As for payment have you asked him if he was informed it was an unpaid test to which he affirmed interest in ?

Don't ask for opinions if you don't want answers. Your post was about the quality of the work, not whether you agreed on an unpaid test.

If there was a site for comic artists or animators to showcase their work for free and to gain followership, which could subsequently turn to payments, would it be marketable?

Follow up question

Are there still comic artists and animators in Nigeria? And how do they get their art out into the world? Save for social media, is there a site that is dedicated to this concept?

I will like to get this conversation going and if there is a market already, then please share.
Literature/Writing Ads / Re: 2 Content Writers Needed For Long Term Content Writing Projects by Dvea(f): 4:25pm On Sep 30, 2023
In all honesty, the article is good. A few repetitions in the middle, but overall, it can pass. The only issue is it reads like an academic work, not a simple blog. So, if it was meant for the former, then fine, but for the latter, it used much bigger grammar that could have been simplified for the everyday reader.

It took me a while to read through because of the use of complex words. But I don't think this is enough reason not to make payment. You could only say that he didn't write in line with your tone or voice and ask him to rewrite.

Just my opinion.

Education / Need Information On Esut Sandwich/part Time School by Dvea(f): 2:45am On Jan 02, 2023
Hey Nairalanders,

Is there anyone currently studying at Esut part time program? I have a few questions and would like a direct source to help. Kindly reach out. Just a few questions from my list:

Is the part time program the same as the mature people program? Some sites say they are different others say they are the same. Just wondering because the MSP program is for 30 year Olds and a over (at least the is what I have read).

Also how is the class schedule? Evenings or weekends? How many hours daily? Is the teaching system good? Housing and accommodation, is there any for part timers? Fees?

Please only those with first hand knowledge. I've read a lot of conflicting information so them say isn't what I need now.

Family / Re: 19-Year-Old Orphan Who Refused To Abort Pregnancy After She Was Gang Raped by Dvea(f): 4:10am On Jun 21, 2022
Newpride:
I still don’t believe the pregnancy came as a result of the gang rape ...
There are many questions that needed to be answered.
1.. Was she a virgin before the incident?
2.. didn’t she tell anyone around her immediately she was gang raped?
3... why can’t she visit the hospital after the incident for flushing?
4... if anybody was aware of her bn gang raped, didn’t the person advise her to go any clinic or hospital?

At 19, she wasn’t aware that unprotected sex will lead to pregnancy and she kept quiet until the thing turn to belle.

was she expecting IPhone 9 having been gang raped unprotected without doing anything abt it?

What in God's name did you just type.

Let me tell you... virgin or not when a person is raped hey break down into nothingness. If no one knew hat girl could have very well been in a state of fear, panick, depression and more until she eventually found out that she was pregnant. Many are also too ashamed to mention I for fear of people doing what you just did now... blame her. Many are also too traumatized to speak.

Did you not read that she said no k abortion. So even if she knew and others knew she said no. At 19 she has has final say over her body. Besides you know not everyone gets terrible pregnancy symptoms. I knew a woman who was seeing her period , had a flat tummy and all and didn't know she was pregnant till she had to go to the hospital for maleria test. She was already past 4 months.

Finally this flushing thing doesn't always work shae you know. Sperms can survive for up to seven days and if no done 100% (which doesn't always happen) she could still get pregnant.

So before you jump to label a rape victim a runs girl, Think. People react differently to situations like this.
Family / Re: I Want To Abort This Pregnancy Without My Husband Knowing by Dvea(f): 3:54am On Jun 21, 2022
Psalme91:
We are blessed with seven children girls and boys and I have been on family planning after having my twin boys last year in October. But I am surprised that the contraception has failed and I am now 4 weeks pregnant with baby number 8. I don't really want to have this baby because my hands are full with kids and chores I have been doing it all alone since I don't have any house help ( any girl I bring to my house my husband will sleep with them) I have decided not to bring anyone else to stay with us. He is still cheating and doesn't really have my time or our children times . When I has our boys after 5 girls I tought everything will change and he will stop cheating but it has been worser than that. I don't want to bring another child to this world to suffer like the others and I want to terminate the pregnancy as soon as possible without him knowing but I don't know if it will be a very good thing to do.
Please advice me if I should go ahead or not ?

So this is my two cent. I hope it helps.

First no abortion rather there are many alternatives and some comments have mentioned them. But I must warn this may require a lo of deception on your part.

First option

Do what a commentor said. Have the kid bu plan for a closed adoption. DON'T jus drop them at orphanages cause those ones a hole different ball game. You have a few choices here.

1. Met the owner of an orphanage and state your decision for a closed adoption. That is, directly between you and the Adopting parent. You will meet them get to know them and be satisfied that they are to your standard and also genuine.

