dckng16:I can't go on an Uber trip to Badagry. It's a total waste. Except of course you just want to go on an adventure. For one, you can't get a trip there. It's not under the Uber service area. I usually admonish drivers not to go on all trips. Trips to Badagry for one would be an off Uber thing. |

The 40ft, 80,000lb beast rose out of the water in Mountain Bay, California, almost within touching distance of a shocked pair of kayakers who couldn't believe their eyes. Humpback whales are very curious and playful animals and get very friendly with kayakers and boaters. Laws state that nobody can approach a whale within 100 yards of them but it decided to take them by surprise instead. No need to zoom in! Extraordinary moment gigantic 40ft humpback whale surfaced within arm's reach of a stunned holidaymaker. The humpback whale has been described as the largest mammal, bigger than the elephant. The humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is a species of baleen whale. One of the larger rorqual species, adults range in length from 12–16 metres (39–52 ft) and weigh approximately 36,000 kilograms (79,000 lb). The humpback has a distinctive body shape, with unusually long pectoral fins and a knobbly head. An acrobatic animal known for breaching and slapping the water with its tail and pectorals, it is popular with whale watchers off Australia, New Zealand, South America, Canada, and the United States. Martin Manley hated waking up early, but on his 60th birthday he did -- or more likely, never went to sleep the night before. At 5 a.m. he entered a police station parking lot in a suburb of Kansas City, Kansas, walked to a spot beneath a tree on its far south end and pulled out his phone. He dialed 911. He said this: "I want to report a suicide at the south end of the parking lot of the Overland Park Police Station at 123rd and Metcalf." Then, the blogger and former sports reporter for the Kansas City Star pulled out his Saturday Night Special, a .380 pistol, and shot himself in the head. The statistics -- Manley loved statistics; his "efficiency index" is still used by the NBA to rate players -- tell us that about 150 other Americans committed suicide that day, that somewhere around 38,000 of them will do so this year. But chances are none of those people provided the world such a detailed picture of the event, the when, where, why and how of it. Because for more than a year, Manley had been secretly building a sweeping, intricate website that meticulously explained just that. He set it to publish later on the day he died. Call it death in the time of Facebook. Never before in the history of human communication have suicide notes been such a public affair, easily accessible to the masses and potentially lasting forever. "Let me ask you a question," Manley wrote on his website, which he divided into 34 categories and 44 subcategories. "After you die, you can be remembered by a few-line obituary for one day in a newspaper when you're too old to matter to anyone anyway ... OR you can be remembered for years by a site such as this. That was my choice and I chose the obvious." 'A natural way to communicate' Manley's site may be unique in its scope and tone, which could be described, in parts, as upbeat. But sharing death on the Web is not new. In the early days of the Internet, reports sprung up of "Internet suicide clubs," built around websites and chat rooms where young people would discuss taking their own lives and, in some cases, make plans to meet and perform the act together. It's unclear how prevalent the groups have ever been, although Manley wrote that he studied the pros and cons of various methods of suicide online. In 2010, a Japanese man live-streamed his own suicide, hanging himself as users of an online chat forum alternately urged him to seek help or egged him on. A morbid image of the 24-year-old man apparently hanging from a horizontal rod made the rounds online afterward. Two years earlier, a Florida teen similarly trained a webcam on himself as he died in bed, after posting a suicide note on his blog in which he wrote that he had taken a drug overdose. Lawrence Calhoun, a professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, said the reasons people want to share their deaths on the Web appear to be, in some ways, common sense. "First, young people have grown up using social media, so for them that is just a natural way of communicating with other people," he told CNN. "Second, posting one's thoughts on social media is likely to reach a lot more people than simply leaving one hard copy note; so, perhaps one reason to leave a 'suicide note' on social media is to reach as many people as possible." At 60, Manley was no digital native. But the Web seems to have been perfectly tailored for someone like him. He reveled in spending long hours alone at the computer, poring over data and sharing his findings with folks in far-flung places who were similarly interested in the esoteric minutia of crunching sports numbers. "I have communicated with hundreds of readers over the years and I've made a lot of internet friends," Manley wrote in his final blog post. "I'm impressed that there really are intelligent people still left out there considering the decline in our educational standards." 