PoliticsEleweomo: Police High Command Orders Arrest Ofsenator Folarin by dotman2(op): 1:42am On Jan 01, 2011
Aftermath of Thursday’s murder
of the former Chairman of the
National Union of Road Transport
Workers, Oyo State, Alhaji Lateef
Salako (aka ‘Eleweomo’), during
the state’s PDP local government
congresses, the Police High
Command yesterday in Abuja
ordered the immediate arrest and
detention of Senator Teslim
Folarin, Senate Majority Leader, in
connection with the
assassination.
Vanguard gathered that the
directive to arrest the Senator
followed a three hours meeting
by the Police Management team
chaired by the Inspector General
of Police in which the situation in
Oyo state was reviewed and
drastic measures arrived at to
stem the lawlessness being
perpetrated by certain politicians
in the state.
According to a source, “the
account by Senator Folarin in the
media insinuating he knew
nothing about the killing of
Eleweomo was pregnant with
suspicions especially when
intelligence reports had it that the
killers of the former NURTW
Chairman were members of his
convoy ”.
Another reason, for which the
Senator should be arrested
according to Vanguard
investigations, is the fact that the
Senator was not supposed to go
about a political event like the
congresses with mobile
Policemen armed or with any
armed personnel for that matter.
When reminded that Teslim
Folarin was a serving Senator and
a Principal Officer of the National
Assembly, the source retorted,
“ And so what? Even if he has
immunity, the immunity of any
member of the National Assembly
ends at the chambers of the
National Assembly. And that does
not mean that if any member
commits murder in the chambers,
he would not be arrested”.
On reports that the alleged killers
of Eleweomo were unknown
gunmen or thugs, the source
said, “In this case, there is
nothing like unknown gunmen.
These are known people who
accompanied somebody. They
must be fished out and the Police
must get to the root of this
matter ”.
Vanguard gathered that the IGP is
very miffed over the conduct of
many politicians in the country
who are doing everything to heat
up the system because of selfish
political goals and set the country
ablaze and has consequently
directed States Police
Commissioners to take immediate
actions to stem this tide.
Recall that following the
recurrence of the Jos crises last
weekend, the IGP directed
officers and men of the Police
force to use all the experience
and professionalism at their
disposal to ensure a violence free
elections in 2011.
Ringim gave the directive even as
he noted that in the year 2010,
crime prevention efforts of the
police paid off as over 35, 000
criminals were arrested and
charged to various courts across
the country.
In his New Year message
titled, ‘Brace Up for 2011 General
Elections”, the IG told the officers’:
“The Nigeria Police force is fully
prepared and determined to
ensure the success of the forth
coming 2011 elections ”.
Stressing that “The task of
ensuring a violence free elections
must be given all the seriousness
it deserves ”, he said, “As the year
2011 approaches, you all
(policemen) must remain focused,
exhibit sterling qualities and
professionalism in the conduct of
your duties especially in respect
of the forth coming general
elections”.

mukina2:
I am From Sierra Leone and i'll give our ways of celebrating naming ceremony, engagement, marriage, death and charity (sara) as i remembered them smiley

When a woman gives birth  to a boy after the 7th day its the naming ceremony. its calling 'pull na doe' or komojadeh' if its a girl its 8 days, after prayers have been done, the name of the child will be whispered into the child's ears and  a sheep would be slaughtered, the entrails are given to the mum and the name would be announced  to everyone. if the child has name sakes in the gathering, they all pay for the name to the mum.The baby's hair is cut off by the paternal aunt and kola is chewed and put in the baby's mouth.
Soon after if its a boy ,they circumcise him its called 'behtee', a guy with goat skin bag would circumcise him ( i was scared of them embarassed) lol.

