I have been following Nnamdi Kanu's trial for a long time now. I have managed to get into the court premises on two occasions, but never the court its self. Security is always something else on the days of Kanu's trial. But there are 5 things Justice Omotosho did on the day he passed judgement on Kanu which I find very strange.

1. When Omotosho took over Kanu’s case, he banned the use of any recording device in court during trial. You could only take pictures of Kanu before the judge arrived, or after he had left, but not during the trial it self. He even once ordered that Kanu's sister in-laws phone be confiscated because she forgot and wanted a selfie with Kanu. So it was a big shock that on the day he would passed judgement, not only did Omotosho allow every recording device to be used his court, he allowed all kinds of Tv stations in, and even allowed them to live stream it. Why? It almost looked like a judge who was out to teach Kanu a lesson on a national platform

2. It is customary in all High courts of the world to give the accused person a last chance to address the court, if he so wishes, before judgement is passed. Particularly if the charges carry the death sentence. This is mainly because there may have been new developments that could affect the trial. Surprisingly, when Nnamdi Kanu wanted to make his final address, Omotosho refused. This angered Kanu, led to him making outbursts, which caused Kanu being escorted out of court. Not allowing an accused to make a final address he wishes to make is a good indicator that the Judge is just in a rush to jail the defendant at all cost


3. While reading the judgement, Justice Omotosho started going into things Kanu wasn't even charged for. He started saying that Kanu threatened former British ambassador, Catriona Laing, that he threatened to blow up an American Embassy, lodged in a hotel under an assumed name. He even accused Kanu of killing Ahmed Gulak based on an autopsy report. Autopsy report can only tell you how a person died, it cant tell you who killed them. None of these things were what Kanu was charged for, or in court for, they had no bearing on the case. Why would a Judge do this?


4. Another shocking thing Omotosho did is to convict Kanu based on an evidence he had already thrown out. During Kanu's trial, the DSS tried to tender statements and video clips where they said that Kanu claimed to be leader of IPOB, and was the one that created and funded ESN. This was challenged by Kanu's legal team. Omotosho ruled that any statement or video interview obtained by DSS from Kanu while he was in their custody could not be used unless Kanu's Lawyer or chosen witness, was there at the time because it was against the law. So it was shocking to see the same Omotosho go back to the same evidence he had thrown out, and used it to convict Kanu on two counts

5. Of the seven charges brought against Kanu, 6 of them were about Radio broadcast he made, while one was about importing a Radio Transmitter wrongly labelled as 'household goods'. No where did the charges against Kanu say that he killed anyone, destroyed any property, or that his broadcast led to the killing of anyone or destruction of any property. The charges were all about what he said. However, Justice Omotosho called Kanu a terrorist, not based on anything he did, but what he said. It was shocking to hear a Judge reduce such a serious crime as terrorism to spoken words and Radio broadcast. Terrorism is always an action, it is never spoken words alone

1. The judge wanted the world to see his final ruling and judgment . This is allowed. Banning live streaming when the case was going on could be subjected to different interpretations.

2. Kanu requested for more time to file his written address to the court which the judge rightly saw as another delay tactic to postpone judgement of the case. When Omotosho refused Kanu's plea for more time, kanu flared up and started insulting the judge who ordered him out of court. Note that Justice Omotosho also convicted kanu for contempt of court, which wasn't part of the charges.

3. These were all testimonies and evidence provided by the Prosecution witnesses in the form of DSS agents who took the stand and provided these testimony to the court.

4. Omotosho never threw out any evidence but rather halted the prosecution from tendering it because the defense claimed they were yet to receive and review the evidence . Justice Omotosho ordered the Prosecution to provide a copy of all evidence to the defense and slated another day by which the evidence were tables before the court. As per Gulak, the DSS relied on the confession of ESN members arrested for murdering Gulak and they confessed that they were following orders indirectly from Kanu through their commanders.

5. Kanu's broadcast led to deaths of security officers as he used his illegal station to issue orders to his ESN terrorists which they followed. Incitement is not the right word here. Radio Biafra became the Communication and command centre for Kanu to communicate and give orders directly to his foot soldiers.

The Nupe invasion of Ebiraland in the late nineteenth century was an offshoot of the Fulani Jihad of 1804, spearheaded by Usman Dan Fodio. The spread of the Jihad was a sort of war action. The Sokoto jihadist conquered the Nupe Kingdom, who in turn took it upon themselves to Islamize the Ebira. The Nupe invasion was therefore in the pretext of spreading Islam.
It is common knowledge however, that slave-raiding and the ambition to plunder and loot were their main motivating factors. The Nupe first invaded Ebiraland in about 1865. The Ebira effectively damned the tide of the invaders, then came another massive but equally abortive invasion variously put to have occurred in 1875 or 1885. The Nupe warriors assisted by their Ilorin and Ibadan cohorts attacked Ebiraland through Ihima. The Ebira again emerged triumphant.
The success of the Ebiraland in defending their “ete ohiku” was due to a number of factors. The Ebira were very brave people who would prefer to die than to allow foreigners (ani ikinami) to laud it over them. Their skill with bow and arrows buttressed their bravery while the hilly nature of their environment proved an added advantage over the Nupe who fought on horse-back.
The gods of Ebiraland did not go to sleep when their ‘children’ were being threatened by external invaders. Either by coincidence or supernatural design, the invaders disturbed the hive of a swarm of bees on the hill housing “Ori Ihima” deity. The bees stung and stung, forcing the invaders to beat a hasty retreat. For his saving grace, the “Ori Ihima” was acclaimed as the divine force that preserved the independence of the Ebira until the colonial wind of change swept over Ebiraland in 1903-4.
The war had some consequences on the whole Ebiraland. It disturbed farming, thereby causing famine in the land. Some of the Ebira captives during the war were sold into slavery and slave raiding (ako) became widespread even among indigenes.

Obidigbo disclosed that when placed side by side with the twenty years sentence on the leader of the deadly ISWAP, Hussain Ismaila, the life sentence on Kanu, which derived from the dubious proscription of unarmed IPOB as a terrorist organization, shows that the war on the Igbo is still raging.

The ISWAP guy changed his plea midway into his trial from not guilty to guilty after entering a plea bargain with the FG.

Most even see Israel as a second vacation or as a place to take refuge when wanted for crimes in their other dual citizenship host nation.

There is no real unifying nationalist creed other than being victims of the goyim.
