Religion / Offense: The Enemy Within by duyox2004: 12:43pm On Apr 20, 2023
THURSDAY DIGEST

*Offense: the enemy within*

Proverbs 19:11 "A person's discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook an offense"

Offense is one of the easiest trap a believer can fall into. A stumbling block and an hinderance.

The Trap of offense blurs vision, creates spiritual chaos and it's the most effective tool to stagnate the vision of God for our lives and the church.

It takes a spiritual maturity to deal with the power of offense.

When we get offended, we immediately lose focus on what matters and start getting sapped by irrelevances. What could matter more than God's divine purpose and destiny?

Is it the gossip about you? Or what someone did in the past. Nothing is actually worth the offense compared to what God is about to do with our lives.

I call offense the enemy within because its the easiest trap that as taken most believers off track.

People change churches because they are offended. People start new ministries/churches because of this same offense.

Offense is a major reason for division in the body of Christ.

A major distraction.

But in actual fact, offense is even deeper because it can lead to jealousy, envy and murder.

When you're offended sin is literally at your door and probably in your life. Offended people are more vulnerable and likely to sin.

Cast away all form of offense, live freely, let your heart be light, try as much as possible to be at peace with yourself that you might be at peace with all.

Offense made Cain a desolate
Offense made Saul a victim
Offense made Esau a raging wanderer

Offense can block a destiny, try not to offend people. Do your best to give people a good experience.

Offence is derailing and I've been a victim of it myself.

Offense can push you away from God

May we find the spiritual mindset to block and destroy every form of offense in Jesus name.

You're glorified when you overlook an offense, but stumble when you don't

Sports / Ronaldo Facing League Expulsion And Deportation For Grabbing His Genitals by duyox2004: 12:33pm On Apr 20, 2023
Al-Nassr claim Cristiano Ronaldo was suffering with a groin issue as he faces deportation calls for grabbing his crotch in front of fans.

The Portuguese star endured a frustrating night as his Saudi outfit were beaten 2-0 by Al-Hilal, which saw them lose ground in the title race. Ronaldo was booked for a WWE-style tackle and also found himself in hot water after appearing to respond to Lionel Messi-related taunts.

Ronaldo seemed to grab his genitals in front of a section of the crowd, which caused mass offence through the Kingdom. It led to a trend emerging online wanting Ronaldo ejected from the country, with the theme "Expelling the fan's abuser".

Lawyer Nouf bin Ahmed has reacted and wants Ronaldo to be reprimanded for his actions. He said on social media: "It is considered a crime of public dishonor, and it is one of the crimes that entails arrest and deportation if committed by a foreigner," he also signalled his intent to file a complaint to the Saudi Prosecutor's Office for his "crime of public indecency".

Al-Nassr though has cited a "sensitive" injury in that area of the body as they attempt to play down the gesture. The club's board clarified the incident to journalist Muhammed Al-Enezi, who said in a statement on Wednesday: "Ronaldo suffers from an injury. His challenge with Gustavo Cuellar, the Al-Hilal player, started with a blow in a very sensitive area. This is confirmed information. As for the fans’ explanations, they are free to think whatever they want.”

I hate it. I’m 41, never married, no kids.

I’ve been close…twice. But ended both relationships when they were caught cheating.

I’ve dated several men since then, most older than me, and they seemed to be in no hurry to even be in a committed relationship. Which is crazy to me that these men are mid-40s and still trying to hangout with the guys and party. I met a whole guy group of friends in Houston 2 years ago…all single, all 36–45 years old. They were throwing house parties during the quarantine…parties!!

When I was in grade school, I was told to get a degree, don’t get pregnant, just enjoy being single, make friends, keep dating, and the right man will find you.

Now that I have two degrees, traveled the world, developed hobbies, and avoided pregnancy…my doctors are telling me to just be a single mom because I’m running out of eggs as I type this message.

I beat teenage pregnancy to be considering single motherhood at 41.

Damn you, parents, counselors, pastors, and everyone who gave me that advice. I can’t get that time (or my eggs) back. I hate being single at this age!!

