Thanks again @Rubiish, DeeMain, trendyprettygirl and toksbisola.

I have further, deeply understood your advice. We shall have a meeting on this in the coming weeks.
It's not as if I don't talk to her on anything, just that I haven't reasoned to sit her down and tell her that it is not very good she is too close to her father, and that she should work to cut it down. I was of the view it could lead to withdrawal of some sort that may be bad for the family.

She is not a badly behaved or lousy person. I have watched her grow for almost 2 decades, I know what she can or cannot do. Just that I overlooked this closeness thing, and believed she would outgrow it with time, but the time isn't just coming.

My thoughts of sending her to a more serious school in Europe is that if she is so busy for months working on class projects on her own, she would have less time to video chat with daddy or mummy and naturally the bond will be fading. Out of sight is mostly out of mind, with minimal communication. Maturity is now.

As you have emphasized, we shall have a few rounds of talk on this before August/September when she will be resuming in the faraway school.

For u to have created this thread clearly shows something is running through your mind....create some distance bro

That bolded part came into the essay for thoughts like yours.
I created the thread because I think it's a bit strange and abnormal. Almost everybody I asked said they never saw a thing like that. Sometimes her displays get me embarrassed as well.

I appreciate the comments ladies and gentlemen. There's an update I have included as the first reply to the post in a space i reserved before i was suspended.

I would most likely be sending my daughter away to face more life challenges, probably start a relationship and rediscover a new future. I have not been able to find a way to discuss with her about this attachment, her mother did a few times but she seems to take it not seriously.

reserved . . . Sadly, posted on April 01, 2019 22:54hrs

For a reason I cannot phantom, Nairaland stopped me from making comments or continuing the rest of the situation last night. I am kind of unhappy that I couldn't keep up with comments as they came due to this unexplained temporary suspension.

Let me put up the remaining information I typed last night.

=================

She is sexually aware

She can have decent conversation about sex in the presence of me and wife but frowns on the boys when the raise sex-related questions. Once I heard her telling the mother of her friend who had sex without condom and panicked over delayed menstruation. Last year she causally suggested that she was a virgin.

Meanwhile I haven’t seen her with a boy. Her friends trooping house often are girls, so I wondered if she’s into lesbianism. Sometime in January, my cousin sister visited and they were sleeping in the same room. One night I saw her sleeping in the sitting room, later on she told me she ran out of the room as the girl-cousin behaved strange at night. That she suspects lesbianism in her and how she is irritated by that.
She had seen me carrying a girl in the outskirts of town. I don’t know what on earth she was doing in that axis of town. She said she went to certain market to find special beans (type of akidi) for some kind of native Nsukka food. Okay o! Later on she warned me (jokingly) to be careful with all these girls in order not to carry STDs to her mother.

I am touching on all these as they made me rule out lesbianism or lack of sex education. It’s just a strong bond built over time. Also remember that when I took her in 2005, two of us lived for up to 3 years before I got married to the mother.

The Way Forward

Sometimes I wish she was boy that will not leave someday. She is always ahead of her age mates. The sons are still following their mother up and down.
I plan to send her away somehow.

I have repeatedly looked at her departmental syllabuses and a lot of things there are ancient, far behind what the world needs today. So, I had decided to send her to France to continue studies for three reasons. 1. For higher quality education. 2. To perfect her multilingualism, thereby fitting into the current global realities. 3. To create the long awaited detachment from me. But her mother rejects this idea totally, considering that I will be going for further studies in a few months’ time. She’s of the view that all the backbone of the house can’t leave her like that with the two boys, and I am of the view that they can as well come with me. Putting her job on leave of absence.

So that is my plan for now. The girl in question doesn’t really have issues with the switch. She can always come to see me as I will be in another European country.

From all the suggestions I got here, I will enforce this plan and I’ll be a bit firm to ensure she doesn’t always come around. With this she can, maybe, start a relationship, reaffirm her independence and focus more on her future.

Appreciation:

I am very grateful for all your comments and suggestions. They really opened my eyes to different angles of this situation. Be rest assured it will be a win-win outcome and I will endeavor to give an update in the next one year or a little more than that.

