What about YouTube links?

justwise:
External links like govt websites or embassies does not need traffics to survive but forums, blogs, agencies that rely on money coming in from ads do and its wrong to divert traffic from here to such websites.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by dotman2460: 12:07pm On Nov 11, 2014
Decent.

Does this applies to all external links or just ones with business intent? Because, I see external links everywhere on NL.

justwise:
Through email?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by dotman2460: 12:00pm On Nov 11, 2014
Since NL do not allow uploading of materials, how should a poster go about sharing useful resources without giving out the website it is on?

justwise:
Its not about what the group offers, its about diverting traffic to that website.

Congratulations bro, all the best.

Dot1:
Thank GOD for his faithfulness and mercy
I was scheduled for 6:30am, 10th November, 2014 (today) at the Consulate general office in Lagos.
I arrived early enough, around 5:22am. We went through the normal security checks and were ushered in before 7 o'clock. While on queue, I met a man that's been in the US for 15 years, we got talking and I saw he's no ordinary man grin. We exchange cards and he gave me his US number. Please, be genial and amiable always. Don't undermine anybody you meet.
>>>Fast forward>>>
Me: Good morning (with a brisk but prepossessing smile)
V.O: Good morning. You are going for what course?
Me: I am going for a Master degree program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
V.O: Which state are you heading to?
Me: New mexico state
V.O: Why New Mexico state?
Me: When I was applying for my Master program, I considered states that the cost of living is reasonable for me, that I can afford. The weather in the state is also good, similar to what we have here in Nigeria. So adapting will be easy for me.
V.O: You have a first degree here in Nigeria?
Me: Yes sir
V.O: What course
Me: Electrical Engineering
V.O: Same as what you are going for now?
Me: Yes sir
V.O: When did you finish and what have you been doing since then?
Me: I finished in 2010 from Univ....and immediately after my studies I went for my NYSC program where I worked as a secondary sch teacher, just before I finished service, I got employed by my current employer
V.O: Where do you work
Me: Told him
V.O: What do you do?
Me: Told him
V.O: Do you own or rent your house?
Me: I rent. But my Dad has a house in our state
V.O: How much do you earn per month?
Me: 228k
V.O: Are you married?
Me: No sir, but I have a fiancé
V.O: How old are you
Me: Told him
V.O: How do you plan paying your fees?
Me: I was awarded an International scholarship by my school worth $10,759
V.O: Who pays for the remaining?
Me: I will do that sir
V.O: (Looked at me like: this guy is independent mehn)
Me: I have a good income, hence a good savings
V.O: (Took my documents aside and gave me a white paper). Go to this address on Friday.........
Me: Thanks

I stepped out with a wide grin greeting every security personnel I met on the way.

NB: No document was asked, not even my bank statement, payslips, test score sheets nor scholarship letter.

Thanks to everybody that has assisted me one way or the other since I joined this thread in 2012. Special thanks go to my good friends (more than just friends); Bigfrancis and Ashigolo. Also, God bless Imperioux, MsNas, Babsharon, Walspring, Slimmy, Fadinus (my bloodar), Zeezahbee, Yvete et al. The list is endless. GOD bless you all.

Key is; Pray, fast, prepare early, don't be intimidated by denials you see for people before you. Denial is never for you.

Bro, as long as you have valid reasons for going there you should be fine.
According to DoS stats for NIV issued in 2013:

Sudan - 3328
Somalia - 210
North Korea - 56
Iran - 26,091

Worry? What worry?

All the best.

TravelRe: Funny Experience At The Us Embassy Lagos by dotman2460: 6:48am On Nov 08, 2014
According to the Visa Officer here https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening/15#27773269 I think they used to allow people with different confirmation numbers on DS-160 and appointment page go ahead with their interview. But this will no longer be allowed starting from December 1, 2014.

