PRESS STATEMENT

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday took to social media to announce, quite unceremoniously, that it had declared Chief Timipre Sylva wanted. No formal communication was extended to him, no established protocol observed—only a sudden digital proclamation designed, it would seem, to inflame public sentiment and manufacture yet another episode of orchestrated hostility.

It is, to say the least, curious that what was once whispered in corridors as a “coup matter” has now quietly metamorphosed into a financial allegation. The same shadowy forces that once sought to criminalise Sylva politically now appear to have reinvented themselves as fiscal crusaders. There must, undoubtedly, be an explanation for this cinematic transition—from rumour to reinvention, from one carefully scripted accusation to another.

Chief Timipre Sylva remains, without equivocation, the target of a coordinated and calculated political onslaught. His recent travails bear an uncanny resemblance to the trials of Job in Holy Scripture—each ordeal arriving with near-mathematical precision, each accusation discredited only for another to appear. These are no coincidences; they are the deliberate machinations of those who dread Sylva’s enduring political relevance and moral resolve.

For clarity, I have not been in direct communication with Chief Sylva. However, from available information and from prior official briefings, it is important to restate that Chief Sylva will, in line with his respect for lawful institutions and due process, honour the invitation of the EFCC once he concludes his ongoing medical check-up in the United Kingdom.

At this stage, one might jest that only the Boys’ Brigade of Nigeria and the Man’O’War remain uninvited to this theatre of persecution. The desperation to sully Sylva’s name knows no restraint—its sponsors are zealous, its intentions transparent, and its malice unmistakable. Yet, let it be categorically stated: Chief Timipre Sylva has clean hands. He has not diverted a single dollar, nor has he betrayed the trust reposed in him by the Nigerian people. The refinery project in question is a legitimate, transparent, and verifiable undertaking—subject to due process and traceable documentation.

To our friends, allies, and well-wishers: this, too, shall pass. Truth, though often delayed, remains immutable. It neither bows to propaganda nor perishes in the tumult of falsehood. Those engineering this relentless campaign of defamation will not prevail—for light, by its very nature, must always outshine darkness.

Outrage in Bayelsa as police Inspector brutalise three children over allege membership of witchcraft

There is rising outrage in Yenagoa,the Bayelsa State capital over the alleged brutalisation of three children by a Police Inspector Father in the state

The accused Police Inspector, Sunday Ude attached to the Anti-Cultism unit of the Igbogene police unit brutally assaulted his children at the weekend over allegations of being members of a witchcraft.

It was gathered that concerned neighbours quickly alerted men of the State Security Patrol unit, Door Akpor and rescued the brutalised children to the hospital.

Members of the Anti-Gender based violence groups, the Chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyers, Bayelsa chapter led by Dr. Boma Toney Miebai, the National Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence led by Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry and the Chairperson of the Do Foundation, Bayelsa chapter, Barr. Dianna Iluma Pius reacted to the incident and incident the matter to the police.

The Ministry of Women Affairs and Gender represented by the Permanent Secetary also quickly moved to the Police station and hospital for first hand information on the incident.

According to Dr. Boma Toney Miebai, the FIDA and the WAGBV have incidents the case at the Akenfa Police Station and pushing for charges of attempted murder, criminal assault but expressed the fear for the safety of the children while recieving treatment at the hospital.

Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry however commended the State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu for his quick response and order for the arrest of the accused Police Inspector, " the CP has ordered the arrest of the accused and the transfer of the case to the police headquarters.".

She confirmed that despite the critical nature of the case of the brutalised children, their condition are now stable," we are calling on public spirited individuals and group to àssist them in getting their lives back."

When our correspondent contacted the State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, he confirmed the development and said the accused policeman have been arrested.

The High Court of Bayelsa State, sitting in Yenagoa, on Thursday issued an order restraining associates of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, from holding a mega rally in the state pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.

The proposed rally is scheduled for Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on April 12, 2025.

Hon. Justice I.A Uzakah granted the Motion Ex-Parte in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025 filed by the state’s Attorney General, Mr. Biriyai Dambo SAN.

Listed as first and second defendants/respondents in the suit are the lead convener of the NEW Associates, organisers of the rally, Mr. George Turnah, and the FCT Minister, Wike.

The other defendants are the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Police Command.

The enrolled court order states that: “An order of the interim injunction is hereby made or granted restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants, whether by themselves, their agents, associates, privies, representatives (or any person whatsoever acting at their behest), from conducting, convening, coordinating, engaging in, organizing, participating in, holding, hosting, or facilitating any political assembly, rally meeting, or gathering within Bayelsa State, for
the purpose of solidarity, hosting, and celebrating the 2nd Defendant in Bayelsa State, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.”

The matter was adjourned to April 11, 2025 for hearing.
