Politics / Benue May Cut Alignment With North Over Killings by dnte(m): 8:42am On Jan 23, 2018
…Stakeholders warn against attack on Agatu
…It’s time to make new friends —Unongo

By Peter Duru

MAKURDI – DISTURBED by the recurring attacks on Benue communities and the attendant large death tolls, leaders of the state have mandated the state government to cut socio-political alignment with the North, if the killings continued.

Pained that it took northern governors three weeks to visit the state after the killing of 73 people by herdsmen and even up till now President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to visit the state, the leaders said it was time to revive the old Middle-Belt of late Joseph Tarka or seek alignment with the South.

Various Benue stakeholders, including serving and former elected leaders, elder statesmen and leaders of ethnic nationalities in the state echoed these views at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held at Government House, Makurdi.

Unanimously, the stakeholders called for the restructuring of Nigeria to address the numerous challenges facing the country.

Defend yourselves, Unongo charges Benue people Speaking at the meeting, former Minister of Steel, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, urged Benue families to defend themselves and not allow herdsmen slaughter them like chicken.

His words: “I am urging you because I know that under the UN chatter, if your government fails to protect you, you can protect yourself; it is no crime. Our people should, therefore organise, themselves around the traditional rulership to defend yourselves.

“And I also state categorical on our alliance with the North, that if in time of need your own friend is not going to help you, you are under bounds to make new friendship that will be mutually beneficial.”

The elder statesman insisted that President Buhari should come to the state to condole with the people, noting: “It was for this reason that I refused to be part of the delegation to the President.”

We’ve given Ortom ultimatum to pull out of NGF, monarchs council — Igede

On the part of the ethnic leaders, Chief Ode Enyi, President-General of Omi ‘Yi Igede, said: “We have given the state government ultimatum to pull out of the Northern Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council if the killings in Benue persisted and after issuing that ultimatum the killings are continuing. So, the wishes of the people must be obeyed.”

Let’s revive Middle-Belt — Dyegh

On his part, member of the House of Representatives for Gboko Federal constituency, Mr. John Dyegh, urged the people to revive the Middle Belt Forum, the platform through which the likes of legendary late Joseph Tarka propagated the interest of the people of the state and middle belt.

Northern govs came to mock us —CAN

In his speech, state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigerian, CAN, Rev. Akpen Leva, expressed the disappointment of the church over the visit of the Northern Governors’ Forum to the state three weeks after the killings.

He said: “The church is disappointed in that visit because it was more of a mockery. We will continue to demand justice over the unprovoked murder of our children, pregnant women and the elderly.”

Agada raises the alarm over herdsmen influx into Agatu

Former Minister of State for Education, Prof. Jerry Agada, raised the alarm of a large influx of suspected herdsmen into Agatu, disclosing that the Ardo of the area has told the people that they would come into the area irrespective of the provisions of the grazing law. He cautioned against any attack on the area.

It’s time to have state police — Hagher

One-time Ambassador to Canada and Mexico, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, said the people of the Benue Valley were at war and the Federal Government that was supposed to protect them had failed to do so, adding that the development called for urgent restructuring of Nigeria to pave way for the creation of state police.

80,000 people are now displaced —Gov Ortom

Earlier in his opening speech, Governor Samuel Ortom said: “Because of the crisis, we are now faced with over 80,000 internally displaced persons, IDPs, in camps located at Daudu, Gbajimba, Utsav, Anyiin and Ugba. Let us continue to be firm. Let us continue to be law-abiding and not take the law into our hands or embark on reprisals. What we see happening now is deliberate. They want us to be angry and do their desire but we are not going to do their bidding.

“No matter the intimidation, blackmail and name-calling there is no going back on the Benue grazing law because it is for the good of all, herdsmen and farmers alike.”

Politics / No Land For Colonies In Benue, Benue Delegation Tells Buhari by dnte(m): 7:20pm On Jan 15, 2018
Prominent leaders from Benue State have told President Muhammadu Buhari that there is no land to allow for the establishment of cattle colonies as being proposed by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh.

