Why Nigerian male athletes don’t excel – Ajunwa



Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medallist, Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, opined that indiscipline and wrong lifestyles are the reasons Nigerian male athletes have failed to shine on the tracks when it matters most.

Nigeria has remained relevant in athletics courtesy of laurels won by the womenfolk in recent time. Africa’s fastest woman, Blessing Okagbare, tops a list of women that have won medals for the country at the international stage.

Okagbare recently teamed up with Regina George, Dominique Duncan and Christy Udoh to win the women’s 4x200m at the 2015 World Relays in the Bahamas. But the men have yet to post similar results since the exit of the likes of late Sunday Bada, Uchenna Emedolu, Deji Aliu and Enefiok Udo-Obong.

The President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Dr. Solomon Ogba, once said the male athletes could not attract sponsorship because they failed to improve themselves, and Ajunwa-Opara shared in his opinion.

“It’s not that the men cannot excel like the ladies do on the track, the problem is that there are distractions and also the lack of sponsorship for them,” Ajunwa-Opara said on Thursday.

“Oftentimes the women are favoured by would-be sponsors, they usually attract pity from people; but the men are most times on their own.

“In my time, it was Segun Odegbami that took me out of this country [to the USA] to improve my skills. When I got there, I dedicated myself to training, and the rest is history. But you hardly get the menfolk being given such an opportunity.

“Another problem some of the men have is indiscipline. This is a major hindrance in the men’s career.

“The men need to be more focussed; they have to know what they are doing all the time. They must have the self-conviction that they know where they’re headed in their career.

“How can you say you want to be an international athlete but you can’t abstain from womanising or alcohol consumption. Such a lifestyle will reduce any man’s strength. It takes self-discipline to be a champion.

“When I started athletics, I had no boyfriend or anyone that could pose as distraction. I concentrated on my career because I knew what I wanted.”

Scandal: Emily Kachote is said to have broken rules that state beauty queens must never pose nude

The current Miss Zimbabwe has been stripped of her title on the grounds of 'immoral behaviour' after naked photographs of her appeared on the instant messaging service WhatsApp.

Emily Kachote, 25, broke rules that insist beauty queens must never pose nude, the pageant board said in a statement amid claims the model's former lover deliberately leaked the images.

In a bizarre twist, Miss Kachote's predecessor Thabiso Phiri, 22, was also stripped of the Miss Zimbabwe title - which automatically enters the winner into the Miss World competition - after nude photographs she had sent to her boyfriend were leaked and went viral.

In a statement, the Miss Zimbabwe pageant board said Miss Kachote 'violated the rules and regulations governing the pageant', referring to nude images of that appeared on Whatsapp, according to a local tabloid newspaper.

'Winners of the Miss World Zimbabwe beauty pageant whether a title holder or runner-up must not have posed nude professionally or socially in all forms of media,' the organisers said.

'Being in a relationship, sexual advances to anyone and any behaviour categorised as immoral by the Miss Zimbabwe Trust is grounds for instant disqualification and dethronement,' they added.

When rumours of the scandal broke last month, Miss Kachote was quoted by New Zimbabwe as saying: 'I was hoping the pictures would have been deleted by now since it happened a long time ago and I last spoke to the guy a year ago and I no longer have anything to do with [him]...'

'I have always suspected that those pictures would circulate, but it happened a long time ago, and I believe my past does not determine where I am going,' she reportedly added.

According to News 24, the disqualification will be welcomed in some quarters by Miss Zimbabwe watchers who branded the model 'too ugly' to hold the title.


Miss Kachote, a psychology graduate turned financial advisor, was crowned Miss World Zimbabwe in April, beating 15 other models.

The organisers of the contest said Kachote's pictures were leaked shortly after she confessed to having once posed nude.

The board said Kachote will be replaced by runner-up Grace Mutambu, who will represent Zimbabwe at the Miss World pageant in Sanya, China in December.

Last year's Miss Zimbabwe Miss Phiri was also caught up in a nude photo scandal and was forced to resign.

And in 2003 another Miss Zimbabwe, Linda Van Beek, was also forced to step down ahead of scehdule when she fell pregnant.

Miss Zimbabwe rules stipulate that entrants must not be expecting at the time of their election, nor can they fall pregnant during their 'reign'.

Stolen Assets Recovery: Buhari Demands Fuel Imports From Oil Marketers Implicated In Fraud

Facing a huge cash crisis, President Muhammadu Buhari has resorted to unusual strategies for recovering some of the funds stolen from Nigeria’s treasury through a series of shady deals between former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke and a group of indigenous oil companies and oil marketers she and former President Goodluck Jonathan favored.

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, brought the part of the illicit deals to public attention when he alerted Nigerians that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had failed to deposit $20 billion of oil revenues with the CBN. In addition, Mrs. Alison-Madueke had inked some deals, with the blessing of former President Jonathan, involving oil swaps and the transfer of certain oil wells reclaimed from multinational oil companies to shady Nigerian operators, including Jide Omokore and Kola Aluko.

An investigation by SaharaReporters discovered that President Buhari’s administration has begun the difficult and complex process of retrieving some of the missing petro-billions. One approach so far adopted by the new president is aimed at addressing the fuel scarcity that has harmed the Nigerian economy and threatens to paralyze the country’s economic activities, according to highly placed officials in the government.

But one exception involves Mr. Omokore whose Atlantic Atlantic Energy Oil Company was involved in the controversial concession of oil wells. A source at the Presidency told SaharaReporters that Mr. Omokore had volunteered to return $500 million to the Federal Government. However, the source added that President Buhari nixed the deal based on information that Mr. Omokore, believed to be a front for Mr. Jonathan and Mrs. Alison-Madueke, is in possession of $4.5 billion of funds that should have been deposited in the federation account.

The sources told SaharaReporters that the government’s immediate strategy involved targeting oil marketers and companies “caught red-handed in stealing huge sums of oil subsidies and oil revenues.” The government has pressured these companies and their owners to agree to repay the stolen monies traced to them by immediately importing more fuel into Nigeria.

The sources said the Buhari government has recorded significant early success in getting some oil marketers and their companies to accept the fuel-for-funds deals. “A number of them have agreed to import massive levels of fuel in lieu of the funds they received in shady transactions during the Jonathan administration,” one Presidency source claimed.