An ‘easy’ marriage is not common even for those in-love. Sometimes I think the concept of marriage is unnatural but necessary. If I am single again (knock on wood) in the future, I wouldn’t want to get married again. Some marriages have its ebbs and flows. The first two years can be difficult for obvious reasons. Then marriage challenges in year 8 (that’s generally the time some marriages hit a wall).

DH and I are in cruise control now, children are getting older, careers are taking off with more responsibilities. They say if you make it past year 7-8 unscathed, you are good.

Modified.

Why don't we just ABOLISH this marriage concept.

I think our children's generation would.
Health / World’s Hairiest Girl' Shaves Her Face To Marry Love Of Her Life by duyox2004: 6:59pm On Mar 14, 2020
A Thai teenager, once crowned the world’s hairiest girl and nicknamed ‘Chewbacca,’ has shaved her face in order to tie the knot with the 'love of her life.'
Supatra "Nat" Sasuphan, 17, from Thailand, has a rare condition called Ambras Syndrome, also known as the Werewolf Syndrome. Supatra has excessive hair growth from tip to toe. Her condition, which only around 50 people in the world are known to have suffered from since the Middle Ages, won Natty the Guinness World Record of the hairiest girl on planet Earth in 2010.
The girl’s father, Samrerng, has confirmed that his daughter, still has the disease, but started shaving her face and body after marrying the "love of her life."
Natty sang praises to her husband on Facebook, saying, he is “not just my first lover, you’re the love of my life.”
An optimist by nature, Nat’s enthusiasm is infectious. While at the Guinness World Records ceremony in Rome in 2010, the girl said she doesn’t feel “any different to anyone else, and I've got lots of friends at school."
Her most exciting experience was the moment she was crowned Hairiest Child. "Being hairy makes me special," she said.
Guinness adjudicator Marco Frigatti said the kid is a real role model for children everywhere. “She’s a remarkable little girl. She’s proud of who she is and wants to be treated just like everyone else. She’s not the one with the problem — it’s only those who treat her differently who’ve got the problem.

Health / Re: Heat, Sunlight And Humidity May Restrict The Spread Of Corona Virus In Africa by duyox2004: 1:31pm On Mar 12, 2020
True. God understands how weak Jacob (Africa) is. The recent uncomfortable warm weather could be the hand of God to protect Africa from the spread of this outbreak.
Health / Heat, Sunlight And Humidity May Restrict The Spread Of Corona Virus In Africa by duyox2004: 1:21pm On Mar 12, 2020
Will warmer weather slow the spread of coronavirus?

Experts say sunlight and heat limit growth and longevity of virus, but observing proper hygiene is more effective.

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to cause jitters with cases surging close to 120,000 and deaths nearing 4,300 worldwide as of Wednesday, reports have emerged quoting medical experts saying the warmer spring and summer weather may bring some relief by slowing down the spread of the infection.

Dr Stefan Baral, an epidemiology expert at Johns Hopkins University, was quoted by the Boston Herald as saying he expects "a natural decrease" of the disease as the United States moves into warmer weather.

AccuWeather, the US-based forecaster, quoted Dr John Nicholls, a pathology professor at the University of Hong Kong, saying there are three things coronavirus does not like: sunlight, temperature and humidity.

"Sunlight will cut the virus's ability to grow in half, so the half-life will be 2.5 minutes, and in the dark it's about 13 to 20 [minutes]. Sunlight is really good at killing viruses," Nicholls said

Deutsche Welle also cited Thomas Pietschmann, a virologist from Germany's Centre for Experimental and Clinical Infection Research, who said the coronavirus is "not very heat-resistant, which means that the virus quickly breaks down when temperatures rise".

Dispelling myths

While health experts agree warmer weather is a factor in containing the outbreak, they stress the outcome of each country's response may depend on how robust its healthcare infrastructure is, how quickly those tools are deployed, and how proactive citizens are.

They also said there are other crucial variables to consider in fighting the infection, warning that simply relying on weather patterns without observing safety precautions and other health protocols invites risk.

