You nailed it. That's what we fail to understand about Matic. My God, that guy called Matic is a baller, apart from sitting at the DM base, he is able to find defence splitting passes and intercept opposition attack attack without breaking a sweat. That's the kind of CDM we should be looking at not just the running and running and tackling type. Our play needs a DM in the mould of Matic, Busquet and Carrick.

Regarding the Neves vs Partey issue, you can watch full games of Wolves without noticing Neves defensively apart from his long range shots and passes. With Partey you notice him instantly, he still stands out despite ATM's community defending whereas Neves just blends in with his team.

Also Partey is better suited than Neves to cover the spaces that would be left by Bruno and Pogba. When i thought Pogba was leaving Neves made more sense, not so much any longer.

And yes, GET SANCHO, et pereat mundus.

When it comes to blocking passing lanes Matic is a learner where Ndidi is. Check their interception stats, then check their tackle stats. Matic plays well for half a season and with his stamina problems should ideally be a bench CDM as he enters his 30s.

Ndidi's passing is not as bad as many think, and i think in a team playing more expansive football he would show this.

Partey is a more polished player IMO though, so i would be okay if we got him instead.

I have heard good things about Benacer but i have not really watched him extensively. Will check some of his highlights and/or watch some recent Milan games.

I am no longer so sure about Ruben Neves. He is part of a midfield that always plays low blocks and almost always has very little possession. Apart from long range shots i am not sure how good he is as a CDM especially since he and Moutinho share the responsibility.

I think if one was to check their interceptions,naturally I don't think cdm playing for big teams would have as many numbers as those playing for other teams,but then Leicester has been really good this season..
Another reason why I'm not too sold on ndidi is that ability to receive the ball from defense and start buildup play,he easily easily caught off guard in that kind of situations,I remember against Chelsea when he made that mistake and some other games I just can't remember now..

I guess I have a personal preference for cdm who are very creative..

The issue with matic now is that he's become too slow, one would think that as he loses his pace, he would become quicker to pass,but more often than not you see him hold on to the ball for too long,then in some cases he gets tackled off the ball.

But partey plates for ATM,one of the reasons you're not really sold on neves is the teams setup and tactics,one would think its also similar to that of ATM also..let's just hope d clubs makes the right signing..

Before I forget...GET SANCHO AT ANY COST

That's why my first choice replacement for Matic is Thomas Partey.....

He can mark, work-rate is high,great passing range, can defend/attack set-piece, his football brain can make him adapt to any formation or position, ....

Ndidi can't displace in-form Matic in our line up because he is limited..... we don't need another Wan-bissaka type of player in our midfield.

I really wish id watched this party very well..I'm not a fan of reviewing players from YouTube,but from what most of you guys are saying,I believe he should be that good..but the funny thing is that we are not even being linked with any defensive midfielder at all

I agree 100%. Ismael Bennacer. Very good with the ball, especially in tight space and he can pick out a pass. He's very quick with a Fred like progressive style of play. But like you said, he's a key part of Milan's resurgence and I doubt if they will want to let him go at this time..

Hmmm. Ndidi as a specialist EPL tested CDM walks into the first team displacing Matic and balancing Pogba's perceived laziness with his work rate.

Partey is more versatile and can play in 2-3 different positions. More technically advanced than Ndidi but an inferior CDM.
I would go for Ndidi if the fee was the same, but with Partey being cheaper and more versatile he might be the better choice.

If ogs wants to keep up with this pattern of one defensive midfielder behind pogba and Bruno,another option we should try to look at is benaccer of Milan, from nations cup I've been observing him..and right now in this Milan resurgence,he's a very key part..

hes like a younger version of matic..highly press resistant,can pick up passes in between lines..has good tactical positioning to cut out opposition passes.does his job very well..

The reason I'm not all sold on ndidi is his passing range and play in tight spaces..cos that cdm role is not just about marking and work rate,you need to also have football intelligence to know how to block passing lanes of opposition attack,that to me is matic best quality self.but then my first choice still remains Ruben neves,but benaccer also has those qualities.I think he's being slept on

The French National team manager has a style of play that Giroud fits. That’s why he selects him.

Giroud played all matches at the World Cup as the French starting striker and did not register a shot on target.

If Rashford was French, the manager would have still selected Giroud ahead of him. It’s about style of play, not quality.

I think what Deschamps was trying to be very pragmatic with this setup and playing best to his teams ability..grieezy best role has been playing off a main striker,not really being the top 9 and like someone opined here also,mbappe isn't really a top 9 per se..so considering the fact with the options left,he needed a a striker who could at least hold up play and bring in grieezy and mbappe into the mix was his best route..tho I feel it if he had a quality striker like lewy,there wouldn't be need for a giroud..

That being said,rashford lacks the skill set to be the top 9 for France or displace any of the starting players in the lineup...also,the issue with benzema also made it easier for Deschamps to use giroud.

Ole should get out there and buy Ndidi in the summer. I don't know his current contract situation but Ndidi and Sancho coming in will be a very successful window.
