Lille Manager Galtier: Osimhen Fit For Marseille Clash

Lille manager Christophe Galtier has disclosed that Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has recovered from his abductor injury and is fit for Saturday’s Ligue 1 away clash against Olympique Marseille at the Orange Velodrome, Completesports.com reports.

Osimhen sustained the injury in Lille’s 3-0 home win against Girondins Bordeaux last weekend.

The 20-year-old was replaced by former France international forward Loic Remy in the 58th minute.

There were concerns that Osimhen will spend somw time on the sidelines following the injury, but Galtier has hinted that the former Wolfsburg striker is up and running again.

“Victor (Osimhen) is up and running. He has trained well throughout the week,” Galtier told a news conference on Thursday.

The Nigeria international has scored seven goals in 11 league appearances for Lille this season.

He was named Lille player of the month for September and also scooped the best Ligue 1 player award for the same month

I would be careful the way you word that statement with regards to the Americans. Opportunity, talent and a "genuinely" well run honest system based on merit almost always creates immeasurable heights in any endeavour. You may be right that football (or soccer as it is called here), as a culture, is not popular in the United States. However, never assume that the United States does not have the talent as seen in Argentina or Brazil. Stereotypically, soccer is generally viewed as a "white man" sport played by those in affluent neighborhoods ("soccer mom" comes to mind) or by immigrants. This perception is not common with the women for obvious reasons. There are no professional female"American" football or baseball leagues in the United States. Their women dominate basketball and soccer in the world because those sports have professional leagues in the United States. Hence, their girls aspire to become like thier superstar mentors seen in those leagues. On the other hand, a typical "everyday American" boy would rather aspire to become a superstar American footballer, basketballer or baseballer. To them, especially at such a young age, they ascribe success to the prestige and financial remuneration that comes with playing in thier most prevalent sport, and understandably so. I sincerely believe that any time, "Soccer" becomes the predominant sport in the United States, and is seen by their male youths (especially those from economically disadvantaged background) as a means out of poverty, you would see another world dominance, as seen in the other sports.
It's thesame thing we are saying sir. Now ask your self where the culture is more pronouced in Nigeria. Who plays football the most?

Have you heard of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon?

Where are they from? How come dey dominated the game eventhough they are not natives of USA?

This alone has rubbished your ethnocentric believe that a particular group is more talented than others. The only difference is OPPORTUNITY. That's all.
Same way opportunity has made the Brazilians and Argentines produce better footballers than United States right? Oga football is a culture. You only nuture it to improve. You can't compare talents from an area where kids sneak out of school to play football to another that will rather be cramming calculus.

How can it not be trash to an ethnocentric person like you?

It's even glaring in this your comment. Reason being that you think the Northerners occupied the seat of power because of major vote and not necessarily because they are better.

Can you please tell us what is fine about the mind of Zik, Ironsi, Obasanjo and Jonathan when they were given the opportunity to rule?

Did they turn Nigeria to elorado? Don't forget one even betrayed his master to death. Is that one a fine mind?

Like I said earlier, you are an ethnocentric person.
Oga what are you even saying?

Do you mean because the North produced the highest numbers of Nigeria rulers, they are better
rulers than the South?

Is it not the same hypocrites like you that will tag anyone from the North occupying a sensitive position as a product of quota system?

I can see ethnocentrism is worrying you.

Now, let me educate you a little. The main reason those two regions produce most of the footballers today is simply because of the culture that permits their children play football. It's never because they are more talented than other regions whose culture and religion forbids or discourages them from playing football.

Because facts on ground shows that the few that were allowed to play from other regions, later became the best in Africa. Can you debunk this?

If we go by the ratio of number of players produced and numbers of players that became top players, considering the amount of players produced by those two regions your mentioned, they are not the most talented. Facts

However, you will have to agree that recently, some of these regions are allowing their kids play football. It's doesn't mean they are better than players from those regions.

Nevertheless, my submission doesn't in anyway vilify or glorify any group because I still maintain my egalitarian values that all should be given equal opportunity.

If we go by your comment in the bolded, about transparent process of selection.....what transparent process rejected Emmanuel Adebayor from playing for the Nigeria U17? ....what about David Alaba?