Even as the weather warms up in the northern hemisphere, the coronavirus may still survive for days at temperatures up to 25C (77 F), according to a study in Germany published by the Journal of Hospital Infection

The study showed a human coronavirus could persist for five days in 21C (69.8 F) temperature on a Teflon, ceramic or steel surface. In comparison, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) could last on a plastic surface for more than five days between 22C and 25C (71.6-77F).

Dr Edsel Maurice Salvana, director at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of the Philippines, told Al Jazeera that a direct correlation between warmer countries and the slower spread of the virus "is a myth".

"It might deactivate the virus faster if it is in on surfaces, but it won't affect people who get sick from inhaling droplets from someone's cough or sneeze," said Salvana, who is also an adjunct professor for Global Health at the University of Pittsburgh in the US.

Personal hygiene, proper protection
Dr Michael Chi Wai Chan, an infectious disease expert at the University of Hong Kong, noted while the viral activity "is a little bit lower in relatively warmer temperatures" such as Indonesia, the Philippines, or even India, "it won't really affect" the transmission of the virus per se, which is spreading in the air.

According to the latest reports on Wednesday, there were 26 cases confirmed in Indonesia with one death; 49 in the Philippines, also with one death; and 44 cases in India with no deaths and no local transmission so far.

No matter what the temperature is, Chan said, what is more important is that individuals observe personal hygiene and proper protection, "which is really affecting the outcome" of the infection.

Heat and humidity

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Ghafur, an infectious disease specialist based in the Indian city of Chennai, said compared to its population of 1.3 billion, the dozens of confirmed cases in India "is not a big number".

He said the heat and humidity in the country "could be one of the reasons" why coronavirus is not spreading faster in his country, as the weather limits the virus from travelling "longer or faster".

"It is not just the temperature that is killing in the warm climate, it is the humidity as well. The humidity reduces the transferability of the virus," he told Al Jazeera.

In the case of India, the government is carrying out screenings of international airline passengers, and is doing testing "as much as we can", Ghafur said.

In cold-weather regions such as those in Europe and parts of the US, the general dryness of the air allows the virus to travel farther and when it settles, it also persists longer and spreads faster because of the lower temperature, he said.

In Iran, where the average temperature is about 0 to 10C (32-50F) during this time of year, the government has so far reported more than 9,000 coronavirus cases and 354 deaths as of Wednesday.

But even as the weather gets warmer in those countries, Ghafur said he does not expect the coronavirus "to go away completely".

"It may become endemic at least in a few countries," he warned, adding countries with better healthcare systems may be able to contain the outbreak faster.

"If the healthcare system is weak, the containment will be slow. So it depends on the robustness and the ability of the healthcare systems in the world."

Health / Coronavirus: Nigeria, Wake Up! by duyox2004: 12:27pm On Feb 01, 2020
The novel 2019-nCoV is spreading at an alarming rate and it’s been compared to the virulence of the measles virus years back. As of today, death toll across the provinces in China, with Wuhan being the epicentre included, is about 259 people and 11,791 infected. This is in spite of the rumours that the total infected people may be close to a 100,000 people. The Chinese have been known to produce infidel data when it comes to disease control and public health issues in the past. They were alleged to have produced inaccurate information concerning the SARS epidemic in 2003.

The situation was declared a global emergency on Thursday, 30th January, 2020. And there hasn’t been adequate information on the virus. Research is still ongoing. Countries that have proper emergency plans and experience like the European countries, Canada and the USA, have reported cases of the virus. But the question is: Do African countries like Nigeria with the poor infrastructure and porous borders possess what it takes in expertise and equipment to diagnose this disease, not talking of treating the infected?

Nigeria have been declared a high risk country already by the WHO alongside some African countries like Algeria, Angola, and South Africa etc. I was listening to a radio program where a member of the NMA (Nigerian Medical Association) stated clearly that no Nigerian hospital has the infrastructure to handle this kind of pandemic.
But we have had experience with Ebola. And despite the fact that the threat was closer when compared to far distant China, we were able to curtail the spread. Unfortunately, we are not behaving like students who have had a previous classroom experience. Or perhaps that experience has made us overconfident. I believe strongly that the kind of urgency and awareness shown for Ebola eradication should start in earnest without taking chances, given our poor health infrastructure. Prevention is better than cure.

