Please note that this is not true at all. A Yoruba officer who had finished from Oxford before Emeka had the honour of being the first graduate to join the Nigerian Army. Sadly the gentleman joined the Education Corps of the Army and never became famous or infamous. I wish I could remember his name though.

There was no Nigerian who graduated from Oxford university and joined Nigerian army before Ojukwu. Ojukwu was the first Nigerian with university degree to join the army. James Olufemi Oluleye joined the army with Grade III teachers certificate. Victor Banjo was already Regimental Sargent Major when he was commissioned as an officer and later obtained university degree. Olufemi Olutoye graduated from Cambridge in 1956 and taught as a high school principal then enlisted in 1959.

Culture means a way of life, hope you know that. I still went to offa last December so I'm pretty sure about these facts. they have an emir which is the only thing you've been hammering on.........Trying to paint a narrative to explain your point of view will only drive you away from the truth. why you adding so much irrelevant picture though, I'm curious?
This is the fact...70% of Kwara indigenes, speak Yoruba, bear Yoruba names and surnames, greet like Yorubas. the hausa's see their way of worship as being different, exactly similar behavioral patterns with next to no resemblance with their northern folks, except in instances where Yorubas and our northern brothers have similar behaviors... Your fact are weird......as for the issue of Fulani's dropping their culture for those of the indigenes of where they're settling, it's absolutely not true. the natural law of culture dominance suggests that in an area where they're multiple cultures, the dominant culture will eventually prevail, that's why minor tribes lose their culture fast, the Fulani are nomadic in nature, and as such they tend to be everywhere but nowhere. Presumptive knowledge is bad bro. Again, a fulani man does not decide to pick the culture of where they go, it's due to the dominance of a much larger culture. hope u get. very few were in Kwara, as such the very few fulanis lost their culture not even to the yoruba's but to the hausa's.....On the control of power, Kwara state had always maintained some level of independence, except in these last two elections where they were influenced by Lagos politics. Kwara is not influenced or control by the north, in fact, they're one of the few north central states that are not.

Offa will offer the making of a fierce battle. The Caliphate had it for now.

I have been exploring google maps and i cannot come to terms with the state lines drawn around the south east.

The state line between:

Imo state and rivers state doesn’t make sense.

Abia state and rivers state doesn’t make sense.

Ebonyi state and cross river state doesn’t make sense

Arochukwu areas of Abia state and cross river state and Akwa ibom is very questionable.

Anambra north and kogi doesn’t make sense

Enugu and Ebonyi northern areas doesn’t make any sense.

Whomever drew those map after the civil war and during state creation really really really hated igbos and wanted to desperately limit their geography in the future Nigeria. This is why you have igbos clans forcefully carved into neighboring states. This is injustice and pure wickedness

I urge everyone to study those boundaries on google map and tell me if those lines make any sense.

Bro there is nothing in Nigeria that makes any sense. The boundaries were drawn to either deny certain states the crude oil well or add crude oil wells to states that do not have any. Ondo State remains the typical example of the states that inherited crude oil wells from the draconian boundary adjustment. Nigeria is worse than fake news.

Japan and Germany were countries long before the WWII and remained countries after the war. Unlike the idiotic stream of thought of the poster of above crap, Ndigbo were not constituted into a country of their own and never remained a country after the war. In addition, Ndigbo did not alone constitute Biafra. It is funny the writer of the above attachment, going by his/her name, hailed from the defunct eastern region of Nigeria. What a dunce.

Politics / Re: Arewa Forum: Producing President In 2023 Not Exclusive Right Of South by Duru1(m): 8:31pm On Mar 05, 2020
nairavsdollars:

* Says El-Rufai Speaking For Himself

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Wednesday said it was not the exclusive right of the South to produce the president in 2023.

Speaking exclusively with Daily Independent, Anthony Sani, a northern leader and the outgoing Secretary-General of the ACF, said there was no national consensus on zoning that was binding on political parties in the country.

According to him, since Nigeria was practising a multiparty democracy, each political party was free to zone its presidential ticket to any part of the country.

“In a multiparty democracy, it is political parties that field candidates for elective positions because there is no provision for independent candidates.

“And if any political party, in its winning game plans, fields a candidate from the South and majority of Nigerians vote for him, so be it! That would be democracy in action.

