Every business needs a website, we hear that all the time, ok every business needs a mobile friendly and responsive website and again yes, we hear this all the time, it’s the mobile age after all. The latest and most talked about now is that every business just don’t need a website but a search engine optimized one, so that your website can grab the free traffic that a properly optimized website brings. Yes, most website have all of these. • They are slick, visually appealing. • Mobile friendly and responsive. • [b]Search engine optimized and much more. Yet something doesn’t seem to click. Users land on the site and still can’t find their way around the site and not able to tell what the website is all about, the organization behind it or what they do. We think that every website needs these 7 features listed below. 1) Your Home Page Must/And Should Tell What Your Website is All About. The home page is often the first port of call for most website users and most do not go beyond this point, while others go to the other points of interest on your site from here. That make's it imperative for you to capture your users attention as soon as they land on your site home page. Your website homepage should contain the following element A screaming headline: Normally done with the <h1> tag the screaming header should simply tell what your website is all about. Eg for an event management company, the screaming headline could be “Your event deserved a special treat” “Extraordinary events delivered”[ib] “Make it an event of a lifetime” etc. The sole purpose of a screaming headline, is to capture the attention of your site visitors within seconds and tell them what your site unique proposition is. A subheading that drives home the point + A CALL TO ACTION: following on the heals of a screaming headline is a sub-header text to drive home the point of the header text ( this can be a normal text or done with a header tag <h2> ) the point is simply to drive home the headline and something that will make them take action. Your Contact Details Within Sight: Normally aside from the usual places where you see contact details on a website, you can have one just within sight of your site visitors, in case they are in a hurry to place a call or drop a message through a form. This is normally just above the navigational bar, your visitors can easily give you a ring without having to scroll all the way down to the footer section of your site. A quick message/Lead generation form: Another important feature to have on your home page header section , is a quick message or lead capturing form. Here you just want your site visitors to quickly send you a message while they are still at the very top part of your website or use same for lead generation purposes, whereby you collate their contact details in a exchange of one of your expert resources in form of an ebook. Tell’s who you are, what you do and what differentiate you from your competitors: Before they head to the [i]“About us page”, from your site home page, they should be able to tell exactly what your business is all about, the unique proposition you offer and what differentiate you from your competitors. All of the above should be clearly stated. A Clear and inviting Call To Action ( CTA ): Here you want your site visitors to take action, you need something compelling to enable them take action which is what a Call to Action does. This can be achieved through a combination of action words, strong visuals and a compelling short video illustration. Eg, “Contact us to plan your next event” “Sign up for free consultation today” “Let’s build that website for you today” “Sign Up today and 25% discount from regular fee” etc. Your CTA should be compelling enough for your site visitors to take action and it should lead them to a page which further supports the message your CTA button/link covens. List of your products/services: Every website do have a services/products page, which often is one of the prominent navigational bar menu item which lists your business full offerings. Whereby a full page is dedicated to this, nothing stops you from adding a brief intro to your business services on your site home page with a link to the main services page. 2) Tell what your business is about with your “About Us Page”: Your site About us page is not optional, it’s an important part of your website that should ultimately tell the story of your business. This part is a bit difficult for one-man businesses especially those who work from their home addresses with no formal business structure. • Tell the story of your business • Share your business Vision, Mission and Core Values • Show your partners and testimonials from satisfied clients. • Including your team members and more. Read - https://doerstechnologies.com.ng/5-things-to-do-to-make-your-website-more-visible-to-your-target-audience 3) Have Call to Action (CTA) on every webpage of our site: We have already listed CTA as one of the features that should be on your site home page, it doesn’t stop there because your site visitors can land on any page of your site outside your home page. So, the CTA should be prominent on all your site pages including your posts and should maintain the same look and feel throughout your site. 4) Your website should have a logical flow and consistent look and feel about it: Yes, they should be a consistent look and feel about your site for the seek of usability and user experience of your site users. So, from your site • Logo • Usage of color, font and header styles • Navigation flow • Ordering of content structure • CTA and Contact information. In all of the above, a consistent structure, look and feel and design flow should be maintained so that your users don’t get confused as they move across the site and start wondering if they are on the same website or not. 5) Your Site Contact information should be within reach: Earlier we have highlighted why your business contact details should and must be within reach. One of the places this should be is the top part of your site, above your site navigational bar or at the right corner of your navigational bar. This could be your business hot-line or your email address. Aside from this, most website do have their contact details at the footer part of their site. This should be consistent across your site and should list • Your site pages • Contact details ( phone, emails and the rest ) • Social media account • And your site map ( HTML Sitemap ). 