They made their position known to the president on Monday after they held a closed door meeting with him in the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who led the delegation and addressed the press after the meeting, said Mr. Ogbeh, “who is a son of the soil has explained that cattle colonies are a combination of several ranches” and is proposing that ten thousand hectares should be provided for that purpose.

“In Benue, we don’t have ten hectares for colonies, other states may have, but we don’t have in Benue State,” he said.

Among those in the delegation are former senate president, David Mark; former governor, George Akume, Senator Barnabas Gemade, Tor Tiv Orchivirigh James Ayatse and other traditional, political leaders and elders.

There goes another self-righteous being, didn't you understand a thing from my post? What is your definition of laziness? Is it everyone that understands online business? Is it everyone that has the level of education you have? If you are a teacher, is it all your students that grasp the information you are trying to pass along immediately?
I am a lecturer and I also run a company, I understand what is going on out there. The number of of consultancy jobs I usually get has dropped drastically, so because I don't do online business and I am feeling the brunt of this recession, I can now be termed as lazy? So Dangote, Adenuga and Otedola whose forbes ratings dropped because of this recession are now lazy? What are you even saying?
i never said online business is d only way out, "agriculture" is another way.. i understood ur post bt i dnt agree with d way u wer trying to polish ponzi schemes n make it look like its d only option. PONZI SCHEMES R MEANT FOR LAZI FOLKS.

sometimes I am pained by the level of insensitivity of some of you guys. Where is the work? Those working have had their salaries slashed, salaries are reducing and the price of commodities are more than quadrupling in the market, contractors are not getting paid, this recession is real, unless you are not in Nigeria. I don't do ponzi schemes, but it helps I've seen people it have helped and people it have sent to their early graves. Either way, life is a risk, and it's even a bigger risk not to take a risk. If you won't be involved in ponzi, stop critiquing and find a solution to this Nigerian problem/recession, how many people have you taken out of the job market? Stop pointing fingers and be the solution.
oga, i don't do ponzi scheme bt i make good money everyday online, only d lazy ones will complain abt recession and run after ponzi schemes. try nt to b one of dem..

Just believing something simply because someone told you, is dumb!

Did you ask how the eggs were packaged? No.
Did you ask if the eggs were the only things in the trunk? No.
Did you ask how many eggs were in the trunk? No.
Did you ask the detail of the accident? No.
Did you ask how the car crashed? No.

Your fictitious book (bible) brainwashed you people to not ask questions about your imaginary god. Why? Because the more questions are, the more the truth is revealed about you non-existent god.

In the real world, the only way to differentiate between fact and fiction is by being curious and inquisitive. If I tell you that saw a snake that has a human head, would you believe me blindly? I won't be surprised if you do, most Nigerians believe craps.
but you believed the "so called big bang theory" because some scientists told you ryt?... SMH

Crime / N2.175 Billion Fraud Discovered In Ministry Of Defence by dnte(m): 6:40am On Nov 23, 2016
The presidential committee investigating arms purchase has uncovered a whopping N2.175 billion fraud in one of the agencies of the Ministry of Defence.
The money, meant for arms procurement, was allegedly diverted.
According to a report by Daily Sun newspaper, the committee said the money meant for the project was paid in installments to some corporate bodies and Bureaux De Change.
The paper also added that the diverted money was part of the N35 billion the ministry took as loan from the Debt Management Office (DMO) to purchase equipment for troops on international peace-keeping mission with the aim of getting reimbursements from the United Nations.
Meanwhile, the presidential committee investigating arms purchase might not meet the November 30 deadline to submit its report.
Daily Sun said the committee is faced with challenged including been barred from requesting for documents and other materials from the agencies under probe.
The committee was accused of being biased and indicted those perceived to be enemies of the present administration as culprits in the illegal purchase of arms and ammunition for the military.

Although the committee has begun probing arms procurement for the Navy, but there was anxiety that the committee may not do a thorough job as was done for the Army, Air Force and the Defence Ministry.