“I say so because the president coming from the South is not a matter of right, considering there is no national consensus on politics of identity symbolised by zoning that is binding on the political parties.

“As long as there is no national consensus on politics of identity symbolised by zoning that is binding on political parties, it is not possible to shut out any region or zone or state from the contest for the post of the president.

“Recall when President Obasanjo wanted to force politics of zoning on the nation by bringing the late President Umaru Yar’Adua from the North after the South, he had to use political blackmail to shut out people like former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili, from the South.

“And when President Yar’Adua died, one did not expect former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest with Muhammadu Buhari in 2011 and 2015, in the spirit of zoning. But he did.”

Also reacting to the statement made by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State that the presidency should rightly return to the Southern part of the country, Sani said the statement was El-Rufai’s personal opinion and not the general belief of the North.

The ACF scribe said, in the last presidential election, even when it was agreed that the North should produce presidential candidates, a large percentage of presidential candidates that participated in the 2019 elections were from the Southern part of the country.

“In 2019, it was thought that the spirit of zoning would leave the field for presidential candidates from the North, but there were over 70 candidates, most of them from the South.

“This is testament to the fact that there is no national consensus on zoning that is binding on political parties with exclusive preserve to field candidates for elective posts in our multiparty democracy. That is why what Governor El-Rufai has said is not more than his personal opinion,” he said.

I would have said that Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) are bunch of very smart people if they had called for the abolishment of quota system and silly federal character charade in Nigeria. Until they publicly denounced quota system in Nigeria, they are bunch of ninnies.

Below is a picture of a 22 year old, Biafran warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and his aunty, Winifred Ojukwu, shortly after he returned to Nigeria in 1955 on completing his studies at Oxford university. Ojukwu bagged a Degree in History.

Ojukwu attended Kings College Lagos, Epsom College, Surrey, England and the prestigious Oxford University, England.

By the time Ojukwu returned to Nigeria in 1955, his father had become one of the richest businessmen in the country with a business empire that spanned Transportation, Banking, Retail, Construction and Manufacturing.

Ojukwu's father took him to his corporate headquarters and showed him a well furnished airconditioned office, offering him a top position in his business organisation. Ojukwu turned his father down, telling him he wanted to make his own way in life. Ojukwu eventually secured a job in the civil service as an assistant district officer of Udi division, just outside Enugu. In 1956, Ojukwu was posted to Aba. It was at Aba that Ojukwu attended a party that would change the course of his life. At this party, Ojukwu met a young Yoruba man called Adeyinka Adebayo, who had just been newly commissioned as an officer of the Nigerian Army. Adebayo told Ojukwu that the Army was in the process of being indigenized and their was a shortage of officers. A few weeks after this party, Ojukwu was promoted to District Officer and posted to Calabar.

On hearing that his son had been posted to Calabar, Ojukwus influential father prevailed on the authorities to cancel the posting. When Ojukwu learnt of what his father had done, he angrily resigned his job and drove all the way to Kaduna where he enlisted into the Nigerian Army as a lowly recruit.

Ojukwu's transfer to Aba was as a result of his altercation with British DO whom Ojukwu slapped. The British DO was equally transferred out of Udi to northern region of Nigeria.

gidgiddy:
The British officers at Kaduna kept wondering what an Oxford graduate was doing as a private in the Army and sent him for officers course in England. Ojukwu returned in 1957 and was commissioned a second Lieutenant, the first graduate to join the Nigerian Army.

Ojukwu rose rapidly through the Army. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1958, Captain in 1960, Major in 1962 and Lieutenant Colonel in 1964.

Ojukwu was commander of the 4th battalion, Kano, when the first coup happened in January 1966.

As the coup unfolded, Major Nzeogwu called on Ojukwu to join the coup to which Ojukwu refused. Ojukwus refusal to join Nzeogwu is one of the major reasons why Nzeogwu's coup eventually failed.

General Ironsi then siezed power and appointed Ojukwu Military Governor of the Eastern Region.

6 months later, mid-level officers of the Nigerian of Northern extraction conducted a coup that led to the overthrow and killing of Ironsi, and the installment of Lt Yakubu Gowon as head of state. The coup also greenlighted a pogrom in which over 30,000 Easterners, mainly Igbos, were killed all over Nigeria, particularly in the North.