Another source revealed that the administration had started out by putting pressure on former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke. She was reportedly quick to deny responsibility for the illicit deals with the oil marketers. Instead, she squealed on her subordinates in the NNPC, accusing them of structuring and doctoring the deals that robbed Nigeria of billions of dollars.

“The [Buhari] government got her to write a formal account of her allegations against some NNPC officials and oil companies. What she put down gave a picture of how some of the funds went missing. The document was then forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the form of a petition,” one source said.

Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s “petition” reportedly named all the persons involved in the massive fraud in the oil sector, including some past and serving officials of the NNPC. Our sources said those she implicated in the NNPC include the current General Managing Director (GMD), Haruna Momoh, a former GMD, Austen Oniwon, Reginald Stanley and Sam Okeke, a former Group General Manager, New Business Division of the NNPC.

An EFCC source told SaharaReporters that a crack team of investigators was currently working on the former minister’s petition. He said the document had revealed new facts previously unknown by EFCC agents and Nigeria’s intelligence officials at Department of State Services (DSS). Among the scams disclosed by the former minister is information that at least four companies involved in an oil swap deal had not accounted for huge sums that should have been remitted to the account of the Nigerian government.

Among the companies implicated in her “petition,” Transfigura was reportedly unable to account for $80 million, Televeras $111million, while Aiteo apparently gulped down $150 million. Other oil firms named in the defrauding of the Nigerian people are Ontario, which failed to account for $135 million, and Sahara Energy, accused of skipping the payment of $120 million to the government.

Our EFCC source revealed that two companies, Transfigura and Sahara Energy, had made some gesture towards paying back some missing funds. However, a source at the Presidency told our correspondent that “so far the reconciliation has involved just paperwork and has not scratched the heart of the scam.” Investigators described Aiteo and Ontario as particularly problematic because they have completely cooked their records. An investigator also disclosed that the two companies are most directly linked to Mrs. Alison-Madueke and former President Jonathan. Both Ms. Alison-Madueke and Mr. Jonathan are currently in the UK, with the former Petroleum Minister reportedly undergoing a weeklong cancer therapy.

Some of the companies have agreed in principle to return the funds by bartering imported fuel for the funds they acquired illegally.

Our sources disclosed that other downstream companies caught in the storm of missing and stolen funds include Forte Oil, owned by businessman Femi Otedola, Folawiyo Energy, and, Oando, owned by Wale Tinubu and Honeywell Oil Company owned by Oba Otudeko.

Officials of the Buhari administration declined to give official confirmation of the stolen assets recovery process relating to other officials of the Jonathan Presidency.

Akon launches 'Solar Academy' that will supply electricity to 600 million Africans


SENGALESE American pop singer Akon, whose Akon Lighting Africa initiative aims to bring electricity to some of the 600 million Africans who currently lack it, announced the launch of a new “Solar Academy” for the people of Africa. The institution, scheduled to open this summer in Mali, will train African engineers and entrepreneurs with the skills needed to develop solar-powered electricity systems and micro grids. Training equipment and programs will be supplied by European angel investors. Harnessing solar energy is an ideal way to enable those Africans without electricity to get it since Africa has 320 days of sunshine a year. I am immensely grateful to God Who Has preserved us to witness this day and this occasion. Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy. Nigerians have shown their commitment to democracy and are determined to entrench its culture. Our journey has not been easy but thanks to the determination of our people and strong support from friends abroad we have today a truly democratically elected government in place.

Now, I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a united people capable of doing what is right for our nation. Together we co-operated to surprise the world that had come to expect only the worst from Nigeria. I hope this act of graciously accepting defeat by the outgoing President will become the standard of political conduct in the country.

I would like to thank the millions of our supporters who believed in us even when the cause seemed hopeless. I salute their resolve in waiting long hours in rain and hot sunshine to register and cast their votes and stay all night if necessary to protect and ensure their votes count and were counted. I thank those who tirelessly carried the campaign on the social media. At the same time, I thank our other countrymen and women who did not vote for us but contributed to make our democratic culture truly competitive, strong and definitive.

I thank all of you.

Having just a few minutes ago sworn on the Holy Book, I intend to keep my oath and serve as President to all Nigerians.

I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody.

A few people have privately voiced fears that on coming back to office I shall go after them. These fears are groundless. There will be no paying off old scores. The past is prologue.

Our neighbours in the Sub-region and our African brethenen should rest assured that Nigeria under our administration will be ready to play any leadership role that Africa expects of it. Here I would like to thank the governments and people of Cameroon, Chad and Niger for committing their armed forces to fight Boko Haram in Nigeria.

I also wish to assure the wider international community of our readiness to cooperate and help to combat threats of cross-border terrorism, sea piracy, refugees and boat people, financial crime, cyber crime, climate change, the spread of communicable diseases and other challenges of the 21st century.

At home we face enormous challenges. Insecurity, pervasive corruption, the hitherto unending and seemingly impossible fuel and power shortages are the immediate concerns. We are going to tackle them head on. Nigerians will not regret that they have entrusted national responsibility to us. We must not succumb to hopelessness and defeatism. We can fix our problems.

In recent times Nigerian leaders appear to have misread our mission. Our founding fathers, Mr Herbert Macauley, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Malam Aminu Kano, Chief J.S. Tarka, Mr Eyo Ita, Chief Denis Osadeby, Chief Ladoke Akintola and their colleagues worked to establish certain standards of governance. They might have differed in their methods or tactics or details, but they were united in establishing a viable and progressive country. Some of their successors behaved like spoilt children breaking everything and bringing disorder to the house.

Furthermore, we as Nigerians must remind ourselves that we are heirs to great civilizations: Shehu Othman Dan fodio’s caliphate, the Kanem Borno Empire, the Oyo Empire, the Benin Empire and King Jaja’s formidable domain. The blood of those great ancestors flow in our veins. What is now required is to build on these legacies, to modernize and uplift Nigeria.

Daunting as the task may be it is by no means insurmountable. There is now a national consensus that our chosen route to national development is democracy. To achieve our objectives we must consciously work the democratic system. The Federal Executive under my watch will not seek to encroach on the duties and functions of the Legislative and Judicial arms of government. The law enforcing authorities will be charged to operate within the Constitution. We shall rebuild and reform the public service to become more effective and more serviceable. We shall charge them to apply themselves with integrity to stabilize the system.

