Hi, You can use VirtualDub. I think it can be downloaded for free. The black bars are there as a result of using a different aspect ratio from that with which the video was originally recorded. Keeping them there actually might be a good idea as you probably don't want your videos stretched disproportionately. |

You can train yourself if you have the right equipment and dedication. Alternatively, you can find a photography school to fast track your journey. I highly recommend Twim Studios for your training (should you choose to take this path). I own it, actually. If one Nigerian is arrested in New York for attempted terrorism, it makes sense to trace his house and deport all the other Nigerians in the area, right? I really hope these selected Chadians have been properly investigated and found to be contravening the laws of the land. I would love to believe that that is the case, however from my own experience of the Nigerian police (as a Nigerian), I can be 90 percent sure that they just went around arresting foreigners from these 'lesser developed' countries arbitrarily. For some of them, their only crime might actually be that they are not Nigerians and are not from the West. Sorry to sound disparaging but if you've ever been 'arrested' by our police under the allegation of cybercrime (because you happen to have a laptop and a nice phone without holding the receipt and are unwilling to part with a bribe), you would understand what I'm saying. While taking a short term course in India, there was a time similar treatment was meted out to us (Nigerians who lived in an area popularly occupied by Nigerians). We were subjected to annoying and humiliating police searches. Needless to say, we protested and had it stopped. It taught me one lesson: If we don't like people accusing us worldwide of being terrorists, we shouldn't use terrorism as an excuse to maltreat other people. What if other nations started deporting Nigerians merely because a bomb blast goes off somewhere or the other in our nation every other week (at least, that's the impression many people outside have)? Instead of victimizing these guys unnecessarily, we should tighten our immigration loopholes. We should have real immigration laws that are enforced. There should be effective databases of foreigners living in the country and their purposes for being there at each point in time. Don't tell me it can't work in Nigeria; similar developing countries manage such matters much better than we do. We beg every Tom, Dick and Harry to come in in the name of foreign investment and there is zero monitoring of the actions of these people. We then wake up one day and start deporting the less fortunate of them. I wouldn't expect many people to agree with me. But ill-thought out behaviors like this form the basis for maltreatment of Nigerians in most places (the recent South-Africa episode is a good example). If we don't treat our own people with respect and can't do that to our neighbours, no one outside will respect us. If we catch a terrorist from Chad and our next response is to start deporting Chadians claiming that we suspect that they are 'connected'... what stops the world from doing the same to Nigerians? In summary: deporting ILLEGAL immigrants is not necessarily a bad idea. We just shouldn't do it merely because they are from Chad or Mali. |
kasconi: @pukkahI agree with you, but only to an extent. There is no doubt that GTB has a strong foundation of innovation and effectiveness. I think they brought a new mindset into Nigerian banking. Their internet banking is also very commendable. However, they have not been able to manage their crowds. That for me, is a big turn off. The few times I have to enter the bank (even if to speak with customer service), I often have to wait for more than 30 minutes. Sometimes 1-2 hours! That's annoying! I should however add that if your keyword is reliability, from my angle I would still go with GTB or maybe Zenith Bank. GTB atm cards rarely fail you abroad (that's a very key issue). They don't bring up non-existent charges like some other banks I know of. Their customer service in the bank might be crappy but by phone it is pretty impressive. Also, they have lots of working options available via internet banking. Summary is: the Nigerian banking industry still needs a major upgrade. |
I think it's just the market forces at work. There are some many graduates and so few jobs. So, it makes perfect economic sense to increase the skillset required for the few available jobs. Of ccourse I see it as an unfortunate development. However, we must remember that Dangote is a businessman and not a charity organization. Even if he doesn't request for graduates, you would be surprised at how many graduates would apply to work as drivers, anyway, since they need to put food on their tables. |

