The Bayelsa State Police Command has ordered for an investigation into the cause of the death of a 14-yr old girl in an hotel along the Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa.
The command's spokesman, ASP Musa Mohammed who disclosed this, said the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID ) of the Command is carrying out the order from the Commissioner of Police, CP Alonyenu Iduh.
Recalled that the deceased, Sharon James, who hailed from Akaibiri Community in Ekpetiama Clan of Yenagoa LGA, was said to have lodged into the hotel with the suspect, an unnamed 17-year old boy on Sunday.
We gathered that the deceased was said to have gone into the bathroom to take her bath around 11pm and never return as expected, so the suspect with fear reportedly opened the bathroom only to see the deceased in a pool of her own blood on the floor.
We also gathered that suspect then alerted his elder brother who was in another room, and they both rushed the deceased to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa for prompt medical attention, but it was too late for them as she was declared dead on arrival.
She was said to have had deep cuts on the neck and leg.
We further learnt that the father of the deceased, Mr. Ebitari James, demanded for autopsy to establish the cause of his daughter’s death while the suspect is in police custody.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri today, Signed the 2024 budget of N489,443,632,374.00 (Four Hundred and Eighty-Nine Billion, Four Hundred and Forty-Three Million, Six Hundred and Thirty-Two Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy -Four Naira) into law.
This budget, titled "Sustainable and Shared Prosperity", encapsulates the mandate and essence of the Government of Prosperity to create favourable conditions and opportunities for all Bayelsans.
While signing the bill in Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri, thanked the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere and members of the Assembly for putting the people first and for timely passage of the bill.
The governor also thanked the people of the state for endorsing the government of prosperity for a second term.
He further called on members of the state assembly, public servants and the people of the state to join hands with the government in implementing the programs and projects of government.
"In order to realise our vision of sustainable and shared prosperity, we have carefully crafted this budget to prioritize key sectors aimed at improving our infrastructure, expanding access to mass education with emphasis on Technical and Vocational Manpower Development, enhance healthcare services, and promote agriculture as a means of creating employment opportunities and reducing poverty", he stated.
The Governor also signed the 2023 electricity bill into law to make room for private investments into power generation in Bayelsa State.