For their part the legislative arm must keep to their brief of making laws, carrying out over-sight functions and doing so expeditiously. The judicial system needs reform to cleanse itself from its immediate past. The country now expects the judiciary to act with dispatch on all cases especially on corruption, serious financial crimes or abuse of office. It is only when the three arms act constitutionally that government will be enabled to serve the country optimally and avoid the confusion all too often bedeviling governance today.

Elsewhere relations between Abuja and the States have to be clarified if we are to serve the country better. Constitutionally there are limits to powers of each of the three tiers of government but that should not mean the Federal Government should fold its arms and close its eyes to what is going on in the states and local governments. Not least the operations of the Local Government Joint Account. While the Federal Government can not interfere in the details of its operations it will ensure that the gross corruption at the local level is checked. As far as the constitution allows me I will try to ensure that there is responsible and accountable governance at all levels of government in the country. For I will not have kept my own trust with the Nigerian people if I allow others abuse theirs under my watch.

However, no matter how well organized the governments of the federation are they can not succeed without the support, understanding and cooperation of labour unions, organized private sector, the press and civil society organizations. I appeal to employers and workers alike to unite in raising productivity so that everybody will have the opportunity to share in increased prosperity. The Nigerian press is the most vibrant in Africa. My appeal to the media today – and this includes the social media – is to exercise its considerable powers with responsibility and patriotism.

My appeal for unity is predicated on the seriousness of the legacy we are getting into. With depleted foreign reserves, falling oil prices, leakages and debts the Nigerian economy is in deep trouble and will require careful management to bring it round and to tackle the immediate challenges confronting us, namely; Boko Haram, the Niger Delta situation, the power shortages and unemployment especially among young people. For the longer term we have to improve the standards of our education. We have to look at the whole field of medicare. We have to upgrade our dilapidated physical infrastructure.

The most immediate is Boko Haram’s insurgency. Progress has been made in recent weeks by our security forces but victory can not be achieved by basing the Command and Control Centre in Abuja. The command centre will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued. But we can not claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls and all other innocent persons held hostage by insurgents.

This government will do all it can to rescue them alive. Boko Haram is a typical example of small fires causing large fires. An eccentric and unorthodox preacher with a tiny following was given posthumous fame and following by his extra judicial murder at the hands of the police. Since then through official bungling, negligence, complacency or collusion Boko Haram became a terrifying force taking tens of thousands of lives and capturing several towns and villages covering swathes of Nigerian sovereign territory.

Boko Haram is a mindless, godless group who are as far away from Islam as one can think of. At the end of the hostilities when the group is subdued the Government intends to commission a sociological study to determine its origins, remote and immediate causes of the movement, its sponsors, the international connexions to ensure that measures are taken to prevent a reccurrence of this evil. For now the Armed Forces will be fully charged with prosecuting the fight against Boko haram. We shall overhaul the rules of engagement to avoid human rights violations in operations. We shall improve operational and legal mechanisms so that disciplinary steps are taken against proven human right violations by the Armed Forces.

Boko Haram is not only the security issue bedeviling our country. The spate of kidnappings, armed robberies, herdsmen/farmers clashes, cattle rustlings all help to add to the general air of insecurity in our land. We are going to erect and maintain an efficient, disciplined people – friendly and well – compensated security forces within an over – all security architecture.

The amnesty programme in the Niger Delta is due to end in December, but the Government intends to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place. I call on the leadership and people in these areas to cooperate with the State and Federal Government in the rehabilitation programmes which will be streamlined and made more effective. As ever, I am ready to listen to grievances of my fellow Nigerians. I extend my hand of fellowship to them so that we can bring peace and build prosperity for our people.

No single cause can be identified to explain Nigerian’s poor economic performance over the years than the power situation. It is a national shame that an economy of 180 million generates only 4,000MW, and distributes even less. Continuous tinkering with the structures of power supply and distribution and close on $20b expanded since 1999 have only brought darkness, frustration, misery, and resignation among Nigerians. We will not allow this to go on. Careful studies are under way during this transition to identify the quickest, safest and most cost-effective way to bring light and relief to Nigerians.

Unemployment, notably youth un-employment features strongly in our Party’s Manifesto. We intend to attack the problem frontally through revival of agriculture, solid minerals mining as well as credits to small and medium size businesses to kick – start these enterprises. We shall quickly examine the best way to revive major industries and accelerate the revival and development of our railways, roads and general infrastructure.

Your Excellencies, My fellow Nigerians I can not recall when Nigeria enjoyed so much goodwill abroad as now. The messages I received from East and West, from powerful and small countries are indicative of international expectations on us. At home the newly elected government is basking in a reservoir of goodwill and high expectations. Nigeria therefore has a window of opportunity to fulfill our long – standing potential of pulling ourselves together and realizing our mission as a great nation.

Our situation somehow reminds one of a passage in Shakespeare’s Julius Ceasar
There is a tide in the affairs of men which,
taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life,

Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, Segun Aganga And PDP Chieftain Tony Anenih Flee Nigeria


A Nigerian minister, Segun Aganga, PDP chieftain, Tony Anenih and the Governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam today departed Nigeria on a British Airways flight out of the Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport apparently to avoid getting caught. The three were last seen boarding the BA flight scheduled for an 8:00am departure to London.

SaharaReporters learnt that more party officials and President Goodluck Jonathan’s aides, ministers and several appointees have either fled or planning to flee the country afraid that incoming President Muhammad Buhari will probe the administration of Mr. Jonathan and jail those found guilty of corruption. Last week, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-madueke traveled on the same flight with Buhari to London, while on the six hour trip she made several attempt to start a conversation with Mr. Buhari, but the 72-old winner of Nigeria's presidential election known for his no-nonsense stance on corruption rebuffed all her entreaties. It is not known if she ever returned to Nigeria.

The wife of the Mr. Suswam, Yemisi, reportedly left yesterday to Houston in the US to avoid getting caught up in the sweep.

Boko Haram: Buhari berates military

President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has expressed displeasure over what he described as the military’s inability to secure the lives and property.

Buhari said his administration will maintain prudence by ensuring that people live within their means.
He spoke in Kaduna yesterday when members of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) visited him, noting that his government will promote fiscal discipline and tackle insecurity, unemployment and corruption.