By now, we should have started taking measures like stocking and giving out sanitizers and face masks, encourage washing of hands in public places and sensitize the public concerning symptoms of the virus. Nigeria has never been able to totally eradicate the spread of Lassa fever, addition threat of coronavirus will almost annihilate an already fragile health system.
Africa have a strong trade and expatriate relationship with China, and we might not have detected cases already because we plainly do not have a fast means to do so. Tackling human to human transmission of the virus is key to the taming this wild virus. And symptoms are not entirely unique as they start from having fever or common cold.

Wuhan virus: How to stay safe if it eventually hits the country.

Wear gloves or wash hands regularly
If you are in situation where you have to remove your gloves do not touch your face
Change your gloves daily
Where masks outdoors
Inside your household, remove your towels from your bathrooms and kitchen immediately
Be careful with door knobs and handles
Don’t share your personal kitchen utensils like spoons and plates
Do not buy, slaughter, or consume any live animal
Open your windows

Symptoms of coronavirus

Cold
Fever
Drug-resistant pneumonia
Kidney and liver failure
Public place necessities (bank, schools, hospitals)
Hand washing stations
Hand sanitizers
Face masks
Body temperature sensors
Quarantine centres

Sports / Africa's Richest Man Aliko Dangote Again Confirms Arsenal Takeover by duyox2004: 2:47pm On Jan 13, 2020
Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote has once again declared his intention to buy Arsenal Football Club… in 2021.

Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has previously made a number of statements about his desire to purchase the Gunners.

During the last five years, the 62 year-old has made separate claims, on no less than five occasions, about his want to lead an Emirates takeover.

Dangote, who is the 96th wealthiest man in the world, according to Bloomberg's Billionaire's Index, started his first business at the age of 21 and also founded Africa's largest cement provider, stated in 2018 his desire to make a move for the North London club in 2020.

"We will go after Arsenal from 2020… even if somebody buys, we will still go after it,” he told Reuters in 2018.

Now he has altered his plans, amid a holdup with his Dangote Refinery project.

The Dangote Refinery remains under construction in the remote Ibeju-Lekki suburb of Lagos and is expected to be one of the world's largest oil refineries once complete.

However, with that project having experienced numerous delays and now not set to be completed until 2021, Dangote's timescale has changed.

In an interview with Bloomberg, broadcast on the most recent edition The David Rubinstein Show, Dangote - who has an estimated net worth of $14.1bn - reiterates his intentions for the Premier League outfit.

He states: "It is a team that yes I would like to buy some day, but what I keep saying is we have $20billion worth of projects and that's what I really want to concentrate on.

"I'm trying to finish building the company and then after we finish, maybe some time in 2021 we can.

"I'm not buying Arsenal right now, I'm buying Arsenal when I finish all these projects, because I'm trying to take the company to the next level.”

Arsenal are currently owned by Stan Kroenke, through his Kroenke Sports & Entertainment group, with the American having come in for widespread criticism in recent years.

"From experience we know that history has a shrewd way of repeating itself over and over (something like a vicious cycle) until a deliberate action is taken to change things."

A big heritage

The Yorubas have a very colorful history and an impressive culture with a "big brain" to complement. A classy kind of people whose heritage spread from one corner of Nigeria to some parts of west Africa and beyond into the southern America.

To talk about the Yorubas this way deserves a series of blog posts. Even with that, the stories are still inexhaustible.

That's for the eulogy. Now into the matter at hand. It is written somewhere that a little fly can spoil a bottle of perfume, and as subtle as a soldier ant is, it can be a "mathematical conundrum" for the mighty elephant.

There is a very small stigma common to the Yorubas which almost makes them vulnerable and diminishes the effect of their obvious intellectual superiority.

I should frankly say that the Yorubas are the closest to the American filerbusters. Yorubas are the most political of all the Nigerian race.

