The herds men are at it again. |
THE crisis between Fulani herdsmen and Agatu farmers in Benue State assumed another dimension on Sunday, when suspected Fulani herdsmen were said to have launched an attack on the people at Ekwo Okpachenyi council area while at a burial site, killing about 45 people. Governor Gabriel Suswam who spoke to newsmen after an emergency meeting with security chiefs on Monday, confirmed the attack on Agatu people, but explained that he could not give the actual figure of the casualty. According to him, “the Fulani invasion on some parts of the state has continued unabated. Just Sunday evening, there was a fresh attack on people of Agatu. As a result of that, I have sent delegation to the place for an on-the-spot assessment. So I cannot say for now the number of people killed in the incident. Perhaps by tomorrow (today), we will be able to give the accurate things that happened there. “But I can assure you that the security operatives are on top of the situation. As I am talking to you now, soldiers and mobile policemen have been drafted to the place to keep surveillance, so also other areas like Guma and other parts of Makurdi. If you notice you will discover that normalcy has returned to the area,” he said. The governor promised that he would formally present the situation to the president, but assured that there was no cause for alarm. This is just as he denied the rumours doing the round that the marauders were kept in the neighbouring state of Nasarawa. According to eyewitnesses, people from the village were said to be at a burial site of one of the slain police officer in Nasarawa State, who hailed from the village, when the herdsmen launched the attack. The liaison officer to Governor Suswam, Chief German Adobunu, who confirmed the report, expressed shock at the unprovoked attack at Ekwo-Okpanchenyi, adding that the suspected herdsmen struck immediately after the burial. He said the herdsmen destroyed most of the houses at Ekwo-Okpanchenyi, forcing many of the residents to become displaced people in Apa and Otukpo local government areas, as well as part of Kogi State. A member of state House of Assembly, Honourable Sule Audu, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on phone, confirmed the report and put the casualty figure at 40. Similarly, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr John Ngbede, who is an indigene of Agatu, described the attack as “an attempt to eliminate the people of the area,” stating that the attack came without any provocation. In a swift reaction, the secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Rearers Association in Benue State, Garus Gololo, said the herdsmen attacked the Agatu people in order to recover their cows, numbered about 550, which he alleged were hijacked by the Agatu people. Gololo, speaking with newsmen on phone, said people should know that the herdsmen valued their cows more than anything, alluding that the Agatu people were being economical with the truth. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ezeala, when contacted, said the police authorities were yet to confirm the number of casualties, adding that the command had deployed its men in the area. Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan, again, met with security chiefs early on Monday, the second time in less than a week. At the meeting, held at his office, were all the service chiefs, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd); the Director-General, State Security Service (SSS), Mr Ita Ekpeyong and the Inspector General of Police, M. D. Abubakar. Though nothing was disclosed about the meeting, it was expected to have been in connection with the recent killing of policemen by the Ombatse cult in Nasarawa State, as well as the insurgency by the Boko Haram sect in the North. http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/item/11828-45-killed-in-fresh-communal-clash-in-benue-jonathan-security-chiefs-meet-in-abuja

GenBuhari: Abacha performed better than GEJ.They performed more than Gej and we were plunged with dept? Why do we always resort to displaying our jingoistic attitude...the situation this country finds herself today is the handy work of the likes of ibb and Abacha. You guys always makes it seem like Gej Jonathan put Nigeria in this state. Genbuhari, i see you as someone who makes a claim and substantiate it with proof...Please, can you list the achievement of Ibb and Abacha that places them way ahead of Gej developmentally. The moment we do away with our bias attitude the better for us. If Nigeria still exist after 2015, we would know who truly is the real devil. |
MAIDUGURI — Barely a week after the military, police and prison formations in Bama, Borno State were attacked by Boko Haram gunmen, police barracks in the outskirts of the township were attacked by the terror suspects with Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, and petrol bombs in the early hours of yesterday. An anonymous female resident of the barracks said in a telephone chat: “The gunmen came on motorcycles and tricycles at about 3 a.m. and started chanting Allahu Akbar (God is great), before detonating the bombs that triggered the burning of these houses. We had to flee in the night. “Through the window of one of the houses, a gunman shouted that the policemen and their wives and children should leave the town immediately. “Five minutes later, I heard three blasts at the east flank of the barracks, before soldiers rushed to the scene and repelled them, making them to escape towards Mubi road and College of Education, Bama.” She also told Vanguard that none of the residents of the Police barracks was killed or injured, because when they started torching some of the houses, the women and children were forced to run to adjacent buildings for safety before armed military personnel swung into action. Speaking on how they get their food and water supplies, as Bama has been shut by soldiers of 202 Tank Battalion, she said: “We ran out of food