On to engagement, when a guy sees lady he likes and wants to get married to her, he and his family members would come to the girl's family with a calabash  filled with things, alligator pepper, biscuits, bitter kola, ordinary kola nut, needle and thread, pins, a mat, fanna ,plenty other  things (cant remember them now)and money for all the people who helped to bring up the girl, the people she sent on errands and so on. the calabash is given to any young girl to carry . At the wife's house, the door will be firmly shut, they will come sing and then knock three times, if its a stubborn uncle at the door, he would demand for money before opening or he would pretend he didnt hear what they are saying, when he finally opens the door, the guy's family will say that saw a rose in the compound that they want to take away for safe keeping, then different girls would be covered up and brought outside for the groom  to identify his bride, for each girl that comes out he has to drop some money  until his bride to be appears, then they do the prayers, open the calabash and explain the use.meaning/significance of each to her, then they give her the ring and she now goes around with it showing the invited guests, neighbours and everyone else around, then we party grin

Weddings
The bride and groom to be have to choose two respectable married people to be their God parents and God witnesses, then they choose their entire entourage, little bride, little groom. ring bearer, usherettes, ushers, bridesmaids, flower girls, page boys etc ,and they choose wax cotton or anything, each for  every group (boys side/girls side/ relatives/ god parents and god witnesses) choose their own. then they have the bachelors  eve, plenty merry making and people wear their cloths ( known as ashobee). The day of the wedding, the bride's youngest brother/daddy/uncle takes her to the mosque/church.the bride is a bridal gown and the guy in  suit/kaftan and oku wrapper  on his hand ,(for muslims), After  prayers and all that, they now go round to older relatives to drink water, after drinking water, they now head to reception/party.

for some people they add extra cultural activities like hunting, orjeh, gerafeh, and the likes to celebrate afterwards (not everyone does this)

funeral
when a muslim dies, he/she is buried as soon as possible, if you die like in the morning you;ll be buried at 2oclock or 4oclock, they will lay the body at home for relatives and friends and see and then they take the body to the mosque for prayers and then burial. If the person that died was male, his wife/wives would go to  a mourning period for 4 months and 10 days, wherein they only wear white, the first 10 days they are not allowed out of their rooms, some one would be bathing them and so on.In addition, they'll take out a book and ask for those that he/she owned or for those that should pay him or her, so that they pay up and if the deceased owed you, you would give your name plus the amount and that will be given to you from the 'kasankeh' ( the money people give to pay their respects to the deceased

when a christian dies, they wait until all the family members agree on a burial date, then they proceed to wake keeping (some do not do it though), they do laying out ceremony and then the casket is sealed and taken to church. If the person that died was very old, powder or blue would be thrown on the relatives and the casket would be danced with till the cemetery.

After the funeral.
Muslims do 3 days,7 days and 40th day charity,1 year 2 year and so on (if the person that died was old, they would cook plenty food,if the person was mid age, they would prepare snacks only, like akara, beans,  ginger beer  etc but if it was a young person they only recite the Quran and share fura/kola. Water in a glass plus some of the fura/kola is kept on a table , its believed that the deceased comes to eat and drink it  .Christians do libation for the dead on 40th day, they cook and the food is done like a sara, you grab what you can. its called kapu kapu, they also put water but with beans, akara, potato etc which is believed the deceased will come and eat it, most times the grandkids would go and thief it grin in  the morning the older folks would be telling stories of how they saw  and heard the deceased ( yeah right)  grin grin grin