2. Most nurses and midwifes in maternity or fertility clinics know people looking for a quiet adoption of a new born. The couple will be at the hospital on the day of your birth and take the child immediately.

But as I said a great deal of deception is needed. You will need to speak to the doctor or midwife that will help you. So they can legally claim your new born was a still born. Of course you need to have all these in some form of writing. I doubt you can afford a lawyer and most lawyers may not take this case so come up with a contract that is simple with clear terms and let ever party sign.

Now in the off chance that you want to keep that child. There are NGOs that can help you start up something no matter how little to fend for you all. It ma take a while but there are.

Now concluding advice. Your contraception can fail. They are not full proof. Although personaly I don't encourage it in your situation it is the best for you and your kids. Get your tubes tied or have a temporary implantation. It will help.

Secondly I ge that you need skinship and husbandly love but you have a right to say no to sex. I also fear that you might have an irregular cycle and getting a gynecologist to help you get it back on track will cost too much so simply say no. There are local ways of knowing your fertal days from checking discharges and such. They are not 100% but they help.

In the end please start thing about yourself and your kids. You clearly don't have a husband. Start living like one and face yourself. I know it might be impossible but get a job as a nanny or cleaner at a nursery at he worst case. This way you still have funds but a least you close early.

With this many kids I expect that the older ones are more hands on o assist you. You and I know that your journey is a long one. Children don't grow up fast you have at least 20 years of raising left so get proactive and forget that husband of yours.

If you plan to keep this child in your care then you need to ensure it's the last. Good luck though and may God be with you.

For one you know that title is simply click bait, and after receiving a work that I wouldn't sell for 1naira from a guy who feels it should worth nothing less than 5naira, I was greatly angered!

I feel shortchanged that some people who aren't halfway up to my skill level are seeking higher while those that knows how to aim higher are hiding the knowledge then come around to do what I regard as “mocking”.

There's no need telling a man who's down that he is down, he knows that already! Maybe try telling him how to get up

You are right, but I think at this stage in your life as a Nigerian, you should know that people generally just misbehave. I don't get moved anymore when someone claim to be making millions. It's their luck not mine. If I tell you how many roads I have taken to make legit money, you will shock. But leave that one aside. Life isn't equal and yes, many people below you will earn more than you. It happens, I still work as a third party writer with clients who will not for the life of them open the work to check. Their own is just to submit the work and they are thriving. Like I am sure of three of my clients who can not write even if their life depends on it but they are working for big companies.

My own is just to make my money, I don't care about them and their earning, hence my point of never settle for underneath your worth. You think you are pissed, what would you say about me who introduced someone to writing and she made her first 600k in bulk, me I never see 600k bulk before. I am happy for her and moving my own ground. But all this is simply me saying, there is no point feeling bad about not thriving as fast as others, I'm okay with my own clock as long as I can pay for Netflix and watch Korean series and maybe by small chops tray. Everything else is just jara.

Buzz me if you like. Maybe I can be of some help to you.

If you feel hurt with the term greedy, how do you think calling someone’s earnings “peanuts”? All fingers are not equal and some people will inadvertently be placed by nature to work twice as hard as others, it’s not a curse!

But your discouraging words are what keep many people like me from taking the only available offer because we keep dreaming of that “oil job”.

Imagine a shelf worker shaming a fuel attendant for his pay, Just because they are the same age. Do you think if the fuel attendant had the same opportunity as the other guy, he wouldn't achieve even better?

I for one, don't have an immediate grass to grace story and I'm just trying to encourage someone with slow progress like me, that it's okay too

Y’all create this fast lane and set in stone rule that makes people who can't keep up feel worthless. How about instead of bragging how much you are paid, you share tips on how you secured such pay?

Y’all always have one niece or nephew with mind blowing rate, how about you shut it? If we can't get it, why should we stress ourselves aiming??

Y’all claim to ignore the fact that many big gigs go to relatives and already known acquaintances. No big company is coming to Nairaland to source for their content creator.

So until we dig up our 1talent and trade with it till we match up to those the master gave 3 and 5, we'll forever be in the dark.

Thank you!

The start of this issue is that you called people greedy, I only told you its not greed its knowing your worth. No one is saying we can all make millions. I am not and Ive been writing 5 years. Its not about making millions but about settling for anything. Again I agree that not everyone can start big, but like I said before don't tell people to settle for anything. I have said this to you in my reply twice, everyone has a different destiny. Exactly what you claim now. Your time and mine are not the same, doesn't mean that you call everyone greedy for refusing to start small. Your initial post was titled the greed of Nairaland writers. Which again I say is wrong. It is completely wrong to say because another person isn't willing to start with a low pay the person is automatically greedy.

