From what I saw yesterday, Utd team is split into 2 parts.

In the 4-2-3-1, the distance between the 4-2 and the 3-1 is too great, and there is no cohesion between those 2 halves of the team. It is everything I hate about 4-2-3-1, and we saw these chasms between attack and defence when Jose implemented this system at Chelsea. The team did not move as one unit.

It was basically get the ball to the front 4, they lose it, and then the back 6 are being counterattacked. And repeat cycle.

The whole team needs to move 10 yards further up the pitch to establish proper build-up between the back 6 and the front 4. Fullbacks should be allowed to join the attack, likewise the top 4 need to get involved in the build-up play. It is a feature of a Juan Mata midfield to see this big chasm of space between the 2 base midfielders and the AM. We had that at Chelsea for years. That's a tactical instability that comes with Juan Mata. He should be able to join the midfield 3 and involve himself in build-up play that will allow the rest of the team move 10 yards up the pitch. This is why I prefer 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1.

Mourinho has never mastered the 4-2-3-1 formation, and I don't see why he is insistent on playing it instead of the 4-3-3 that brought him the most success.

bro you really have valid points but I disagree with your last paragraph.. mou used the formation to succed at inter and also at Madrid..using an effective no 10 in that same setup,I personally think that ozil revolutionised the modern day no 10,that's y I don't think there can ever b a better no 10 in that 4231 like ozil,at least for the time being...

now all these balls down to personnel being available,to properly utilise d 4231 position,your no 10 has to have that positional and spatial awareness,intelligent movement and of course good pass accuracy and decision making..nd ozil ticked all those boxes,that's y mou never really bothered him to track back cos he knew his potency in attack...but in the end I think that's what confused mou,thinking every other no 10 can b like ozil..

and yes I agree with your final point about him needing to switch to a 433

I'm not sure its mahrez oo..he's just like ozil,their off d ball recovery of d ball is poor,but when the ball is in their feet,its quite hard to lose it...I believe if mahrez can b very efficient up front,he wouldn't b bothered much about defensive duties just the way mou didn't put defensive duties on ozil cos he knew the quality he brings in d final 3rd

The club dont need to have a team full of stars with disjointed style, ego and no purpose. Sometimes, average players with good motivation can get the job done in no distant time than the hype of headache the stars will cause.

I will still say this: Mahrez will fit that RW effortlessly with little amount. Find a deputy for Val at RB and give Luke Shaw more minutes of play. And add a versatile 10 to the middle then the team is good to go.

bro this is where I'm having problem with mou...y isn't he looking at mahrez...that guy is pure gold..already accustomed to d league,won't cost more than 40m..he actually has d quality to be our game changer..I always get excited when he's on the ball

Thank you. I hope they weed out the talk of all the naysayers taking sides with rival fans to spread doom and gloom all over the club and help the manager get what he wants. Mourinho may not be as inspiring or as attack minded in philosophy as Fergie or Pep but he has taken us from near death and possible oblivion to the consciousness of people and the press again. Even our rival fans point to our previous bad seasons to ridicule us rather than looking at how poor they thought we'd remain like the Arsenal's and Liverpool's of this world.
