hello drmingler,welcome to the fam! you haven't actually stated the degree you intend to apply to(Bsc or Msc?). maybe from there we can help you search for your course of choice or related courses. for bsc you need at least your first year transcript, waec or neco, proof of english proficiency test(toefl or ielts) though some schools can accept a proof of english proficiency letter from your university, few require a letter of recommendation and most require motivation letter(this is very important). As for Msc, you need BSc certificate, complete university transcript and all of the docs stated above(for bsc).

winter application(feb- july 15,dates depends on schools) for 2017 is closed, so you should prepare for summer application(sept-jan 15, dates depend on schools) 2018 or winter 2018.

Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, has revealed that the ministry declared a state of emergency in the country’s sports to push Nigerians into taking critical look at the sector with a view to repositioning it.

To achieve the desired success, Dalung enjoined all stakeholders to come together to lift the industry out of the current parlous state.

Speaking after receiving the report of the Godwin Kienka-led National Reform Committee on Sports in Abuja, Dalung reasoned that for the report to be fully implemented, everybody must contribute positively to actualize the dream.

He said: “Part of the reasons we had to declare a state of emergency in sports is to take steps to regain public confidence, which we have lost and this will take us to looking into what we have done in the past and where we didn’t do it well.

“We will also ensure that this report is made public and every stage of implementation is advertised and brought to the knowledge of Nigerians. This will help rekindle public confidence and assure investors that we will no longer do things the way we used to.”

Speaking on the alleged mismanagement of the ministry’s funds, Dalung said, “These are issues that have to do with law and investigation because you must have facts to make allegations of mismanagement.

Locusts, grasshoppers and quelea birds from Niger Republic are finding their way into Nigeria and are attacking farmlands belonging to Nigerians in the North, a development that may cause food crisis in Nigeria.

To address this, the Federal Government on Monday night summoned state commissioners of agriculture from the 12 frontline northern states and other regions to an emergency meeting at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Aside commissioners from the 12 northern states, other representatives from the agricultural sector in states like Anambra, Delta, Benue and a few other southern states attended the meeting.

Some commissioners from the northern states confirmed that the pests were already in Nigeria and were attacking crops in farmlands in their local government areas, as they explained that in Sokoto State, some farmlands had been attacked by quelea birds.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, told the commissioners that if the locusts, grasshoppers and quelea birds from Niger Republic were not checked, Nigeria would face severe food crisis soon.

He said, “Locusts and quelea birds are gathering in large numbers in Niger Republic from where they attack crops in Nigeria. We must stop them, for if they arrive fully, within hours they can wipe out our food. And we know that already there is food scarcity and if we don’t check this, we may have severe food problem.

“So, the reason for this meeting is for us to design a strategy to attack the locusts and see what we can do immediately to make sure that these pests don’t arrive in large numbers. If they do, we may face severe food crisis in Nigeria, which we can’t stand as a nation.”

Ogbeh urged the states to see how they could collaborate with the Federal Government to get aircraft that would be used to attack the pests in the states that were already affected, as well as in Niger Republic.

He noted that the government would partner the government of Niger Republic on this matter, stressing that it was imperative to move quickly as President Muhammadu Buhari had been briefed on the development.

“We should move quickly to see how we can stop this menace. So, please I implore you to come up with ideas on how to check this development as I will forward our ideas to the President for fast action. We must stop this, for you can imagine the effect which this will have on our economy if locusts, grasshoppers and quelea birds wipe out our rice, beans and other crops,” he said.

Ogbeh also stated that the country was waging another war against army worms of maize, as the pest had destroyed maize cultivation in some parts of Nigeria.

He noted that avian flu was attacking birds in some parts of Nigeria, adding that this was why the meeting with state commissioners was important.

Commissioners from the 12 frontline states of Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi were at the meeting, as well as others from a few southern states.