So filling a new DS-160, 20 mins before interview is very likely possible.

noperson:
Why do pple lie without doing proper research? If you have really ever applied for the US visa, you will know that it is your application confirmation page info that you book the interview with. So what's with the lie that you filled the visa form 20mins before your interview or your mum filled hers the morning of the interview, so how did you book for the interview in the first place huh

And this goes to those that allow touts at the embassy entrance to cajole you into refilling your forms at the premises before entering the embassy is waste of money and time. The reason your name is on the check-in list is because all previous applications and interviewees for that date has been processed with your application information and list printed. So you refilling your application prior to entering the embassy does not alter or update the previous information you had submitted

justwise:
...and you will not see them in visa queues or interview boxes.
TravelRe: Funny Experience At The Us Embassy Lagos by dotman2460: 10:57am On Nov 07, 2014
Sure. Most, if not all diplomatic passport holder do not require a visa before they travel. But ALL official passport holders require one.

justwise:
[/b]

Not always, some countries allow visa free entry to diplomatic passport holders.

Even when they do you will never see them queuing for visa or attending visa interview because somebody in the ministry will deal with all that.

SSS do not carry red passport while on official foreign trip ?
Official passport is not red. Only diplomatic is red. And they need visa.

Not all carry red passports. State Security Service officials, medical personnel, State House correspondence (journos) do not carry red passport. And they need visa.

justwise:
Please stop lying, those traveling with GEJs will be holding red passports, they don't need visa,

Those who do will not be queuing for visa at US embassy, its express with note verbale

TravelRe: Funny Experience At The Us Embassy Lagos by dotman2460: 10:04am On Nov 06, 2014
Not sure how this will work.
When you apply for a visa, you do not upload your financial statement, so how will they do the background check on a document they don't have?

Maybe for an immigrant visa where the process is a long-drawn-out process.

Boss13:
Yes they do background checks I can confirm that. They check your financial status (Embassy Enquiries) and confirm it with financial institutions. For people who cook up financial details or especially when the account do not belong to you. Just don't waste your time, you would be denied.
TravelRe: Funny Experience At The Us Embassy Lagos by dotman2460: 9:07am On Nov 06, 2014

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by dotman2460: 8:26am On Nov 06, 2014
Same here. I got in touch with LagosNIV some days ago and what they said was, I didn't necessarily needed an "envelop", I should make sure I have my passport, I20, SEVIS receipt, admission letter with me at the POE.... I presume those are what the "envelop" contains.

Make sure you the visa is well annotated...most especially SEVIS Number and University name.

What school are you attending?

Gboza:
Hello house, student visa approved, transcript loading, issuing post abuja, please I've got a question that demands an urgent attention, my passport was returned with the visa but the attached envelope of immigration documents) was not included, as I've read through the US Cbp website that the seal envelop will be needed at the point of entry
Please o house abeg i need una advice on this issue o

TravelRe: Funny Experience At The Us Embassy Lagos by dotman2460: 9:24am On Nov 05, 2014
I was there a week back around 6:30am. We all waited patiently for the first interview and hoped that if his/her visa was granted the goodluck would rub off on the rest of us....for where?

It was a lady and her interview took place in booth 7. She claimed that she was going to attend a seminar sponsored by a company she distributes for here in Nigeria. After the VO found her not eligible for the visa, he was about handing over her documents when the lady said, "Oga, please hold on to it, my interview can't be over". Then VO repeated that "you are ineligible", while he was saying this, the lady keep on explaining how many clients she has, how much she makes... vo repeated himself, Lady also repeated her self. At that point everyone laughed so hard. The lady left a few seconds later.

My own unusual experience.

Same day as above. While waiting in line outside, I discovered that I was feeling some fresh air around my toes, on both feet. When I looked down, the sole of my shoe was coming off from the front. Horror!!! I've not even entered the Consulate yet. Why me? With each step I took, more of the sole was coming off, got to a point I couldn't lift my feet to walk, I dragged them, I was already in the interviewing area at this point.

I kept on praying for this little incidence not to cause any visa denial. It didn't. After it was approved, I majestically walked out with half of the sole of my shoe gone. When people waiting outside saw me, there laughed, and I thought within myself......"dey laugh me, make you no go face your own interview"

Lagos to New York (then you can connect to final destination)

Non stop: try Arik Airline
1 stop over: Qatar, Turkish, Emirates in that order.
Most if not all, will stop over in their home country before connecting you.

