the link recommends that i take out the charger, take out the battery, open the back cover and take out the cmos battery for about 30 minutes.
I tried this, and when i restarted i loaded default CMOS settings -> then the system went off again!
When i started again it managed to get to the boot loader for Windows 7 / Win XP but when i press Enter the system goes off again
Unfortunately this solution did not work for me, at a lost at what could be the problem now.

I have two chargers and the laptop powers off on both of them, heck it even powers off on battery power.

Yes its compatible (has dv5t written on it), used it for 48 hours without problems, looks new to me as well!

Here's what happens:

1. The laptop goes off completely either when connected to power or with battery (alone)
2. It does not restart (I have to push the power button to start it up again)
3. Its so bad now that i can't even get to the point of pressing F8

N.B: I changed my laptop battery sometime this week, (been using it without a battery while now)

HP Dv5t Problem 

So the laptop i've had for 2 years now suddenly develops this problem. When i turn it on, it boots up to the windows logon screen  and then shuts off completely. Sometimes it doesnt even get to the logon screen before turning off. I took out the battery and tried turning it on, this time it took just 3 seconds to go off.

I would appreciate it if any one who has had an experience with this or who has some suggestions would help me out here.

I am no expert, but i know you can use Freenas to setup one easily, there are other OEMs in the market that provide commercial NAS storage solution though.
Depending on what you're trying to achieve, i think Freenas should do it.