Yorubas can talk, and not just talk, I mean talk in an educative manner. The current Alaafin of Oyo and Ooni of Ife are scholars in their own respect.

The Yorubas are the most verbose tribe in the country and equally intelligent. However, this seems to be a compensatory feedback on their passive tendencies which match their effortlessness in ratting out or selling to the enemy.

You keep killing them, instead of taking any action, they talk even more. It just soothes their pain. It doesn't matter who they are; governors, traditional rulers etc.

So when someone like Baba Olusegun Obasanjo presented another version of a Yoruba man, which seem to a better version, by backing is linguals with big actions, it was expected that his kinsmen would support him no matter what. But what did majority of them do? They talked even against him. It would seem that they're only out to villify their brother. Something you won't see an Igbo or Hausa do. They'd rather keep silent if they are not pleased about something.

I have not called baba a saint though.

The tragedy of the fowl eating the intestine of its kind

Now down to the most painful one. Not the Afonja story and how Ilorin was sold to the Fulanis. But the story of our "Joseph", late chief. Obafemi Awolowo and his "subordinate' late chief. Akintola.

Envy and strife will only cause a generational hardship for all. These diabolic elements are a killer of dreams.

Awolowo pursued a major agenda for the Yorubas relative to the country Nigeria. These I think were:

1. Dominate using exposure and education

2. Stylishly fortify the western region and later negotiate for total autonomy or "independence"

Generation after generation still see the artifacts of these big pictures. He loved his people and represented them well.

All those corruption allegations were just distractions and ephemeral. To rub it in, it was a Yoruba judge who sentenced him.

However, it was not the enemy without that was most treacherous, it was the enemy within. I understand that baba Akintola had some form of relationship with the northerners, but how would you indirectly sell out for the sake of personal vendetta.

The inability of a typical Yoruba man to genuinely serve his fellow man is a common disease that has plagued for so long. They are just built for useless rivalry which is just nonsensical. That is why we keep seeing fractions here and there. Even in families. Everyone just wants to oppress. Let one child have small change, he will want the title of "olori ebi" immediately.

All these oppressive cultural values just makes the special endowment of this tribe of no serious effect in the long run. You don't know if the Yorubas are actually behind you if they say they are right there to support and defend you.

I think there is still a lot to learn from the indestructibility of the Igbos, their resilience which birthed their industry. There belief in a unified goal which was shown during the Biafrian war. That heroic story will continue to ripple through this country.

Or the all conquering nature of the Fulanis, who believe they have the right to everything. Including your life, if you are so charitable.

I think right now in the scheme of things, Yorubas are the weakest. They hold no position whatsoever. They believe they can always talk through without any tangible action. This approach doesn't hold water.

Who is the fittest survivalist?

I am almost certain that the igbos will do greatly if there is a division. Only if they can get a charismatic leader like late Chukwuemeka Ojuwku. I don't think that leader can be Nnamdi Kanu.

The Fulanis already have leaders and they follow instructions without any personal bias. When you talk about mechanical loyalists. This ones are. They too will survive.

But the Yorubas? Hmm, its 50% 50%

They are naturally life and party lovers. They really don't commit, and love to be divisive. So I think there will be some internal fracas which will not be confrontational but will eat everyone up. This has a way of sustaining instability generally. We have also become extremely lazy and over dependent recently. We just want to enjoy civilization as much as we can and we are careless about any other thing.

Things like security, brotherhood, loyalty and stuffs.

It is time we are committed to now and thereafter, and ask ourselves where we are in the picture, first as a race, then as an ethnic group in this Nigerian contraption.

Feel free to comment and share your perspective.