And . . . for sacajawea and Mizwisdom

sacajawea:
Long story Short you are Sexually Attracted to your Daughter
and
Mizwisdom:
OP, you're strange, you don't sound like a father rather you sound like a predator. If you rape your daughter you will suffer the consequence.

You make me laugh. You don’t know who you’re talking about.
Family / My Adult Daughter Is Too Close To Me. Is It Normal, Appropriate? by DPRmoniker: 8:36pm On Mar 31, 2019
If you are not able to read all the story, the bottom-line is that my 18-year old daughter is so attached to me that she can change clothes before me or sleep on same bed with me and feel no shyness. How best can I create a loving distance between us? I want to do this . . .

The details . . .

Preamble

It was late 1999 and I was in 4th year, studying engineering in University of Nigeria Nsukka. Shortly before my internship, I got my then girlfriend pregnant. A 2nd year student of Mass Communication, Obioma. She was young, beautiful, quiet, harmless, innocent (looking) and active catholic. I felt bad (the worst feeling of my life so far), not because I got someone pregnant but because of what she will pass through. Insults/embarrassment/shame in class, church and family, studies and exams, she will just be looked at like the worst person. She opted to abort the baby and I refused. Even though they frowned at the pregnancy, my parents, staunch Catholics, didn’t go hard on anyone and always made it clear they are willing to take the child if we deem it unwanted.

To cut the story short, after nursing the baby (a girl) briefly my mother took over. I am from Nsukka (the university town) and my mother was a teacher then (now retired). As a student, I was on a couple of scholarships and did a lucrative GCE/JAMB lessons and exam runs. So money wasn’t such a challenge. Student-turned-baby mama went to see her child from time to time, and didn’t appear to have forgiven me for what she went through in the course of the pregnancy (mostly the stigma and poor academic performance). Remember we are talking about 1999 here and not 2019 (so if not for anything, there has not been a Facebook. lol). I was giving her a weird consolation of how it is good to give birth early and how what people think don’t really matter. By the way, she was like 17-18 years at the time, from Asaba. Myself around 21 years then.

Fast-forward to 2005/6, I have taken my daughter, 5, and been working in Port Harcourt. For my personal nature and level of thoroughness, I believe she’d be better raised under my nose. In 2008, I got married to the same Obioma after almost a decade of on-off relationship. It appeared we understood ourselves inside-out and can’t just do without each other even though we are not the best of lovers.

Current Situation and the Challenge

Now approaching 18, our daughter is in the University. She took a lot from me ranging from physical features and strength to mental reasoning. Perhaps owing to circumstances of her early years, she has strong leadership qualities and some level of independence with sense of humour. Her gap to the following sibling (a boy) is 8 years. She supervises everything in the house – from the house keys to the car keys, from the cooking gas level to generator servicing, from the fire extinguishers to the electric bulbs, from foodstuffs to menu, etc. She is practically in charge when I’m not around and has express authority to punish or otherwise the two boys following her. Some say I have given her so much power that may affect her relationship or marital life but that is not my worry, for now. She stayed in the dormitory for secondary school but goes to the Uni from home. We no longer stay in PH anyway.

Here are my worries. When her mother is not around, she would so love to come and sleep on our bed with me. Amid all the resistance, she succeeds at times. She had excitedly said it before some visitors and I felt very embarrassed. This girl can wear anything and sit anyhow in my presence but a very sharp contrast when a non-family member is present. Recently, she was chasing around the last born tying only towel, the towel dropped in front of us. She did not hurry up to cover up even as she had no underwear inside. Then her mother stood to give her a slap and she challenged “that no other person is here”. She sits on my body like there’s no tomorrow and presses all parts of her body on me with no reservations. She is just that free. I have never seen anything like this before. Initially, I believed that as she matures she will be withdrawing but no way. We are actually very close that at times during holidays she just takes fun in coming to the office at closing hours for us to go back home together (some 6km away). Virtually everyone that knows me knows her. A striking resemblance is there too.

