Education / Academic Excellence Is Overrated! by Donniefred(m): 2:37pm On Mar 26, 2016
Academic excellence is overrated! Did I just say that? Oh, yes, I said it. Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life.

You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn’t mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer.

The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorize it and reproduce it in an exam.

School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones.

So do I mean people shouldn’t study hard in school? Oh, no, you should! But don’t sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don’t limit yourself to the classroom.

Classrooms don't limit us. We will only be limited by the classrooms if we believe in the standard set for us by our tutors based on our "intelligence quotient".

For instance, in school after a particular test or exam, they'll grade your ability -A,B,C,etc.

If you believe this standard set by the school system then you are limited and you cannot impact humanity positively and i dare say no man can climb beyond the limitations of his own belief.

Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start a business and fail. That’s a better Entrepreneurship 101. Join or start a club. Invoke in school politics, contest for an election and loose, it will teach something Political Science will not teach you.

Attend a seminar. Read books outside the scope of your course. Go on missions and win a soul for eternal rewards…Do something you believe in! Think less of becoming an excellent student but think more of becoming an excellent person. Make the world your classroom!

Foreign Affairs / ICC Finds Ex-congolese Vice President Guilty Of War Crimes by Donniefred(m): 5:53pm On Mar 21, 2016
The former Congolese vice-president, Jean-Pierre Bemba, has been found guilty of war crimes in a trial at the international criminal court in The Hague.

The 53-year-old warlord commanded a militia that committed mass murder, rape and pillage in neighbouring Central African Republic, the court ruled at the end of a trial that focused on the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.

More than 5,000 victims were granted the right to participate in the hearings – the highest number in any of the cases before the ICC.

Prosecutors told the court that Bemba, who led that Congolese Liberation Movement (MLC), “knew that the troops were committing crimes and did not take all necessary and reasonable measures within his power to prevent or repress their commission”.

Bemba was charged with two counts of crimes against humanity, involving murder and rape, as well as three counts of war crimes – murder, rape and pillaging – all connected to attacks in CAR between 2002 and 2003. His troops had entered CAR to prop up the country’s president, Ange-Félix Patassé, who was eventually ousted.

The presiding Brazilian judge, Sylvia Steiner, said that MLC soldiers had opened fire on civilians without regard to age or gender. “The civilian population was the primary rather than the incidental target of the attack,” she said in her judgment.

Bemba was arrested in Belgium in 2008 and shortly afterwards transferred to the ICC’s detention centre in The Hague. His trial started in November 2010 and lasted four years. It heard from 77 witnesses.

Bemba and four others are also on trial in a second case in which they are accused of bribing witnesses in his main trial. He will be sentenced after a separate hearing.

Sports / Four Russian Athletes Have Tested Possitive To The Banned Drug Meldonium by Donniefred(m): 1:50pm On Mar 21, 2016
Meldonium, also known as mildronate, was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency on 1 January.
Four Russian athletes have tested positive for the banned drug meldonium.

At least 16 Russian sportspeople, including tennis player Maria Sharapova, have tested positive for the substance since it was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency on 1 January.

The latest four are yet to be named.
Russia's athletics federation is suspended from international competition for its alleged involvement in widespread doping, with a decision on potential reinstatement due in May.

Dmitry Shlyakhtin, head of the All-Russia Athletic Federation, said the latest positive tests will not "aggravate" that "complex" decision.

Russia's international ban - which includes this summer's Rio Olympic Games - applies only to its athletics federation and followed a Wada report last year that alleged "state-sponsored doping".

Meldonium
Thought to improve stamina and endurance
Designed to treat ischemia and used by diabetes suffers
Banned by Wada since 1 January 2016
Featured on Wada's watch list in 2015
Last week, Russia's four-time breaststroke world champion Yuliya Efimovafailed an out-of-competition test.

World number seven Sharapova, meanwhile, failed a drugs test at the Australian Open.

The 28-year-old said she had been taking meldonium since 2006 for health reasons.
According to Wada, a substance may be "considered" for the prohibited list if it meets two of the following three criteria:
· Enhances performance
· Poses a threat to athlete health
· Violates the spirit of sport
A substance can be added to the prohibited list without first featuring on the watch list.

They dont see you as lazy, they see you as weak, big difference.

Any man who has a very low tolerance for alcohol is largely considered as weak by his peers. You are seen as not been up to pace, not up to the level.

I have a high tolerance for alcohol, but I drink occassionally, sometimes once in 2/3 months, anything done in excess is not healthy.
Exactly!
