Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka Speaks On Buhari’s Plan To Establish Ruga Settlements

Prof Wole Soyinka, Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate has given concern following

President Buhari’s plan to establishing Ruga settlements in the country.

Prof Soyinka, has warned the Federal Government against the proposed

establishment of Ruga settlements across the country for herdsmen.

He noted that the move to establishing ruga settlement in the country will set the country on fire.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday at the launch of United Nations’ Solutions 17 SDG programme,

Soyinka berated the federal government for the idea, which will said can cause Nigeria to explode.

In his speech, he noted that:
“Ruga is going to be an explosion if not handled with care. But why do we not take our

policies from good models? This is not the way people and countries deal with issues of cattle.

Preacher Biodun Fatoyinbo said he was seeking leave of absence from the pulpit following the trending rape allegations

A flamboyant pastor in Nigeria has stepped aside from his church after a celebrity photographer accused him of raping her twice before she turned 18.

Biodun Fatoyinbo denied the allegation by Busola Dakolo, who is married to popular musician Timi Dakolo.

He said he was taking “leave of absence from the pulpit” because it was the “right thing to do”.



Ms Dakolo’s allegation went viral on social media, with some saying it had triggered Nigeria’s #MeToo moment.

The social media campaign has led to thousands of people sharing their stories of sexual abuse and harassment since 2017.

But women in socially conservative Nigeria have so far avoided speaking out, fearing a backlash or stigmatisation.

Nigeria has a huge Pentecostal Christian population and Pastor Fatoyinbo is the head pastor of the popular Commonwealth of Zion Assembly church in the capital, Abuja.

His church is one of the biggest and fastest growing in the country, especially among young people, says the BBC’s Joshua Ajayi in Lagos.

In a video circulating on social media since last week, Ms Dakolo said she was raped by the pastor at her father’s house early one morning, and the second time on a secluded road.

Her allegation led to protests on Sunday at different branches of Pastor Fatoyinbo’s church. Protesters held placards saying: “Thou shall not rape.”

A popular car maker has unveiled a car that runs on solar and can cover 12,400 miles of motoring a year.

Dutch car maker Lightyear has unveiled the first ‘long-range’ solar car that’s

claimed to provide customers with around 12,400 miles of motoring a year

using free energy captured from the sun, according to Dailymail.

The Lightyear One was unveiled on Tuesday priced at €149,000 – around £134,000.

Customers who want to secure one of the first 500 ‘pioneer’ examples

with need to pay a reservation fee of €119,000 (£106,166).

The car, which has five square metres of solar panels on the roof and bonnet,

is claimed to have a range of 725 kilometres (450 miles) from a full charge

of the relatively small battery powering the vehicle.
With Department for Transport calculating that the average motorist covers 7,134 miles annually,

it means Britons could drive all-year-round for free – granted the sun comes

out for long enough to charge the One’s battery.

At the launch event in Katwijk, Holland, bosses revealed key pieces of information

about the solar car that’s due to be delivered to owners in 2021.

They said it can be charged directly from the sun, which can generate a

maximum of 20,000km worth of free energy per year.

But it can also be charged from existing electric vehicle plug-in points while it’s

also boosting the batteries using its solar panels, effectively charging much faster than traditional EVs already on the market.

Oyo state Police command unmasks killers a 25-year-old housewife

The Oyo State police command on Thursday unmasked killers of a 25-year-old housewife,

Bosede Oguntade who was lured to Igboora, Ibarapaland area of the state by her assailants via Facebook.

The butchered remains of the victim were exhumed before journalists and sympathizers in the area.

The Punch correspondent observed that scores of sympathizers were wailing and

raining curses on the spiritualist and his accomplice who lured the unsuspecting victim and

grounded her body parts into powder for money rituals.

Bosede, who hailed from Ilorin in Kwara State was lured to Igboora to get solutions

to her economic and marital problems by an Ibarapaland-based spiritualist.

She met her untimely death when on arrival, she was strangled to death by a ‘prophet’

one Dotun Ogunlade popularly called ‘Arole Jesu’ in Igboora.

The commissioner of police in the state, Shina Olukolu who led his team to the

location where the victim was buried, said the head and arms of the victim were cut-off before he (Ogunlade) buried her.

Explaining how the victim was killed, the police boss said on arrival of the woman in Igboora,

the fake prophet told her to rest having travelled far.

The police said she was subsequently offered sleeping tablets.

Olukolu said she was allegedly injected with an overdose sleeping pills. Thereafter, she was strangled to death.

AI tool by Adobe automatically spots Photoshopped images

The sudden spread of fake videos and pictures all around the internet has made

the world become increasingly anxious which has made Adobe — a name known for

image editing — say it shares the same concerns too.

Today, Adobe in collaboration with scientists from UC Berkeley is sharing it new research

which uses machine learning to automatically detect when an image have been altered/manipulated.

A spokesperson told The Verge that the research was just one of many “efforts across

Adobe to better detect image, video, audio and document manipulations“, despite

the company saying it doesn’t have plans to commercialize this product

“While we are proud of the impact that Photoshop and Adobe’s other creative

tools have made on the world, we also recognize the ethical implications of our technology,”

said the company in a blog post.

“Fake content is a serious and increasingly pressing issue.”

This research is designed to specifically spot edits made with Photoshop’s Liquify tool,

which is commonly used to adjust the shape of faces and alter facial expressions.

The researchers said the work was the first of its kind designed to spot these sort of facial edits,

and constitutes an “important step” toward creating tools that can identify complex changes

including “body manipulations and photometric edits such as skin smoothing.”
