There are different types of staph bacterias, so have them identify what type of bacteria it is. Then based on that, you and your doctor can find the correct time of antibiotics to use. Some's an intravenous supply of vancomycin is used. Get a competent doctor. |
Well, think of it. It runs readInput(), the numbers are defined in it, but calcSales() is not called. So you need to call calcSales() with those value after. Try it, when it works. Then instead of assigning variables the way you did. You can use raw_input() example val = raw_input("Enter value >") However, note that what will be stored in val is a string, and we want it to be an integer since it's the number of tickets. so enclose it in the int() function val = int(raw_input("Enter value >") Try that. |
ak47mann:Wow, Wow, and more Wow. By that account. Africans should be thanking the white man for coming to Africa and exposing them to the Western ways and Christianity, if not for the white man by now, Africans will still be savages, running around naked, killing twin babies, engaging in human sacrifices, cannibalism, and living in mud huts. |
You gotta learn how to debug. The error tells you, that "readInput" is not defined. If you paid attention, you will notice that it gave you a line number too. So let's look at the entire error. I put your program in a file called v, and ran "python v" Traceback (most recent call last): File "v", line 35, in ? main() File "v", line 6, in main readInput() # call readInput function NameError: global name 'readInput' is not defined Start from the bottom, so NameError: "readInput" not defined. It means you are trying to use a function or variable that is not defined. The system can't find it. Go up, a notch. Line 6, readInput() function, call to readInput function. Look at your line 6. These are your defintions def main(): def intro(): def calcSales(numClassA, numClassB, numClassC): def outputSales(Sales): So define readInput() to do whatever it is you want it to do, which is to get input for the 3 variables that will be passed to calcSales() |
I have used IRC in the past, and it's not great for programming discussions. The chat will go into all sorts of areas, sure the benefit will be that one can be helped in real time, however, it will require them to post code and IRC is not good for displaying code. All the coding channels on IRC use pastebin, I think nairaland will do, we should just encourage people to use pastebin to post their codes. It's far easier to help someone when they have a code that just needs to be modified than when they don't even know what they are trying to solve for yet want someone else to solve it for them. |
How easy it is to kick a man who is down. Or rather dead. A lot of people like to say that suicide is a cowards way out, but I think it does take a certain form of courage to also decide to kill yourself knowing that it can never be undone. How many of you can kill yourself? Now imagine the kind of mental pain and anguish one has to be in to decide to end his life. He was not in the best capacity of his mind. This was a man that was really hurting, and I wish no such pain upon any living human being. With that said, He was failed by the system. Let me say it once more. He was failed by the system. Nigeria doesn't have a system in place to help those who are depressed, or suicidal. When people are really down, what is our system? The system is "get over it!" That's not a solution. For those of you that read the article, take note of this, "After expressing his displeasure at the attitude of his wife, I tried to pacify him, not to take laws into his hand. He asked me to take him to a doctor for treatment but I told him that we cannot get any treatment from the doctor because we were still indebted to the hospital." The poor guy wanted to go to a doctor for treatment, but he couldn't. Any developed country has a free suicidal hotline that you can call at any time of the day to talk to someone if you are feeling down and suicidal, and if you tell them that you want to go to the hospital, they will immediately arrange for someone to pick you up. This is what systems do, systems help people. Let's stop kicking the dead man and realize that we have a failed system. Maybe you wouldn't kill yourself, but next time, it could be a friend of yours, or your relative. Let's hope there's a system of sorts to help them before it's too late. |
You would rather they wore nothing so your eyes can feast when they are on those okada right? I reckon you would argue about how hygienic it is for them to wear nothing so it can air out right? It's a free world, abeg, my sisters what you want. If you want to wear cycling shorts under your wrap na your own prerogative be that! |
Start programming. Don't just read. Find a tutorial that has lots of examples, type them in as you read. Run it, modify it. Understand it, get to the next example and repeat. |
Yes, your plan is great. Now go do it. Plan on takes meaning when it gets done. |
Ikengawo:Did you say Igbo Kwenu? I'm sorry, but you are on your own on that accord. What point have you made by your attacks and disrespects and insults? I'm an Igbo man, but I refuse to stand with you on that. I know igbo girls that have married yoruba men. I can think of opposites for every statement that you have made. Please come again, and next time come correct. |