Buhari, who received the delegation behind closed-doors, lamented that, “the military has never been so incapacitated like now, It is a shame that the military cannot secure 14 local governments out of the 774 in the country.
According to the President-elect, what is more worrisome is the fact that the military had to rely on South African machinery before it could gain recent success in the war against Boko Haram.
He said: “My administration will concentrate on three major areas on assumption of office these are insecurity, economy, unemployment and corruption. We will ensure we nip the insecurity in the bud.”

“The Nigeria Army could not do small thing, they have to bring in South African machinery to enable them record the recent gains in the North East,” the Buhari said.
The morale of the security forces will be raised. The military is incapacitated; it is a shame that the military cannot secure 14 out of 774 local governments.
“I don’t know how many of you know this. I got to know about it few days ago that the recent game in the North-East was because South African mercenary were used.”
Buhari also assured that, the incoming administration will pay more attention to the needs of the ‎ thousands of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

Speaking on governance, the President-elect said his administration will ensure that every Nigerian lives within his earning, adding that, “a situation where people live above their earnings will not be tolerated. “The President-elect said multi-party system was the best form of government in which elected leaders were made to be accountable to their people. “In this system people will be forced to perform because if they don’t, they will be voted out.”

Earlier, ACF Chairman, Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie, told Buhari about the major problems facing Nigerians of recent.

“The level of decay, the collapse of our moral values and level of corruption, crime, unemployment, impoverishment of the citizenry in general and our rural populace in particular, and the near disregard for human life have never been manifested as in the last six years,” he said.
According to him, the North-eastern region was devastated by Boko Haram while energy crisis had continued to destabilize economic growth and development.
He said that the current arrangement whereby the positions of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the Head of Service of the Federation (HOSF) were regarded as superior to ministers in hierarchy was “against the principle of accountability in governance.”

Another way to determine how genuine a card is, is to download an app on Google play store called sdcard analyser. It can be use to check on writing speed also because it tell how the card manage its space and how it write and rewrite files. So if a card is fake and they tell u its class 10. The writing speed must be more than 10mb/s or appropriately 10mb/s. So even when u buy a card that claims to be class 10,u still need to watch out if its not class for u are buying. U know, The highest the class, The highest the speed, The higher the performance on ur phone and other device.

Another physical way of knowing genuine qualitites is that, original cards have serial number written on the side of the card.

Kaduna Governor Yero Stops Southern Kaduna Chiefs from Meeting VP-Elect Osinbajo


Nervous Kaduna State governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, on Tuesday morning pre-empted a meeting in the State between Southern Kaduna top traditional rulers and in-coming Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.


The Director General of Kaduna State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Mr. Ben Kure, disclosed this in a press statement.

Osinbanjo was in Kafanchan to meet critical stakeholders in the area including traditional rulers, Christian leaders, academic, youth and women leaders ahead of Saturday's governorship election.

For the gathering, the over 20 traditional rulers drawn from eight local government areas were on their way to the palace of the Chief of Kagoro, the venue of the meeting, when they received the governor's instruction.

Some of the invited chiefs had already arrived in the vicinity when they received signals warning them against meeting with the Vice-President-elect.

Kure said "The programme was to first meet traditional rulers before church leaders, and we had notified them and they were ready to receive our in-coming Vice President. The meeting was to pay homage and intimate them of what the in-coming Muhammadu Buhari's government has in stock for Nigerians irrespective religion, ethnicity, region or political interests.

He said they were surprised to receive a message that the governor had stopped the meeting and cautioned the invitees to return to their domains. The monarchs complied with the warning.

Non-indigene wins in Lagos



The first non-indigene to win a federal constituency seat in Lagos, Oghne Egoh, has said he will attract infrastructure to the state.
Egoh, who will represent Amuwo Odofin, made the promise in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
NAN reports that Egoh of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 29,761 votes to defeat the incumbent, Ganiyu Olukolu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 20,616 votes.
“In this particular constituency, the biggest problem we have is the decay of infrastructure; there is no water, sewage system is bad, and there are no playing grounds,” he said.
Egoh promised to lobby ministers in charge of the ministries responsible for such facilities for an improved infrastructure in his constituency.
The lawmaker-elect, who hails from Delta State, said his house-to-house campaign paid off, adding that he had been working for the election in the last two years.

Presidency doubts Mu’azu’s loyalty –Investigation




There were indications that the Presidency may have put the National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, under close watch, The Punch has learnt.

It was learnt that the Presidency was not comfortable with the activities of the chairman of the ruling party as some members of the party were said to have informed President Goodluck Jonathan of the alleged double-faced activities of Mu’azu.

It was learnt that the Presidency took the action following reports against the former Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda that he was not fully committed to the second term aspiration of President Jonathan.

Those against him were said to have informed the President and members of his kitchen cabinets that Mu’azu did not take any action following the stoning of the President’s convoy in some states in the North.

Specifically, he was said to have kept quiet over the stoning of the President’s vehicle in his home state.

The sad event in the state was blamed on the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, but the state Governor, Yuguga said that those who stoned the President were sponsored by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Muhammed.

The minister is a member of the ruling party.

The Presidency source said, “You can see that Mu’azu has not been vociferous in his campaign for the President in the North.

“He has never organised any rally on his own and has never attended any other except those organised by the party which were attended by the President.

“He has remained silent on the stoning of the President’s convoy in Taraba, Katsina and Taraba states. We have this unclear notion that he’s more interested in having a President from his region than President Jonathan returning. So, we are watching him.”

The source said the sign that Mu’azu could be up to a sinister motive emerged on the day the President inaugurated the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.

“Instead of speaking on the task ahead of the party and the campaign, Mu’azu in the full glare of the television and invited guests, lambasted the President and the party,” he added.

The Unraveling of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign

Which is one of the things I would like to gently explain to President Goodluck Jonathan as his presidential campaign blunders from scandal to snafu to general foul-up on a daily basis it seems.

The first time I really met Emmanuel Molokwu, he interrupted me in a rather abrupt fashion. I was perched in front of Okunuga Hall on LASU campus in company of an especially dear friend of mine, Victory, and I was in full flow, spouting off about the conduct of World War II from the German perspective and the series of strategic blunders Hitler made that ensured he lost it. The miracle of Dunkirk, his failure to reinforce Rommel in Africa, his idiotic orders to Von Paulus not to retreat an inch in the snow-swept steppes of Russia, I was in my element.

