Don't be afraid op. Ndị Igbo does not conquer and forcefully take land. We buy up lands and settle in it with our language.

Anambra and Imo Indigenes are buying up Abia State. Abians Are buying up parts of Ebonyi State, River State and Akwa/Cross. So, don't be Afraid, we trade land for Money and we settle there with our language and culture

Stop Drinking Kerosene!
Read this and be enlightened. Afonja was a commander which was at first in charge of Illorin but later he couped Allafin and went his own separate way. Making him leader of Illorin

TAO11:
Your statement here in bold is quite inaccurate and misleading.

The reality, instead, is not that Afonja was a coward who flees war. No! Afonja was a brave lion who agreed to descend on the village.

NB: Contrary to what you wrote, it wasn't towns, but rather just one small defensless village.

He was led into the village by certain platoons of his army who know the terrain, and it wasn't until he had arrived the village that it become clear to him that he was simply being sent on a suicide mission by the Alaafin --- he realized he has been set up by Alaafin Aole.

It was an age-long taboo for any army of the Great Oyo Empire to attack Ìwéré-Ilé --- a small defenseless village.

Any Are who leads such offensive was simply going on a suicide mission because he will not live to tell the story. Death lies in wait for such generalissimo.

Requesting any Are to attack Iwere-Ile (as defenseless and small the village is) is as literal as requesting the Are to commit a suicidal sacrilege.

This is the proper historical context that led to the face-off between the Alaafin and the Are when he found out that the Alaafin had literally requested him to take his own life.

Cheers!
Who wrote this history?

Thiefnibu I guess.

Whether palace coup or Presidential coup or Governor coup or Oba Coup, What I know is that Illorin is forever gone to the Caliphate and there is nothing Afonja can do about it.

Fulani never invaded Ilorin. You claimed the two captives were released due to fear of reinforcement by the Fulani's army but after showing you prove that they actually reinforced again but were drown in the river, you singing another kuruke song.

Now, let me prove to you that the Ilorin that fought and got drown in the river were actually Fulanis. Let me see what you are going to come up with again.

Ibadan soldiers chased the Ilorin survivors to Inisa, a town between Ofa and Ikirun. When news reached the people of Ofa that the Ilorins were retreating towards Inisa, they cut the bridge across the Otin River in the rear and left the retreating Fulanis of Ilorin devastated. The Fulanis were pushed into the river by the Ibadans and drowned en masse; thus the war was named Jalumi which literally means “drown in the river“. Hence the 1878 Battle of Ikirun was also called Battle of waterloo.

Next time don't come rushing on public without having holistic knowledge of whatsoever information you want to pass across.
Brother, you are derailing the topic. You are talking of Aftermath wars. You are the person that brought in Ibadan into my thread. I am saying how Yoruba lost illorin to the Caliphate. I never said wars were involved but I said they cunningly infiltrated una Army and overthrew your leader and declared their loyalty to the Caliphate.

Today, there is a Fulani title called Emir in Yoruba land and all Yorubas living in Illorin bow to him.(Full stop)

For the fact we have Emir of Illorin loyal to Sultan respected by Yoruba Muslims, Illorin was defeated by fulani.

Fulani infiltrated the Army and over threw Afonja Just as they would have infiltrated Igbo land in the name of Ruga. Automatically, Illorin is gone to Fulani till date.

They released them to had given them hope of reinforcement for another attack that led to......... drowning in water, abi?

On 1 November 1878 the three besieging forces advanced against Ikirun. The Balogun left the Osi Ilori and his followers with the Ikiruns to fight the Ilorins, Ekitis and Ilas, while he took his soldiers to fight the Ijeshas. The first group was defeated, their leader the Osi Ilori was taken alive, and the rest retreated to Ikirun. When the Balogun heard of the failure, he did not panic, but through clever maneuvers defeated and ruthlessly destroyed the Ijeshas. He then returned, defeated the Ilorins and drove them out of their camp, but not before they had killed the Osi. He then defeated the demoralized Ekitis and Ilas. The victory was complete.

The people of Ofa heard that the Ilorins were in retreat, and cut the bridge across the Otin River in their rear. The Ilorins were pushed into the flooded river by the victorious Ibadans, and thousands of men, women and horses drowned. Jalumi means "drown in the river". The battle is so named because of the drowning of the forces of Ilorin.
Brother, those Illorin, Ekitis and Ijeshas are all Yorubas and Yoruba sub groups fighting against each other . My thread is talking of how Muslim (Fulani ) invaded and took over Illorin, spreading it's tentacles across Yoruba land leading to one Yoruba community rising against another

Ilorin was never defeated or taken by force. All that happened was a place coup. That's all.

Maybe you are ignorant about Yoruba's war laws. You don't or must not kill a refugee of war. That was the constitution.

Ilorin was never a prominent city in Yoruba history. It was a war camp used to defend the Northern enemy, to make weapons and rare horses.

However, you don't need to worry yourself about another man's palaba.
Hahahaha. Please stop. You sounded as a literate the other time, but this last comment you made now is disappointing.

At least, none of your entire generation was brave enough to establish an Empire.

While the Oyo were reforming their new home, the Fulani bent on reducing the remaining part of the Yoruba country into tributary. The Fulani and the Jamas laid a close siege on Osogbo and a battle ensued between the invaders and the Osogbo army. A large contingent of army under Balogun Oderinlo was sent from Ibadan to raise the siege.

Although the Fulani forces with their overwhelming cavalry almost gained victory, the Ibadan forces realign their strategy by attacking the Ilorin camp in the night. A crushing defeat with great casualty was inflicted on the Ilorin army. The Ibadan forces captured many slaves among whom were four Ilorin war-chiefs, Jimba, the head of Emir slaves, one of the sons of Ali, the commander-in-chief of Ilorin, Lateju and Ajikobi. Of the four, the first two were released to return home while the remaining two were put to death, perhaps because they were treacherous Yoruba who allied with the Fulani.

Although victorious, the Oyo refused to consolidate their victory by liberating the ancient capital. Rather, they peacefully retreated into their new homes. Certain reasons could be adduced to this. In the first instance, the ancient Oyo was located in the savannah and was not secured from incessant invasion of the Fulani. Second, the Oyo army retreated perhaps because they dreaded the causality they could suffer in the hands of the Fulani cavalry if they pursued their victory too far. Another reason was probably the protection the Oyo new home which was located in the forest region afforded them. Nevertheless, the battle of Osogbo was decisive in the history of the Yoruba. For one, the Yoruba had established the fact that they could not be easily overrun by the Fulani again
lol nice piece Sha. But the point is that Your leader Afonja connived with fulani to defeat Illorin.

And due to fear of reinforced attack by Fulani, Your people had to release their war chiefs.

illorin is gone and gone forever, before you become leader of illorin (Yoruba state), You must have to get permission from Sultan of Sokoto(Hausa) tongue

"Among the Yoruba generals that responded to Alaafin’s invitation were Kurumi of Ijaye, the Aseyin of Iseyin, the Okere of Saki, Sabigana of Igana and Atiba of Ago Oja. This was supported by Eleduwe forces from Bariba. Alarmed by the serious preparation of the Oyo army, Shitta, the Emir of Ilorin sought the military aid from his overlord, the Sultan of Sokoto. A decisive battle was fought at Otefan. Initially, the Oyo and their Bariba ally had inflicted crushing defeat on the Ilorin army. The victory was pursued too far. The victorious Oyo army chased the Ilorin forces, but was soon repulsed by the Ilorin cavalry. Heavy loss was recorded on both sides."