kingoflag:Well, I think you have made the case that Oral History cannot be relied on. Oral history is passed from person to person and over time get's distorted. It is best that history be written by those who experienced it. You made my case by saying he was born in VA, then you realized you were wrong later and said SC. This again is the reason I asked you post for facts. You can state your opinion, and everyone can state their opinion, and there will be no resolution. But posting links and fact checking will help. I posted a link that made the case for him being born in africa and also for him not being born there. At the end of it, the conclusion was inconclusive. We will never know for certain. So why worry ourselves about what can never be known for sure? This is why I said, it's not that important to me on where he was born, but rather what's more important is more on his recollections of how the igbos lived. |
No, HIV cannot be cured. Beware of people that say it can be cured, they are just looking for means to separate those who have it from their money due to desperation. Traditional healers or Religious men. It doesn't matter. Let's examine what HIV is. HIV is a virus. A virus is different from a bacterial or fungus, these can be treated. A virus is can only replicate inside a living thing. Now, here is the key thing to understand. Viruses are not living things. They are just assemblies of molecules, proteins, acids, lipids and carbs, and on their own, they do nothing. But when they make contact with cells, they being to multiply. Now viruses infect cells on a cellular DNA level. As they replicate/multiple, they change, this change makes it very hard to target medicines for them, and to kill the virus, you pretty much have to kill the cell they are attached to. So you pretty much have to kill the person. There has not being a single case of virus that has been cured. Forget HIV, think about the common cold. The common cold is caused by a virus and has not being cured. It's not due to lack of money, but just how viruses behave. Vaccines can help prevent viruses from spreading. So yes, it's possible that one day a HIV vaccine could be found and it will prevent or heavily reduce the spread of HIV, but it wouldn't cure those already infected. For those infected, the best solution is to manage it, with antiviral drugs which interfere with how HIV replicates. |
There are 3 possible scenarios. Spend more than you make = Debt Spend all that you make = No savings Spend less than you make = Savings. To stop finding yourself in debt, you must make a budget and stick to it. It's that simple, there's no if's or buts. It's the universal truth help up by simple mathematical truths. So keep a log of all your expenses, every single day. Then find out those expenses that are not important and give them up. RIGHT NOW! Make a budget and stick to it. Make a budget on how much you will spend on cell phone minutes, on food, on gas for your generator, on your entertainment. Then stick to it. Make it very realistic so you can stick to it without breaking it. Now subtract your budget from your income and you have your savings. For now, take that amount and divide it into 2. One part is short term savings (emergency fund), the other is long term savings. Separate your bank accounts. Get an account with a different bank that is strictly for long term savings. Put half of your savings into that and forget about it. Put your other savings in your regular bank savings and slowly add to it, until it can cover 6 months of you not working. This is your emergency fund. In your case if you make N15k a month, then you will need N90k. After you have that, all savings go to your long term savings, which you invest in safe and sound investments. The biggest challenge will be that of self discipline. You are going to have to do it. No one, and let me say it again. No one in the world will do it for you. So realize how important this journey is to you, then do it. Realize you are doing this for your future and you will have to give up somethings. This means while your friends are spending money buying some nice clothes, you might have to wear yours longer or buy a nice clean okirika. This means that while your friends are spending money drinking beer, you might have to give up on drinking at the bar. You will have to find ways to be frugal and spend less. You will have to find ways to still enjoy life tho. So maybe if you drink everyday, you stop and drink only two bottles once a week at the weekend. Maybe instead of going to bar, you invite your friends over, and you play a game of checkers or cards or just watch some TV and talk and socialize at home. You can do it! Go do it! |
Thumps up Wallie! I agree! |
. . . assuming he was born in Igboland, don't you think an indigenous free Igbo will be a more credible account of your beginnings than a captured slave? If he was born outside Igboland, it is even a worse position to take in quoting his narratives as your beginnings. The research and writings of explorers are only just 100yrs old or less. . . . how does that give a true and accurate account of a 1700 existence?
