NL1960: Please i need some advise here. I have a 16year old relation who got 65 aggregate for Uniben Medicine. She is from Edo.
Iam looking at some options for her.
(1) Retake JAMB next year.
(2) Take any 4year science course and try to switch to Medicine in 200Lvl. What 4year science will be appropriate for this?.
(3) If (2) is not possible, complete the 4year course and use it to gain entry to 200Lvl Medicine.
Please urgent replies are needed as she has been crying as the PUTME result was a great shock. There was total chaos in Uniben PUTME this year especially for those that wrote on the first day. Some students even fainted. Honestly sorry for her plight. Actually (1) is the best option for her IMO. For (2), no no no! You don't get to switch to Medicine in 200l here in UNIBEN (I'm a med student there). Don't let anyone deceive you. (3) possible, if she wouldn't give up along the line. But still slim chances. For UnibenMED, your surest bet is through UTME though. I learnt the North's been ruled out. I understand her parents perfectly. But if she'd want to go with route (1), and for UNIBEN again, there are very good lecture houses here in Benin (eg Gifted Hands) with tested proofs and great results that she can attend. If she can't stay for both UTME and PUTME, no problem. I believe she can get just about the same Utme score, and even better. Once she does that, let her not waste time but start preparing for the Putme, and a best way for that would be attending a good lecture house here. The choice is hers though. I must also let you know that Unilag isn't any easier than Uniben. I wish her all the best! |

Clinton39: Thank you very much Doc.
As soon as my exam ends, I’ll start reading. Of course, I’m a big fan of your videos. I’ll start digesting then one by one. May God grant us all Success. Smiles... Enjoy your break oo. This is the single long break you'll get. When you start proper, you'll wish for breaks and you won't get them. Just take things in their stroll, play well and read small. Just start with gross, familiarise yourself with those introductory terminologies. Maybe 2hrs a day. But Enjoy your break my brother. E get y!😂 |

TONYE001: Hi Medics,
It's been a very long walk for me. I recall when I first found this thread, it was when I was looking for admission into medschool. I once wrote then that I'd be back here one day to share my testimony. Today is that day. As of yesterday, I qualified as a medical doctor.
The past seven years have really been interesting. I was supposed to finish medschool in 5 years as I was a DE student. But Nigeria happened to me, I got two more years even though I did not repeat any class. But here I am today celebrating success.
I thank you all for all you do here. I thank the creator of this thread (Chief Lagusta). I thank the posters. I thank those that ensured this page didn't die. This thread helped me, it helped many before me, and it will help many after me. I've just concluded my medschool diary, if interested, you may want to read through it.
For all those still in the training, and for those still trying to get in, I wish you all success. It's possible, just continue trying.
Best wishes, friends. Have a great evening.
Dr. Tonye001. Congratulations chief🎊. You're a huge inspiration to upcoming medics. You ran the race and got to the finish line successfully. Keep being awesome boss. Reading your diary was always something I looked forward to.. |

Drchindo: Yea in UNN strike are only affecting preclinical... Since the strike unn has inducted 021 class ND 022 class are starting there 4th MB next month Na this thing dey vex me pass. I never knew clinical students to be affected by ASUU strike. But this one is different. It seems it's only UNN amongst Federal schools that has allowed her clinical students to remain in school (sometimes I see my set in their school wearing scrubs and I neva even write MB ).At least after the strike is over, the juniors will be able to catch up with their 'speed of light' calendar. This is why UNN has continued to ensure her medical degree duration doesn't exceed 6yrs or with recent times, plus some months. I don't know what the other schools are doing oo and this is going to affect us seriously. For my school Uniben, like this like this, 8 yrs don sure for us. Same UNN class 022' in my school still dey final year. At least they should have allowed them to just graduate as they are almost done. Cos one thing I know about med school is that the progress of your seniors, duration-wise determines the progress of the classes below. I'm just fed up bayi! |

As for you, I 100% think you should change(especially considering your score). Forget about love of school. Medicine is the SAME everywhere as long as it has been accredited by MDCN and NUC. No one will ask you where you graduated from. Finally, May God guide and direct your choice. God bless you. Good luck on your decision bro. Wish you the best. |

Rursh: .
2 THINGS are involved. Either to accept the admission or you decline it. From your posts that I have read so far, you have no penchant for Nursing and in view of that earlier been said, I would rather advise you decline the offer. With your UTME score, shoot your shot well for post UTME (Plan A). Plan very well to attend a good jamb tutorial centre for 2023 UTME (Plan B) or undergo your university of choice remedial/pre-degree/basic program (which offers you dual chances of admission) and possibly learn some skills/entrepreneur(if it would be convenient) while you study and wait if possible. I 100% second this. @SF123, as long as it's not a B.Sc Nursing degree, do not go for it. You just might end up wasting your parents' money on what you have no penchant for. Do as Rursh said. Sometimes being patient pays off in the later end. If you start preparing for next year's utme now, you have more than ample time to correct your previous mistakes. If you feel you can't study on your own, look out for a good jamb tutorial centre. Never underestimate the power of attending a good tutorial centre with proof of annual turnout of excellent jamb results. You could also learn a skill as he suggested. |