Religion / The "Christian" Individualism And Impunity by duyox2004: 9:29am On Jun 29, 2019
It is so easy to cross the line from liberty into pride, individualism and lawlessness. Such is the scenario plaguing our Christian faith these days. This has been in existence for centuries and it has been taking different diabolical forms of expression since.
Out of diverse forms of the vain imagination of God, several atrocious acts have been and still being committed in the name of God. It's such a wonder how many images of God people have crafted in their minds, a God that only they themselves know, in whose personality and authority they commit all sort of reckless acts.
We can see this in the crusades of the 19th century where "Christians" raped, maimed and stole all in the name of Christ. They perpetrated evil acts without any form of retribution.
This issue brings to memory the funny narration in the popular film I saw when I was a kid. It is Title: Desperado. There is a man in the film who will go for confession after every killing of people he carries out. This scenario is even better compared to what happens today. Nowadays Christians won't even bother about confession, they will just automatically input it into the account of limitless grace and shift the gear of sin to the next level.

The God whom anyone serves and in whom identity is found can only be portrayed by actions, therefore, rendering any form of rhetoric or knowledge without an actual tangible expression, when it matters most, is deception.

I also wonder if the true God we know will support and protect His children in their state of obvious impunity and false confidence.
Let's now go into scriptures in 2 Corinthians 6:3, the Bible says that we should not give chance for offense that the ministry be not blamed. It's clear that what ever character flaw that affects ministry is something of concern.

In fact our life conduct is the ministry, that is, how we respond to situations will determine what people will see about the ministry. We must protect it carefully.

It's funny that we don't realize how the church has been rapidly churning out atheists in recent times, all because of the gross disappointments in the Christian community and endemic dearth of a living conscience expressed in the church. We determine if people will come into the Kingdom by our dealings first with the brethren and secondly, in the world. If we can't sort that out then we should just keep our imagination of God to ourselves and let people find their alternatives.
Another scripture in Romans 14:13 says that we should be careful not to cause a stumbling block in the way of our brothers. We should be careful how we express the liberty in Christ and not behave in such a way that another person will be disappointed or have a cause to pick up an offense. The primary goal is to try all to make sure that the other brother's hope and his Christian dream is not dashed. Let's own up when we have failed and take responsibility without trying to absolve ourselves from an obvious transgression.

It's plain psychosis if we won't repent of an evil but find ways to justify the act in the name of religion or spirituality.

We will be living by ourselves and in our own world of illusion if we see life this way .
If there is a law in the land, obey, if there is a principle in a church, just follow it, if there is an instruction from above, why don't we just abide by it?

Christianity is a big responsibility.

You can't be represent one thing and live another. Let's step out of our unruly world and stop thinking the God we imagined, which was borne out of our ideas, has got our backs. A lot of us must step down from our prideful horse.
I would like to ask, whose cause are you fighting? God's cause or your own.

Fighting for our own self interest in the name of divinity is a sham and a scam.

That true God cannot be party to that. You can't do what you feel or what you like or believe what you want.

Doing this is serving a another god called INDIVIDUALISM, a subtle form of idolatry that has become a common plague.

Leaders are there to manage and regulate societies in order that our lives might not be thrown out of course and into the miseries and the dark places of heretic manipulations. Even this leaders must not be heretic. The tendency to be is higher for them.
The last scripture in this article says we should be careful not to make those that are weak stumble by the reason of our liberty -1 Corinthians 8:9. No matter how spiritual one might claim to be, no matter the amount of scripture known, prayer prayed or fasting done, the fact still remains that a believer must still live in this world for a while. He is a picture that is been watched by the world.

This liberty in Christ doesn't make him infallible or always right.

He must own up when he is wrong. God is a just God, he is not a respecter of people and he will judge accordingly no matter how affiliated someone feels he is to him. It's a big deal that out of experience, believers will like to do business with an unbeliever rather than their fellow believer because of nasty tastes that have surrounded such dealings. These experiences have ultimately caused the demise of trust and loyalty among the brethren.

It is more painful to be hurt with impunity by a close brother than to be hurt by a stranger.

This is an issue that we often want to hide rather than sort. The company of the brethren should be a fortress not an ambush. Christianity will only remain strong by the inter-subjective beliefs and experiences shared in unity. If we continue to believe different things under Christ, then we put the experience of the Christian life in grave danger.
Spirituality is walking circumspectly,
Spirituality is fulfilling all righteousness,
Spirituality is owning up to a fault and pro-actively correcting it.