I know that even on gunpoint with the devil, I cannot harbor sexual thoughts on my daughter or sister. I am not that religious anyway, but I feel there should be some distance. Others have also indicated that she may use me as benchmark when choosing husband and it will be wrong if not corrected now.

to continue shortly . . .

I have tried to come in for few days now but had password issues.

Personally, I detest injustice and I’m an anti-corruption advocate. Let me first of all sympathize with those that put in sincere efforts to get this job, eventually got it on paper but have been (or would be) replaced by others who are connected. It pains me and I have to tell you this.

Meet anybody you know – friends, former/present DPR high ranking staff, minister, senator/HOR member, governor, etc – to establish if you are selected and to ensure your letter does not disappear. ‘Influential’ people continue to flood/pressure DPR with their candidates’ details. Some would have their way and names probably swapped. If you have nobody, unfortunately you may resort to prayers (if that works anyway) and hope to be among the merit names that would remain at the end of this recruitment bazaar. For whatever reason, they are just reluctant to push out all remaining letters to candidates.

This is a recruitment that was designed with superb matrix to pick the best, but sadly this is what it has degenerated into. Admitted, it is not easy to ignore politicians (who appointed you and cover you), relatives/former staff (whom you may be loyal to) or staff union, but then I NEVER expected it to end up this way. However, I am not saying that nobody it on merit.

For those regretting not going to press or social media to agitate, that is good but the follow up questions would be what evidence you have. Nairaland posts? What evidence do you have that more merit names on the list are not receiving offer letters? How did you know that many employed candidates did not merit it? What are you protesting for, by the way? Did you see anyone’s name? Do you just wake up and accuse them of malpractice?
Only with the initial/comprehensive list can you answer these but they are a smart bunch as well. They covered the tracks cleverly and any lawful body that can question them has been offered some slots, thereby compromising them. Even some relatives of some ‘big men’ who just finished master’s degree abroad last May/June have been smuggled into the process with fabricated test and interview scores. A pity!

The message is, act fast if you can! However, you must know that even if it’s 100% on merit, not everybody will get the job but let there be transparency, openness and fairness. Good luck to you all! Also consider that DPR may not even be what you need after all.

Pls don’t send me PM because that mail cannot be accessed.

I laughed hard when I saw someone claiming that only the OND candidates' results have come to DPR. What a lie! Pls be wary of so-called reliable informants, there have been a lot of them here. Some even said candidates should ignore the portal profile approval while others said PENGASSAN now has more info about DPR recruitment. All had various levels of FALSE information. Be aware that up to 90% of DPR staff don't have a clue about this recruitment and those that have info are not necessarily those that come to type it on Nairaland with excitement.

Just quoting from 29th August, about a month ago . . .

DPRmoniker:
Seeing the test score wasn't really a big deal for a few that have friends or family working with the consultant (Snapnet or so). The thing is that such a few wouldn't come to online forums and be screaming with such excitement. Therefore, that poster didn't get to know any test score.

To the DPR thing and next stage criteria:

1. Snapnet have submitted the results ranked according to states of origin, according to discipline applied for, and according to category (EH or GT) in both hard copies and soft copies. That was done weeks ago, under supervision of DPR representatives.

2. Selection for the next stage is not just that straightforward. An applicant for 'chemical engineer' position from Akwa Ibom State may have scored 49 but will not be selected because some chemical engineers from other states scored higher and meet other 'fit-for-purpose' attributes, instead a candidate for 'biochemist' position who scored 45 from the same Akwa Ibom will make the list because he/she scored more that some other Biochemists from other states. I hope this is clear enough. This is just an example.

3: 'Fit-for-purpose' attributes: Let's use two candidates for the illustration. (i) Candidate A, a fresh Mech Engr graduate of 2015, scored 48%; (ii) Candidate B, Mech. Engr., 4 years experience in inspection/pipeline, 2 professional certifications, score 46%.
Even though candidate A is higher in Snapnet ranking, candidate B will make list before A. This is because the experience exactly matches DPR functions. Professional certifications and postgraduate degrees are advantage (they still have all those profiles/CVs). Again, this is an example.