'I didn't want to die' At least according to his site, Manley's death was also a numbers game. He claimed to be in good health and happy. He was financially sound, with an investment in gold worth $200,000. He said he wasn't depressed -- "anyone who says I was is either ignorant or a liar" -- and sang in his church choir, enjoyed hobbies like his monthly poker game and claimed to not be lonely. He said he just decided 60 was old enough. His most productive years were behind him, he feared the infirmity of old age and simply wanted to go out at a time and in a manner of his own choosing. "I didn't want to die," he wrote. "If I could have waved a magic wand and lived for 200 years, I would have. Unfortunately, that's not an option. "Therefore, since death is inevitable, the better question is... do I want to live as long as humanly possible OR do I want to control the time and manner and circumstances of my death? That was my choice (and yours). I chose what was most appealing to me." In the days afterward, some observers saw other factors, though. Manley was twice divorced. He had no children, no nieces or nephews. His parents had both died: his mother in 2002, then his father in 2007. He had one sister and one brother and neither lived nearby or visited much. Almost all of the recent photographs of him on his website appeared to be "selfies." Those closest to Manley, though, backed his version. "Well maybe he needed help, but he would never have admitted it or accepted it," his sister, Barbie Flick, wrote on a memorial site set up for him by a friend. "As far as lonely -- I believe that everyone who knew Martin, very much enjoyed his company." When Yahoo, which Manley prepaid to host the site for five years, took it down, Flick fought to have it restored, saying her brother's final wish should be honored. Numerous "mirror" versions of the site, including one by people identifying as members of the "hacktivist" group Anonymous, popped up soon after, preserving access to Manley's final thoughts for those who are interested. "I believe that he knew he could be around friends as much as he liked," Flick said. "I know I never got to see him as much as I would have like(d) to. He just really enjoyed being alone and working on his blog or researching this or that." 'Something I'm thinking about doing' Todd Weller, who created the memorial site, wrote that in recent months, Manley leaned on his technology skills. "He was asking me very specifically how to do certain things like, how to post an mp3 file or how to use FTP, etc.," he wrote. "I told him that on some (of) these things I could do it for him way faster than I could tell him how to do it. To which he would offer a lame excuse like, it's just something I'm thinking about doing." Efforts to reach Weller and Flick for this story, through the memorial site and other online messages, were unsuccessful. They and others remembered a unique and quirky man, facts Manley readily acknowledged. He ate one meal a day, sometimes nothing at all, and had "consistently inconsistent" sleep habits. At one point, he experimented with staying awake 36 hours at a time, then sleeping for 12. He had a collection of 25 fedora hats, boasted about wearing the same pair of $12 Wal-Mart shoes for 12 years and played a monthly game of dollar poker that welcomed obscure variations of the game with names like "Three Turds" and "No Peak." He had a collection of more than 1,000 movies on VHS tape, along with a computer database that would sort them by title, rating, year and genre. (He had his own rating system for them, too. He only handed out 21 perfect "10" scores over the years and his absolute favorite film was the 1986 adaptation of "Little Shop of Horrors." And it appears Manley may have even played a practical joke to tweak the greedy in his long farewell. In the section of his site detailing his collection of gold and silver coins, a random set of GPS coordinates appears, along with a tiny thumbnail image of Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Police say about 20 people, some with GPS units, metal detectors and shovels, showed up at the gardens and started digging. But the joke was on them -- Manley's family told police he had given the gold away. 'I am broken-hearted but I do not begrudge what he did," Flick, his sister, wrote on the memorial site. "He always had a difficult time conforming to this world. He was truly like a square peg in a round hole." 'Thrilled to death' Hours before his death, Manley scheduled a final post to his blog, Sports in Review, to publish and sent e-mails and overnight letters via FedEx to Flick, Weller and others telling them what he'd done. With him was a detailed message for police, apologizing for subjecting them to the suicide and explaining that his family and friends would be contacting them in a few hours. He'd left them the number to the police station. So, did Manley, as he predicted, spend his final moments "thrilled" that he'd been able to leave this world having created a digital legacy for himself? Calhoun wonders. "In the immediate time period preceding the final act, people tend, perhaps somewhat irrationally, to see escaping from the pain and distress as only possible by ending their lives," he said. "It is not uncommon, however, for people who attempt and 'fail' to be grateful that they did not succeed, perhaps in part because they have come to see alternatives to the only path they could see at the time." Manley would have argued, according to friends -- would have argued passionately. "I guarantee you from having imagined my way through it a hundred times, the only thing going through my head was asking forgiveness, remembering those whom I love, being glad I was able to end it the way I wanted and thrilled to death that I left this website," he wrote. "Don't weep for me dying alone. We ALL die alone." source: [http://adeyemidavid..com/2013/08/man-who-blogged-his-own-death.html]