Spirituality is not IMPUNITY.

Righteousness is not only what you are but mostly what you do.

Politics / Ibadan- Omi Titun Ti Ru by duyox2004: 3:14pm On Jun 05, 2019
While driving home, I was listening to a radio program on the history and character of Ibadan. It was really a lovely piece.

Ibadan is a land that has been accommodating the prosperity of non indigenes for centuries and the presenter made a comment that it was possible to spend one’s entire lifetime in Ibadan and still be fulfilled. That really got me a question. Is it really true that you can live in Ibadan and be all you want?

Of course, many folks have been in the land since their arrival on the earth. At least they’ve been availed the opportunity of having a decent education, which is abundant in the city. You can be sure to have very decent junior education and attend the premiere university if you wanted, so that area is covered. In terms of security, Ibadan is relatively peaceful. People have lived quiet lives for years, even though there have been sporadic civil unrest. Food, accommodation and shelter are also on a cheap side. And Ibadan is got a massive landmass and an healthy population.

Politics / Proscription Of The Nurtw: First Step To Road Transport Restructuring In Ibadan by duyox2004: 2:55pm On Jun 05, 2019
The latest news stating that the transport Union (NURTW) have been proscribed shows how proactive and bold this administration is.

I was going to write a comprehensive history and analysis on road safety centered on the core obligations of the Federal Road Safety Commission. However, this quick action by the governor has called for an inward look. That is, into resolving some of the crucial issues that are very important to the administration of the state and those that are indirectly involved in the political dynamics in the state.

The NURTW have had great history of being an important aspect of the development of the nation since the 1920s. However, as years went by, they gradually deviated from their core values of transporting goods, services and, people into instruments of political violence and lawlessness. The fact that they have been a force to reckon with in Ibadan’s politics- in masterminding disturbances and disruption of state security, makes their case a great place to start in the proper reorganization of state affairs.

Politics / Minutes Of The Most Anticipated Speech In Oyo State In Recent Times by duyox2004: 8:03pm On May 29, 2019
Today 29th May, 2019, history was made in the biggest state in Nigeria where a new Governor and regime was inaugurated.
Here is the speech given by the executive governor of Oyo State at the Liberty Stadium:

The new governor started his speech by apologizing for the inappropriate seating arrangements for dignitaries. This “people” approach is one that hasn’t been enjoyed from an Oyo state governor in a while.

Engr. Seyi Makinde then began his speech by mentioning the areas where Oyo state has been first since it’s existence. He mentioned the first sky scrapper, the first university, the first dual carriage lane, the first TV station and so on. He stated that his goal is make Oyo the pacesetter state that it is known to be.

The major highlights of the his speech are:
The enrollment in public schools to go up in order to take children off the streets as over 400,000 children have dropped out of school as a result of financial issues. The 3,000 naira being paid by students under the previous government is therefore scrapped. The public school doors are now wide open in Ibadan. Education standard will be improved. Oyo state is ranked 26th in West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams performance, thus the government will work on infrastructure to improve the quality of education. The state education budget will be increased to 10% of total budget to match UNESCO standard. Quality teachers will be employed and incentives given to existing teachers. He promised to donate his entire government allowance to the teachers’ pension account and seeks practical ways to restructure LAUTECH. He stated that the government’s priority is total takeover of the institution.
Attention will be given to people with disabilities. There will be a commission set up for people living with disabilities which will look towards developing a framework for equal opportunities. Tax incentives will be given to companies who hire people with disabilities.
There will be reformation of the hospital management board to deliver efficiently health care services in the state. New hospitals will not be built for the first two years as the existing ones will be rejuvenated before new ones are built.
Oyo state needs money as the states total running cost is 33% from internal revenue and 13% from Federal government allocation. The government will simplify tax payment, remove cost and stop debt enrollment. There will be some tough decisions to be taken. For Oyo state civil servants, the lowest cadre will receive 30,000 naira. However, the government account is not that buoyant and he believes the state should determine their salary structure based on their capabilities. The plan is to make Oyo state to pay above the national minimum wage and the government will arrive at the best possible decision. The government will look into the cases of those who were wrongfully dismissed from the Civil service. The focus is to implement policies which will give the tools to get people out of poverty. Engr. Seyi Makinde said he should be held on the promise of infrastructure deficit, efficient health sector, security, youth empowerment. The administration will use the instrument of focus on leadership to tackle these issues. There will be results on some of these matter in the coming weeks.
According to #Omititun, he will be the people’s government. He will run an all inclusive government regardless of class or religion. The overhead bridge leading to secretary will be called the freedom bridge from today. The bridge is for everyone not for the governor alone anymore. He said his duties is to create opportunities for all Oyo state residents regardless of where they live. As governor, he will not rest until good jobs, education and welfare of the people of Oyo state is realized.

