dalyricist: Nigeria is a fascinating destination, blessed with amazing cities and towns. Most of these cities and towns are known across the country for their fascinating attractions, beautiful scenery, natural resources and cultural heritage. Abuja, the capital city is one of the most loved cities in the country. There are other major cities in Nigeria which are very much loved and visited. Some are loved for their homeliness and hospitable demeanour, others are for their economic and business advantages; yet more are loved for their availability of fun, tourism and vacation spots. We’ve scouted about, dug around and browsed the Internet for recommendations from Nigerians, and tourists, and we still came up with a definitive list of the most loved cities in Nigeria. Therefore, in no particular order, here are the most loved cities in Nigeria to visit:
1. Ibadan.... It’s also called the ‘ancient city’ and it’s the state capital of Oyo. It’s described as the biggest city in the whole of West Africa. Located in the south-western part of Nigeria it is densely populated with so many industrial and commercial activities. This city has the first advance learning institution – the University of Ibadan (formally the university college Ibadan), also the first sky scrapper (Cocoa house) and the first teaching hospital in Africa. The city is made up of interwoven streets with local and international markets and malls. This city is known for tourism too, with a remarkable museum in the African study institution, botanical and Zoological garden in Agodi and in the University of Ibadan respectively, Mapo colonial city hall. Life in this town is beautiful with diversity of lifestyle and culture.
2. Abuja
Nigeria’s Federal capital, Abuja is currently one of the most developed cities in the country. Little wonder it is loved and experiencing alarming levels of immigration. Abuja is Nigeria’s seat of power and it is believed that in Abuja, life is good. Whether rich, middle class or poor, there somehow is a place for all. It is also considered a highly business destination. While in Abuja, experience a different kind of sightseeing that will make your visit memorable. Places like Jabi Lake, Silverbird Cinema and Millennium Park are really cool spots to unwind and have fun. For folks who love to shop, some of the big shopping stores in Abuja will give you value for your money.
3. Jos ‘J town’ as it is popularly called is one of the “cool” and most loved cities in the northern region of Nigeria. Aside from its recent crisis, the city is a lot of fun and people love it particularly for the weather and serene environment. The southern part of Jos is said to be peaceful and the people there are really accommodating. What’s more? The standard of living in Jos is very affordable. It also boasts a number of attractions including two museums, a wildlife park and game reserve, breathtaking waterfalls and striking hills and rocks. Jos is a beautiful town and is a really nice place to raise a family or live.
4. Calabar Located in South-eastern Nigeria and watered by the Great Kwa and Calabar rivers, the city is home to a variety of attractions such as Obudu Cattle Ranch and Tinapa Resort. The city attracts visitors with its array of tasty delicacies, beautiful architecture and festivals. Every year, Calabar hosts Africa’s biggest street party known as the Calabar Carnival, where diverse colourful cultural costumes are displayed. There’s never a dull moment in this carnival. For indigenous vacation in Nigeria, Calabar is often the first location that comes to people’s mind. The city boasts of several other attractions including an integrated sports complex, a free trade zone and Port and an international air and sea port among many others.

okosodo: I wish. He is a fulani man and he will do what fulani does to the ibos, marginalise, hate and punish them. Anyways, ge will earn my respect if he proves me wrong, which is totally impossible sha I am an igbo bit if you check my pre-election posts you'll see I massively campaigned and voted for GMB, many of my brethren didn't vote for him but it's their choice and I have nothing against them, but why is it that other Nigerians hate the igbos this much? Why? What did they really do to deserve it like that? Igbos are not violent people they just prefer to mind their businesses and make a living but still Nigerians hate the this much especially people from South west, is it a crime to successful? The igbos are not good with politics we all know and that's why they hardly produce a good candidate, South west and the North have been handling presidency and we did not try to interfere or complain bitterly but still other tribes hate us, It's OK, but we should be careful what we do and who we hate because nobody knows tomorrow. and curse not whom the Lord has not cursed, to avoid getting your self cursed. |

Politics › Nigeria Borrows To Pay Salaries With Cash Crunch Worsening by driand(op): 5:32pm On May 06, 2015 |
A cash shortage caused by low oil prices has forced Nigeria to borrow heavily through the early part of 2015, with the government struggling to pay public workers, officials said Wednesday. "We have serious challenges. Things have been tough since the beginning of the year and they are likely to remain so till the end of the year," said Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Nigeria, Africa's top economy and largest oil producer, has been hammered by the 50 percent fall in oil prices, with crude sales accounting for more than 70 percent of government revenue. "As it stands today, most states of the federation have not been able to pay salaries and even the federal government has not paid (April) salary and that is very worrisome," said Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha. Okonjo-Iweala said the federal government had a projected borrowing allowance for 2015 of 882 billion naira ($4.4 billion). But 473 billion naira had already been used up to meet recurrent expenditures, including public worker salaries. "We have front-loaded the borrowing programme to manage the cash crunch in the economy," the minister told reporters. While Okonjo-Iweala said the severity of Nigeria's cash crunch requires daily management, the problem will almost certainly be off her desk in less than a month. President-elect Muhammadu Buhari will be sworn in on May 29 and is not expected to retain any of the key ministers appointed by outgoing president Goodluck Jonathan. Government critics have alleged that Nigeria's revenue crisis was compounded by excessive and wasteful political spending through last month's general elections. Leaders of Buhari's party All Progressives Congress (APC) warned that the incoming administration will be confronted with serious economic headwinds after taking office. Okonjo-Iweala said Nigeria was still projected to grow at 4.8 percent this year and was therefore "doing much better than many other oil producing countries," similarly hit by the collapse in crude prices. But, as Jonathan leaves office with the government coffers in tatters, observers will likely note his administration's persistent failure to save for a rainy day. Nigeria typically sets its benchmark crude price between 75 and 80 dollars, and is supposed to deposit excess revenue in a savings account. But even when crude was selling above $100 last year, Jonathan's administration struggled to build savings. Critics say the excess crude account has been repeatedly raided by powerful political actors. http://blink.htcsense.com/web/articleweb.aspx?regionid=3&articleid=41326933 |
