Joshua, Usyk to get $40m for rematch The prize money for Saturday’s (today) heavyweight title rematch between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia has been revealed. According to Evening Standard, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk will each receive a guaranteed minimum of £33.2m ($40m) for their rematch. Recall that the duo went head-to-head on Wednesday at the final press conference ahead of the rematch. On noticing that Usyk had gotten bigger for the second fight, Joshua warned the Ukrainian that it won’t be enough and would only help him (Usyk) absorb more punishment. Anthony Joshua vows to punish ‘bigger’ Usyk “If you’re a puncher, punchers aren’t made, they’re born,” Joshua told Sky Sports News. Meanwhile, further reports say the pay for the rematch could rise close to $50m for either Joshua or Usyk if pay-per-view television sales reach a level sufficient to justify adding a bonus for the winner. Joshua will be attempting to reclaim the lost world heavyweight titles when he locks horns with Usyk once again in Saudi Arabia. This is must-win territory for ‘AJ’, who paid dearly for a misguided approach during the first fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September as he slumped to a dismal second professional loss.

Making a U-turn on Thursday, the singer said the phrase was used in it idiomatic sense not literally. He tweeted, "My since deleted tweet stating that I spat in a police officers face was an idiomatic expression to say I disrespected a police officer to his face and not the literal way people may have taken it on social media. I do not support violence or abuse against the police in any form. “Yesterday, I was in a life threatening situation which caused me to lash out due to the physical assault on me by some policemen who have now been brought to book. I stood on my right as a responsible Nigerian, despite the violence against my person and I do not want my deleted tweet to be taken seriously.” --

Mendy’s Accuser Recounts How Footballer Raped Her One of the accusers of Manchester City player, Benjamin Mendy, has told the court how the footballer trapped her in a bedroom in his house and raped her. According to AFP, the accuser recalled that she stayed the night at the player’s house in the village of Mottram St Andrew with a friend of the player and was having a shower when Mendy, who was wearing shorts, walked in on her. In a recorded interview which was played at Chester Crown court in England, the woman said she considered screaming but thought “there’s no point as he’s in his own territory” adding that she had felt “out of control” during the incident. She said, “I kept saying, ‘stop’ and ‘no’ but that wasn’t heard.” “I said, ‘You need to leave’, “I kept pushing him away, he kept grabbing me back. I just kept trying to wriggle out.” He got very close but I pushed him away as much as I could”, she added. The French player is facing eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape relating to seven young women and has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Mendy has since been suspended by City. --