The prediction of flash floods in 26 states of the federation this year has begun to manifest as two local government areas in Niger state have been ravaged by flood in the last three days.
The flood has also led to the death of four people, mostly children, with hundreds displaced from their communities.
The local government areas affected are Gurara where not less than 15 communities were sacked by flood and a bridge linking one of the towns to other parts of the state washed off, and Lapai LGA which is the worse hit with the four dead children and 23 communities displaced.
The flood incidents followed three days of persistent torrential rainfall causing both the rivers Kaduna and Niger to overflow their banks.
Special Adviser to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on Niger East Matters, Mr Pius Wakili, who confirmed the Gurara Local government area incident, said schools, residential houses, churches and mosques and several hectares of farmlands were either partially or totally destroyed as a result of the flood.
Not less than 3000 people, he said, had been displaced as a result of the incident.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, who visited the affected villages in Lapai local government area on Monday, described the incident as ‘disastrous’ and called on the Federal government to come to the assistance of the state in tackling the problem because the financial requirement to tackle the problem ‘is not only enormous but beyond the capability of the state’.
“However as a government, we sympathized with the communities and we will give our support despite our lean resources to reduce the hardship of our people’ he said adding that the State Emergency Management Agency would be mobilized to come to the assistance of the people.

A Senior Pastor and General Overseer of a church in Zimbabwe, Righteous Revival Ministries, Apostle Tawanda Chikeya, is in serious trouble after he was arrested for raping a 16-year-old member of his church in a parked car, H-Metro reports.

The 30-year-old Apostle Chikeya was arrested along with his younger brother, Tapiwa Chikeya, who is suspected to have lured the girl to his brother and locking the garage door and providing a blanket.

Apostle Chiekya and his brother, according to reports, are detained at Marimba Police Station and the case was reported under RRB 2827385.

The church founder was reported to have threatened the girl that he was a member of the Central Intelligence Organization and the girl said he made false prophecies to her, saying she had to undergo a bad luck spell if she refused to have $ex with him.

“Apostle Chikeya prophesied to me that I was going to meet misfortunes if I did not have prayers constantly with him. He invited me for prayers one of the days and took me to Lake Chivero where he asked to have $ex with me and I refused.

He told me that my virginity belongs to him that if I do not marry him, he foresees me getting married to a foreigner who would bring me bad luck.

After I mentioned his marriage, he said he was not satisfied with his wife since she was not a virgin like me when he married her. On the day in question, Apostle Chikeya asked me to come to his house and I found him with his brother Tapiwa.

Tapiwa locked the door from outside and left the room leaving me with Apostle Chikeya and after inquiring why they locked the door, Apostle Chikeya said we would use another door that leads to the garage.

It is at the garage where Apostle Chikeya r*ped me in his parked Honda Fit vehicle and he threatened me saying God would punish me if I reported the case to the police.

He went on to say that he is a member of police criminal investigation department and is connected to lawyers if that case was to be brought before the courts of law,” the victim narrated to H-Metro.

It was a chaotic show of shame at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri on Thursday as soldiers and policemen engaged in gun battle over rice and semo meant for internally displaced persons to mark the Ramadan fast..

The government has since Monday distributed large amounts of rice and Semovita to poor residents.

On Thursday, thousands of people converged at the entrance of the government building in Maiduguri, forming an lengthy queue of men, women and the aged who hoped for either a 25kg bag of rice or Semovita, or both.

As the distribution started, police barred vehicles from accessing the venue, except those on special permission.

At about 11am, a Nigerian Army truck showed up, insisting on gaining access to the venue where rice and Semovita were being shared.


Suspecting that the soldiers were trying to help themselves to the handouts, police officers demanded they turn back immediately.

This led to an argument and an angry soldier allegedly opened fire, injuring a policeman in the leg, witnesses said.

The police responded and gunshots rent the air as thousands gathered scampered for safety.

It took the intervention of other senior security officers to arrest the situation from degenerating.

One of the army officers drafted to help control the crowd, identified only as Idris, a lieutenant, did not go free, as angry policemen who accused him of instigating the crisis, beat him up.

The Lagos State Police arrested a man, 29 year old Ekanem Enodan for allegedly stabbing his friend 46 year old commercial motorcycle operator, Nicolas Goddonu, to death during an argument over paying for a N50 bottle of water at Oke-Ira area, Ogba, Lagos.