The inability of Gowon to stop the killings, the resentment in the Eastern Region against his government and the fact that Ojukwu was senior to Gowon caused bad blood between both men

The crisis became so bad that the then President of Ghana, General Joe Ankrah, intervened and invited both Gowon and Ojukwu to his Hiltop Mansion in Aburi, Ghana, for peace talks in January of 1967.

After two days of discussions, Ojukwu and Gowon signed an agreement that was to be known as the Aburi Accord.

A few months after their return from Ghana, Gowon broke the Aburi accord they signed by issuing decree 14 of 1967 which abolished all the 4 Regions, created 12 states, reversed the fical federalism practiced, changed the revenue sharing formular, all in a bid to increase the power of the North over the rest of Nigeria

For Ojukwu, it was the last straw. Ojukwu convened the Eastern Nigerian Consultative Forum, a body that comprised of all the chiefs and head of the 20 provinces that made up the Eastern Region. They sat and discussed for 2 days and mandated Ojukwu to declare the Eastern Region a separate country. On the 30th of May 1967, Ojukwu declared the Eastern Region a separate country called the Republic of Biafra.

In retaliation, Gowon declared war. The war raged on for 3 years and ended in January 1970 with Ojukwu handing over to his deputy, General Effiong, flying into exile in Ivory Coast and the subsequent surrender of Biafra.

Ojukwu later returned from exile 12 years later. He died in London in 2011 aged 78. His burial remains the greatest ever witnessed in Nigeria

Ojukwu is still revered by most Igbos because they believe he fought for their freedom.

There are more than one typo or lack of accurate facts in the above post. Ojukwu was the commander of 5th battalion and Gowon was Lt. Col.

CROSS RIVER ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR SANCTION OF NBA PRESIDENT ,PAUL USORO SAN
FOR PROMOTING TRIBAL WAR IN NIGERIA

....SAYS HE IS NOT A SOLE ADMINISTRATOR OF NBA.

It is no longer news that the recommendation of Justice Akon Ikpeme as substantive CJ by the NJC and her subsequent appointment by the Governor on the 8th day of January 2020 was brought to a lawful close on the 2nd day of March 2020 when the CRHA in exercise of its powers under S. 271 (1) of the CFRN 1999 (as amended) rejected her confirmation on grounds of security. Coincidentally and unfortunately also, her appointment as Acting CJ by the Governor which was occasioned by the retirement of Justice Michael Edem and made pursuant to S. 271 (4) of the CFRN 1999 ( as amended) also expired on the same day 2/3/20 and the resolution of the CRHA was duly communicated to the Executive on the same day.

It is important to add that His Excellency on receipt of the resolution of the CRHA and the advice of the Attorney General and Commissioner for justice on the need to ensure that a vacuum was not created in the headship of the Judiciary and in compliance with S. 271 (4) of the CFRN 1999 (as amended), proceeded on the 3rd day of March 2020 to swear in the most senior judge, Justice Maurice Odey Eneji in acting capacity pending the recommendation of a substantive Chief Judge by the NJC for appointment.

The law is trite that except the NJC recommends, the present appointment of Justice Maurice Eneji as Acting CJ will also lapse at the expiration of 3 months and the Governor will not reappointed him. S. 271 (5) of the CFRN 1999 (as amended) is clear on this.

What is now news is the misleading publication by the President of the NBA Mr Paul Usoro SAN who in a frenzied expression of his ethnic agenda made himself a sole administrator of the NBA and has been issuing unguarded press statements that is aimed at deriding our sovereign and independent status as a sub national and an affront on our legislative independence as an arm of Government.

It is important to place on record that even though the committee received petitions bothering on the origin of Justice Akon Ikpeme, but it is instructive to state that she was not rejected on the flimsy ground of being a non indigen by birth but on weighthy and damaging security reasons which the House decided not to divulge because of the grave implications it will have on the person of Justice Akon Ikpeme.

It will be recall that the JSC of the state immediately convened a meeting and notified the NJC of its action appointing the most senior judge to act while awaiting the recommendation of the NJC as a mark of respect and due process of appointment of judges in a memo dated 3/3/20 ref. No. JSC /S/71/vol 111/489 duly signed by the Attorney General as Alternate chairman of JSC in CRS.

