in strict confidance, but by creating this thread, i hope we would all give ideas on what could make a school lose its license and share our ordeal/experiences/ what we did when we happened to be in this predicament.

Many Christians around the globe are faced with heart-failing challenges and sometimes because they do not have a spiritual/in-depth meaning of the printed words in the holy scripture, they falter.

Sometimes, i get so frustrated cuz of challenges and the only thing that can pull me out of my confusion is a word of assurance.

Anyway, in my quest for a refuge in my storm time and an understanding of the truth in the Bible, i came across a blogger's blog (and i am glad i did!), as this blogger, 'rightly divided the word' to my understanding and inspired me as he shared stories about his walk with Jesus; he even shared revelations given to him by GOD.