Then much to my irritation, this stranger butted in. 'You should say that the real reason for the failure of Germany is that tyrannical regimes contain within themselves the seeds of their own self-destruction.'

Huh? I'm talking history, this one is talking theory. But you can't stay irritated with Emman when he gets going. And boy, did he get going. Incredibly well-read, insightful and amusing, he's one friend I'm darned glad I made in LASU. His theory might have been a general one, but it's a powerful model for studying the rise and fall of tyrannies and bad governments in general. You can't fool all the people all the time, and if you found the basis of your regime ultimately on violence or fraud instead of on adding value to those you are in a leadership position to serve, eventually you'll be eaten up by the very same predatory values and practices you put in place to support you. Karma's a winsh like that.

Which is one of the things I would like to gently explain to President Goodluck Jonathan as his presidential campaign blunders from scandal to snafu to general foul-up on a daily basis it seems. I remember tartly observing around the time of his N21 billion presidential fundraiser, that with the number of thieves gathered in the president's campaign team, very little of that money would ever be applied for the purpose for which it was raised. And so it has proved. The complaints of his foot-soldiers on social media have reached comical lengths, bordering on how their Ogas are sitting on monies that should be going to the trenches where the propaganda missiles are being flung from. A certain Professor Nze of GEJ's campaign committee charged with engaging with civil society, is accused by his own disgruntled committee members of misapplying the kick-off funds of his committee to buy a bullet-proof Prado SUV for himself, among other luxury cars. And anybody seeing video footage of the scanty number of street urchins carrying anti-GMB placards outside Chatham House today would wonder what happened to the £20,000 reportedly earmarked for mobilising a credible protest against the people's General. The organisers couldn't even be bothered to coach the the protesters properly on what to say if they were interviewed by members of the press. They obviously hadn't a clue about the political process in general, let alone what is happening in faraway Nigeria. But that level of mediocrity is par for the course in GEJ's Nigeria where excellence seems to be a function of high-decibel noise-making.

Who's to blame? Who's to blame for the fact that when PDP buses in protesters or supporters for its rallies, scandalous fights regularly break out when the placard-carriers accuse the organisers of sitting on the money they were promised as wages for the lies they consented to carry? Who's to blame for the situation getting so bad, protesters are learning to demand their money up front these days, opening the organisers to the risk that they might not turn up at all after pocketing the money, or worse, might turn up and start shouting 'Sai Buhari'?

The song now is that the president has bad advisers. His media team in particular has come in for some hard knocks. They are accused of having mismanaged his campaign message, of having created needless enemies for the President. Nonsense, I say.

A leader is ultimately responsible for the calibre of people he attracts and selects to work in his leadership team. And GEJ's campaign team has run his campaign in precisely the same way as he runs the country - with no regard for standards of performance, feedback from the electorate, or objective universally accepted key performance indicators. In the same way that well-meant criticism of his administration has been met with stone-wall denials and cooked up figures, so are his mandarins now deceiving themselves and each other that they have the situation well in hand when a peep outside would tell them that they are sliding rapidly under a tide of democratic revolution.

For all his failings, we know what Buhari stands for. We know he won't tolerate corruption and incompetence in whatever administration he presides over. Those whose tendencies are corrupt are removing themselves from his vicinity or from his party, or subtly adjusting their rhetoric or behaviour to comply with his mien. His very presence at the apex of the APC conveys the impression, not so accurate in reality, that the APC is a party of non-corrupt competent people. It has a galvanising effect in convincing all those who still believe that standards matter that their thankless efforts might not be in vain after all. That is the the power of symbolism in leadership, the tacit message a personality can convey to millions just by being. The Alaafin of Oyo in ancient times had a choice of envoys he could send to represent him in diplomatic negotiations. If he sent the ilari named 'Oba ko se tan' (Oba is not ready), you might as well pack up your goatskin bag and go home without his opening his mouth, because the clear unspoken message was that the negotiation would be fruitless.

Goodluck Jonathan is himself the Oba ko se tan of PDP. His is a personality that convinces every corrupt political opportunist that for as long as he is in power, it is open season on the Nigerian economy with zero chance of getting caught if you are in with the right crowd. Why, you might even be up for a national award! When a man in his position spends as much time as he does rambling on the linguistic problems of separating stealing from corruption instead of physically demonstrating his unequivocal stand on the Seventh Commandment: 'Thou shalt not steal', when his wife is a serial money-launderer well-known to the international media and the EFCC, when his attitude to economic saboteurs and looters is to distribute presidential pardons and honours among them like so much candy, well it stands to reason that the people who feel most comfortable working for him won't mind stealing any yam placed in front of their noses, even if such yam was meant for the express purpose of furthering their Oga's presidential campaign. Hoist on his own corrupt petard, you might say.

Or as my mummy is fond of saying: "Who do good, e do am for himself. Who do bad, e do am for himself"

Nigeria’s Attorney General Files Affidavits To Scuttle Use Of PVCs For Elections

Affidavits filed by Nigeria’s Attorney General Mohammed Bello Adoke and just leaked to SaharaReporters reveal a stealth and controversial attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan’s government to undermine the use of permanent voter cards (PVCs) in the country’s forthcoming elections.

Judicial sources, who leaked the affidavits to SaharaReporters, said the documents show that Mr. Adoke is opposed to efforts by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and fair elections using an updated electronic voters register and permanent voter cards.

At campaign stumps and interviews, President Jonathan has touted the adoption of PVCs as part of his legacy to ensure the empowerment of Nigerian voters, stating that the initiative would eliminate lapses in past elections. But affidavits filed by Mr. Adoke, a longtime confidante of Mr. Jonathan’s, reveal a surreptitious scheme to undermine the use of PVCs.

In one of the affidavits, Mr. Adoke, who is also Nigeria’s Minister of Justice, argued, “if the election is conducted majorly with the use of Permanent Voters’ Card, the constitutional right of the many eligible voters would be taken away from them.”

The affidavit also argued that the election “is likely to be unsuccessful if rigid use of the Permanent Voters’ Card is carried out.”

A second affidavit, also leaked to SaharaReporters, stated, “the use of card readers and/ or any other machine at the general elections must encourage eligible voters to vote without being deprived in any way.”