We want all well meaning Cross Riverians to know that the fear of external influence on Cross River State which CRHA expressed and based its rejection of Justice Akon Ikpeme on is what Mr Paul Usoro SAN is now exhibiting.

We have indeed been vindicated and we give God all the glory for our perspicacity in rejecting the confirmation of Justice Akon Ikpeme as substantive CJ.

What really does Akwa Ibom state want from Cross River State?

Why did Justice Akon Ikpeme mobilized armed thugs from Akwa Ibom state ( two of whom were later arrested and are still in police custody ) to disrupt the sitting of the House on Friday 28th February 2020?

Why did Justice Akon Ikpeme shut down all courts and ordered JUSUN to mobilize all her members to the CRHA to impress and compel members of the CRHA to confirm her?

It is important to let Mr Paul Usoro SAN know that CRHA is not an arm of NBA but an arm of Government with functions clearly spelt out in the 1999 constitution and will neither be intimidated by Mr Usoro 's threat nor will it surrender its constitutional power of confirmation of Chief Judge to Mr Paul Usoro SAN.

We challenge Mr Paul Usoro to point any iota of alleged contravention (if any) by the CRHA with respect to the powers conferred on the CRHA by S. 271 (1) supra.

We are not oblivious of the fact that Mr Usoro 's failed political interference and deep ethnic campaigns in the past few months will stop at nothing but we want to state in clear terms that the 9th Assembly of Cross River State will not fold its arms and allow Mr Usoro SAN take over its function nor allow any indigen of Akwa Ibom state dominate or oppress any arm of Government in Cross River State.

We therefore call on all Cross Riverians, to rise in unison to condemn the threat of Mr Paul Usoro SAN ( an indigin of Akwa Ibom state) who is using his last few months in office as president of NBA to fight ethnic battles and usurp our constitutional duties with the intention of imposing his fellow sister from Akwa Ibom state Justice Akon Ikpeme as chief Judge of our state through the same illegal and fraudulent ways he orchestrated the taking of our oil wells and eventual ceeding of our oil rich bakassi peninsula to the Republic of Cameroon which has now reduced us to penury and excruciating social tension and economic hardship

The time to fight against external interference is now. Mr Usoro SAN is only an NBA president and not a sole administrator of NBA and cannot also replace his self serving ethnic agenda to impose a lady whom we have rejected to be our Chief judge.

For the record, we rejected her based on the myriad of grave security concerns including the mobilization of armed thugs to the Assembly, shutting down of all courts and inciting members of JUSUN to compel members through threat messages to confirm her.

The committee also considered as a serious issue the class petition of concerned lawyers who stated clearly that the confirmation of Justice Ikpeme will spell doom in the Judiciary obtainment of judgment by fraud will become the new practice order since Mr Mba Nkweni SAN influences all her judgments.

This allegation was also corroborated by her own admission in a curriculum vitae she submitted to the house with the name of Mr Mba Nkweni SAN as her reference; further investigation also revealed that her daughter practices in his firm.

The petition of accepting bribe from a former Senator and many other damaging reports which the committee considered as too damaging to divulge with its wide security implications on the were the reasons for the rejection of her confirmation and not merely her origin from Akwa Ibom state.

We call on the NJC to sanction Mr Paul Usoro SAN for using his office to fight ethnic battles.

We humbly urge the NJC to disregard any letter, petition, or complaint emanating from Mr Paul Usoro SAN or any of his agent, privy, etc. and we urge NJC to suspend him from participating in any meeting in respect of any issue regarding the appointment of a substantive CJ of CRS as Mr Paul Usoro SAN has by his selfish conduct reduced himself to an ethnic jingoist and an interested party who is only out to reinforce his peechant for causing pains and hardship on Cross River State.

The role Mr Usoro SAN played in the ceeding of our 76 oil wells is still too fresh in our hearts and even if we do not have the resources to fight back on this, we will continue to carry our function within the ambit of the constitution and we pray to God and Almighty Allah to stand up against any attempt by Paul Usoro SAN to use his position in NJC to impose a CJ that we have lawfully rejected in compliance with S. 271 (1) of the CFRN 1999 (as amended) on us.
