Combined purchasing power of China's citizens now outstrips that of America according to IMF figures

China has finally overtaken the USA as the world's biggest economy - at least when the figures are adjusted for Purchasing Power Parity.
According to the International Monetary Fund the combined purchasing power of China's citizens now outstrips that of America's. And by the end of the year will China should make up 16.48 per cent of the world's purchasing-power adjusted GDP for a total of $17.632 trillion (£11 trillion).

The US, by contrast, will make up 16.28 per cent, or $17.416 trillion.

Purchasing power parity seeks to address the fact that while wages tend to be lower in “developing” countries than in mature economies like the US, the price of goods and servicing is also typically much lower.

The Economist's Big Mac Index, for example, quotes the price of the McDonalds staple in July at $4.80 in the US, but just $2.73 in China.

PPP, therefore, bases economic output on what a country's citizens can purchase, as opposed to an unadjusted GDP figure using market exchange rate, which is more often quoted.
However, the figure is controversial. It requires the comparison of a huge amount of goods and services, and is therefore a vast statistical undertaking that can only be conducted infrequently with estimates used during intervening periods. The methods used to collect the data have also led to controversy in the past.

When it comes the raw GDP data base on exchange rates, China will eventually also overtake the US if it carries on growing as it has, but that is still likely to take many years.

The Nigeria’s Association of Senior Civil Servants has brought up the alarm on plans by the administration of the National Identity Management Commission to dismiss about 1,000 employees using rationalization as reason.
This is coming despite the over 5,000 junior workers who were said to have been sacked from the commission.

The ASCSN in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja and signed by its Secretary-General, Mr. Alade Bashir Lawal, was responding to claims by NIMC that there are 600 “fake workers” in its payroll, describing it as untrue.

He said the hoax raised by NIMC in respect of the alleged “fake workers” was “a ploy to sack about 1,000 senior employees it had penciled down for rationalization.”

Lawal urged the public not to believe “the lies” being told by the commission that there are fake workers within its workforce.

The association added that for inexplicable reasons, the NIMC management had started a phased retrenchment of many of its staff “which had so far led to the weeding out of 5,000 junior workers from the commission.”

The ASCSN said, “After the sacking of about 5,000 junior workers, the NIMC management decided to also retrench 1,000 senior employees who are our members. It was at that point that we intervened but since the NIMC management shunned all efforts by us to resolve the dispute amicably, we took the matter to the National Industrial Court for adjudication and the case is being handled by an expert in Labour Jurisprudence, Enobong Etteh of Rocheba Chambers. The management of NIMC​ should submit itself to the court processes that are on-going rather than dancing naked in the market place.”

Lawal recalled that the former Department of National Civic Registration under the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs transformed into the present National Identity NIMC in 2007.

“Initially, the management of the NIMC stated that the senior employees it wants so desperately to dispense with are pool officers who should be returned to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation”, he stressed.

According to him, when the NIMC management could not push that position further, they began to campaign that the 1,000 senior employees do not possess requisite skills and competences and/or have irregularities in their records.

The ASCSN said, “How can the staff who have served the nation diligently for 20-33 years be said not to be fit to work in the Commission? The truth of the matter is that some top management staff of the Commission want to throw 1,000 senior employees into the job market in order to replace them with their relations and friends as they did after sacking the junior workers.

“Moreover, the matter is before the NIC for determination and the court has granted an injunction restraining the respondent, its officers, servants, agents, privies or whosoever from commencing disciplinary process, constituting disciplinary panel, suspending the claimants, issuing any further queries or taking further steps/actions against the workers pending the determination of the suit before the Court.

“Despite the court Injunction, the management of the NIMC has continued unabated the process of removing the 1,000 senior employees from its payroll. What manner of a society are we running when government agencies do not obey court orders?

God has shown me many Prophecies like the fall of the Catholic church and the fall of the Pope. I sent these prophecies via mail to SCOAN. I even call the church but nothing tangible has come out of it.

Well, I sent it to SCOAN because I had contact with them and I told some Pastors in Sweden but they did not believe me. I told them about the missing Malaysian airplane but they never listened to me. My Challenge in Sweden is racism.

