Agriculture / Implication Of Current Nationwide Strike On Agriculture by dotmoth4life: 11:41pm On Feb 19, 2018
I've witness downpour twice this year, as a farmer, I should be happy to resume farming activities, but the reverse is the case.
Why?
Due to the nationwide strike embark on by these 3 unions (ASURI, NASU, and SSAUTHRIAI). What's the implication of the strike on Agriculture and the Agricultural sector? The strike has affected the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN); which means that I have not been able to raise seedlings for this year’s planting season while other crops and livestock institutes are similarly affected. Activities have been paralyzed for over 4 months now at various research institutes in Nigeria. The period for raising seedlings for Cocoa, Oil palm and rubber is already gone due to this strike. There is a fear of the possibilities of an economic slump, increased hunger, and poverty in the country.

I have decided to reveal the cost of establishing an Oil Palm Nursery. in some organizations or Farms, marketing is really a major problem; however, the reverse is the case in our Organization MyAgricWorld, because meeting our customers’ demand remains a major issue. Having recorded and experienced a great success in the sales of Oil Palm and Cocoa seedlings last year, we have decided to expand the size of our Nursery in order to increase our scale of production.
Why do you need to set up your own nursery?

I will like to reveal the real and updated cost of establishing an Oil Palm Nursery and also the cost of an oil palm seedling. So, at the end, you can now decide which option is the best.
The picture reveal the real and updated cost.

I will also be providing you the second option. This option is to buy the seedlings directly from a farm. Using our farm as an example, we usually sell a 4 to 5months old oil palm seedlings for the rate of 350naira which will cost N1,050,000 for three thousand five hundred oil palm seedlings.

Agriculture / How To Germinate Your Own Oil Palm Seeds by dotmoth4life: 11:36am On Sep 09, 2017
In order to raise your own oil palm seeds yourself, you need to get the high yield seed from the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) or any other places you can find it and make it germinate.
Note you can’t just take the seed and plant directly on the field like your maize seed. The oil palm seed required special care and treatment because if you do not take care of the seeds, it will take several years before they germinate. In order to ensure that your oil palm seed germinate fast, the seeds should be kept in a very hot room. Doing this we make the seeds to germinate in about 90 to 100 days (smiling).
Do you have the patient to wait for over 3months? If yes, then continue reading.

Agriculture / Re: Myagricworld....mainly Crop Production by dotmoth4life: 11:29am On Sep 09, 2017
Why are Nigerian farmer shying away from Palm tree plantation (palm oil business)?

The main reason most Nigerians farmers are not paying attention to oil palm tree plantation is because they think palm tree take so many years to mature to the point of production, therefore they are not ready to wait. That is total ignorance. There are varieties of palm tree that starts producing just two years after planting.
This means, if you start your own palm oil tree plantation this year, you start harvesting your palm produce in two years’ time. If you don’t have basic agronomy background or farming skill, we can also help you set up your farm at your desire location and give your all necessary advice and training on how you can achieve huge return.
Are you planning to venture in agriculture (Palm Tree plantation in particular), then what are you waiting for?
This is the right and best time to start planning. We can help you establish or train you on how you can establish your own palm oil tree plantation and let’s see how it goes in two years time.

Agriculture / Why Soil Test? by dotmoth4life: 5:08pm On Aug 25, 2017
At MyAgricWorld, we are about to start a Cocoa plantation project (Fully Irrigated) on a client’s farm. Due to the size of the land, I suggested a soil physiochemical test to the client, even before he went ahead to make necessary payment on the land. After gotten the soil test result, he called me and said “"What do I do with my soil test results?"
I was just laughing with the question. So, in order to address this issue, or answer the question, I will also like to enlighten potential farmers or investors on the importance of soil test in your agriculture.
First, soil sampling and analysis gives you chemical and physical information about your soil, which can be used to optimize plant growth or assist in solving soil-related problems.
When an initial soil test is done, the results will guide you in the decision whether or not to fertilize, resulting in environmental and economic benefits. It will also help you in fertilizer recommendations for some plant species.

As we all know that the demand for cocoa seed is extremely high at the international market and the international price is quite encouraging to farmers. The crop is a perennial crop which is planted once and the harvest keeps coming, year in year out depending on the management practices. The cocoa beans is one of the hottest agricultural product in the market anywhere in the world.
However, to establish a cocoa plantation, various factors need to be put into consideration. This includes; climate of the locality, average rainfall per millimeter, temperature, humidity, and type of soil and planting material.
For optimum production or productivity, rainfall could actually be supplemented with modern irrigation in cases of erratic rainfall. For optimum performance, 1250 to 3000mm per annum of rainfall is required. The dried up period must not be further than three months. Cocoa trees are susceptible than other tropical crops to moisture stress.
Based on the required temperature, 30 to 32oC is considered favorable for crop performance. Humidity has to be taken in consideration too. High humidity can lead to the spread of fungal diseases which may affect the growth of the cocoa crop and the storage and drying of it could be at risked also.
As a soil scientist, a variety of soil types could be favorable to the cocoa plant. The soil ought to be such as allowing uncomplicated access of roots able of retaining dampness during warm season of the year. Clay loams and sandy loams are also appropriate. Although, it is strongly recommend to carry out a soil physiochemical analysis at the beginning of the project; especially when the size of land is more than five hectares. At planting, the potting mixture and type of sowing must consist of farm yard manure, sand and soil in identical magnitude to propagate the cocoa seedlings.
Considering the mode of propagation, cocoa can be propagated sexually (seed) and asexually (vegetative manner). Cocoa seed can be raise into seedlings; seeds of grown-up pods are taken from lofty yielding mother plants which should generate one hundred pods per year.
At harvest, a cocoa seed can naturally lose its viability 7days after harvest if not properly store or process. Therefore, proper storage is the key to avoid this from happening.
NOTE: The best time to sow seeds in the nursery is during the month of December to January and it is strongly advisable to site your nursery very close to your farm.
