I want to share with you how
ASUU has prolonged their strike
from 1999 till dates.
Below are the Dates and Duration
of the Strikes from 1999.
1999 - 5 Months Strike
2001 - 3 Months Strike
2002 - 2 weeks
2003 - 6 Months Strike (Ended in

2005 - 3 days Strike
2006 - 1 week Strike

The Academic Staff Union of
Universities has said it is
continuing its nationwide strike on
the advice of university students.
In a telephone interview with
SUNDAY PUNCH, the President of
the union, Dr. Isa Fagge, said
students were tired of the
incessant industrial actions by the
university lecturers due to the
Federal Government's failure to
implement the agreement it had
with ASUU since 2009.
Fagge said the union had decided
to heed the advice of the students
to continue the strike until the
Federal Government fully
implemented the agreement.
"Our students have come out to
say they don't want us to call off
the strike until the Federal
Government answers us, because
they don't want us to call off now
and later we go back to strike
again. So, we are heeding the
advice of our students," he said.
On the complaint by the Federal
Government that it lacked the
funds to implement the agreement,
Fagge said it was not all about
money, noting that government
did not need funds to start
implementing some parts of the
agreement.
"There are issues and agreement
they can implement without
money. Why don't they begin with
those ones?" he asked.
He added that it was unfortunate
that the government had pulled
out of dialogue with ASUU, stating
that the union would not be
intimidated.
He said, "Now, government has
pulled out of the dialogue. We
thought we were the ones going
on strike, but now government has
also gone on strike."
Last Thursday, university students
under the auspices of the National
Association of Nigerian Students
reportedly staged a peaceful
protest in Ado-Ekiti and flayed the
Federal Government for failing to
honour the agreement it had with
ASUU since 2009.
The students, who were from
public universities, threatened to
disrupt activities of private
universities, adding that the
government was not bothered
about their plight because children
of government officials were
studying either in private
universities or studying overseas.
The university lecturers began an
indefinite strike on July 1 and
have been demanding full
implementation of the agreement
ASUU had with the Federal
Government in 2009, which
among other things include the
UNESCO-recommended 26 per
cent budgetary allocation for
education. However, the
government said it could not
implement the agreement, and is
seeking re-negotiation.
The Federal Government, last
Wednesday, accused ASUU of
being unrealistic by continuing its
nationwide strike and asked it to
rethink its demands, considering
other commitments government
has.
The Minister of Information,
Labaran Maku, who gave
government's position on the
strike when he briefed journalists
at the end of the weekly meeting
of the Federal Executive Council,
said apart from security, education
was one of the sectors the
government had expended a lot of

didicold: Get some oil(groundnut or palm), heat until lightly smoking, make sure u remove d meat fromits stock(water used to cook it) but dont pour d stock away o, so d meat can drain a little, drop it in d lightly smoking oil, as much pieces of meat as d pot can contain,dis makes sure d temp of d oil doznt burn d meat fast, turn d meat intermittently for about ten minutes for a light braise on both sides, remove meat from oil den pour in ur freshly blended pepper and meat stock, allow pepper to cook for @ least 30 mins,den taste to know if salt or maggi is needed, add both in pinches till u get ur desired taste,by dis time u can add ur meat so dat it can soften more and soak up stew, den in d next ten minutes u r done,note dat a large volume of pepper takes longer cooking so dat it can lose water and d stew becomes desirably thicker, pls try to check on whatever u r cookin regularly, for d first ten minutes, leave it alone, den later check evri five minutes, i say dis because when i started learnin to cook, i burnt enough food to feed a party of ppl, because of inattentiveness.

For real, one of the most difficult
things a young Nigerian Student
will go through is making the
transition from a secondary
school into the tertiary. Learning
How to Study and getting along
with peers will make the whole
experience that much easier.
Today I will remand my fellow student how to
actually become a good scholar.
It’s been awhile I shared some
senses with students here, and
today is just a perfect day. Having
enjoyed a lovely and fulfilling
weekend, with vigor of a new
month and fresh week, let’s get
talking!
To become one of the celebrated
student in your ages/class, you
must:-
# BE ATTENTIVE IN CLASS :
When a teacher/lecturer is giving
a lesson/lecture, take notes and if
you don’t understand something,
raise your hand and ask
questions. The more questions
you ask, the smarter you’ll get,
believe it or not. By passing notes
and talking to friends, you won’t
learn anything, so pay close
attention!
Don’t forget to review the notes
so taken when you have free time.
Take some time to write some
problems up, or you could ask
someone to write them for you.
Just remember, it doesn’t hurt to
go over what you have learned.
# DO YOUR HOME - WORK :
Teachers give you homework for a
reason. It is to review what you
have learned that day. Take
advantage of your free time. Do
your homework on the way home
from school in any spare time. Do
as much at school as you can-
there you have the teacher in case
you need help. Make sure not to
rush on your homework, to check
over it, and to be neat.
If you really want to be a
successful student, you should
know right from the beginning
when you want to be great at
anything, you have to put up with
things that just don’t seem fair.
Doing your homework is not a big
deal. Remember, homework can
also help you develop good habits
and attitudes. Always do what is
asked of you.
#STAY ORGANIZED :
In order to be a good student, one
of the key areas you’ll have to
work on is being organized.
Without organization, you’ll have
trouble finding your school
supplies and notes!
Bring everything you need with
you to class. Books, folders, pens,
pencils, homework, review sheets
etc. whatever you need it would be
a good idea to bring it.
Staying organized in school is
really important. If you are
organized, then you are one step
ahead in being successful.
# BE STUDIOUS :
It would be a good idea to start
studying a few days before a test.
Make a study schedule. If an
extracurricular activity gets in the
way of your studying, tell the
person in charge of that certain
event, that you will not be able to
attend that event, or you will have
to leave early.
However, there will be certain
situations where you will have to
attend whatever it is. In this kind
of situation, you will just have to
study another day. This is where
your study schedule comes in.
Write out a schedule of the week
of your test and find your free
time. Always remember, use your
time wisely. Study as if you are
motivated for the outcome of your
hard work.
# BE A READER :
If you are not already a reader,
start at your level and work your
way up. You may not know this,
but by reading more challenging
and difficult books, you are
expanding your vocabulary.
# SIMULATE TEST QUESTIONS :
Ask a parent or older sibling or a
friend to look over your notes and
create a mini-test for you as
always as you can.
# DRESS CUTE TO CLASSES :
Dress appropriate and nicely, as it
shows respect. YES! Avoid
wearing clothes that are too small
or too big, because they can make
you uncomfortable. If you have a
uniform, wear it neatly, tucking in
your shirt and making sure it
looks fine.