No, his security officials were very arrogant. They go as far as pushing and treating you like a dog. They did not want me to talk. I was detained on Sunday around 8am till 9:45pm in a room with no water or food. My family did not know where I was. At 9:45pm, they told me to come back the next day that I will see the man of God. The next day, I was at Gate 5 as agreed. They began to push me here and there and when they saw that some people were attracted to the scene, they carried me into the same room and locked me there. God has sent me to America to empower a man of God. I also got a revelation about President Obama and other pastors in Sweden prayed for him for two weeks.

Have you met TB Joshua in spirit?

I met him in the spirit and in the throne of God.

It takes a spiritual person to understand who this man is. For me, I have to know you in the spirit to confirm whether or not you are a man of God. If TB Joshua were a white man, I believe, we will be paying nothing less than $10,000 to go and visit him. But, here in Nigeria, people don’t believe him and I am giving them another five years and they will know better when this man’s mission will be accomplished.

No, I am not. I spoke with one of the man’s wise men called, “Wise man Daniel and made him understand that he was a prophet of T.B Joshua while I am a prophet of the Almighty God. He apologized immediately because he knew I was not kidding. I told him I will put the power of God to test in his presence so as to know that I am not an ordinary man. God will always rescue TB Joshua from any trouble but I am more concerned of the lives of the people that may perish if no preventive measure is taken. I am not in government but a spiritual leader, and whether people like it or not, I will be going back to my country. I have told God that, this would be my last time in Nigeria and I will not come back.

And what if God sends you to people like Adeboye, Kumuyi among others?

I don’t take a contact of someone I don’t know in the spirit. Many people call themselves men of God but in the real sense they are not. I can’t talk or authenticate someone who I have not met in the spirit.

What will happen if you are not able to see him?

This is my seventh visit to SCOAN and everything God has shown has happened. So, if I can’t get him this time, I will not come back.

Pope Francis has called for more people to donate their organs in a bid to stop illegal trafficking, but spoke out against the legalisation of the organ market, Rome’s mayor said Saturday.

“The pope authorised me to say that in his view organ donation through generosity must be encouraged, but the commercial use of organs is immoral,” mayor Ignazio Marino said, after meeting with Francis on Friday.

“We need to explain that donating organs is a gesture of love. Each of us, for example, has two kidneys, and giving one of them to a relative or a person we love is a beautiful gesture. Entering into the spiral of trade and sales is a crime,” the pope said, according to Marino.

The meeting with Marino and a world delegation of transplant experts came as the United States debates whether or not to introduce financial incentives for organ donation, which could include reimbursing costs of travel for donors and lost wages, as well as providing long term health insurance.

Lengthy waiting lists, with thousands dying through a lack of organs, have lead some in the US to suggest the market for human organs should be legalized.

The Buenos Aires pope slammed those who profit from the poor to traffic organs, saying he had seen “many Argentine children with long scars on their backs because their families had sold one of their kidneys,” Marino said.

“Exploiting the poverty of a mother who sells a kidney to feed her children, for a few hundred euros (dollars), with that kidney then trafficked and sold on for hundreds of thousands of euros, that is a crime,” he said.

The Holy See did not publish a transcript of the audience.

The Federal Government is said to be charging N200,000 to train school teachers on the Ebola Virus Disease.

The government has also postponed a workshop on EVD earlier designed to train teachers of Federal Government-owned secondary schools before the September 22, 2014 schools resumption date.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the director in charge of Basic and Secondary Education in the Federal Ministry of Education, was said to have instructed all principals of secondary schools to send N200,000 to the Federal Government’s Ebola Response Team as charges for the training of two teachers from each of the schools.

The dates for the training on Ebola is between September 18 and September 20, 2014, two days to the Federal Government’s approved school resumption date of September 22, 2014, and the venues are the Federal Government College, Benin for schools in the South and the Federal Government College, Minna for schools in the North.

Apart from the training fee of N200,000, the schools were also expected to provide two hand-held thermometers, two protective kits, two medical reflective jackets, two facemasks and kits, one drum of wall liquid soap/soap solution dispenser, 10 litres of izal, and 10 litres of Dettol. Other items expected to be provided by the principals of the unity schools include 10 litres of methylated spirit, 10 litres of hands sanitisers, a drum of bleach solution and 300 packs of disposable hand gloves.

The principals were directed to liaise with the various states Ministries of Health to ensure the purchase of the listed items considered vital to the reopening of the schools in view of the spreading fear over the EVD.

However, there are fears that the principals might not be able to provide the N200,000 training fee demanded by the Federal Ministry of Education as some of them claimed they had not got budgetary releases since July, 2014.
