Osinbajo gets high presidential survey rating, Tinubu’s group disagrees









A nationwide survey carried out by the Intellectual Forum on Politics and Governance, has shown that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is the preferred candidate to succeed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in 2023.

The survey, which was carried out in February, asked Nigerians to choose their favourite from among Osinbajo; national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former Vice President Abubakar Atiku.

Other politicians who have declared intention to contest for President include former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; River State Governor, Nyesom Wike; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha; Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; former Abia State Governor and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu; among others.

“Analysis of the results clearly indicated that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was the citizens’ choice as the next President of Nigeria,” IFP&G said.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman, Prof Nasiru Yauri; Organising Secretary, Prof. Yahaya Baba; and Member, South East, Prof Ike E. Ogba.

A random sample of 12,000 names from the database of registered voters spread across all the geopolitical zones was used to arrive at the result of the IFP&G poll.

The poll showed that Osinbajo emerged as the favourite by polling 42.50 per cent, almost twice as much as 25.51 per cent polled by second place Atiku.

Kwankwaso came third with 18.07 per cent while 13.92 per cent of respondents selected Tinubu as their preferred presidential hopeful.

“It can be argued that if Bola Tinubu was not one of the selected candidates in this survey, the likelihood is that Prof Yemi Osinbajo would have picked up most of the votes, that is the 13.92 per cent who voted for Bola Tinubu, taking him well over the 50% mark which is enough to win any election going by past record of elections in Nigeria,” the group noted.

Osinbajo emerged as the leading candidate in all the geopolitical zones, and also the preferred aspirant by both males and females as shown in the result of the survey.

“Prof Yemi Osinbajo was clearly the preferred candidate for both males and females nationally, with 41.29 per cent of males selecting him as their choice and 46.38 per cent of females selecting him. This can be compared with 15.16 per cent of the male gender selecting Bola Tinubu and 9.95% of the female gender selecting Bola Tinubu as their preferred candidate for president,” the group said.

The Vice President, according to the group, also led in the South-West, South-East and South-South zones, Kwankwaso led in the North-West while Atiku led in the North-East.

Former Minister of Works and National Chairman, Southwest Agenda for Tinubu 2023 Presidential Ambition, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, questioned the credibility of the group behind the survey.

He said, “I have never heard about the group and I don’t know about their track record and experience in terms of carrying out survey of this nature. So, I will not consider their survey nor will I bother about it.

“I want you to go back and check a lot of election surveys in the past and juxtapose them with the ultimate outcome of the elections, you will see a huge disparity between them.

“This particular group, I don’t know who they are. Nigeria is such a country where some people will wake up one day, find a bogus name for themselves and claim to have conducted surveys that nobody can verify.”

Away from the stupid questions about Tinubu’s wealth and Jimoh Ibrahim, the main issue here is that the serious candidates in the party know the serious contender for presidency. They go to Tinubu because they know he is the one that rightly deserves the presidency and likely to win the election. They don’t go to Oshinbajo or Amaechi or Fayemi. That’s the message here.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has denied endorsing Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the presidency.

OYC National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, warned Tinubu to be careful of maligning the aspiration of the Southeast to produce Nigeria’s president.

Igboayaka warned the APC presidential aspirant to keep his money because OYC would not compromise its stance on Igbo presidency.

He was reacting to reports that a self-acclaimed OYC leader, Miracle Nwosu, endorsed Tinubu’s candidacy for the Presidency.

However, OYC distanced itself from the purported endorsement of Tinubu’s candidacy.

A statement by Igboayaka reads partly: “If Mr. Miracle Nwosu is a man, let him identify who he is, tell us where he’s living, tell us his village if he is a man. We are using this opportunity to warn any politician that wants to use Ohanaeze Youth Council’s name to cajole Ohanaeze Youth Council in the name of endorsing any political presidential aspirants in 2023 that is not from South East Zone.

“It’s better that Tinubu keeps his money because his money cannot change the minds of the Igbo youths thereby compromising this project.

“Mr. Bola Tinubu should be very careful; we are warning Ahmed Bola Tinubu and his presidential team to be very very careful in trying to do anything that will malign the interest of Southeast in the 2023 presidential project.

“The Ohanaeze Youth Council, under the leadership of Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka is 100% determined to actualize the Nigerian president of Southeast extraction by 2023. You are in slumber. Tinubu has already won. There’s no southeast president in NIGERIA, there’s only a Nigerian president. Tinubu does not throw money around. The three most popular candidates are;

Let me start with Tinubu, hmmmm....Tinubu, even tho he's a Muslim and he did well governing Lagos he can not and will not be president simply because he's kinda a corrupt thief and a very old man. The other day when I was talking to my mum about him she was like "wanchan ruɓaɓɓen mutun" which translates to that rotten man? that means she was trying to say he's too old and should not lead Nigeria she also added that let them allow young people to Rule at least.

Now onto Peter obi, the people's man! I personally like this Peter obi guy, his resume is astonishing. he's well educated and a very successful business man. But there some things that are scaring me away from this guy, firstly is that Pandora paper issue, I cannot just over look it. if he made his money illegally by clandestinely setting up and running business abroad including tax and secrecy havens that breached Nigerian laws there is nothing that differentiate him from tinubu. And there is his governorship in anambra state which he did a fair job in, but he didn't really do anything special apart from supporting Innoson and clearing the state from all debts. And another thing is how hes still mute on ipob/esn killing and opressing igbos in SE, its really concerning. the type of guy Nigeria may need but I'm not too sure.

And lastly Ameachi Rotimi Amaechi is a likeable guy. He shoots straight and is a dependable ally to have on your side in a battle. Based on his political antecedents right from when he was a Students Union Leader, Speaker, and Governor, his performance shows that he is a man that can fix the economy and security of the nation they if elected President. But I'm still sceptical about him because Peter obi is obviously more educated than him. But that doesn't necessarily rule him out.


In conclusion, The Fulani people have decided to give the south a try after buhari failed us. But I'm still confused on Peter obi and Ameachi. Right now Ameachi is number 1 but it can still change, we'll have to wait for the primaries first to be very sure.

So Nigerians we haven't yet chosen the next president of Nigeria because we're not sure yet, but in the coming months we, the Fulani people will tell y'all who our next president will be.

So, if you like accuse him of stealing, others have also stolen, and he achieved a lot, assuming he stole, that’s inconsequential by Nigerian standards. Joe Biden is older than Tinubu, so your mother is uninformed about world events. No country will leave their leadership to young inexperienced leaders, at what expense? Those countries having young leaders are on autopilot and they cannot rock the ship of state. The institutions are strong to support them. This is not the case with NIGERIA. You look at Lagos, there is constant development because Tinubu has laid strong foundations and given a template for development. That’s why we want him to do the same for NIGERIA.