According to reports, On June 8, Goddonu, a father of five visited his friend Enodan at his shop in the company of his younger brother. He allegedly went into the shop at about 10:50pm and took a bottle of water which cost N50 without paying for it. Enodan allegedly tried to stop Goddonu from leaving his shop with the water by hitting him on his head with a bottle. Goddonu immediately slumped to the ground.
Enodan, thinking that Goddonu was pretending, walked over him, took back his bottled water and walked back into his shop.

Goddonu’s brother checked on him to make sure he was fine but raised the alarm when he realized his brother wasn’t breathing and was promptly rushed to the Ifako General Hospital, but was confirmed dead on arrival.

However, there were several versions of what really killed Goddonu, while some of them alleged that the Enodan stabbed him to death, others said he only pushed him, which caused him to hit his head on the hard floor.

An eyewitness Ufom Ekanem said:

‘They played a lot’. “The deceased and the suspects were friends. That was not the first time he would collect something from the shop and run away. “But he usually paid later. At times, the shop owner would be chasing the motorcyclist and at other times he would forcefully drag whatever Goddunu collected from his shop. “On that fateful day, the shop owner only pushed the okadaman in the chest, while attempting to collect the bottled water from him. He fell in the process and became unconscious.”

Another eyewitness, Biodun Odufare, said:

“The deceased was from Egun, while the suspect is from Cross River State. At about 11p.m., an argument which everybody concluded was their normal play, began. “But we suspected that the okadaman was drunk. As he was leaving the shop with the bottled water, the shop owner threw an empty bottle of soft drink at him.

“The bottle hit the kiosk and shattered, with one of its broken parts hitting Nicolas in the chest. He fell and was confiremd dead inhospital.” “He fell down and became unconscious. Later, we heard that he died at the hospital.”

The Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, confirmed the incident saying:

“On June 9, at about 1a.m., one Mitchonou Suru, 16, reported at Pen-Cinema Division that at about 10:50p.m. the previous day, one Nicolas Goddonu, 46, was hit with a bottle by one Ekanem Enodan, 29, of Baba Dada Estate, Opic, Ogun State, during a quarrel between them.

“The victim was rushed to Ifako general hospital where he later died. Suspect was arrested and detained while corpse was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.”

An octogenarian, Madam Belawu Jimoh, yesterday, narrated her experience with the man suspected to be a serial rapist and murderer in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The 86 years old woman, who lives in Oke Ota, Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, claimed she was attacked a fortnight ago.
She, however, expressed happiness that her attacker, simply identified as Badoo, was arrested last Sunday after a three-day manhunt.
The suspect, who allegedly r*ped and murdered a 27-year-old school teacher, Grace Jubreel, in her home in the presence of her 14-month-old baby in the Ibeshe community in Ikorodu, was nabbed by residents who would have lynched him if not for the intervention of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, that rescued him.
She was said to have been raped in Oke-Ota on Sunday, June 5, after a trip from her husband’s base in Osun State.
Badoo was sighted by some members of the community, who attacked him, and stormed the palace of the traditional ruler insisting that the suspect be handed over to them by RRS.

I have gone through enough of this spiritual warfare. I’m a 30-year-old widow and my husband died 4 years ago when I was 26 years old. We had just gotten married when he died in a horrific car accident and died on the spot.

I really loved my husband and even up to now, I still love him dearly. He has never changed. He still is exactly like he was before he died. But what I have noticed is that he is not growing older. He still is exactly as he was when he died four years ago.

I don’t even have feelings for any other man. I feel like I’m a married woman. Our sex life has never changed. It’s still as it was before my husband died. But now I’m scared that I’m living with a corpse in the house. Maybe it’s because I’m now going to church. I have also not stayed with anyone in my house since my husband died. I always live alone.

At church, our pastor was once attacked with the demon of another man and the man of God collapsed, then became conscious later on. It’s evident that if I ask him to pray for my husband’s spirit to go away, that would be way beyond his powers.

I’m also afraid of telling my husband that I don?t want to live him with anymore. How do I tell him when he loves me so much? When visitors come to my house during the day, my husband mysteriously disappears and only returns when they are gone.

I have never told anyone about this strange encounter, this is my first time to open up about it. One day he told me that his spirit would depart when I breathe my last. So to him, as long as I?m alive he wants to be with me.