Your point is that we can't all start the same and people have been brain washed to wait for the gold. That is unfortunate because gold doesn't just come to you. Besides there are many groups, links, books, and sites to help you upscale, what you should say is you don't have the source. Let's be honest half the people who brag about making it big aren't, they just want to sell their book or course. But that is their own business.

Your anger, I get. You have tried to upscale and it isn't working as fast as you would like. But again, calling those who don't want to start small greedy is wrong cause everyone has their own destiny. I think I have overemphasized my point and if you don't get it then really nothing can change that. But anyway you are right those who have gotten a glimpse of the way should share it. I will do just that, actually I will do even better. I will create a WhatsApp group strictly to give free tips on getting better jobs. I am not sure how many people I can help but it just might favour someone.

And I would just like to end on a friendly note. Don't get angry at people who don't share their secrets, it wasn't easy to come by. Many people are not also very genuine if you help them scale up, we also have the issue of scams and more. You have got to protect your money ground. Also because someone has succeeded in one end and is flaunting it, doesn't mean they have everything. I can bet there is something you have that I want badly but can't get. In one way or the other we all have things that make us feel worthless. But if we all act on that and call everyone greedy or selfish, or some other term then we will have more mental health issues than we already do in Nigeria. Be grateful for what you have, work your way to what you want, and never undervalue yourself.

Thanks. For the sake of clarity, 1.5 what?

That was an example, not particularly referring to your job. But 1.5 naira per word. If you have a foreign or big client state your price. If you want to be on the safe side, simply say you are open to negotiation. Then meet at the middle.

First of all, no one is saying you can’t earn 300naira/per word in Nigeria. What I’m saying is those opportunities are 1 in a million!

If by any means the cooperation hiring can afford to pay their writers 1000naira/per word, they definitely should! But you have to remember we also have budding bloggers, with blogs that turn in little to no revenue yet, so why do you think they can afford that??

There’s a reason why the tomatoes sold for 500 in your local market can go for 1,500 in shoprite, it’s not a different product but a different audience!

And by any means I’m not seeking an A1 academic writing, in fact i want a work that’s already on the net, i just need a little creative touch here and there!

If the pay is beneath you, cool! But don’t come here making it extra difficult for others to carve an honest niche for themselves with your high set standards.

I will reply you in succession to your reply. True it's a one in a million chance of making it big immediately, but as I said, everyone's destiny is different. You instantly calling anyone who doesn't want to earn 1 naira per word at the start, greedy, is wrong. Everyone's ambition and motivation varies.

Next you are right, Not every pocket is the same and of course there are small rate payers, no doubt. However not all writers are the same, and even the newbies are not the same. I have met first time writers who are 10 times better than so called writers with years of experience. You must understand that skill matters and if you believe you have the skill, you can sell it for as high as you deem fit. And not be tagged greedy. That is why there are tailors who have been sewing for decades who cannot stand the skill of a newbie who just learnt to pick up a scissors. My point is skill, skill makes you worth anything you demand. Skill is what people want. Years does not guarantee skill, it only guarantees experience.

I am not making it hard for anyone to make their mark. And my write up will not change the fact that there are writers who will take .50 naira per word. I only replied you because you decided to tag every writer who doesn't want to start small greedy. I want to correct that notion. Knowing your skill and time and refusing to be underpaid is not greed, it's knowing your worth. How far that worth takes you, is not the business of anyone. Make your honest niche with writers who are okay with starting small, but don't make those who don't want to, feel bad about their choices. Everyone is different and every destiny is different. Know this and know peace.

Plus it is this desire to work 1job and lola fr 1month before looking fr another 1gig to keep up the lifestyle is why many people will work till they drop dead!

Couldn’t be me! Leave us with the poverty mentality so we can be forever on guard against it!

Who works one job and keep quiet for a month. That is a poverty mentality. Anyone who isn't constantly working to top off what they have either already has a lot or doesn't get the concept of making money and being financially free. And just to correct a notion. I have met people who have worked every day of their life and still had nothing to show for it, even with a minimalistic lifestyle. Holding firm to a poverty mentality so you can be on guard is still a poverty mentality. I'm no financial expert but successful people do not fear poverty they delight in the prospect of success. Hello @ succyblinks
Cc: @ Dvea, Curtysaxel
I'm a budding writer. I recently got a gig writing social media and website content. The client asked how much I charge and I mentioned 20/words based on online research I carried out.

Your post is making me have a rethink, however.

I also got a memoir writing job to be turned over in a month. Do you have any idea what is appropriate to charge or the best arrangement to make?