Actually, I've studied the history of the igbo people and how they lived and I see nothing that he said that disagrees with how the igbos lived. With that said. I will say that he is more credible than an indigenous free igbo. I'll give you the reasons, if you want to know how the igbos lived in the 1700's or early 1800s. What are your sources? There is no indigenous free igbo alive from that time. The reality is that we didn't keep written records, and oral records has limitations. Oral records of how we lived are not passed down. Sure, there are a few oral records, but they are limited to a few key traditions. However, as a captured slave, he experienced it and was able to put it in writing. I would go with the record of someone who has experienced it, than someone who heard it from someone else who heard it. As for the writings of the explorer. There are quite a few that are as old as 150yrs old. But it doesn't matter the age, because when you think of it, the interior probably remained unchanged until it got penetrated by the explorers. So how much would igboland have changed in 1700 and 1880? Very little. |
I've always kept away from politics because it can really be nasty. However, it doesn't need to be. We are grown adults, and I would assume most of us are learned men and women. So why the incessant bickering and much ado about nothing? Please, keep your emotions in check. This is what separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls. It is true and will happen quite often that someone will make a statement that you don't agree with. Instead of unleashing an endless stream of texts heaping insults upon them. Why don't you take a minute to THINK. Realize that the person might not have the same perspective on things as you, doesn't not have the same educational level, or the same source of information. Now try to understand why they are coming it at it different, and then try and see why you are coming from where you are coming too. Before you begin to reject their claims, try to recognize if there are levels of truths that you might embrace, then revisit your own thoughts and check to see if they are rooted in deeply rooted facts or just frivolous beliefs that you might have picked up non-chalantly over the years. Then try to find a middle ground. Understand that it's all through reasonable, and let me say it again, REASONABLE meaning with conscious reason that middle grounds can be found. Look at politics as a game of intellectuals and not savages. Let's pretend that we are philosophers discussing the state of things and searching for truth instead of warriors just ready to fight over everything. To curse someone out and attack them is to put them in the defensive position. When someone is in a defensive position, they are not going to be receptive to anything you say. To disrespect another will not win you respect in return either, and it wouldn't matter if you are telling the whole truth. A lot of people have learned the idea of politics by watching the elders, but that's no reason to emulate them. Truth be told, our politicians are a disgrace and the only way for the next generation to get it right will be to approach things totally different. With that said, let's make this a better forum. There are lots of intelligent people with great ideas who shy away from this very forum because they don't want to mix up with the negative vibe. If we can turn it into a position environment, they will feel comfortable to come in. If someone does wrong, let the entire community speak up against them. Don't only speak out against those you disagree. End all attacks, on individuals, on tribes, races, end generalizations. Don't make up unproven facts if you can't link to a source. Let's keep this shit going. One Naija! |
. . . . counter his statement with facts that support the claim of Equanoh being born and captured in Iboland and not in US.
kingoflags didn't make factual statements either. Or if the are facts, he has not proved it by supporting and linking to respected publications that are no blogs. So, no reason to call BlakPikin out and ask him to provide facts. With that said, I'm posting a link making the case that he was born in the US and also making the case that he was born in Africa. http://www.brycchancarey.com/equiano/nativity.htm What is more important tho is not where he was born, but what he has said. The reality is that what he said about the Ibo tribes is true, so it doesn't matter if he was born in Africa or not. His accounts can be collaborated by reading anthropological studies that were done on the Ibos by the first explorers that made it deep into igboland. |
Download XAMP Go to php.net, checkout http://us.php.net/tut.php then read some more. Search for "PHP Tutorials" and visit the top sites that appear. Pre-req: you must understand what directory/folders and files mean. You must know how to edit files with a text editor. You must know how to copy and move them. You should have a basic understanding of HTML. |
2sexy:Well Well, if you actually would like to know, by the 13th day you would have N4,096. By the 14th day you would have N8192 Do the math yourself. day 1 - 1 day 2 - 2 day 3 - 4 day 4 - 8 day 5 - 16 day 6 - 32 day 7 - 64 day 8 - 128 day 9 - 256 day 10 - 512 day 11 - 1024 day 12 - 2048 day 13 - 4096 day 14 - 8192 I intended it as a joke since the question in itself is quite silly. But my calculations are accurate. |
diluminati:It is this attitude of yours that is the very reason while Nigeria is how it is. How can Nigeria succeed if everyone is selfish and self centered. How about you being a catalyst for change? Are you saying that you are so insignificant that you can't make a change and dare not try? I don't think so. You are capable, you are very capable of great things, but you have to believe. I encourage you not to abandon ship, but to help scoop out the water and patch the hole so that the ship will not sink. If everyone jumps into the ocean, the ship will sink and we will all drown later. |
oyewolejos:I wholeheartedly support you and share the same exact sentiments. This is an open forum, and we are grown ups, and I would expect that we can carry own as civilized folks when engaged in political discourse. |