The trio led by 19-year-old Ifeoma Nelly, a 200-level Industrial Chemistry student of Delta state university (DELSU) were arrested at a Lagos Hotel and have been remanded at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters Ikeja, GRA.
Reports have it that they’ve been doing this for over three years. They not only allegedly used Wizkid’s name to open Facebook accounts, but also reportedly used his name to register the phone they use, so whenever someone calls her or she calls someone, Truecaller ID shows Wizkid’s name.

Speaking exclusively with National Helm in a phone chat, Mr Mike through his associate (pastor Kem also in Kano) gave point-to-point details of what transpired on that fateful day.

Her neighbour simply identified as Dauda who is a Muslim came in front of her shop to wash his hands and feet in preparation for his own prayers.

Mummy as fondly called by her church members told him to leave the front of her shop that she wants to lock the door. The man refused and told her to wait till he finishes with what he’s doing. (N.B; Mrs Bridget had been having serious problems with Dauda to the extent that their matter has been reported to the market’s association numerously).

So she persisted that he should leave her shop, instead of complying the man started raining abuses on her saying that he would deal with her in the market. After people started gathering around due to the insults and abuses, the man calmed down and left.

The woman thinking all had ended -went to meet her husband who also has a shop in the same market but different location to report as usual. Both her and her husband went to meet the landlord of her shop one Alhaji Mustapha – a prominent trader in the market which has been their advocate -to table the latest issue at hand.

While they were reporting the case to Mustapha in his shop, Dauda and his reinforced gang gathered and started chanting that the woman must die for blaspheming against prophet Mohammed. The Alhaji pleaded with them to come back in a few days time promising to settle the matter but they vehemently refused and started stoning him. The Alhaji ran for his life leaving the Mr Mike and his wife in his shop…

The woman knowing that her end had come -knelt down and started praying before she was beaten and clubbed to death by the mob right in front of her husband.

Meanwhile, Dauda and his cohorts have been arrested and are currently in Kano State police station.. While Mr Mike has left his base located at Warri road and is currently at an undisclosed hotel in the metropolis over fear of his life.

The main question now is how is it that a 74-year-old woman who had lived in Kano for over 40 years and wife to a senior pastor in Deeper Life – blaspheme against prophet Mohammed when she knows better.

There is no justification for taking a human’s life. This horrific act meted out on an innocent woman in the name of “blasphemy” is totally unacceptable.
Something needs to be done urgently by the authorities to stop this shameless trend.

The deceased was a Mrs. Bridget Patience Agbahime from Orodo town, Mbaitoli LGA in Imo State and married to Mr Mike Agbahime -a senior pastor of Deeper Life Bible Church, Brigade Quarters in Kano state. And for the records, she was beaten and stabbed to death with dangerous weapons.
Speaking exclusively with National Helm in a phone chat, Mr Mike through his associate (pastor Kem also in Kano) gave point-to-point details of what transpired on that fateful day.

The legendary boxer – widely regarded as the best of all time – died with his family at his side on Friday evening, a

day after he was rushed to hospital with difficulty breathing.

‘After a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening,’ Ali’s spokesman said.

Ali’s family said his funeral would be held in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and thanked the public for their outpouring of support.

Ali had been on life support at a hospital outside Phoenix, Arizona, after he was found ‘barely breathing’ at his home on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital with an ‘unshakeable cough’, a separate source said, with his fatal respiratory problems likely to have been complicated by his Parkinson’s disease.

The Greatest was surrounded by his family, who rushed to be at his bedside on Friday after doctors warned his condition was ‘rapidly deteriorating’, a source said.

It was earlier reported that Ali’s family had started making funeral arrangements after doctors warned that he was just hours from death.

Ali’s spokesman Bob Gunnell told MSNBC that the family were ‘devastated’.

‘Muhammad passed with his family at his side just moments ago,’ he said.

‘It was a very peaceful passing and they are with him as we speak. You know, we lost a great person in this world tonight.

‘We don’t have an official cause of death yet, but it has to be from complications of Parkinson’s.’