4. Females must make up a certain percentage (both in the next stage and the eventual employment).

5. Even DPR may not be sure of when they will call successful candidates for the next stage. It's a government agency with their bureaucratic processes and procedures, so don't be surprised that the HR Director cannot categorically say when the next step will commence. Files must be passed and minuted on, and approvals must be made.

bro, please do you think the process will be concluded before November? I'm asking for a very important reason..

Also, I find it weird that most management staff will be on leave. won't the organization be on hold itself. An organization like DPR? well me no know and finally, is it DPR staff conducting this recruitment or snapnet guys. if its snapnet, wetin concern the management staff na.

Anyways thanks for informing us

Even if they call for the next stage tomorrow (which is not going to happen), the process will not be concluded before November 2017. Use your best judgement to make your decision.

Maybe we should just move the thread to 'Religion' section, so that we can litter the whole place with prophetic declarations, amen, praises and worship. Miraculously DPR will then employ everybody (tens of thousands of candidates) to work at the national stadium.

Fact is: everybody will not move to the next stage. And whenever the next stage comes, only about 10-16% of those called would eventually get offer.

Meanwhile, candidates should please note that this recruitment process will not be over by the end of October. In fact, applicants should be happy if the next stage (interviews or whatever) is conducted before October ending.

Anyway, if you had up to 4.0/5 CGPA or close to that, try and send me a P.M. Something could be worked out for France, Switzerland or Germany (those are the places I'm familiar with). But I cannot guarantee for this session starting September/October 2017 because it's too close already.

In the meantime, www.daad.de and www.campusfrance.org have a range of study/funding options that you could explore.

Guys stop wasting ur time on this score ish. If you like score 100%, this recruitment is based on federal charachter. Every state have their slots based on quota system, if for instance 10 candidates are to be recruited from lagos state and 20 candidates out of let say 1000 candidates from lagos state score 100% marks. They will still look for other ways to employ those 10 candidates based on character system like local govt area, area of specialization e.t.c. stop decieving urself with exam scores, just pray that you be favoured by quota system. Many people will get the job, the intelligent, the dull, the lucky, and the favoured. I was just laffing at those who shared exam questions here. You might have strong 2-1 and pass the exam with flying colours and still someone from gombe state with 2-2 and scoring 20% in the exam get the job ahead of you, Thats the bitter truth. This is not a company job where the recruitment is solely on merit, this is federal govt job and federal charachter must come to play.

Yeah, that's true . . . though Gombe people may not find your post funny.

The profiles now do not have local govt of origin, except someone that put it in his/her CV (and only the EH have their CVs on board).
Meanwhile, Elect/Elect Engr'g dominate in the list by simple majority anyway. I don't know why but it may not be unconnected with the roles within DPR.

How can you select 2000 from one state and select 300 from another for the same test? No allow people hear you o!

For example of how this kind of shortlisting is done, check Nigerian Navy shortlist . . . 115 flat for all states (http://joinnigeriannavy.com/Content/INTERVIEW-LIST-2017.pdf). Not exactly with likes of DPR but 2400 vs 300 is out of equation.

I can't remember saying anything like passing the test. In things like this, there is no specific pass mark for everybody. For instance, if they want 40 candidates per state for the next stage, they will select about the top 40, even if they scored 25% (this is just an example pls).

While not alluding that the 'update' is genuine, there was manual input to the marking of the test due to questions without answers and also due to errors in some of the questions. You wouldn't penalize someone for a question that is incomplete or that has errors.

Based on the public notice released by DPR today, The following could be said:

1. Those hoping and praying that the recruitment process be cancelled because of ordinary letter can now go to sleep or rest in peace.

2. I cannot vividly recall CBN and FIRS releasing such statement when it was alleged that they are doing backdoor recruitment.

3. From paragraph 3 of the notice . . . "rigorous and competitive" . . . hmmm what are they up to this time? I trust DPR and #IStandWithDPR based on previous recruitment history. Even though NNPC, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, etc do not show candidates their test scores, if DPR can show theirs, candidates will be glad.

4. From paragraph 5 (last one), ". . . the outcome and subsequent stages of the exercise", I suspect there is more than one stage remaining. There might be something else before the oral interview. Could they be considering assessment centres or second test?