Your advice will be highly appreciated.

It is not about a standard rate. I always consider two things, my client history and importantly how much work you have to face. Beyond anything else think about your time. Cause if you are going to end up spending 8 hours a day for 10 days, for a 5k word book, you should earn something more than 1.5. Then consider the client. You cannot expect to make all the money in one gig, but doesn't mean you should take peanuts. I get that not all clients have the same pockets but also don't be on the loosing end always. Win some and lose some. That's my opinion.

I think this post is long overdue and I’m fully prepared to counter y’all emotional reactions with pure facts.

I see lots of threads advising writers to not accept “peanuts” for their work. Some of this people go ahead to brag how they are paid 100s of thousands for their work, and unfortunately they mislead a lot of budding writers, ending their career even before they start.

Firstly, do y’all bother to ask how long those collecting that huge pay has been working for? All of this people have years and years of writing experience under their belt, so of course their work attracts better pay. And if you check well this people started off with 1naira or even less. I for one did!

I see some amateur writers who think writing articles is all about changing a few words in the post they outrightly copied from google just to beat the plagiarism checker

Lol! I really pity the impatient and greedy folks who wants to be paid 10naira per word from the start. My brother/sister, you go old!!

Everyone are being advised to seek international gigs, but are they easy to come by? Especially for people with zero experience. In fact, many of those claiming they are paid higher, do so to reduce the labor force so they can have all the rejected 1.5 gigs to themselves, lol.

I currently have one greedy folk on my hands who believes 1.3per word is too small to do a good job, lol! So how will I be encouraged to pay you 5naira per word?

Y’all don’t want to start from the grassroots and because of that, you can never succeed as a writer; at least not in Nigeria.

God forbid I pay a writer I’m unsure of their skill higher than 1.5naira, take it or leave it. Y’all want to make 1million naira per month, I would advise you to try yahuu or richtuals!

A 1.5naira gig can pay you 150k monthly if you can complete 5000words every day fr 20days. Please I ask, which job in Nigeria currently pays up to that amount for the entire month?

Y’all have been shortsighted by greed and its disgusting to say the least. Keep searching for that million-dollar job, while your mates make a sustainable income while gathering experience and making connections that inherently gets them a better pay.

I'll drop my pen here and as for you https://www.nairaland.com/hayatulimisticor
I'll be the last person you scam, I swear on that!

Just one thing to say to you, anyone who expects a good writer to complete 5k words daily, knows nothing about good content. That's why people are seeking foreign jobs, cause no foreigner in their right minds will expect you to writer 5k words a day. 5K words daily equals bad writing, take it or leave it. In my five years of writing and in all the collaborations and projects I have done, the worst I have ever expected anyone or anyone has ever expected me to write a day is 3k words and not for a whole month. Do you get that people need to eat, sleep, and do other personal tasks. This is not even speaking of research, writers block, flow, writing, editing, the horrible power supply, and any other contingency that may arise.

I take you side that you cannot expect to start making millions from the get go especially with little experience. But I also say, its about knowing the right channel. I have done jobs where clients say experience doesn't matter just diligence and a sound command of English. So no it is not ludacris for people to start earning 5 naira on their first job. My sister's first job paid 3 naira, I gave her the connection but I began with 300 naira per 1k words. By the way all these are Nigerian contacts. The point is, your opinion is yours, and I respect that, but do not call it greed. Call it ambition and hope. It's all about what your destiny sets for you. Oh and one more thing 1.3 is really small with the economy, come on. It's bad enough that people still get paid that, let's not justify it by calling them greedy. That is a poverty mentality.

I am in need of three or four writers. Specifically I am looking for casino and gambling writers. Everything from sports, casino, crypto, and such. Note that you will be writing more of reviews and not any other type of content. I am looking for those with experience and those who have all the needed services or at least most. I honestly need people who can completely take the load off my hand without having me spending time editing.

My requirements are;

Premium Grammarly account
A laptop (non- negotiable) the only criteria for wavier is that you can prove to effectively work and edit without one. Which is nearly impossible because plagiarism check on Grammarly requires a laptop.
Experience in the said niche
WhatsApp availability

What you should know about working for me;
You will work Monday to Saturday. There are lots of tasks but of course there will be down days
You contact line must be accessible during the day
You will be paid 2 naira over time and if you prove good we can negotiate a higher pay.

Please contact me on my WhatsApp 0.8.1.6.3.4.6.7.7.8.5
Please contact with your name, and two samples of your recent gambling and casino articles. Note that I will be concentrating on your use of English and your use of relevant niche terms.
Please I have no room for new writers or those with poor command of English, if you cannot write for foreign audience please read and move on.

Thanks.