INEC chairman Attahiru Jega recently stated that the use of PVCs would not be to cast votes but to validate and authenticate the votes cast. The distinction, he said, was that the PVCs and card readers would prevent electoral manipulation by acting as a checking mechanism.

An INEC source told SaharaReporters that, without these electronic verification mechanisms, the presidential and other elections could be severely compromised.

Mr. Adoke’s affidavits, which are dated February 23, 2015, expose yet another attempt by President Jonathan’s associates to use incessant lawsuits to disrupt electoral processes decided on and announced by INEC several years ago.

SaharaReporters had revealed that cronies of Mr. Jonathan had filed some 15 lawsuits aimed at once again scuttling the presidential election now scheduled for March 28, 2015.

The affidavits by Mr. Adoke represent a new twist in the familiar plot, one legal source in Abuja told SaharaReporters. “The office of the Attorney General of the Federation has aligned itself with many litigants who are determined to use the courts to either scuttle the elections or stop INEC from using the best tools to prevent or drastically reduce rigging in this year’s elections. The use of rigging-proof electronic voter cards, which the AGF is now challenging, is an ominous sign,” said the source, a senior advocate of Nigeria.

Ex-Militants Make U-Turn, Beg Nigerians To Vote For Jonathan



In a remarkable change of tone, ex-militant leaders from the Niger Delta zone who had threatened mayhem if President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated in the forthcoming presidential election, yesterday pleaded with Nigerians to vote to re-elect the incumbent president. They suggested that Mr. Jonathan be returned to office based on what they described as the noticeable achievements of his administration, noting that the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) had waged a campaign of hate against the president.

Speaking as members of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiatives (LPCDI), the ex-militant figures stated that, though the media campaign against President Jonathan was filled with hatred and deceit, the Nigerian voters should support the president’s re-election based on the achievements of his administration in the areas of education, power, infrastructural development and security.

The ex-militants issued their new toned-down endorsement of Mr. Jonathan at the end of a meeting presided over by the group’s national coordinator, Reuben Wilson, popularly known as General Pastor Reuben. The meeting was held yesterday in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. The group called on voters to focus on Mr. Jonathan’s performance instead of the rhetoric of hate against his administration.

Briefing reporters on the outcome of their meeting, Mr. Wilson said, “we resolved to call on Nigerians, particularly eligible voters, to rate the candidates for the presidential election based on performance and eligibility. President Goodluck Jonathan has done well and he should be voted in by Nigerians for [a] second term. They should assess him based on performance and not the region he comes from.”

His tone differed from a previous stance when the group warned that they would not countenance any attempt to vote out the president, with some of their members threatening that they would shut down oil production should the president be defeated.

In their latest softened statement, Mr. Wilson told reporters, “Jonathan has done well. Why are people opposing him? Is it because he comes from the Niger Delta? Would they have shown so much hatred and insincerity if he had come from the northern part of the country? The people of the South-South and the Niger Delta are feeling bad over the rising insults and poor rating in spite of the huge achievement of the present administration. We advised the opposition party and General Buhari to come out [openly] and declare that President Goodluck Jonathan has done well.”

He added: “Nigerians should check the achievements in the areas of security, peace and development. The amnesty program under the capable hands of Honorable Kingsley Kuku has ensured that over 3,000 youths are trained on scholarship and skill acquisition. Aside from showing readiness in the battle against insurgency with the proper procurement of arms and ammunition for the military, President Jonathan has ensured the recovery of over N300 billion of stolen funds and blocked any corrupt loopholes in the system. He has done well also in the area of roads and infrastructures with the judicious use of Sure-P funds.”

The ex-militants accused state governors who defected from the PDP to APC of playing to the gallery without differentiating their achievements in office under the PDP and the APC. “These governors are deceitful. They should tell Nigerians what they have been able to achieve under the APC. They should call their people together and tell them why they should vote for their stooges in the next governorship elections under the APC. All they have achieved in the states under their control was achieved under the PDP,” the group stated.

Contrary to the blatant denial of former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, and the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, that they were involved in a meeting where strategies for rigging the 2014 Ekiti State governorship election were discussed, the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, who was also at the meeting, has admitted that the meeting actually took place.

A recording of the meeting, which also featured other top officials of the government and Aliyu Momoh, a Brigadier General, was leaked last week.

Mr. Adesiyan, however, said the conversation in the leaked tape was an altercation between Mr. Fayose and Mr. Momoh after the former accused the later of being bribed by the then incumbent governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi.

“Fayose accused the General who supervised the Ekiti election of taking bribe from Fayemi and APC, that was two days before the election. They called me because they said the General disarmed policemen and I told him to allow the policemen to do their job,” he told the Sunday Punch newspaper.

“I was there, Fayose was there, Otunba Omisore was there, Senator Obanikoro was there. I am not denying that there was a conversation but it was not what they are saying.

“Nigerians are not dummies. These people are mischievous; somebody recorded the scene but let everybody listen to it. Listen to it yourself and get back to me.”

Mr. Obanikoro had denied that he was part of any meeting to rig the election.

“Whatever they are spreading within the social media, is something that APC made up. There is nowhere in the world you will find me talking about rigging an election anywhere in the country,” he said during an interview on Rhythm FM.

When the leaked audio was played back for him during the programme, Mr. Obanikoro replied that the recording showed someone was complaining about the plan of the APC to rig the election.

“The recording did not say I have manipulated any result from what I have listened to, rather, from what you have played is someone shouting at someone who is co-operating and collaborating with APC and trying to frustrate something.

“What that is, I don’t know, but from what I have heard, somebody shouting out loudly telling the other person that you are working with somebody else other than me, that’s what I could hear,” he said.

On his part, Mr. Fayose said his voice and that of other people in the recording was manipulated using speech software such as Natural Voices.

“Nigerians should be reminded of how the APC people lied in 2007 that they recorded how the governorship election was rigged even in the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, but the party could not produce a single photo evidence at the tribunal because their plan to do what is known as Morphing and Synthesis was exposed.

“Nigerians should also be reminded of the existence of a technology called speech software, which is good at reproducing the sounds, inflections and intonations of a human voice. The APC that we all know is a party of crooks, who are capable of doing anything, no matter how criminal to achieve its aim,” a statement by his media aide, Idowu Adelusi, read.

Similarly, the police minister, Mr. Adesiyan, said the recording is another devious move by the All Progressive Congress, APC, to discredit the victory of Mr Fayose after their previous attempts failed.

