Bisoye82: Pregnancy do mess up a woman's energy level i.e feeling sleepy, headaches, tiredness, nausea, etc. In my own case, I discovered 1 month into the job that my nanny is pregnant but she insist that it won't affect her work Not true She starts to complain about my twin girl that she doesn't sleep as often as the boy to the extent that she started making unsettling comments when she receives her in the morning like wahala girl, drama queen blah blah Then she will take the whole day off to go for antenatal and on public holidays she will send sms that she is having headaches,,etc(which means am on my own, mind you I don't have any other help). She was working Mon-Fri 7:30-4pm.I had to systematically lay her off. So pregnancy is relevant. I would advise you do: Hep B n C Retroviral Mantoux TB quantiferon (expensive but gives peace...our angels worth it all) Widal test (I love to do this so u can treat if needed cos at the end it is less expensive than having to treat if she falls ill) PS: no need for mantoux if u want to do the quantiferon. |

AlphaHandMaiden: Hmnnn! It depends on the man oh!
Some men, have it in their heads that home chores are women's work. Only! .Help or no help.
yes its 2016 and sadly some people still think like that.
My hubby's stance is ... " if we can afford to pay someone to do it, why are we stressing ourselves"
If we had help i know there are things he helps out with that he wont bother with. And i dont blame him oh because Me sef i have my list of certain things i will not do.. True talk...it depends on the man. My hubs will claim he will like to help, 'just explain what u want done', by the time u use 30mins to explain...u r fed up cos it's still not well done...so why bother?? The one he's good at is "straightening the bed sheet" and claiming he's made it! His stance is exactly like your hubby...we have helps but there are just somethings I can't let them do for me: I always bathe the kids myself, make their food and wash n sterilize their bottles...can't trust nannys on the los hygiene abeg. Hubs, always like: what's the point in having nannys then?? But me understand what am doing n it makes me more comfy. |

Note on the boldened.
Cabbage leaf has an enzyme that reduces the production of milk by the body. So if you are not in the process of stopping breast milk production ie weaning your child off breastfeeding, perhaps it is best to avoid the cabbage leave treatment for mastitis if you are still actively breastfeeding. I do agree that it is used for stopping breast milk production. In this case, there is engorgement and continuous breast feeding / expressing. There is no way in the world it will stop the milk production, to the best of my knowledge. Then again, she doesn't have to use chilled cabbage, most important thing is using warm compress before/during nursing and using cold ice pack after nursing. She could use any cold pack she's more comfy with. Milk production reduces in affected breast after mastitis...re establishment would still have to be worked on...cheers! |

helovesme: You owe me champagne
You have to keep trying different varieties as he will soon get bored of this combo sooner or later.
For example, you can continue the chicken and vegs purée but throw in a bit of potatoes or pasta. You can swap the chicken for fish. Rather than assorted vegetables, you can use just carrot. You can also replace the chicken with boiled beef.
Have you tried wheat (the Honeywell brand)? He might prefer it to semo. I have tried wheat and plain ewedu and my son loves it.
Feel free to experiment even if the combo comes across as weird. I truly owe u that drink oo...we've been finishing our food. Only annoying thing is after wasting all the Gerber cereal I got, he's now interested in cereal!! Like are these kids for real?? Well, I can't complain, but to thank God...and pray He keeps providing,Amen. Will start experimenting like you advised... Also a big thank you for the pampers baby dry pants...it's fantastic...they both using size 5! Will just store the size 4 for my next...lol Have a great one and kisses to your son...cheers! |

lawvlypearl: Pls help a sister! I had catarrh yesterday...but I woke up this morning feeling so restless, my left breast is painful and I'm feeling a lumpy kind of thing in it, my baby refused to latch on it, so I ended up expressing but the lumpy thing is still there and painful too. I've been shivering, have headache, catarrh, body ache etc. I can't even get up to cook(dh not home),I managed to prepare pap this evening. Pls any mama with these experience before? I plan to go to the clinic if no improvement by morning. Pls don't read and passs This sounds like mastitis, the lump, fever, restlessness and flu are classic symptoms. Without the flu I would have said maybe it's a plugged(blocked) ducts. The treatment is continuous breast feeding, take lots of fluids, rest, and massaging of the affected breast. If your baby is refusing the breast, pls just put something warm on the the affected breast to help with let down and keep expressing the milk out. Massage the lumpy areas and apply a cold compress on it- yes, I know you have the flu. Take some painkillers- Tylenol- for the pains. Do the expressing and massaging like your life depends on it...put the cold compress for like 25mins at a time in between feeds/expressing, this will help with inflammation. Chilled cabbage leaves in the bra helps. If after 24hrs there's no improvement, pls get to your GP to rule out infection. All the best dear... |

