I don't think you need a VPN to download from Netnaija. VPN is used mostly to mask your IP to able to download stuffs like torrent or access content that normally wouldn't be available in your location. If you are using a Company WiFi/Broadband tho, i will suggest you get a VPN just to be safe, but if you are on your personal pc or phone with data service from a telco in Nigeria, getting a VPN to download from Netnaija will be an overkill so i suggest you don't.

Justice Minister, Malami Angry, Opposed To Recent Raid, Arrest, Exposing Rich Suspects Allegedly Funding Boko Haram


Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) is unhappy and angry about the recent arrest of some persons allegedly funding Boko Haram terrorists, including operators of some Bureax De Change said to have been facilitating the transfer of money to the terrorists, SaharaReporters has learnt.

A top source in government told SaharaReporters how Malami was opposed to the raid and subsequently at loggerheads with the task force for carrying it out.


It had earlier been reported how about 400 persons were arrested for allegedly funding Boko Haram terrorists.

The series of arrests were made in Kano, Borno, Abuja, Lagos, Sokoto, Adamawa, Kaduna and Zamfara, according to a Daily Trust report.

It was also reported that traders at the foreign exchange open market in Wapa, Fagge Local Government, were picked up on March 9, 15th and 16th.

Meanwhile, according to the source, apart from Malami opposing the raid, he also opposes having the names of those arrested released to the public.

“Malami was opposed to the raid and now he opposes having the names of those arrested revealed. So, he is fighting the task force that carried out the raid. He is saying it was illegal.

“You see, some of those arrested were people he had freed through his Special Fiat Court that sat in Niger state and parts of Abuja. Those guys are wealthy and he wants to collect money from them and let them off,” the source told SaharaReporters.

It has been reported that 19 Bureax De Change owned by persons with “direct connection with Boko Haram” were uncovered, while over N300 billion was found to have been pumped into the funding of terrorism in the country.

So, there is a huge amount of money involved, transferred through illicit means.

Those arrested are reportedly being kept in military and Department of State Services facilities in Abuja and other places.

But despite Malami’s resistance to having their names revealed to the public, the identities of some Bureau De Change operators arrested for facilitating the transfer of money to the terrorists have been revealed.

Some of them were traders at the foreign exchange open market in Wapa, Fagge Local Government of Kano state and identified as Baba Usaini, Abubakar Yellow (Amfani), Yusuf Ali Yusuf (Babangida), Ibrahim Shani, Auwal Fagge and Muhammad Lawan Sani (a gold dealer), according to a Daily Trust report.

Despite being the nation that has suffered the heaviest casualties through Boko Haram atrocities for many years, with over 30,000 thousand people killed and millions of others displaced, Nigeria has shown weakness in dealing decisively with the terrorists and blocking their source of funding.

It took a court in the United Arab Emirates in 2020 to jail six Nigerians for funding the terror group.

In November 2020, there were reports of how six Nigerians were facing prison terms of 10 years to life after a federal appeals court in the United Arab Emirates upheld their convictions for funding the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The accused were initially tried and convicted in 2019 following their arrest in 2017.

The court in Abu Dhabi therefore sentenced Surajo Abubakar Muhammad and Saleh Yusuf Adamu to life in prison. Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, AbdurRahman Ado Musa, Bashir Ali Yusuf and Muhammad Ibrahim Isa were each given a ten-year sentence.

The court judgement said between 2015 and 2016, the accused transferred $782,000 from Dubai to Nigeria to benefit Boko Haram.

Following the successful trial of the six persons in the UAE, which was a smack in the face for the Nigerian government, an embarrassed presidency felt it had to do something to save its face, with the international community already doubting its commitment to the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the country.

In March 2021, Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the Nigerian Government had arrested some Bureau De Change operators who were facilitating the transfer of money to Boko Haram terrorists.

He had said some Nigerians transferring money to the sect from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were working with the BDC operators.

“Bureax de change are facilitating money to terrorists. We have already worked with the UAE. Convictions have been achieved of Nigerians who are transferring money to Boko Haram terrorists and this also happens domestically. And I tell you that by the time we finish this investigation, the shocking details will surprise many Nigerians,” Shehu had said.

In February 2018, a Nigerian court in Kainji, Niger State freed 475 Boko Haram suspects, with those released for lack of evidence far outweighing those convicted of being members of the Islamist militant group.

According to the Justice Ministry, some were suffering from mental illnesses but it was not clear whether the conditions existed before their arrests.

Also, at a mass trial, held in October 2017, more than 400 suspects were released, with just 45 jailed for their roles in the Boko Haram insurgency.

The AGF and Justice Minister, Malami had told the BBC that the released suspects would be rehabilitated before being allowed to return to their families.