Clear your browser cookie or browse these sites using the incognito feature on Google Chrome.

When you travel, make sure you have IN YOUR HAND LUGGAGE, passport, admission letter, I20, sevis fee receipt, financial statement.

When do you plan to travel?

I'm hoping to do Emirates Airline around Dec 9/10, the connecting flight from Dubai to NYC will be aboard Airbus A380......Jumbo Jet....

Got to the embassy @ 6:30am, got screened and I saw an underG boy without experience. I began to interview him. He failed my questions and I wasn't too happy with him.
A black lady in window 1 denied all the 5 persons that went to her plus the guy I interviewed myself.
It was my turn to go to her and I said loudly that the guy beside me heard that, God, let the spirit of denial melt when I get to her. Who says God doesn't answer prayers? Check the interview below;

Me: Good Morning Ma
VO: You are Ajjjj .....,
ME: Corrected her as she was calling my name like an aboki
VO: Why are you going to the US?
ME: For a masters degree in safety management program
VO: why did you choose 'your school'?
ME: pardon (didn't hear her well)
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 5 schools, 3 in US, 1 in Canada, and 1 in Finland. I mentioned those schools to her
VO: Did any of them reject you?
ME: not really, just that I am yet to get a supervisor for one US school and the Canadian school
VO: Why choose your school?
ME: I choose my school because their curriculum aligns with my intended course of study
VO: How does the curriculum aligns with it?
ME: well, I have been in close relationship with my intended advisor, professor ***
VO: (cuts in) you went to the US to see him?
ME: NO, via mail and phone calls. So, I questioned him about the courses that would be taken when I get down and I was able to appreciate measurement and instrumentation as an aspect of my course
VO: when did you graduate?
ME: in 2010
VO: From where?
ME: Oba awon uni, here in Nigeria
VO: What have you been doing since you graduated?
ME: I have been working with AAA as an EEE Engineer
VO: What do you mean by EEE?
ME: I explained to her with the highest level of gesticulation
VO: You said you are going for Safety Management and your I-20 seems to have an issue because I can see here that it is an MBA that you will be majoring in?
ME: I saw that myself when I got the I-20 and I mailed the office of international service complaining to them. I have a copies of the correspondence with me here
VO: Let me see it
ME: handed over to her and she glanced like this guy too sharp for me to denie ooo
VO: how do you plan to fund your education?
ME: My elder sister will support me
VO: Why your elder sister?
ME: She has been supporting me since the demise of our father in the year 2002
VO: what does she do?
ME: she works with Total naija as a network admin
VO: what will you do when you come back to naija?
ME: I will work as a consultant to major industries especially the oil and gas firms. I can also work as a safety engineer or Manager
VO: Are you married?
ME: No
VO: Do you have friends in the US?
ME: No! The ones I have are done with their academics and are back here in Naija
VO: We will issue you a Visa
ME: I no hear anything again as I don break jinx for the rest.

Many Thanks to God. No document was asked except for the one I let her check. I took the GRE, TOEFL, and had a bag full of documents.

I also signalled at the guy beside me to confirm to him that I got the visa approved.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by dotman2460: 9:50am On Oct 29, 2014
Good news and not soo good news. One granted while the other was "temporarily" denied......I believe the visa is his and he will claim it the next time.

I and one other NL member went for our visa interview this morning. Mine was granted.

Very short interview.

VO: Good morning sir.
ME: Good morning.

VO: What is your purpose of travel?
ME: Masters Degree in Computer Science.

Brief pause....

VO: How did you found out about the school?
ME: A recommendation from an alumni.

VO: Who will pay for your study?
ME: My dad.

VO: What does he do?
ME: Works with so and so.

The moment she set aside my passport and returned my other document, I knew God has done it.
She then utters those magical words, "Pick up your visa at this address on Monday'.

I turned around, smiled from ear to ear, punched the air and kept on wishing everyone on my way out goodluck, even the ones that were not there for any interview......security guards.

Nothing but God.