blank: Very annoying people. They will be deceiving people with their free deliveries, etc.Lol You can't really blame them, though. They are pioneering (not exactly, but kind of) in the Nigerian market and the logistics are far from being perfect at the moment. Until they have a critical mass of customers, it's going to be very difficult for them to deliver on their promises at the right time. At the same time, it would be very difficult for them to sell if they don't promise the same kind of services provided in more mature markets. So, it's a catch 22 situation. With time (and competition), I think the situation will improve. |
PROUD-IGBO:I really hope it doesn't get to that (the bolded part). If we would stop deceiving ourselves with fake progress reports, we still have all it takes to lead Africa. |
yamakuza: I'm impressed/surprised that vconnect made that list.Yes. Just a little more than a year. Funding played a key role. |
This, for instance, is the comment on Nairaland (Nigeria's second most popular website): Nairaland is a big discussion forum for Nigerians. Popular boards are politics, finance, technology and religion. With almost 900, 000 members, many view Nairaland as Nigeria’s Facebook. Nairaland originally ran on SMF, a free forum Content Management System. It is owned by Seun Osewa, a young Nigerian who resides in Ogun State. Why is Nairaland Popular? Nairaland’s traffic is due partly to many reasons: Interactivity: Being a forum, it allows members to interact with one other. This makes it an interesting place to visit. Content: Nairaland features fresh user submitted content. This is further enhanced by the ‘homepage’ system in which a list of topics of interest is displayed. It helps members to find the most interesting threads fast. Age: Nairaland enjoys the dividends of being one of the first major Nigerian forums. It gained popularity at a time when competition was not so stiff. Mobile: With the new Nairaland template, the mobile version has been improved upon. It is particularly nice to view on a Blackberry phone. Considering that Nigeria has one of the highest percentages of mobile viewers, this is a major advantage. The founder, Seun, has often been criticized for not adapting the forum to changes necessitated by the times. Many have also argued that Nairaland got on social media very late. It should be noted though that a new design has finally been implemented. Also, a few analysts (including me) believe that one of the reasons why Nairaland has lasted so long is Seun’s refusal to make frequent changes. http://kudizone.com/blog/2012/05/18/nigerias-10-most-popular-websites/2/ Do you agree? In the recently released report by the World Economic Forum (WEF)’ 2012 Global Competitiveness on best countries for business, countries like Ghana, Benin, South Africa, Kenya, Sengal and Malawi were ranked higher than Nigeria! http://kudizone.com/blog/2012/04/30/ghana-benin-south-africa-kenya-ethiopia-senegal-beat-nigeria-in-global-business-rating/ But if they (Mr President and the Ministers) say our economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, how can that be if we are not considered competitive even in Africa? Or am I misunderstanding the report? ![]() |
Nice thread. I'm Olumide Adeleye. I run http://kudizone.com which is a platform for the new Nigeria. It features anything that contributes positively to Nigerians. Guest bloggers are welcome. If your post is inspiring, original and well written, I'd be honoured to publish! My personal blog is http://olumideadeleye.com I try to make that an inspiring e-place to visit, although I have occasionally expressed my political ideologies there, too. Also, I run http://080it.com, which is a new blog. The idea is very simple: to create an atmosphere where IT-related questions can be asked and answered. |
At the ongoing South-South summit, the Vice President of Nigeria, Architect Sambo made a remark about how Nigeria’s crude oil had turned out to be more of a distraction. How right he was! Even though this sounds more like moonlight tales, there really was once a time when one Naira was more valuable than a US Dollar. Two Naira exchanged for one British Pound. At that time, Nigeria had just gained independence from the British. Although the years of colonization had done a lot of damage to the psyche of the people of the nation, Nigeria was recovering fast and had reasons to be called the giant of Africa. At that time, she was on the same economic level with (if not ahead of) countries like Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates. Nigeria had discovered crude oil even as at then, but the main part of the nation’s earnings came from agriculture. Nigeria was a producing nation. Those were the good, old days... Sometimes I just wish Nigeria didn't have oil. It has turned out to be more of a curse than a blessing in the hands of our evil politicians. "One day, cars will run on water..." (why oil is not the way forward) |

. The bastards that fought to bring us back into this unholy union, brought us back onboard a sinking ship which they themselves have no passion or love for, or have the know-how and expertise to steer safely to safe and calm waters.
