I need a serious dog lover who can adopt my female bull mastiff dog. I don't want to put her up for sale so that I can have unhindered access to her. She dropped four pups sometimes in march but lost all the pups due to my busy schedules. I've not been able to attend to her lately and I can't watch her suffer.
I will prefer someone around Agbado/Ijaye/Kola or Sango area
Kindly drop your contact if you think you can take care of her.

A team of people and I have created an online community where you can connect with other pet lovers for purposes like this. You and create and account, post pictures of your dog and share it with people.

Pets / Why I Love The Afghan Hound by DogLover24(f): 8:08pm On Aug 08, 2018
I have always been fascinated with Afghan Hounds solely for their elegant beauty even though I have never had the opportunity to see one in person. Of all the sighthounds the Afghan hound is considered to be the most regal in appearance. However, in earlier times, Afghan hounds were bred for reasons beyond their beauty, they had a practical purpose which was to hunt. The breed’s panoramic vision and great speed were useful features used in keeping tracking of and pursuing prey. The breed was also valued for its ability to think and hunt independently, without human direction.

The Afghan Hound is an ancient breed said to predate written history, it is one of the oldest purebred dogs and it originates from what is now Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan.

The AKC states that the Afghan Hound is a special breed for special people and I agree if only for the high level of maintenance required to keep this dog. Extra care and attention need to be paid to the dog’s coat. The dog's independent nature and large size make it best suited as an adult companion.

Another noteworthy fact about the Afghan Hound is that the first cloned dog was one and he was named Snuppy. Have you seen an Afghan Hound before? Which of its feature is most striking to you?

One of the major benefits of having Nigerian breeders come together to pull off dog shows and events is the opportunity it creates for dog enthusiasts to see different dog breeds that are available here in the country. Living in Nigeria one is likely to have friends or family who only have common breeds like the Lhasa Apso, Rottie, Boerboel, German Shephard or the local dog. Fortunately, I have had the pleasure to see a couple of rare breeds while attending some dog events in Lagos. Some of these breeds are listed below:

Tibetan Mastiff

Popularly Known for being the most expensive dog breed in the world, the Tibetan Mastiff is a rare breed generally and a pure Tibetan Mastiff is difficult to find. The breed is massive in size with a thick mane. They make great guard dogs and are highly protective of family and property. The true origin of the breed is unknown but the dog's history is rooted in Tibet and some other parts of Asia

Dalmatian

I remember seeing this breed in the Lagos Dog Walk 2016 organized by Prodeegee Paws Nigeria and thinking it looked much smaller than it appears in pictures and movies. Little is known of the origin of the Dalmatian. In 19th century Europe, they were used as coach dogs riding alongside horse-drawn trucks and hacks. One fact you might not know about the Dalmatian is that puppies are born without the popular black spots.

Great Dane

The great Dane was developed in Germany where it was used for hunting and guard work. The breed was chosen as Germany's national dog in 1876. According to the AKC the Great Dane is one of the most elegant and distinguished of the giant breeds. The record for the tallest dog ever is held a Great Dane called Zeus.

Portuguese Water Dog

When I saw the Portuguese Water Dog at the Lekki- Ikoyi Dog Walk last year, I initially thought it was the Komondor until I was told the correct breed type. They are working dogs and make great companions. The breed has a non-shedding waterproof coat, which I consider a plus. In the early 20th century the breed faced extinction.

Bull Terrier

As the name implies the Bull Terrier is part Bulldog and part Terrier. They were developed in 19th century England for dog fighting (which is now illegal). They are medium sized and muscular, and can easily be identified by their egg shaped heads and triangular eyes. They are an energetic and active breed, which means they need to be kept busy and regularly exercised.

Dog shows in Nigeria usually happen in the last half of the year, hopefully, we get to see some more awesome breeds. Subscribe to wooflinepets.com to get notified of dog events around the country.

Pets / World's Ugliest Dog 2017 by DogLover24(f): 11:16am On Jul 07, 2017
Last year I remember writing about the World's Ugliest Dog 2016 and some of the readers being repulsed by the winner's appearance. Well, it turns out we have a new champ! A few weeks ago a 3-year-old Neopolitan Mastiff named Martha was crowned the world's ugliest dog 2017. It was quite surprising for me to learn that this year's winner is a Mastiff since previous winners have been small breed dogs.

The organizers of the annual contest said the competition isn’t about mocking the participants. Instead, it’s about celebrating the unique beauty of all dogs ―including those that may not be considered Westminster-worthy.
“We’re proud to celebrate all dogs and pets by showing that no matter their imperfections, they are adoptable, lovable and a great addition to any family,” Erin Post, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Fair, told NPR. For almost 30 years, the World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been a crowd favorite at the fair. (Culled from Huffington Post)

Judging from these pictures I think Sweepee, the 17-year-old Chinese Crested Chihuahua who formerly held the title should have been allowed to keep it. What are your thoughts, do you think if there was such a contest here in Nigeria your dog will be eligible to participate?

In a previous post, I went over the things to consider before getting a dog, you can read that up here (http://wooflinepets.com/2016/10/08/things-consider-dog/). I believe that buying or adopting a dog is a huge commitment, and a lot of factors need to be considered before taking the step. In short, you should never buy a dog on a whim.