Mr, I am not against your view regarding Manu's selection but I am against your ethnocentric view that SE and SS are the most talented people in football in Nigeria. Fat lie.
All what you just wrote is trash sir. Complete trash! It's very laughable that you're bringing in Politics which is election process into this. That itself makes your argument trash because politics is a game of number. Are you telling me that Buhari is the finest mind to rule us when you have the Adesina, Kinsley Moghalu, Osinbajo, and Ezekwesili etc?

Oga talent can come from anywhere.
Did i say otherwise? Talent can come from anywhere but if i want to build a tech company and i need IT gurus in Nigeria be assured that i will most likely pick more Yorubas than any tribe in Nigeria because more of them are interested in it as such I'm guaranteed to find the finest minds there. Does that mean Igbos and Hausas are not good? No! I repeat, there is no way there will be transparent selection process and that list will have 90% Yoruba/Hausa domination. No way!

OMANBALA1:
I didn't want to say this because they will call me a supremacist but there is sense in this.....I am not saying Yoruba and Hausa can't play soccer or haven't produced good soccer players but we all know that the Midwest and the old Eastern region produced like over 80% of the best talents Nigeria ever paraded. I remember when I pointed out that northerners cant play attacking midfield position and they almost lynched me here....lol. But na true...lmao. Let Odua boys play....na one Naija naa until politrics enter...lol

Still it sort of bamboozling how the team is dominated by 90% unknown talents from one region. Assuming they were established players we can verify their inclusion it wont matter. Did Manu visited only Lagos, Ibadan and Kwara ? No single player from Midwest...come on. Did he not hold camp in Warri, Owerri , Aba , Benin,Enugu and Porthacourt ?
That's quite shocking sir. Corruption has been our bane in this country. The selection is obviously flawed. That doesn't mean Hausa and Yoruba can't play football, they can but not to the extent of having a list 90% dominated by then. Lai lai e no fit pure!

The corruption in this team is not tribal. Some people had too much influence in player selection, it was not tribal.

Manu Garba is the same person that produced Iheanacho, Ndidi, Chidi Nwakali and Isaac Success
Yes that's true. I never said the corruption is tribal but i only retaliated that if there was no corruption in the selection process it is impossible to see the list dominated by Yoruba and Hausa names considering the rich football culture of the SE and SS. That doesn't mean there are no good footballers from the west or north.

I'm pleased you understand what exactly my point is. These things don't just add up. I'm sure most people here know this but are just trying to ignore in other not to create ethnic disunity here. Unfortunately the issue is not with tribal bigotry but an obvious corruption in an age grade football selection which is an insult to us. I care less about the team winning. If dem like make dem win 10-0. We need to play good footbal and unearth great talents(which is more important). Else our Super eagles may be starved of quality players in future.

Reading your comment below, it has gone beyond subtle form of discrimination in modern world but an open prejudice which defeats egalitarian values.

It was a point blank/intended attempt to vilify the out-group while you glorify or praise 'another' group else explain what you mean by 'quota system' and 'we all know where football is made in Nigeria'. No, an ethnocentric person like you will see it as normal.

My friend, that comment found you out big time.
let me hear word. There is no discrimination here but just obvious fact. If you were to select a team of basketball players to represent North America in an inter continental competition, where do you think most of the players will be seleted from? USA of course that's because they have a rich history in the game. Same can't be said of football. We all know exactly the region that produces most of the footballers in Nigeria. south east and south south. It's only a surprise to see the list full with yoruba and hausa names and considering the allegations of corruption levied against them before the competition commenced, It's just normal to raise an eyebrow. All of a sudden the south east and south south no long dominate soccer in Nigeria. We all have our strength as a Nation, we should exploit them instead of trying to fix round pegs in square holes. I repeat, if the selection process was transparent there is no way that list will be completely dominated by Yoruba and Hausa names in a game that we have seen the Igbos produce most of the talents. You can call me whatever you wish, that doesn't change a thing. Enjoy!!!

That's the problem with most of you. You fail to comprehend simple post. I'm probably more happy than you about the team winning but that doesn't change my stance. This selection seem flawed. You can't be giving away balls easily like morons without game plan. They just depend on high atletism to wear opponents out. All i see is the "We die here" spirit due to the reputation Nigeria has in this competition which they have to protect. This may not take them far. I hope to see them blend well and make us enjoy alittle of our usual U17 football. Amo is a really good player though!
