Business To BusinessRe: Tubers Of Yam by Dolaapo(op): 1:24pm On Jul 01, 2010
^^^^, u r quite right about the gala, tasted horrible. i missed gala so much that i said they (family) should buy gala when coming to pick me up at the airport (was disappointedwith the taste).
@tpiah, nope, no difference in taste, as long as it is in a bag that will prevent freezer burns
FamilyRe: When A Woman Is The Bread Winner Of The Home: by Dolaapo(f): 4:57pm On Jun 30, 2010
Leadership of the family should be based on mutual respect, understanding and acceptance of the biblical roles of the man and woman, instead, most people equates the amount earned (or contributed) for leadership in the family.
When leadership is based on money (the husband uses money to control the wife, so when its the wife's turn, she does the same), then there will be wahala.
the roles (to my little understanding):
Women: submit to your husbands
Men (most men conveniently forgets this part): husbands, love your wives as Christ loves the Church.

My point is if both parties (husband and wife), follow the biblical princriples (it also takes extreme patience on both sides), then, it shouldn't be "a big deal" who brings home the bigger income. it also takes lots of prayers.
Business To BusinessRe: Tubers Of Yam by Dolaapo(op): 3:43pm On Jun 30, 2010
@ femmy, lol
i don't need that much (i don't want to re-sell).

the prices at the African stores (the ones I've being too) are ridiculous. they sell by the pound and they don't put the price per pound of most food items. you only find out at the register (even then its the total price).
for real oo, i don miss eating yam, the prices makes yam a luxury item. few days ago, i went to the store to get yam, and i paid $6.14 for 1 small tuber (that approx 934 naira shocked) trying to find decent ones at cheaper prices (i don't mind paying like $100 for a lot instead of $6 for 1)

@ hauwa,
how much was the yam?
Business To BusinessRe: Tubers Of Yam by Dolaapo(op): 3:32pm On Jun 30, 2010
tpiah:
i wonder oh.

at this rate, he might have to quickly fly down to Nigeria and get some.

@op

i'd say buy from the stores unless you're planning to resell the yams. Storing them isnt easy because they tend to rot quickly being soft tubers.
to prevent yam from rotting:
peel the yam
cut into cubes
wash thoroughly
store in a ziplock bag (or similar)
pop it in the freezer.
CultureRe: Common 'madness' In Lagos? by Dolaapo(f): 7:42pm On Jun 29, 2010
A man was hit by a car on the highway at night and the car drove off. The next day (and few days after), the body (dead) was there and cars were "climbing" the body. the body was so badly ,  (will spare everyone the gory details) it was disgusting. almost threw-up while writing this (can't get the image out of my head). angry
PoliticsRe: There Is No Government In Oyo-tinubu by Dolaapo(f): 6:28pm On Jun 29, 2010
^^^^, gbam.

Tinubu is soo right (even if it's a political agenda to clear the way for AD in the next election), Ib is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo poor. won ti mu gbe (them don suck am dry to the bone marrow, no juice left). During my last visit to ib i was so shocked at the state of deterioration, it is so bad, words can't begin to describe it. and the soo called "pastors" are in support; as long as he donates money to the church.
Seriously, mutallab made a grave mistake to his "country", he should have waited for a huge assembly of the power brokers of the country then detonate the bomb amongst them. angry
We need one good president that is willing to "fire" all the corrupt politicians (in official capacity) and kill (am for real) the stubborn ones and put in place, capital punishment when found guilty.
Most people that lambast corrupt politicans will do worse if given the opportunity because there are no consequences. There should be severe punishment for thieves. (politicians).

I don tire for naija.  cry
Business To BusinessTubers Of Yam by Dolaapo(op): 3:06pm On Jun 29, 2010
Where can i buy yam tubers in the MD/DC/VA area.?
I don't want to buy from African stores because they are super expensive. I don't mind if someone buys in bulk and we split the cost. Recently i have a huge cravings for yam, its very serious. grin
BusinessRe: Bank Discriminates Against Disabled Customer by Dolaapo(f): 3:52pm On Jun 28, 2010
Most people are very sensitive when they perceive (real or not) that they are being subjected to discrimination. The bank (providing services to the the public), should have made contingency plans (e.g wooden crutches should be provided for customers and such customers should be asked "politely" to swap for passage into the banking hall) for the disabled if they don't want to override the security system to allow passage of any metallic object.
The story (if true) screams of very poor customer service and "I don't care" attitude.
The bank should be sued heavily for failing to make adequate provisions for all their customers to enjoy a hassle free transaction. Maybe next time, they will know how to better treat their "disabled" (or other categories) customers.  angry