Clinton39: Guys, Am considering changing from UNIPORT to RSU. Your advice/opinion is appreciated You have to look at your options bro. Seems like you're beginning to grow cold feet concerning UNIPORT. I don't really know much about their PUTME, but if you're certain you can ace it, why don't you give it a try? Just believe in yourself and start earnest prepping soonest. If I recall rightly, you had 300+, all you need to aim for is 85 and you're in. On RSU, if you have no issues with paying their school fees which I suppose should be more expensive than UNIPORT's, no qualms then. At this point, I guess you've got to make the decision. My advice is: sit for UNIPORT's PUTME first if it comes earlier than RSU's, and pray it does. Aim for the best, solve their PQs and link up with other aspirants and seniors (Donpre and Chukwukapromise are in already). I understand some scary talks and 'what ifs' are beginning to get to you (been there before). But just give UNIPORT all your shots and get in. RSU or some other school could be a plan B if otherwise happens and I pray it won't. Finally, commit it all to God. Tell Him to crown your efforts with success. Believe deep down that He owns your school of choice and He definitely cannot fail to pave way for His own son. Dunno if you're following, I don't mean to preach to you. There sure is enough time to prepare adequately for the PUTME. Please play your part and you will have the last laugh Just my piece of advice to a brother in need. ~Impossibility is Nothing |

Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by DrImmaculate(m): 4:11pm On Oct 30, 2021 |
Mandeyy: The news is on Nairaland here. It's UI that's a second rate medical school, not EBSU, if a slowpoke like you doesn't know that an MDCN-accredited medical school is at par with its mates for the training of medical doctors.
Screenshot where it was rated the number one teaching hospital in West Africa. Just see the problem, I must say it blatantly that you sir, are just feeling inferior. This was your same problem when you were in Dentistry. You said the guy is a jambite, so why waste your time juggling insults and arguments with him. You're far bigger than this. You rightly said that any institution accredited by MDCN is qualified to train efficient doctors, you just should have stopped there. Why dabble into all this mess? I for one know some EBSU medical students and graduates and they're quite great. I cannot begin to argue which med school is better than which. It all boils down to the individual student's input to make him/herself at par with his/her medical counterparts both locally and worldwide. We saw Boss Lomaxx distinguish himself as a medic par excellence here on this thread even though he went to UNIUYO ( prior to knowing him, I couldn't have concluded that UNIUYO was damn good). Same goes for the other schools. EBSU is good, UI is good, abeg make we leave am like that boss.. Med school, let alone the country is just too hard for one to be engaging in all these. I do not mean to insult your personality chief, I just want you to learn to stir from all these arguments that makes the thread's page go lenghty for nothing. The two of you arguing for 2 pages now haven't made any difference.. Pls don't bother coming after me, cos I won't respond. SHALOM ❤️ |
Education › Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by DrImmaculate(m): 3:46pm On Oct 30, 2021 |
Mandeyy: What do you think is in UI that's not in EBSU? Your comment is one of the most senseless comments of 2021. The two medical schools were accredited to train medical students to become qualified medical doctors. So, none is superior to the other.
You should have cautioned your fellow UI student who started the comparison.
Moreover, I have people at UI. So, UI medical school isn't superior to EBSU medical school. It's students like you that make unnecessary comparison. Medical doctors don't do that, because it's what you give out as a medical doctor that determines the stuff you're made of. Hafa Baba? I just don't know why but since I joined this thread, I've been watching you for some time and I've noticed that you always get yourself into unnecessary and baseless arguments coupled with throwing insults.. I'd not be fast to forget that it was the same you, when you were in UNN's Dentistry who will not let the house hear word with your BDS vs MBBS arguments, but since you got into EBSU MBBS, you no longer go into the BDS arguments. It's just like your presence here is just to get into trivial arguments, and it's totally uncalled for.. Please, we're all mature people here, let's just learn to respect one another and abstain from derailing this thread.. |

I'm telling you this because I used to be in your shoes 10 years ago while doing predegre and then onto physiology. I remember when I started following this thread in 2013/2014 ( a whopping 8 years, wheew!).Then lagusta who formed the thread was a bit still active.( Thunde fire ASUU and covid sha ) Well to cut the long story short. I'm a doctor as I'm typing right now. But here's the deal, there's no other worldly feeling attached to it. You just know that life is a journey and that each stage is merely a platform for a higher achievement. I'm not good when it comes to typing but I just want to say that many of you here will give this testimony in a few years to come. More power to everyone here Congratulations Boss!