@helovesme, onegai and alphaHandmaiden It feels like I won a million dollars jackpot...my boy finished his food throughout yesterday. I made chicken n veggies puréed. He finished it- 3 heaped adult spoons o...no fuss, no singing. He was quiet and just opening his mouth so we went quiet with him and had them take his sister to another room cos her noise is something else. After the meal I gave him steamed carrot sticks as dessert- he nibbled a little n played with the remaining. For late lunch, it was semo- he didn't take. So I decided to try same combo as the brunch- he finished it again! He took same with banana pudding for supper!
Do I keep giving him just this or what now oo?? Thanks so much for your assistance... |

I don't know about already fried groundnut, but won't advise if for baby. Chickpea is seen mainly in Asian cuisine. It is high in fibre and protein. pheesayor: Hello Mums
My baby is 20 days today and there's complain that she's stooling too much. How much excreta is too much for a baby? She was on flagyl for 7 days after placed under a photolamp to treat jaundice. They say it might be the flagyl but we have stopped it for about a week now. How many times a day should a normal 20-day old baby pass stool? There is no set number of time for pooping. Check for the colour n consistency of poop. A normal ebfd baby's poop should be yellow and seeded watery( not diarrhoea watery), seeds are like egusi...a combo fed baby might have same but a lil thicker; a formula fed baby colour ranges from yellow to light brown with a paste-like consistency- peanut butter like. If baby's poop physical appearance is ok n baby have good number of wets too, then all is well. Baby is said to be thriving. Some babies poop after every feed. |

lioha: Hello mums how are our wonderful gifts(LO) doing?
Pls what's the best food for a six month's old? In my opinion, I would say puréed foods...sweet potatoes, carrots, rice, peas, cereal, et al... Just make sure it is single food, single grain - no combos yet. This is to make sure baby has no allergy or negative reaction to the food. I followed the 3 days rule in the 6th month, i.e, you give wait 3 days before introducing another food to baby, this is also cos of allergy. If you are just introducing solids to baby, Start with smooth puréed food gradually to mashed food... |

Onegai: iomoge2, will you have access to a very cold freezer in the hospital or at home after birth? If you do, you should try and make a Witch Hazel padsicle. I had one after I gave birth and didn't need to sitz bath (I only did them because everyone said I should).
Get alcohol-free Witch Hazel (either from Healthplus or online from Jules Therapy on Konga.com), mix 60: 40 ratio witch hazel to cold water (you can put regular water and freeze the entire mixture) and soak with a towel and put it in your pad. You can add Aloe Vera gel (which you can extract from the plant or get Fruit of the Earth aloe Vera gel), Lavender essential oil (also from Healthplus or Ebeano) and add to the mix. You don't even have to pour it on a towel, you can pour the mixture straight between your legs. But it has to be alcohol-free Witch Hazel.
I would have mentioned it earlier but those ingredienta have gotten a bit pricey with the dollar issue. Hymn...I remember this...very cooling. I had no tears but knew sthg monumental had happened to my thingy down there. So I used this and felt better. It is very effective. Thumbs up to you mama. |

ozycy: How exactly did you do this? Did you roast the groundnut yourself, what kind of blender did you use. Make I follow you dey chop home made gnut paste. Mine is finished and am not ready to send sis inlaw in this Buharised era. Yes I roasted groundnut myself. I explained a few pages back on how to do that, pls check. I made use of the dry mill of my blender initially. The brand is kenwood...not all this new kenwood o, have had this since...way before wedding. My lil sis bought a new kenwood at mega plaza and it packed up in under 5 weeks! Apologies for digressing jare. The dry mill us small and was taking too much time, so I decided to use my food processor...viola! It worked better and faster! Just keep blending, stopping every 3mins or up to you, to scrape it the sides. It will go crumbly, but keep at it...after a while you won't need anyone to tell you. When smooth add your oil, honey or whatever flavour- if using. The oil makes it smoother n creamier. Enjoy! |