Just last weekend, governors of the states battling with Boko Haram terrorism in the North-East asked the Nigerian Government to issue a special fiat, different from the general one issued earlier, to enable them to speedily prosecute suspects arrested for terrorism.

In separate interviews with Sunday PUNCH, the governors of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states who spoke through their Commissioners of Justice and Attorneys General, noted that the fiat issued by Malami, which allowed states to prosecute federal offences, was not enough to prosecute suspected terrorists.

For instance, Commissioner for Justice in Borno State, Mr Kaka Shehu Lawan, confirmed receiving from the AGF the “general fiat” to prosecute federal offenders but noted that they needed “specific” fiat for cases related to Boko Haram.

Shehu, who spoke on behalf of Governor Babagana Zulum, said, “Yes I am in receipt of the general fiat by the Attorney General of the Federation to prosecute all offenders who commit federal offences in any of the 36 states of the federation but he (Malami) didn’t give us a specific fiat to prosecute Boko Haram insurgents.

“What we want from the Attorney General of the Federation is for him to give us a specific fiat and collaboration to prosecute Boko Haram insurgents in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states where the Boko Haram insurgents commit crime against the Nigerian federation.”

Why President Buhari Sacked IGP Adamu – Police Sources

President Muhammadu Buhari, influenced by the Aso Rock cabals, decided to end the tenure of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, due to the embarrassing security deterioration in the South-East and South-South regions, particularly, top sources have revealed to SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters learnt that some people close to President Muhammadu Buhari also believe Adamu, although coincidentally on a working visit to Imo State, has run out of ideas to deal with the ravaging secessionist groups threatening the unity of the country, the peace in the region and security personnel in the region.

Imo State, where Adamu went on Tuesday, has had the latest and arguably the most daring attacks by gunmen – whom he said were believed to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network – working ultimately towards a secessionist agenda funded by foreign influences.

“That IGP Mohammed Adamu was sacked while on an operational visit to Imo State means a lot. He was in the good books of the Presidency and had only spent about two months out of his three-month extension. But the rising attacks in the South-East and South-South are what every powerbroker around Buhari frowns on and believes Adamu should go because he has run out of ideas.

“The cabals are afraid secession is coming and anarchy is rising from the South. The immediate task of the new IGP will be to manage the rising insurrection in the Southern region,” one of the sources revealed.

“The new IGP is from Yobe State, and he understands insurgency. He was the Head of Force Criminal Investigation Department. He has been given orders from the Presidency and he knows why exactly he has been brought and the urgent tasks before him,” another source stated.

“The attack in Imo was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. There was a conspiracy by some police officers to also sabotage Adamu into being ridiculed. He was no longer popular. The proximity of the prison facility and the state police headquarters that were breached in Owerri to other security agencies leaves so much to be investigated. The attack lasted for more than three hours and the attackers moved more than 1,000 inmates out of the vicinity without being repelled or arrested. That was sabotage and the Presidency was angry that Adamu could no longer manage the police,” the source added.

Muhammed Dingyadi, the Minister of Police Affairs, communicated the president’s replacement of Adamu with DIG Usman Alkali Baba, to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.

The president said Alkali should replace Mohammed Adamu with immediate effect.

Buhari had on February 4 extended the tenure of Adamu as the IGP for three months.

Adamu, who was appointed in 2019, had clocked the mandatory 35 years in service on February 1 and was expected to have been replaced by the president.

His tenure extension had elicited widespread criticism and a resultant lawsuit.

Maxwell Opara, a legal practitioner, had taken the IGP to court, contending that by virtue of section 215 of the Nigerian constitution and section 7 of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, he cannot continue to function as the IGP, having retired as a serving member of the force.

In his defence, the IGP had told the Federal High Court that the new Nigeria Police Act gave him a four-year tenure, which would only lapse in either 2023 or 2024.

Supporting Adamu’s position, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had stated that the law permitted the IGP to remain in office.

That accurate report is not available does not mean that it does not exist. Your claim that there was no Lekki massacre is a false and disingenuous one as an interpretation of the position of the report.

The Arewa United Consultative Forum has called on northerners across the country not to retaliate against southerners following the recent clash between Yoruba and Hausa communities in Shasha market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The group said the North and South-West should not be engaged in such disputes, likening them husband and wife or slave and master relationship because of their "similar traditions and religious beliefs".

AUCF also condemned the crisis which has claimed lives and resulted in the loss of properties worth millions of naira, describing as the handiwork of the enemies of the country.

This was contained in a press statement released by the group and made available to SaharaReporters on Tuesday.

In the statement signed by its President, Alhaji Ado Shuaibu Dansudu, the forum recalled how the country had produced great leaders across ethnic lines working together to promote the unity of the country, which the present generation must imbibe.