6) It must and should have a blog: Every website needs a blog for many obvious reasons. It shows your expertise on your business subject: How else can you prove to the world that you know what your business is all about? The number one way to do that is through your blog. Eg with this blog I’m showing my knowledge and in-depth understanding of my field, building my authority and telling my would-be clients that their jobs will be in safe hands. Increases your chances to rank higher and attract more traffic to your site: Enables you to break new grounds: Your site blog will enable you break new grounds, attract new audience to your site, retain old ones and as you share your contents across board, your business will be discovered by more and more people in your niche. Read - https://doerstechnologies.com.ng/9-questions-ask-web-designer-after-handing-over-your-website 7) Newsletter Signup’s How will you keep tab of your site visitors, especially those interested in your business offerings? How willl you let them know about your new offers and the solutions that can solve their business problems? How will you move them from just mere visitors to paying clients? That's where your newsletter signup and your site optin forms comes in. Ultimately your site newsletters signup form enables you to • Build relationships and connect propelling to your customers. • Increase your business audience. • And ultimately drives sales. Your newsletters enables you to relate with your customers on a different level and you're able talk to them personally in a language they can understand, build relationship with them and ultimately drive sales to your business with ease. BONUS: Other Important features every website must have includes but not limited to • Frequently Asked Questions on relevant pages ( especially products/services pages ) • Live Chat Feature and • Sitemap ( HTML ) Aside from the above 7 Top Features, they're other features that every website should consider some of which are based on the niche your website serves and your business overall goals. They could be many more important features every website must have eg E-commerce websites have theirs among others. My follow webmasters please ADD yours to the list. Sapiosexuality:That's why I said that's my own personal opinion. That's why we have tabs also, in case of emergency I use my tab to do some of these. To me blogging is a serious business and your phone is not a convenient tool for that. |
Emmanystone:Poverty is not sin.....as simply as ABC....Lazarus at the gate was solely poor...and so were many Holy Men in the scripture ....so how's poverty now a sin? The promises of the Lord are sure and Amen....if you claim them as His Child it will work for you as simply as ABCD. |
northvietnam:While you have a point there, the FD and TB are more secured and less risky than buying of Land ( which is a very good one both on short and long term ) as you may fall into wrong hands and lose your money completely. |
kingpole:Just spotted that Withholding tax thing in the doc I collected from my bank when I went to enquire about these. I understand there's a penalty for those that pulls out before the end of the fixed deposit tenure |
money121:That's a different thing all together, we are talking about instruments available in the banks Funny enough last Friday I had a chat with one of the banks I use on these things.... rather than keep money in an ordinary savings account, one can use one of these |
northvietnam:Which is better? |
When it comes to SEO 1) Rule number 1: Follow the rules including understanding what the latest google algorithm says. 2) Rule number 2: Make sure you have followed the rules. 3) Rule Number 3: Don't ignore offpage ( very very important ), technical and local SEO...becuase websites shall not live by OnPage SEO alone. 4) Rule number infinity: Repeat Rule 1 - 3, find out what works for you and Repeat.

Good one....this is now a serious business, and another innoson can spring forth from there.
|
While you can do all things with your smart phones .....including graphics.. Things like blogging, editing your blog post , webpages and the rest its much much better with your laptops, ( Mimi, big ) or worst still with tabs rather than phones.... That's my opinion though, except on a situation of extreme emergency , using my phone for any of the above doesn't occur. |
CreativeWeb:Fantastic Point OP I'm amazed at people arguing blindly just becuase they can code themselves or consider themselves as expert..... The truth is that to get the best out of CMS you still need to know how to code....OP never said one should abandone coding for CMS.....and in this present age there's no time to re-invent the wheels That's why we have all manners of frameworks ( the CSS ones, JS ones, PHP ones ) all in a bid to get peps to work faster and smarter. And to be a better CMS person ( WordPress ) You still need to know your HTML, CSS and PHP. I was in this situation before, not understanding the logic of using CMS and leaving my Mockup first ( Low + High fidelity) and then pulling up sublime text to start coding until a client that insisted on her site being built with WordPress forced me to learn and start using CMS. But i didn't and never abandoned my from scratch runs.....because not all site requires CMS and not all requires coding from scratch. If you know one, don't look down on the other and if you know both, then GREAT. |
Website or Forum or Both Combined....what you just listed , you build using WordPress |
folakemigeh:Sorry dear |
Am coming ... |
MO takes it |
questechie:I will definitely search and look through the post, your Keyword and its related phrases is one of the factors. others comes into play as well, saying that Keywords doesn't matter all all just because other factors worked for you doesn't add up. |
questechie:I never asked anyone to stuff Keyword, that's one of the reason's why keyword meta tag was discarded long time ago.... 1) Every page/post on a website must/should have a focus Keyword and then 2) Down the page, you should have variant of that keyword, synonyms examples are what you see on the footer part of SERP, those are similar things people search for relating to your keyword. check the image below.