“In order to set the record straight, we say emphatically that the offensive YouTube (audio) was unfounded and meant to hoodwink the unwary and portray the PDP and its leaders across the South West in a bad light.

“How did Omisore and those mentioned in the YouTube (audio) rig election when all the stakeholders in Ekiti voted for Fayose? Initially, the APC claimed it was stomach infrastructure that won the people’s mandate for Fayose. When that would not fly, they say it was photo-chromic rigging.

“Now, it is army and police who were coordinated to rig for Fayose, what balderdash!”

Contrary to the blatant denial of former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, and the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, that they were involved in a meeting where strategies for rigging the 2014 Ekiti State governorship election were discussed, the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, who was also at the meeting, has admitted that the meeting actually took place.

A recording of the meeting, which also featured other top officials of the government and Aliyu Momoh, a Brigadier General, was leaked last week.

Mr. Adesiyan, however, said the conversation in the leaked tape was an altercation between Mr. Fayose and Mr. Momoh after the former accused the later of being bribed by the then incumbent governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi.

“Fayose accused the General who supervised the Ekiti election of taking bribe from Fayemi and APC, that was two days before the election. They called me because they said the General disarmed policemen and I told him to allow the policemen to do their job,” he told the Sunday Punch newspaper.

“I was there, Fayose was there, Otunba Omisore was there, Senator Obanikoro was there. I am not denying that there was a conversation but it was not what they are saying.

“Nigerians are not dummies. These people are mischievous; somebody recorded the scene but let everybody listen to it. Listen to it yourself and get back to me.”

Mr. Obanikoro had denied that he was part of any meeting to rig the election.

“Whatever they are spreading within the social media, is something that APC made up. There is nowhere in the world you will find me talking about rigging an election anywhere in the country,” he said during an interview on Rhythm FM.

When the leaked audio was played back for him during the programme, Mr. Obanikoro replied that the recording showed someone was complaining about the plan of the APC to rig the election.

“The recording did not say I have manipulated any result from what I have listened to, rather, from what you have played is someone shouting at someone who is co-operating and collaborating with APC and trying to frustrate something.

“What that is, I don’t know, but from what I have heard, somebody shouting out loudly telling the other person that you are working with somebody else other than me, that’s what I could hear,” he said.

On his part, Mr. Fayose said his voice and that of other people in the recording was manipulated using speech software such as Natural Voices.

“Nigerians should be reminded of how the APC people lied in 2007 that they recorded how the governorship election was rigged even in the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, but the party could not produce a single photo evidence at the tribunal because their plan to do what is known as Morphing and Synthesis was exposed.

“Nigerians should also be reminded of the existence of a technology called speech software, which is good at reproducing the sounds, inflections and intonations of a human voice. The APC that we all know is a party of crooks, who are capable of doing anything, no matter how criminal to achieve its aim,” a statement by his media aide, Idowu Adelusi, read.

Similarly, the police minister, Mr. Adesiyan, said the recording is another devious move by the All Progressive Congress, APC, to discredit the victory of Mr Fayose after their previous attempts failed.

“In order to set the record straight, we say emphatically that the offensive YouTube (audio) was unfounded and meant to hoodwink the unwary and portray the PDP and its leaders across the South West in a bad light.

“How did Omisore and those mentioned in the YouTube (audio) rig election when all the stakeholders in Ekiti voted for Fayose? Initially, the APC claimed it was stomach infrastructure that won the people’s mandate for Fayose. When that would not fly, they say it was photo-chromic rigging.

“Now, it is army and police who were coordinated to rig for Fayose, what balderdash!”

EXCLUSIVE: Presidency angry with Jega for blaming poll shift on security chiefs


An uneasy relationship now exists between presidency and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the reason adduced for the adjustment of the general election dates, TheCable understands. Attahiru Jega, a professor of political science and INEC chairman, had attributed the shift in dates from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11 respectively to a letter written by the military over its “inability” to provide security for the elections because of ongoing operations against Boko Haram in the north-east. But a presidency official who spoke with TheCable at the weekend said Jega was being “clever by half” and was attempting to “pass the buck” in order to cover up for INEC’s poor preparations for the elections. The official only spoke on the condition that he would not be quoted. “Jega was not sincere at all. The collection of PVCs was to end last Saturday and 23 million cards were yet to be distributed. Why was Jega not man enough to admit they would have bungled the elections if the dates had remained unchanged?” he asked.

According to the official, who is a presidential aide, the security issue was just one of the several factors that necessitated the shift in the dates “but Jega has cleverly gone to tell the whole world that it was the security agencies that forced him to change the dates.” He said journalists should have asked him what he intended to do with the 23 million uncollected PVCs as well as the ones that were stolen from INEC’s custody. “Jega was also silent on the fact that the machines that would be deployed to read the cards had not been tested and its officials had not even been trained on how to use them, while there is yet no consolidated voter register. Jega himself admitted to his commissioners that the election would have ended in chaos if INEC had gone ahead. The letter written by the chief of defence staff was the perfect excuse for him to shift the polls and heap all the blame on security,” he said. President Goodluck Jonathan had grown suspicious of Jega, the source added, because of the “lopsidedness” in the management of the PVC distribution exercise and the pronouncements of the INEC chairman on Saturday are believed to have worsened matters.

Rumours have been circulating that Jega may be asked to proceed on terminal leave since his tenure ends on June 30, 2015, with an acting chairman appointed to oversee the elections. However, this looks unlikely since he can only proceed on terminal leave three months to the expiration of his tenure — which is not earlier than March 30, 2015, two days after the new date for state elections. It is unprecedented that a new chairman would be appointed for INEC in the middle of a general election. Jega himself has said he has no reason to resign but would do so if he has to. Section 132 (2) of the constitution allows for elections to be held up till April 30, and this had further fuelled fears that the country may be plunged into a crisis if Jega is asked to proceed on terminal leave. There would however be a constitutional crisis if the election is held on April 30 and there is a need for run-off if no candidate meets the requirements to be declared a winner. The constitution stipulates that the run-off should be within seven days, effectively making it impossible to hold the election 30 days to the May 29 exit date for current administration. The US has already warned Nigeria against “further delays” — a clear message that there should be no further change in dates. ABUJA — With the successful postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Presidency has launched a two-pronged war to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan wins the election convincingly.

