Former Minister’s Son Kidnapped

The son of the immediate past Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has been kidnapped.


Shina Olukolu, the Oyo State Police commissioner confirmed the kidnap of

the son of the former health minister, Dayo Adewole in Oyo State.

The kidnappers are reported to have waylaid Dayo and some of his staff at

his farm situated at Iroko near Fiditi in Afijio Local Government Area of the state.

The kidnappers wore facial masks to hide their identity and took away Dayo,

escaping through the neighboring village.

One of Dayo’s workers then raised the alarm and alerted the villagers who

quickly sent local hunters after the kidnappers. The hunters found the car

used by the kidnappers but neither Dayo nor any of the abductors were found.

UN confirms that 71million people are displaced by war and economic turmoil globally

The U.N. refugee agency on Wednesday said that no fewer than estimated 71 million people have been displaced worldwide from war, persecution and other vices.

According to the record, this is an increase of more than 2 million from last year and an overall total that will amount to the world’s 20th most populous country.

The annual “Global Trends” report released by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees counts the number of the world’s refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced people at the end of 2018, in some cases following decades of living away from home.



The figures, coming on the eve of World Refugee Day on Thursday,

are bound to add fuel to a debate at the intersection of international law,

human rights and domestic politics, especially the movement in some countries,

including the U.S., against immigrants and refugees.

Launching the report, the high commissioner, Filippo Grandi, had a message for U.S.

President Donald Trump and other world leaders, calling it “damaging”

to depict migrants and refugees as threats to jobs and security in host countries.

Often, they are fleeing insecurity and danger themselves, he said.

The report also puts a statistical skeleton onto often-poignant individual

stories of people struggling to survive by crossing rivers, deserts, seas,

fences and other barriers, natural and man-made, to escape government oppression,

gang killings, sexual abuse, militia murders and other such violence at home.

Man arrested for impersonating a Naval officer

A 60-year-old man named Martins Anyakoro, in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in

Lagos State was arrested by the police on Wednesday for allegedly impersonating a Naval officer.

News Agency confirmed that Anyakoro was charged with two counts of impersonation and breach of peace.

ASP Clement Okuoimose, the Prosecution Counsel, told the court that the offence was

committed by the defendant on June 13 at 6:30pm, at the Navy Base FOB Badagry, Lagos.

Huawei postpones launch of its folding smartphone

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., a Chinese multinational technology company

has postponed the launch of its Mate X folding handset to September against originally planned launch this summer.


The postponement was in consideration of further tests on the screen following

screen problems reported by Samsung Galaxy Fold’s early reviewers.

Samsung and Huawei had unveiled their devices on February but Huawei said it now wanted to be more careful.

Huawei confirmed that the Mate X is to be launched in September this year.

Ben Wood from CCS Insight noted that:

“The Mate X was always going to come later than Samsung’s Galaxy Fold,

but the Korean phone-maker’s problems have certainly given Huawei more breathing space,”

The release stated that shortlisted candidates have been scheduled to sit for Computer Based Testing (CBT) on Saturday, 1st June, 2019 across the Country.

“Notification of progression to the next stage has been sent to all shortlisted candidates via text and e-mail, while other details such as test centre and time will be sent on or before the 27thof May, 2019,” the release stated.
He relayed that validation of credentials of candidates would be a continuous process throughout the exercise, stressing that candidates discovered not to meet the requirements or who had presented false documents at any stage would be withdrawn from the exercise.

In Lagos, Nigeria, low-income earning parents have been given the opportunity to pay their wards’ school fees with waste; plastic bottles, pure water sachets and cans.

African Clean Up Initiative (ACI) a non-governmental organisation that aims to raise environmentally responsible citizens, launched a project in December 2018 called RecyclesPay Education Project.

Chief Executive Office, ACI, Alexander Akhigbe said the project was initiated due to the increment in the number of children dropping out of school because their parents are unable to pay the school fees.

Aside from making it easy for low-income earners to send their wards to school, the initiative aims to create awareness about the effect of plastic pollution on the environment.

"We also want to address the issue of plastic pollution from another dimension which will be beneficial to human lives, education and the environment at large," he added.

He said the project focuses on collecting plastic due to the damage plastic, pure water sachets and cans do to the environment, blocking drainages and causing flood.

"The recycling firm, Wecyclers buy off the PET bottles when parents bring it to school and the money is paid to the school through ACI," he added.

Recyclespay Education Project is contributing in the reduction of plastic pollution, alongside promoting education, good environmental practice of recycling and economic growth.

The "RecyclesPay Education Project" addresses nine goals out of the United Nations 17 sustainable development goals of transforming the world.

Houston has committed suicide after dealing with relentless bullying in school.

The President has vowed to prosecute anyone found culpable in the recent building

collapses in the country especially that of Lagos State.

President Buhari added that these occurrences have been as a result of professional

negligence and therefore, those responsible will have to face the law.

This was noted by him upon receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of

Quantity Surveyors at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.



President Buhari stressed the need to adhere strictly to quality standards in

construction projects and avoid cutting corners in order to prevent such

unfortunate incidents, resulting in the loss of lives.

Earlier today Tuesday, the Federal Government had inaugurated an inter-ministerial

committee on collapsed buildings as part of its commitment to finding a permanent solution to the menace.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Science and Technology,

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, said that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is

determined to do everything that is humanly possible to stop building collapses because of its toll on human life.

The committee, which has two weeks to complete its tasks is headed by the Acting Director

General of the Nigerian Building And Road Research Institute, Professor Samson Duna.