Travel / Germany Creates Myth-busting Website To Deter Asylum Seekers by duyox2004: 12:50pm On Dec 16, 2017
Two years after the peak of the refugee crisis, Germany, which has been the most popular European destination for asylum seekers, has decided to dissuade potential new arrivals by launching a website that reveals the truth about hardships they could face.

The German Foreign Ministry launched the website, ‘Rumors about Germany – facts for migrants’, on Monday. The webpage is available in three languages – English, French and Arabic – and features small colorful posts debunking what are called myths and “big lies” about Germany, as well as providing potential migrants and asylum seekers with grim facts about their future lives in the European “dreamland.”

You may have heard life is easy, but the reality is different,” the site states, noting that those seeking a better life in Europe would most likely have to “return with no money and have to start from scratch” or “face many difficulties.”

The site particularly dampens migrants’ aspirations by informing them that Germany “does not provide a welcome payment” to those arriving on its territory. Neither would the German government provide new arrivals with an apartment or job, the site says, adding that most refugees have to live in crowded mass accommodation centers and are not allowed to work.

Being a particular nationality doesn’t guarantee the right to asylum, nor does being a child, the site warns. It then states that Germany’s “tight” new migration laws allow the authorities to “forcefully remove rejected asylum seekers more easily, especially if they have made false statements in their asylum application.”

The webpage warns that there isn’t even the guarantee that asylum seekers crossing the Mediterranean in an attempt to reach Europe would be rescued, adding that “your chances of being picked up in time are extremely small,” and that such a journey “remains very dangerous and continues to cost thousands of lives.”

At the same time, cheerful green posts promise potential refugees and migrants that they would most likely be found by border patrols while trying to enter a European country illegally, and would definitely be returned to their home countries by force, should their applications be rejected and they refuse to leave voluntary.

The site also informs would-be asylum seekers about other perils they could face on their journey to Europe, such as the risk of being kidnapped by human traffickers or random criminals, which would lead to their relatives being forced to pay a ransom for their release.

Commenting on the launch of the website, Andreas Kindl, the German Foreign Ministry's director for strategic communication, said: “The most important aim of our Rumors about Germany campaign is to not leave the human traffickers’ myths and rumors unchallenged on the internet, but to provide correct information ourselves."

However, the site not only paints a grim picture of a long and perilous struggle to achieve asylum in Germany, but also tells potential asylum seekers about new opportunities and an improving quality of life in their home countries, supported by Germany’s aid and development programs.

The site features such articles as “Stability returns to Iraq,” “Germany creates jobs in the Middle East,” and “Sudan: sowing the seeds of future growth” in an apparent attempt to make potential migrants take a more favorable look at life in their own countries. It also inconspicuously asks if they are “sure about leaving.”

Germany is far from being the first country to turn to the media and advertising in an attempt to stem the flow of refugees and migrants. In March 2016, Austria decided to run a large-scale advertising campaign to deter Afghan asylum seekers from coming to the country.

The campaign featured banner ads on more than 1,000 popular Afghan websites, as well as giant billboards and posters plastered on the sides of buses running in the five biggest Afghan cities. At that time, the Austrian authorities spent as much as €10,000 ($10,867) on the campaign, which featured slogans such as “No asylum in Austria for economic reasons!” and “Smugglers lie.
