naptu2: Old news. Circa 2006 the FG ordered Seastar drones from Israel (for use in the Niger Delta, etc) . The Americans were angry about the deal because there was no competitive bidding for the contract (in which american companies would have competed for the deal).
Circa 2011 there were allegations that the drones and other military equipment procured from the Israelis and Chinese were fake. I don't know if the allegations were true or if it was a result of demarketing by the americans.
Nigeria also has home-made drones (amebor 1, 2 and 3). These americans their whala is too much on us oo. Y are they always angry with what we do? Is it their money? |

Politics › I Won’t Stop Attacking Nigerian Websites –irish Hacker by dokunbam(op): 11:42am On Jul 08, 2013 |
An Irish hacker, Paddyhack, who attacked Nigeria’s official website, www.nigeria.gov.ng, says he/she is suspending the crackdown. Paddyhack had attacked the website last Thursday in protest against the Nigerian government’s anti-gay stance.
The hacker, says the decision is to commiserate with the Nigerian government over the killing of about 40 pupils of Government Secondary School, Mamudo, Yobe State on Saturday.
The hacker who defaced the portal before it came up shortly around mid-night last Thursday, had said in a Twitter post that “a torrent of fury will be unleashed on Nigeria’s government due to the unfair and unjust treatment of homosexuals in their country.” The hacker had vowed that the defacement of the official web portal was a “first step in a long line of attacks aimed against Nigeria until they back down on their stance on arresting gays in their country for up to 14 years.”
In the campaign themed #OpNigeria, the hacker who claims to be a member of the ‘Anonymous Group’ – the globally renowned hacker-activism group which has successfully hacked into official websites of United States Federal Government agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigations and US Department of Defence, had given President Goodluck Jonathan 72 hours to “renounce and veto this Bill.” The ultimatum was expected to lapse mid-night Sunday.
However, the news of the school attack broke at about 2.pm on Saturday, while the hacker, who uses the Twitter handle, @paddyhack, was having an online interview with our correspondent. “Just reading about the school shooting by extremists. Truly awful.’’ Two hours after the news broke, the hacker states in a tweet, “#OpNigeria postponed until next week due to the death of 40+ kids by extremists in Nigeria.’’
Responding to subsequent enquiries, the hacker says “deadline called off, I’ll decide when to resume’’ next week. The dissenter added that adequate ‘’warning’’ will be given to the Nigerian government to retrace its steps before resuming the campaign next week. Paddyhack, who refused to disclose the number of Nigerian websites he had compromised into, claims to have ‘’uncovered corruption’’ in the process. “I was not expecting to uncover corruption. I’m discussing this with other Anonymous members and I’m trying to fully identify who these people are. I will expose the guilty when the time is right,”
Paddyhack explains to our correspondent. In a tweet, the rebel adds, “A lot of emails to sift through.” While fielding questions from our correspondent, the hacker says though the campaign has been postponed, it will not end ‘’anytime soon’’ if the government refuses to softpedal on its tough stance on gays in the country. “I operate alone, but as part of Anonymous. I am on anti-hate campaign. Nigeria’s proposal to jail gays is disgusting. I’m not gay, but people shouldn’t be jailed for love. I am protesting the lack of humanity imposed by the Nigerian government. I will disappear if it (anti-gay bill) gets dropped,’’ the hacker adds.
Asked what position he or she occupies in the Anonymous group, and what links he/ she has with the local Nigerian hacking group, NaijaCyberHactivists or any Nigerian gay group, the hacker replies, “There are no leaders or ranks in Anonymous. I am not affiliated with any Nigerian, or any gay group. I don’t know anything about NaijaCyberActivists.’’
However, in a move seen as drawing inspiration from PaddyHack, NaijaCyberActivists has become an august follower of the hacker on Twitter. Paddyhack has also disagreed with the Federal Government which says it “fought back the attack.’’ The information on the web portal had said, “The Federal Ministry of Information has fought off the attack on Nigeria’s National Portal by a group of gay rights activists. “The Federal Ministry of Information is taking additional measures to stem future attacks by hackers whose criminal activities are on the increase globally in recent times. “The attackers were traced to the same group that recently attacked several countries’ government websites across the world claiming to be fighting for gay rights.”
However, Paddyhack in a message in one of his tweets says, “I’ve allowed http://Nigeria.gov.ng to come back to full service for now. Don’t think that I can’t come and go as I please.” While battling with the website admins, Paddyhack had said, “Having a funny ‘war’ with their admins. They delete the file, I replace it. Hehe!. Do not remove the index.php page again, or I will kill your entire site.”
The hacker also mocked the Federal Government which, according to him, used Joomla, a free and open source content management system, for publishing content on the World Wide for the web portal. The hacker adds, “How does a crappy Joomla website cost N10 million ($70,000)? What sort of country uses Joomla as their web platform anyway? It’s not even a dedicated server. #corruption.’’
But a handful of Nigerians have come down heavily on Paddyhack, with many of them asking the hacker to provide a safe haven for lesbians, gays, homosexuals and transgenders in his home country. A Nigerian, Terkura Unongo, tweeting via @iamtkunongo says, “I sympathise with you (Paddyhack) to some extent because you feel the jailing of homosexuals is wrong, but in Africa homosexuality is wrong. “If you disagree with the anti-gay Law in Nigeria, fine. Offer the homosexuals of Nigeria refuge in your country.” - See more at: http://informationnigeriatoday..com/2013/07/i-wont-stop-attacking-nigerian-websites.html#sthash.WtE5S2U6.dpuf |
Sports › Ronaldo Commits Future To Real Madrid by dokunbam(op): 8:44pm On Jul 07, 2013 |
Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says his future in the game is to stay in Spain with his current club Real Madrid, and aim for the 2014 World Cup with national team Portugal.
The 28-year-old Ronaldo has two years to run on his current contract at Real Madrid, but at the end of the European season, gossip linked him to the AS Monaco club, or even a return to the English Premier League and his old team Manchester United.
But Ronaldo indicated that Real Madrid was where he would stay.
He told reporters outside Hotel de Paris in Monaco that he is enjoying hit time at Spain and he wishes to continue playing in Spain after his first four years.
Ronaldo was reluctant to explain more about his plans, other than rest and recuperation.
The Portuguese said that he was content to be facing another season in La Liga.
“I’m always looking forward to being better and better during the season so this year’s going to be the same. I will try to be focused every time to win the La Liga and the Champions (League) like we always do.”
Ronaldo was also happy to scotch the rumours about a return to Manchester United.
“A club that it’s been in my heart since I was there,” he said. “So everyone knows that I have a passion for that club but my future now it’s at Real Madrid and I want to be there.” - See more at: http://informationnigeriatoday..com/2013/07/ronaldo-commits-future-to-real-madrid.html#sthash.cIgthOyi.dpuf |