and water two days ago. The only food we have for children are the two loaves of bread purchased from a backyard shop at N450 a loaf. While a four-liter jerry can of water cost us N100 as against N15. “Since Tuesday, we could not go out to neither school nor market, because the soldiers and policemen patrolling the streets of Bama, do not allow any movement, unless one is on a special duty or is a security agent.” It was also learnt that motorists and commuters travelling to Gwoza, Michika, Mubi and Maiduguri, were however asked by soldiers to turn back, as Bama had been shut down to both residents and travellers. Spokesman of Borno state Police Command, Gideon Jibrin, also confirmed yesterday’s torching of Bama police barracks, adding that none of the gunmen was arrested, as the armed hoodlums fled towards Mubi road by 4am. genxris: God is so wise that he didn't allow it to be so o. If it were so let me tell you some of what would have happenedyou are soo right. |
mekaboy: GOD is wiser than the wisest. He knows what will become of Nigeria. One would only but marvel at the creative perfection of God. |
I am always tempted to have this kind of imagination because of the very funny things i see happen in this country. |
May be we would have been driven out of Nigerian by now. |
Although some people might think me a jingoist, but these trivial issues as some people might think it are relevant when rationally discussed. Imagine a Nigeria where Sokoto, Kano, Kastina, yobe etc is endowed with the natural resources enjoyed in the south. Imagine a Nigeria where the whole country is dependent on the north for the generation of revenue.Imagine a Nigeria where our economy might slip to the ground if oil production from the north is on the halt. Would it have been possible for southerners to head some of petroleum and parastatals in the northern part of Nigeria? Would it have been possible for southerns to own 80 percent of oil wells in the north as its the case now? Would it have been possible for some southerners to own lands at the finest business locations in the north as its the case in portharcourt? Would the southern part of Nigeria get the kind of resistance it receives because she is fed up of this scam called Nigeria? Would it have been possible for southerners to work in the oil companies in the north? Would it have been possible for the southerners to accuse the northerners of inequality in revenue dispensation? Would it have been possible to have a refinary in the south;whereas the natural resources is gotten from the north?...i just keep imagining what Nigeria would have looked like;may be all the people down south would have become destitute and beggars... |
this Musiwa guy, you must be high on codine mixed with alomo and dry sheet...What are you really driving at? You keep creating baseless thread that has no rational message to pass. Is it that you are clueless on what to do? I must really plead with the moderators of politics section to ensure that some of this baseless topics do not see the light of the day. |
Raymondenyi: Shit man, seeking relevance, he only nows he is fastly narrowing into oblivion! No one has his time; emtpy bulldog barking, he can't do nothing my brothers. It is really a great deal to see people like you who still believe in standing for the right thing;but i must let you know, that in this part of the world your view of life holds no water. The Nigerian politics is one i regard as politics of cronyism, pre-bendalism,jingoism and ethnicity...the earlier you begin to realize the truthful nature of your brothers stupidity the better for you...or better still, travel to the north and embrace your brothers from another father. |

Their are many ways one can enhance his or her speaking skills, one of which is listening to people who are apt and lucid in the suppose language. One thing i need to state clearly is that not all good speakers of English can write English properly and not all who can write English language properly can speak properly; this is a case not just in English but in all languages of the world. It is not a taboo that your friend could not properly make vivid his experience in English; probably the fact that he wasn't born into the language(mother tongue)could be part of the reason he has issues speaking English properly. It is obvious that the problem or challenge your friend faces requires a lot of dedication and practice on his part. However in other to minimize his errors and flipping English speaking skills, he should engage in reading books that centers on enhancing this challenge he faces. And most importantly before he makes any utterance he should have it properly thought out and rationally stipulated within him.If he is a fast speaker, in order to moderate his speaking problem he needs to speak much more slower than he is used to. |

As condemnations trail Tuesday’s attack on police, army and prison formations in Bama town, Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists which left 55 people dead, the Nigerian Army said, yesterday, that the attack on the 202 Battalion Barracks, with rocket propelled grenades and anti-aircraft guns was aimed at overrunning the barracks and creating mayhem. Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, who made the disclosure, however, noted that the attack was successfully repelled. He gave the actual number of casualty recorded during the attack thus: “those killed in action include 21 Boko Haram terrorists, six Police officers, 14 Prison staff, two soldiers and four civilians, including three children and a woman. They were burnt to death by the insurgents”. Attahiru added: “there has been heightened insecurity in the North East recently occasioned by unprovoked attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in Baga, Marte, Bama and Banki being the most recent. The Nigerian Army successfully repelled attacks on these locations and the situation has been normalized. “At about 05 10 hours on May 7, 2013, suspected Boko Haram terrorists dressed in military fatigue (Army uniform) attacked 202 Battalion Barracks in Bama with rocket propelled grenades, general purpose machine guns, bombs, 18 seater buses and six Hilux vehicles fitted with anti-aircraft guns. “The attack was aimed at overrunning the barracks and creating mayhem. It was, however, successfully repelled and the barracks was not in any way breached. The Bama Police Station, Police barracks, local government secretariat, INEC office, local magistrate court and a primary school were burnt by the Boko Haram terrorists. “About 105 inmates were equally set free from Bama prisons. The items recovered include 4 vehicles, 14 weapons, 12 IED’s, assorted ammunition, several RPG tubes and bombs”. The burnt Bama Police Barracks yesterday The burnt Bama Police Barracks yesterday Quick response groups to patrol major highways “As part of deliberate efforts to contain activities of the Boko Haram terrorists from spreading, Quick Response Groups have been established to patrol major highways nationwide. “The QRGs are to provide quick reinforcement of troops to troubled spots. The patrol teams operate along designated routes to check the spate of armed robbery, arms trafficking and kidnapping, as well as any other acts of terrorism. Since its inception, the QRGs have achieved some successes. “They include reduced banditry along major highways while denying Boko Haram terrorists freedom of action. It has assisted in ensuring military presence along our highways; has denied Boko Haram terrorists and other criminals freedom to convey IED’s and its precursor materials. “The QRGs have equally improved the Nigerian Army deterrence capability by its constant patrols of designated routes. Additionally, it has equally supported Operation Mesa troops to deal with immediate threats to their respective areas of responsibilities”. Killings barbric, callous — ACN Meanwhile, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has strongly condemned the attack on Bama town, saying the barbaric attack was another reason for stakeholders to work tirelessly to end the daily carnage in some parts of the north. A human rights organisation, Youth and Conflict Resolution Initiatives, YCRI, described the attacks on police and military formations in Bama, as a direct declaration of war by the sect on the Federal Republic of Nigeria In a statement in Lagos, yesterday by ACN’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said while every human life is sacrosanct, it is particularly saddened by the mindless killing of security personnel in the course of carrying out their duties of ensuring the protection of life and property. It also described as barbaric and callous the killing of defenceless citizens, especially women and children, saying the perpetrators of the senseless killings have lost their sense of decency and humanity. “Nothing in the world can justify the kind of killings we have witnessed in recent times, and it is time those who are behind these orgy of violence stopped and retraced their steps,’’ ACN said, adding that the Bama killings, coming about three weeks after the Baga massacre, portray Nigeria as a country where human life has little or no value. “This unflattering portrayal can only have negative consequences for our country, which needs all the goodwill of its global partners, all the foreign investments it can muster, as well as an environment conducive for urgent growth and development,’’ the party said. It wondered what the insurgents wanted to achieve by attacking women and children in police barracks and targetting health centres, courts and local council secretariat, all areas most likely to be populated by innocent civilians. ACN urged the Federal Government to work closely with other key stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the Boko Haram crisis, saying the time for flip-flopping and foot-dragging was over. Also, while condemning the attacks, the group in a statement signed by its Director of International Relations, Mr Efemena Agadama, called on the Federal Government to consider state of emergency rule in the volatile northern state. “We, again, call on the Federal Government to do more to protect the lives of security operatives by providing them with enhanced safety equipment, combat resources and moral support to combat the insurgency. State of emergency in Borno “The Federal Government should be considering all options for a state of emergency in Borno State to protect lives and property of all citizens and the security operatives. Or is the government waiting for the sect to kill everyone in Borno State before it considers a state of emergency?” YCRI cautioned those playing politics with security situation in the country stressing that what the country is facing now goes beyond 2015 politics. “There is no country in the world that will be discussing politics and economy when a terrorist sect directs the affairs of a section of that country and in Nigeria, Borno seems to be a state under the command of the Boko Haram sect.” The statement, however, called on stakeholders to support the JTF and other security operatives in their efforts to subdue the insurgents. Source:http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/05/bama-attack-boko-haram-plans-to-overrun-barracks-army/ I was also informed that the wife's of the security operatives who were killed during these attacks marched to the governors house-demanding that the governor should give them back their husband. I have never heard the so called northern elite condemning the the evil this boko-haramist are infesting on the security agencies in Nigeria. We also accuse the military of not doing their job, forgetting that the situation Nigeria finds herself is a very difficult and trickish one. God help this Nation from sinking(a pit has been dug for us...those who dug the pit have informed us of their action by showing us the location of the pit; yet, we are still matching to the direction of the pit). |