Wow. How ignorant of you to make such a sweeping and tasteless statement about a whole group of people. I've heard people make such statements about Africans too, about how Africans are unintelligent, lazy, can't develop or lead themselves, all corrupt, can't even farm and feed themselves, ravaged by HIV, and so on and so forth. I shake my heads at such ignorant and mean spirited people, to see you engage in the same reckless style of rant is nothing short of disappointing. In every group of people, there are those who are good, and there are those who are bad. The very idea that "African Americans" want to be called blacks is funny in itself, because it's a generalization that has no merit. Seriously, did all Black Americans of African descents get up in union and make such a statement or was it just a minority who had the platform of mass media? The Original Poster did not place a link to an authentic or recognized source for his claim. For all we know he could have made it up, but even if he didn't. It would take a link to and perhaps a claim to the NAACP for such a conclusion to be reached and even at that, no organization can present all people. Listen, phreakabit. I have no idea who you are, but one thing that I'm sure and certain is that you are a man. You might be young, you might be old, but nevertheless a man. So I urge you, from one man to another, for you to carry yourself and conduct yourself as one. To reign in your emotions and never let it get the best of you. Grow up my brother. phreakabit: |
delomos:OP said "I am writing an application in PHP" So I reckon that OP can accomplish it in PHP, rather they want to know " that no line exceeds 50 characters.". With that said. delomos, where is this going? ![]() |
delomos:OP said, "outputs a printable version of driving directions. It contains some long sentences, and I am a neat freak, and would like to make sure that no line exceeds 50 characters." From what OP said, we can reach some facts. 1) So his program outputs driving directions. 2) These directions contains long sentences. 3) There are more than one of these sentences, and they seem to exceed 50 characters. Using the above facts, I can deduce that OP is dealing with data, and by using a template pattern, he can separate his data from his code. Furthermore, this can help down the line if say he wants his program to output driving directions in multiple languages. Today english, perhaps tomorrow yoruba, then french, it's just good programming practice. However, he needs not use a template library. He can just as easily throw them into constant arrays and have all the data in one file. But hey, I encourage good practice from the get go, you don't have to wait to get big to act big, start practicing now. lol. |
WTH kind of name is Macauley? Is she going to change her last name to Idibia? |
Heidegger - there are two aspects to programming, the first is the language, the other is the methodology. Pick any language you like, I would recommend you start with any of these 3. Javascript, Python or PHP. Learning the language simply makes you familiar with that language, it doesn't make you a programmer. What makes you a programming is the other aspect, learning data structures and algorithms. Data structures is how data/information is structured in your program, and algorithms is the logic by which we solve problems. By learning these you can solve problems. If not, you will find that yourself familiar with a language but ill equipped to write functional programs and solve problems on your own. |
You have to be realistic. Don't pay attention to the guy talking about those who charge upwards of N1million. You are not them, at least not yet. You have to start from somewhere. This is your part time gig, so you have to approach it as such. Look at what it costs you in terms of time to be there, to get there, to prepare for it, money, etc. You must at least cover that for starters. Now, examine the people you are speaking for and to, and examine the value they provide. Look at how much money the company has and figure out how much you can ask for without them being too offended. Ask for high enough that they may say no, but will still want to negotiate and meet you a bit down without too much bargaining. Provided they pay enough to cover those expenses we mentioned early, take it. Consider it a free lesson. Practice, build up and try to find new clients to speak to. If you are good, you can get more gigs, the more you get, the more you can up your price. |
You really seem to be lacking data. If you don't have partners in Naija, how are you going to execute? You really need to be on the ground yourself and collecting data and planning. No one can give you a solid advice especially over the internet. With the culture of people in Naija, even if you are there, you can't trust what they say as people their don't sell data, everything they tell you will be with their own vested interested intertwined. With that said, best of luck. Take whatever you think your expense will be right now, and double or triple it. |
There are very few businesses that yield such margin. As someone mentioned, you will have to get into the service sector, but my dear friend. If you really have to ask this question, then I can assure you, that you will not be seeing returns of 50% anytime soon. Your motivating factor is money and that is the quickest way to fail. Want to make money? HELP PEOPLE. You must help people. Only when you figure out to help other's meet their needs can you see money. Why would anyone spend their money on your product or service? One reason. You are providing value and meeting their needs. The more you can help them, the more you are likely to make money. Increasing your margins will then be all about scale, and figuring out how to run lean. If you don't go the service route, and decide to sell products. You must manufacture and wholesale, or you must have exclusive import license for a cheap product that you can more double the cost. It's easy to buy a N10 product and sell it for N30, especially if you are the only one selling it. Likewise easy to spend N10 and make it, then sell for N30. However, it will be very difficult for you to buy a N1,000,000 and double your money on it. Best of luck. |
A fool is easily parted with his money. Tell your friend to do his homework and do something that he is really good at and has a passion for. the quickest way to lose money is to engage in an unfamiliar business simply because other's suggested it. |
Simple, Make $1 on day 1 On the second day, double that $1 to $2, can you do it? On the third day double every dollar you got, and now you got $4 On day four, double every dollar you got again, and you have $8. By the 14th day, you will have more than the money you wish to have. Good luck! |