Politics › Air Chief Advises Officers On Rules Of Engagement by dokunbam(op): 4:46pm On Jun 15, 2013 |
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, has urged the field commanders and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) involved in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign, to comply with the rules of engagement.
Badeh advised them to maintain discipline during operations, especially in the enforcement of the emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
The Air Chief spoke in Abuja during an interactive session with Air Officers Commanding (AOCs) and Field Commanders of NAF.
Badeh warned that commanding officers would be held accountable for wrongdoings by officers and men under them.
He said: We are having this meeting to put the managers of NAF on the same page because a lot has been happening, especially the security issues.
This is, therefore, organised to make the field commanders conversant with the latest developments in NAF and bring greater synergy within the management and command structures.
They are constantly reminded on the need for maintenance of discipline, particularly in the area of security. As you are aware, NAF is involved and currently participating in the ongoing efforts at restoring normalcy in the Northeast.
The Air Chief said another area of deliberation on the NAF’s current drive for self-sustainence is research and development.
He added that the service had recorded appreciable achievements in research and development, adding that the outcome of most of the researches were still classified. - See more at: http://informationnigeriatoday..com/2013/06/air-chief-advises-officers-on-rules-of.html#sthash.i8fE2Und.dpuf |

Foreign Affairs › Global Unemployment Rate To Hit 208M Come 2015– ILO by dokunbam(op): 8:24pm On Jun 09, 2013 |
A new report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) predicts that the number of unemployed persons globally could rise to 208 million by 2015, a hike from the current 200 million unemployed people across the world.
According to the world of work report, the ILO discloses that high levels of labour market imbalances in developing countries and long-term unemployment in advanced economies will remain acute.
In Nigeria where unemployment is on the increase, the ILO suggests well-designed social protection and a boost of labour income to check this trend.
Over 20 million out of Nigeria’s 160 million population are young and unemployed.
These jobless Nigerians are not optimistic about the ability of government’s job creation plans and policies to turn their fortunes around.
The new report by the international labour organisation ILO entitled, “repairing the economic and social fabric”, forecasts that the rise of global unemployment may hit 208 million by 2015. The ILO recommends investment in key infrastructure projects, along with measures to facilitate well-crafted social protection and minimum wages.
Unemployment rate measures the number of people actively looking for a job as a percentage of the labour force
Figures from the national bureau of statistics place the unemployment rate in Nigeria at 23.90 per cent since 2011, a sharp rise from 21.10 per cent in 2010.
But the federal government disagrees with the popular notion that the growth recorded in the Nigerian economy has not impacted on the lives of Nigerians by way of employment generation.
The federal government initiated the Youwin campaign in 2012. Youth enterprise with innovation in Nigeria is an innovative business plan competition aimed at job creation by encouraging and supporting aspiring entrepreneurial youths in Nigeria to develop and execute business ideas.
But to bridge the unemployment gap, more than one of such initiatives might be needed for it to trickle down to the various Nigeria graduates around the country.
The ILO report calls for policies that would not only boost interim growth but also consolidate the emergence of a large and growing middle-income group –which is essential for ensuring genuinely autonomous economic growth.