Dansudu, however, said in the statement that the crises in Nigeria should be blamed on the enemies of the country who always fan embers of disunity, as it was with the past leaders.

“We call on all northerners not to retaliate following the unfortunate crisis that broke out in Shasha, Ibadan. We know that there are some elements who are trying to cause problems between the North and the South-West, but Insha Allah, their plans will be destroyed.

“The North and the South-West are just like husband and wife or slave and his master because we share similar traditions and religious beliefs. Besides, we are both accommodating but we don’t know what brought about the hatred and misunderstanding that is playing out between the northerners and the southwesterners.”

According to him, northerners and southerners have specific businesses they are known for which promote economic growth in the country, and ethnicity should not be allowed to destroy it.

“The northerners did not take over their businesses or their places in work. Anywhere you see 100 northerners in the South-West, they are only there to sell what they labour for. They also create jobs for the southerners like the abattoir.

“There are thousands of southerners working there and there are millions of them selling fresh meat all over the South-West, and there are thousands of them dealing in perishable food items and there are thousands of market women who buy from the market. Some even buy on credit. There are many markets in the South-West where there are no northerners because they don’t sell their items there. So there is a good understanding between northerners and the southerners right from independence.

“Sir Samuel Akintola was appointed by Sir Ahmadu Bello as the Premier of the South-West. General Yakubu (Gowon) appointed (Chief Obafemi) Awolowo as minister of finance. Then, Nigeria relied on the resources of the North before the discovery of oil. General Murtala (Mohammed) picked Obasanjo as his second-in-command.

“Also, General Ibrahim Babangida picked a southerner as his second-in-command just as General Buhari picked Tunde Idiagbon. Similarly, General Sani Abacha picked Oladipo Diya as his second-in-command just as Buhari picked (Prof. Yemi) Osinbajo as his running mate in the recently concluded presidential election.

“Right from the time of Nigeria’s struggle for dependence at that time, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the most popular and one of the dogged independence fighters. Some people who didn’t want the progress of the nation sabotaged him and instigated him to form a tribal political party.

“These same people caused misunderstanding between Chief Awolowo and Samuel Akintola who later became rivals and when Sir Akintola became the premier in the then Western Region, the same people told lies against Sir Akintola and Awolowo that he attempted a coup during Tafawa Balewa's regime.

“In the Second Republic, these same people instigated Awolowo to form a political party along tribal lines after the assassination of Sir Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa. Chief Awolowo was the strongest and the most popular politician at that time and the same people sabotaged him from becoming the President of Nigeria.

“Once again; the same people prevented Chief MKO Abiola from becoming the President of Nigeria and the same people rejected (Ernest) Shonekan as the Head of Interim Government and the same people rejected Obasanjo for the Third Republic and the same people tied the hands of the five South-West states to give the Peoples Democratic whereby only Lagos State survived with the efforts of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and now the same people are trying to sabotage Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ambition of becoming President. It will not be surprising if they turn round to blame the Northerners.

Dansudu also urged Nigerians to be wary of the enemies of the country trying to use ethnic and religious differences to cause havoc.

“It is the same set of people who are instigating the misunderstanding and problems between the Southerners and Northerners. Therefore we need to be very careful. Buhari is a northerner and Osinbajo is a southerner and they are taking coffee together and the Senate and House of Representatives' members are taking coffee together. Ministers and ambassadors are taking coffee together; we the masses, why are we fighting and killing one another? When they send enforcement agents, they send three major tribes and when there is a religious crisis, they send Muslim and Christian enforcement agents to stop the crisis.

“If the people are saying Nigeria is not a good country, then we spoilt it together. But I know that the enemies of peace, since independence have been trying to use ethnicity and religion to cause a problem. Our question is 'is it only Nigeria that has different tribes and religions?'

“What surprises us is that there are many southwesterners facing trial for killing their fellow southerners and there are northerners facing trial for killing their fellow northerners and there are easterners facing trial for killing their fellow easterners, likewise the South-South and there are Muslims facing trial for killing their fellow Muslims and Christians facing trial for killing their fellow Christians.

“Why not take the matter to the authorities or settle it amicably? If it is inter-tribal or inter-religious, it turns to violence. What happened in Shasha is very sad because innocent people lost their lives and properties. We must warn our people. To our surprise, most of the northern and southern boys are drug addicts, and the children of the drug dealers don’t use the drug so we have to do something about it.

“So we should not be killing one another on the basis of language because there are many northerners in the South who cannot locate their towns in the North. Likewise, there are southerners who cannot locate their towns in the South. They have naturally become northerners. I want to advise Nigerians to be their brothers’ keeper and to live in peace and harmony with one another."
