Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and Infertility :

PID is an infection of a woman`s reproductive organs. Is important to treat PID right away because it can cause scar tissue formation in the reproductive system.
It is a major cause of infertility as it causes fallopian tubal blockage and adhesions. It can cause other conditions such as : pelvic pain and tubal [ectopic] pregnancy.
PID is caused by bacteria entering the reproductive organs through the cervix. When the cervix is infected,bacteria from vagxna can more easily gain access to the fallopian tubes and infect the uterus.

SOME CAUSES OF PID
The major cause of PID is gonococci infection, Chlamydia, bacteria vaginosis. Other predisposing factors include Douching, IUD implant, Chronic candidiasis.

SYMPTOMS OF PID:
PID may not cause symptoms or may present with mild symptoms like bleeding, discharge. Some women may not know they have it until diagnosed during fertility tests. The most common symptom of PID is lower abdominal pain. The pain is usually crampy, dull with constant ache. It may worsen during xecs , during bowel motion or when you urinate. Some women also present with long standing fever.
PID is diagnosed through abdomino-pelvic ultra sound scan which indicates significant fluid accumulation in the Pouch of Doughlas [POD]