The two strategies are to stop Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate from contesting the election with Jonathan and the replacement of the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, with a less independent-minded person. Jega, it was gathered, had been described by hawks around the president of being too independent-minded and ‘uncooperative’ despite being given the job on a platter of gold by the president’s men.

Vanguard learnt that Jega might have unwittingly played into the hands of the forces arrayed against him by agreeing to shift the elections.

Legal war to disqualify Buhari

Competent sources said last night that the move to remove Jega and the legal fireworks against Buhari, would be taken up simultaneously with effect from this week given the timeframe made possible by the shift.

The retired general is to be prosecuted by a team of legal luminaries for ‘lying on oath’ that he had a school certificate with the Nigerian Army when he knew that it was untrue. The plaintiffs are said to have settled for trying Buhari for alleged ‘perjury’ instead of outright non-possession of certificate following legal advice that the latter would be more difficult to prove within the time at their disposal.

Vanguard learnt that although Jega reluctantly succumbed to pressure from the Presidency and its security chiefs to shift the polls, he might still not be allowed by the forces to conduct the rescheduled elections between March 28 and April 11. Vanguard gathered from competent sources that the Presidency was no longer comfortable with Jega and was, therefore, working tirelessly to get him out of the commission to pave the way for a more ‘trusted hand’ to conduct the rescheduled elections.

It was learnt that the forces arrayed against the INEC boss had convinced the President not to renew Jega’s tenure, which is expected to lapse on June 13 this year. The forces, it was learnt, felt that Jega was rather too ‘difficult’ to deal with, having not allowed himself to be dictated to by anyone since assuming office like other appointees of the government.

It was learnt that in a bid to sweep off Jega from his seat without raising any dust, he would be asked to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, this year since he is expected to retire on June 13.

S-West gov’s brother may replace Jega

Vanguard gathered that in his place, the Presidency was considering bringing in another academic from the South-West, who is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. The professor of Political Science and International Relations is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and his party.

Competent sources also told Vanguard last night that although the name of the academic had been made known in security circles, it was not clear whether the man had been cleared by the forces with a view to sending his name to the National Assembly for possible confirmation, as required by law.

Working against Jonathan’s interest



As a prelude to removing Jega from office, some close allies of the President had started accusing him of taking side with the opposition to undermine the success of Jonathan and his party in the next election. Earlier last week, Jonathan’s godfather, Chief Edwin Clark and other prominent politicians from the Southern part of the country had accused Jega of working against the interest of the president and the PDP and asked him to resign from the commission.

Although no evidence was adduced by Clark and his group to support their allegation, they nonetheless called for the arrest of Jega. Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Saturday, said Jega had lied about the state of the commission’s preparedness for the conduct of the election.

In the same vein, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh, accused INEC of working with the opposition to deny its members of permanent voter cards in some states. He called on the security agents to probe the commission over the development.

The New York-based security firm that helped analyse the voices of the characters in the shocking leaked recording on the rigged Ekiti election has given insight into how it determined the authenticity of the audio clip.
In a report, Guardian Consulting said it conducted a forensic examination on the discussion and compared the voices to public record samples of the known individuals.
In an interview with PREMIUM TIMES, Tom Fitzgerald, the President of the company, confirmed that his company did the investigation.
“I can confirm that we did the testing,” Mr. Fitzgerald said.
He declined further comments, referring PREMIUM TIMES to a London-based firm, ATP Advisers, who he said gave his company the job. ATP Advisers could not be reached for comments.
According to his Linkedin profile, Mr. Fitzgerald was a former detective with the New York Police Detective [NYPD] and the Foreign Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He has over 30 years experience as a detective of repute.

Guardian Consulting Group LLC were engaged on Nov. 10 to conduct forensic examinations on an audio recording purported to be a private discussion among presumed Nigerian officials regarding disrupting an election (“The Recording”). The first phase of the engagement was to conduct analysis to identify the voices on The Recording by comparing them to public record samples of known individuals. The second phase was to judge the veracity of selected parts of the conversation to a degree of scientific survey.
Executive Summary of Findings:
IDENTIFICATION
The following voices from The Recording were subjected to a Forensic Voice Frequency Comparison against known samples and were found to match to a 98% degree of certainty:

• A person identified as Obanikoro with 80% of certainty was judged to be completely truthful when he said to a person identified as Abdul Kareem: If am a happy man tomorrow night, the sky is your limit, and at the end of the day if am unhappy…I am not here for tea party, am on a special assignment by the president.”
• A person identified as Abdulkareem with a 98% degree of certainty said: “I was the one who created road blocks, I was the officer on ground sir.”)

METHODOLOGY
Starting with provided sample, identified here as The Recording, voices were isolated and five voices were positively identified as uniquely identical through voice print analysis. One additional background voice fragment was isolated but no identification was made (n.b. It is possible that the additional voice came one of the five subjects but was distorted due to a recording or transmission glitch). The unidentified voice fragment was fleeting and did not make up a substantial part of the conversation.
The Forensic Voice System (“FVS”) measures including frequencies discernable by the human ear as well as others above and below human recognition. Patterns of the frequencies are entered into the FVS in which a
Frequency Voice Print is then produced and displayed. The Voice Print is quantified for comparison.
The process was repeated with the provided known samples and Voice Prints were established for each of the five subjects.
Identical words were identified from The Recording and the known samples. Each of the identical words was printed. The prints were then compared leading to the following conclusion:
• Governor Ayo Fayose was found to match the public sample to a 98% or greater degree of scientific certainty.
• Senator Iyiola Omisore was found to match the public sample to a 98% or greater degree of scientific certainty.
• Honourable Abdulkareem was found to match the public sample to a 98% or greater degree of scientific certainty.
• Caleb Olubolade was found to match the public sample to a 98% or greater degree of scientific certainty.
. Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro was found to match the public sample to a 80% or greater degree of scientific certainty.
The prints were further analyzed for veracity. No substantive untruths were identified: 85% of the conversations were deemed to contain identifiable veracity to a 98% degree of certainty. The remaining 15% was identified as inconclusive.
The findings are based on the samples supplied. We relied on public identification of the known samples.
Further analysis of the voice attributed to Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro may result in a higher degree of certainty, but quality of the original recording not the additional publicly available samples are the primary reason for this level of veracity being listed. Further analysis against the new samples will be completed on Monday December 1.