will post more as i remember smiley

PoliticsRigging Manual: How Jonathan Plans To Buy Delegates, Compromise Inec And Rig The Election by dotman2(op): 6:42am On Dec 26, 2010
SaharaReporters has obtained a
copy of a confidential document
prepared by the Goodluck
Jonathan/ Sambo presidential
campaign organization as a
roadmap for rigging next year ’s
presidential election.
“The document has exposed the
underbelly of the ruling party’s
plan to thwart Nigerians’
aspirations to have free and fair
elections, ” said a democratic
activist who was shown excerpts
from the plan.
Mr. Mike Omeri, the director of
Research, Planning and Strategy in
the Goodluck Jonathan/Sambo
Organization, prepared the
document, a veritable rigging
manual.   Of equal interest is that
Mr. Omeri was seconded from the
Office of the Senate President,
David Mark, to help with
Jonathan's campaign.  It illustrates
the dangerous collusion between
the executive and the legislative
arms of the government.
The document details an elaborate
formula for the Jonathan
campaign to undermine members
of the opposition, compromise
pro-democracy NGOs, religious
leaders, electoral officials, the
police as well as other security
agencies.
Mr. Jonathan is embroiled in a
surprisingly tough presidential
primary against former Vice
President Abubakar Atiku. Despite
Mr. Atiku ’s sleazy image and
reputation for corruption, he has
remained competitive against
Jonathan who is widely perceived
as an inept leader who is as
steeped in corruption as his
primary opponent.
The document also sets out a plan
to target and further tarnish Mr.
Atiku ’s “image.” The document
tags Atiku as "Mr. Fox" and lays
out a plan to exploit his image as a
money launderer to the
advantage of the Jonathan
campaign.
The document also lists PDP
operatives in each zone of the
federation, explaining how they
would be deployed to beat Atiku
in the primaries. Part of the
document focuses on how to shut
down Atiku's Intels business in
Nigeria as a means of weakening
his business interests and access
to campaign cash.
In a worrisome development, the
document also lists the names of
top journalists described as
"friendly" to the Jonathan
campaign. It defines how the
campaign hopes to use them to
create a favorable buzz for
Jonathan in the media. Among
those named as friendly
journalists are Ray Ekpu of
Newswatch and Reuben Abati,
chairman of the Guardian editorial
board. The document also lists
other journalists who must be
kept on board with appropriate
patronage from the Jonathan
administration.
The document also identifies the
Nigerian police as a source of
mercenaries for doing the bidding
of the president to rig party
primaries. It details a plan to
transfer police officers of uncertain
loyalty from the posts and to send
more sympathetic officers to states
where support for Jonathan is
questionable.
When SaharaReporters contacted
Mr. Omeri earlier today about the
document, he promised to speak
to us about it some in 30 minutes,
stating that he was about to enter
a church for the Christmas service.
But he never called back nor did
he respond to our text messages.
However, Mr. Omeri has since
issued a press release to the local
media describing the document as
“ badly cloned” by the Atiku
campaign organization.
Our investigations revealed that
Mr. Omeri and his team actually
authored the document, but a
mole in their office turned it over
to the Atiku campaign
organization. Saharareporters has
learned that the Atiku campaign
then showed the document to
several Western diplomats as well
as foreign and local media
organization

PoliticsAcn To Ig: Call Your Men To Order In Kwara by dotman2(op): 3:44pm On Dec 25, 2010
The Action Congress of Nigeria,
ACN, has asked the Inspector-
General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim,
to call his men to order in Kwara
state, where it says the police are
being used by the state
government to instigate violence
and harass innocent ACN
members during and after the Oct.
30th council polls in the state.
In a statement in Abuja, National
Publicity Secretary of the pa rty,
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, also
warned the state government to
desist from its current tactics of
deliberately fomenting trouble in
Offa local government to brighten
its poor electoral chances in the
area, ahead of a possible re-run
council poll there.
The ACN said the current mass
arrest and arraignment of its
members in Offa, in the aftermath
of the Oct. 30th local government
poll, by the PDP using the
machinery of the Kwara
government, and the connivance
of the police, has already created
tension and panic in the area.
“It is common knowledge that
widespread rigging and violence
were perpetrated by PDP thugs,
led by the police, during the local
government election across
Kwara. In the process, lives were
lost. But our people in Offa
resisted them.
“The election was subsequently
cancelled and an inquiry set up,
and our people rightly fingered
PDP thugs and the police as being
behind the ballot-snatching and
mayhem. On Thursday, they (ACN
members) were invited to Ilorin
ostensibly to meet with the
Commissioner of Police. But
instead, they were arrested,
arraigned in court and detained.
The PDP thugs who perpetrated
the violence and attacked our
members were not even invited
for questioning!