|

MichaelRJ:They're different tools you can use to do your keyword research some of which are paid, Google Keyword planner is a free tool used by many which you can use as far as you have a gmail account. Just google "Google Keyword planner tool" and then sign in to get started. See images below....
|
cooldude62:Now your Keywords and it's related phrases are meant to be used on different part of your page/blog posts. 1) Your Page URL: You should reflect your page Keyword on your page/post URL. eg let's say you're writhing on a topic "How to Optimize a website" and your website name is www.cooldude62.com..The url for the post should be something like https:/www.cooldude62.com/How-to -Optimize-a-website" 2) Your meta tags: The next after your page URL is your meta tags ( which are your title and page description tags ) Your Title tag: Our page/post title should start with the target keyword(or it’s variant a different version of it)and it should be at the very beginning of your title tag. And if possible use modifiers eg Your title from the above can be "7 Ways to Optimize your website for search engine" etc Your Page/Post Description this is what comes in search results immediately after your page/post title tag. It should not just contain the page/post keyword but should include a CTA, something that will make your readers to click on it. eg "Looking for how to drive traffic to your website? Then use this 7 SEO Techniques to drive traffic to your website today" Other Places you should reflect your Keyword/Synonymy of the keywords ( Because you shouldn't Overflog your page/post with your Target Keyword ) 1) Your page/post image name and it's alt tag 2) Your page/post <header> tags starting with the <H1> tag which should have the main Keyword, and then break down your page/post with the <h2> tags but with the variant of the target Keyword 3) Your page/post internal link anchor text 4) Your page/post content: if your post is long enough, then the long tail version of the keyword ought to flow naturally into it. Hope i have made an attempt in answering this......feel free to ask questions |
OP's you made it sound as if Keyword Research plus Competitors research is different from SEO. How can you optimize website pages/blog without first conducting both Keyword and Competitors research? Where will the Meta tags ( Title and page description come from? ) Where will the short, head tail and long tail keywords that you will use to structure the page and blog post by using your <H1> and <h2> tags appropriately come from? Keyword and Competitors Research are part of parcel of your white hat SEO, you can't say you optimized a site or blog without doing both. |
Really? |
dollyjoy:This new year will be better for all of us |
OP 1)Your Question is between Blogger and WordPress which is easier? or simply to use? Both of them are easy to learn and you have tons of material on the web ( Tens of good hand's on Youtube Videos on both WP and Blogger ) that will teach you practically everything you need to know to build blogs and websites with them. Lot's of Nigerian bloggers use blogger primarily because of its free nature and also being a brainchild of Google, i used it personally as an amateur and i have nothing against those using it, but now that am into serious stuffs...I stick with WordPress when it comes to Content Management Systems (CMS) This article here from WPbeginer gives you a load down on both http://www.wpbeginner.com/opinion/wordpress-vs-blogger-which-one-is-better-pros-and-cons/ Please read it. So for now as a starter you can play around with both ( Blogger and free version of WordPress ) when you get serious and ready to invest money into your game, then go for WordPress self-hosted services ( pay for both your domain and host account ) and start building real life stuffs. You can also get any of the local servers like WAMP, XAMPP and build your site on your local pc. Still on WordPress, you can take a step further and join groups like this one https://www.meetup.com/Lagos-WordPress-Meetup-Group/ attend their meetings and learn more. 2) You have no knowledge of HTML and you want to rank and want to learn SEO..... HTML is the foundation and any blogger who knows his onion should know what HTML is about, be you an SEO, Digital marketer etc. It's important you know what HTML is about then build on it add CSS and JS and then move on to other Frontend technologies and the ones of backend. Barbecue if you're to get the best out of WP, to customize things the way you want, you have to know more than HTML, you must know your CSS very well and PHP. tThat said, they're tons of free tutorials on HTML and code in places like Codeacademy and Udacity. Even currently Andela and their likes are running various free Web design classes online that involves HTML, CSS and JS through their ALC program with Google, so look out for that and sign up. SEO goes beyond theory to practical they're tons of free materials on that on the web, but until you put it into practice, you're still a theorist on that. Read this article on how to find out if your website/blog is listed by search engines: https://doerstechnologies.com.ng/how-to-find-out-if-your-website-listed-search-engines Read this thread on 5 Things to do to make your Website/Blog more visible to your target audience: https://www.nairaland.com/4206168/5-things-make-website-more Both of them and other related article around them, will show you how to get fraction you desire for your blog. I have being building blogs and website using WordPress for sometime now, and if am to choose base on what i know, I will go for WordPress anytime anyday. Having said that, your ranking is not determined by WordPress or Blogger, what makes your rank higher than your competitor is 1) Doing your search engine optimization right (Onpage, Offsite, Local SEO and Technical SEO done properly ) 2) Having a content that serves your target audience ( because at the end of the day if your content doesn't appeal to your readers, then you're a goner ) 3) Reviewing what you're what's working for you and doing it again.