5. For those trying to force it down on others that the process has been hijacked and everybody hoping to get it by merit is wasting time; if you are convinced that the final list is already prepared through backdoor, then, why are you here on this thread? Why not go to the Access Bank ATMs in Unilag and watch movies? I heard they are showing por.n videos there. It is massive hypocrisy to force it on others that it's strictly a connection thing, yet you are hanging around here. Comot make those wey believe continue!

The list of candidates from chief whip is already trending on twitter. You know what next? They might cancel the recruitment process and they can now peacefully fill all the positions with candidates they like. Nigerians never learn, cant we just accept that recruitment process can never be 100% based on merit? Soon the 20 to 30% that get on merit will no longer be. All those who think leaking that list will change anything about how Nigeria does her recruitment is just a big fool. If it will only make the cabals more cautious next time that is if they advertise anything like this again.

Merely receiving a letter wouldn't amount to cancelling a recruitment process. After all, if it's cancelled and re-advertised, people will still send lists. I wonder why you are too scared, even if DPR says it won't recruit again till 2050, is life tied to DPR?

I continue to say, sending lists are not the issue, what is done with the lists is what matters.

Got this from a fairly reliable source. Please DON'T quote me.
The ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND people were shortlisted for the exam to fill about 750 positions. 500 to be recruited by the end of 2017, 250 by 2018 on the expectation that 40% of its work force would be due for retirement or would have retired in 3 years time.

Leave that your fairly unreliable information first.
1. Please, I will quote you
2. Not even up to 50,000 candidates were shortlisted for the aptitude test.
3. DPR is not taking 750.

Let's leave the 'reliable source' thing. We've had many of them already, in fact, the chief reliable informants told us to ignore whatever we see on the portal profile as manual shortlisting was ongoing and would be used to send invites . . grin grin grin

There is no point making too much noise about this. If someone is convinced that the positions are already taken by politicians, then why wasting your time on this thread?

Let's face it with little common sense. . .
Number of senators in Nigeria = 109; let's say each person brings one candidate = 109
Number of members of House of Reps = 360; each person brings one candidate = 360
Number of State Governors = 36 ; as a governor concern, maybe two candidates per governor = 72
Let's say 10 ministers have candidates as well = 10
Presidency list may have 10 candidates = 10
Osibanjo list may be 5 candidates = 5
Ministry of Petroleum and DPR ogas may have up to 10 candidates = 10

109 + 360 + 72 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 10 = 576 candidates (now only one Chief whip don send 5 abi 6 names, ok o!)

576 candidates recommended, abeg how many people DPR wan take? Certainly less than 400.

This is what is known:
1. In the last recruitment, DPR took 250 persons (with over 80% on merit)
2. NNPC and DPR have never done this kind of recruitment with merit less than 50% (if you have a friend or relative, as them how their set was recruited. if you don't have anyone, read about it).
3. This is not NCC, FIRS, CBN, DSS, PTDF and the likes. This is DPR, and more so under Ibe Kachikwu.
4. There are heaps of 'recommendations' or 'lists' since the application stage of this recruitment. They are just what they are, 'heaps of letters'.
5. Whether you are discouraged or not is immaterial. When the next stage comes, successful candidates would be called and the process continues to progress until when DHL and UPS start to deliver offer letters. A few will get, many will not get.
End!

dayjahvoo:
Where are all those naive fools who said buhari and osibanjo do not allow back-door recruitments?

If you circulate this pic and the people on it are disqualified, what do you plan to do about all the other lists from even more influential people?

I have already addressed naive fools so don't tell me that seeing this list will make the whole process transparent.

Mumu-ness get levels o! So because you saw a recommendation list by a whip, that means the recruitment has been concluded through backdoor. Lol. Submitting list is not the issue, what is done with your list is what matters.

MrKong:

They shouldn't bother my sister, it can never be successful

MrKong has been emphatically and repeatedly telling guys that this 'pending submission' is as good as rejected but some people no just gree. Thousands of people have written tests already, what again is DPR looking for that it cannot find from already tested candidates?