Gunnell said on Thursday that the boxer was being treated for a respiratory issue at a hospital, which he confirmed again on Friday morning.

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has promised to investigate cases of corruption in refugee camps across the country.
A statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said Mr. Magu made the pledge in Maiduguri while speaking at the newly reopened zonal office of the commission in the state.
The statement quoted the EFCC as saying the commission would focus on ensuring that there was transparency and accountability in the use of resources meant for internally displaced persons in Maiduguri, as well as in other parts of the country.
The statement further said Mr. Magu expressed concern about allegations of corruption taking place in IDP Camps, as claimed by International Humanitarian Organizations and other civil society groups.
“We want to be sure that there is transparency, accountability and judicious use of the money allocated to Internally Displaced Persons in Maiduguri and elsewhere.
“What we are doing is gathering intelligence but the culprits behind the sufferings in the IDP camps will be invited sooner or later by the EFCC,” he said.
According to the statement, the EFCC boss gave indication of the commission’s plans to partner women and civil society activists as part of the fight against corruption in the IDP camps.
“I will bring in civil societies and women groups in Borno state in the fight against corruption and we will equally organize a workshop for them similar to the one we did for children in Abuja, so as to educate them on the ills of corruption, ” Mr. Magu reportedly said.

Glo had the cheapest data plans before MTN decided to review its own pricing plans. Etisalat followed suit but it appears Glo is trying to make sure it continues to hold the title by announcing some ridiculously cheap data plans.

Glo was offering 24GB for only 8,000 before but the same ₦8,000 will now get you a whopping 48GB. Right now, ₦1000 will get you 2GB on the Glo network but MTN offers only 1.5GB for the same amount. Here is a breakdown of all data plans available on the Glo network presently.


One thing is certain, the network quality will suffer a hit as the new data plans have attracted quite a lot of subscribers. Glo has great data plans but one thing a lot of people complain about is the network quality. The 3G speed is sometimes is worse than EDGE in certain areas though this isn’t the same everywhere.

As much as this gesture from Glo is appreciated, something has to be done about the poor network quality in quite a lot of locations. It remains to be seen if MTN, Airtel and Etisalat will further reduce their prices… the competition is still on and the consumers are loving it.

Nigerian troops deployed in Borno State have rescued several abducted persons, arrested suspected Boko Haram terrorists, and recovered weapons and equipment, the army said in a statement.
The troops of 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion, 25 Task Force Brigade on Monday received 79 persons who claimed to have been kept captives by Boko Haram terrorists at Ngwalimiri village but escaped at their location.
They comprised 12 men, 24 women, 31 children and 12 infants. All of them are undergoing preliminary investigation and screening to determine their status before onward movement to Internally Displaced Persons camp for rehabilitation, the statement said.
“In furtherance of the efforts to keep Bitta-Damboa road open and secure to commuters, troops of 28 Task Force Brigade have cleared Bulajani, Mulgwo and Muotu villages of remnants of Boko Haram elements.
“During an encounter at Moutu specifically, a soldier sustained an injury on the forehead, while 5 Boko Haram terrorists were killed by the troops, while a few others were suspected to escape with gun shot wounds. The troops recovered 3 locally made guns.
“The advancing troops linked up with their counterparts of 25 Task Force Brigade at Gombori village and rescued 157 persons escaping from Boko Haram terrorists captivity. The rescued persons comprised 47 women, 91 children, 19 men. They are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and thorough screening to also determine their status.
“In a related development 77 Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered themselves to troops of 122 Task Force Battalion. They comprised 17 men, 16 women, 16 male children and 28 female children. The surrendered terrorists have been moved to Yamteke by combined team of 26 Task Force Brigade for preliminary investigation and screening.
“Troops have also arrested a deserter soldier, 03NA/53/3098 Corporal Musa Titima of 117 Task Force Battalion, attached to 114 Task Force Battalion, who absconded from duty while on Operation CRACKDOWN at Bitta. The soldier was also allegedly involved in a fracas with Mr Salisu Ngatha at Kabang Ward on 30th May 2016 that led to the death of the civilian. The soldier has been moved to the Brigade headquarters for proper investigation and other disciplinary process,” the statement said.