A medical doctor who is also the medical director of City Convalescent Clinic, committed Suicide yesterday at his residence, 13, Aliu Street, Kosofe by Ile-Iwe Bus-stop, Ketu, Lagos. The body of the deceased was found by his wife dangling from the ceiling fan in one of the rooms of their two-storey building, which also houses a clinic. Reasons why he took his life was not known as no note was left behind. It was gathered from a neighbour of the deceased that they woke up this morning and heard people wailing from the clinic and when they got there the wife of the deceased, who wept uncontrollably, narrated how she discovered the lifeless body of her late husband hanging from the ceiling this morning. Disu said from what he gathered from the widow, they both slept together in one of their rooms but when she noticed that the deceased was no longer with her, she decided to check in the vacant rooms. Disu stated further that the wife, while wailing, said she couldn’t phantom why her middle-aged husband would decide to commit suicide. “The wife of the deceased is yet to come to terms with the reality that her husband is no more. From what she said, her late husband left her in their room. And after waiting for a while, she decided to look for her husband only for her to find the lifeless body hanging from a ceiling fan in an adjoining room,” Disu said A woman, identified as Iya Kafayat, described the deceased as an easy going man who was always ready to treat an ailing patient that comes to his hospital. Iya Kafayat, who was close to tears while speaking with our correspondent, wondered what could have prompted the deceased to take his life. “I don’t think it is an ordinary thing. Maybe he was charmed into committing suicide but I don’t want to believe that because only the Almighty Allah knows what actually went wrong,” she said. One of the onlookers in front of the clinic, Okechukwu Obinna said he is still in shock over why a loving man would decide to commit suicide, when things are apparently going on well for him. An elderly woman who had known the deceased for close to two decades said the late Medical Director could have killed himself as a result of pressure from his erstwhile wife. According to her, the deceased was married to his first wife for 10 years without her bearing him a child. “He had to marry the present wife who bore him the two kids he left behind,” the woman said. She added that the hospital, where the deceased committed suicide, had been shut for close to 15 years before it was reopened. Prophet Elijah Iretiola Ajanaku, Tope Alabi's erstwhile spiritual father, has been confirmed dead. This was confirmed by a team of medical doctors late yesterday. Conditions surrounding His final demise is still unknown and mysterious. What is so confusing is the role played by the Ogboni cult. A very reliable source whispered that, two days ago, 27 Ogboni members visited his place and were said to have asked every occupant to evacuate his room. Having spent some time with his corpse, they left, a close source revealed. It was also confirmed that the Oro cult group, since his sickness, has been shouting his name with all sorts of incantations to appease their god. The man, according to his church members, was confirmed finally dead last night and his remains, the church publicist said, has been deposited in the morgue but the Ogboni group, a source hinted, has warned the church members not to go ahead with his funeral without consulting them first; what this simply implies is that, the late pastor might have got his power from them and not directly from God. Below is official statement issued by the church to announce his demise: ‘The death has been announced of Prophet Elijah Iretiola Ajanaku whose death was confirmed by a team of doctors on Thursday night after several vigil of prayers since Saturday evening when his health deteriorated. Prophet Ajanaku who hailed from the Owo Ope family in Gbongan is survived by his wife, Joy and two children Stella and Apotieri. His remains has been deposited at the Military Mortuary, Yaba, Lagos. Though he was born a Moslem over 40 years ago in Gbongan, he moved to Lagos in the 90s and settled in Ipaja Ayobo area where he acquired skills in many vocations and engaged in several trades before his encounter with God. He founded and shepherded the Christ Revival Victory Chapel International, Ayobo, Ipaja, Lagos and rose to become the President of The Ajanaku World Outreach, a ministry devoted to the spread of the gospel outside the church. His last mission unaccomplished was Idoani For Christ, slated for September 30 and October 1, 2013 in Idoani, Ondo State. Until his death, he was a widely travelled evangelist with remarkable crusades and prophetic healings around the world. Burial arrangements will be announced by the family and the church soon’ source: [http://adeyemidavid..com/2013/08/was-pastor-ajanaku-really-ogboni-cult.html]

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau's just-released "Hot Wheels" list, which examines annual vehicle-theft data submitted by law-enforcement agencies across the country to the National Crime Information Center to determine the makes and models most-frequently reported stolen during the previous year. As usual Honda Accords and Civics by far were the most-stolen vehicles in 2012, totaling 58,596 and 47,037, respectively, with full-size Ford pickups coming in a distant third with 26,770 thefts. Older Accords and Civics eclipsed newer Hondas in theft frequency, which NICB attributes to improved anti-theft technology. Most of the makes and models return from the previous list; the only newcomers were the Nissan Altima (No. 9) and Nissan Maxima (No. 10), knocking the Ford Explorer and Nissan Sentra off this year's roster. NICB, which is based in Des Plaines, Ill., noted that the latest list differs from previous years as it reports the top 10 most-stolen vehicles by make and model only, irrespective of model year. In previous rankings, in an effort to create a more varied report, only one make/model/year would appear in the top 10, even though other model years of the same vehicle would have earned a position. For example, last year's No. 1 placeholder was the 1994 Honda Accord, as opposed to this year, when it's simply the Honda Accord with all model years combined in its total. Also new this year is the addition of a list of the top 25 most stolen vehicles specifically from model-year 2012. The top 10 most-stolen vehicles overall in 2012, followed by their respective totals, were: 1. Honda Accord, 58,596 2. Honda Civic, 47,037 3. Ford pickup (full size), 26,770 4. Chevrolet pickup (full size), 23,745 5. Toyota Camry, 16,251 6. Dodge Caravan, 11,799 7. Dodge pickup (full size), 11,755 8. Acura Integra, 9,555 9. Nissan Altima, 9,169 10. Nissan Maxima, 6,947 The top 10 most-stolen model-year 2012 vehicles are: 1. Nissan Altima, 921 2. Chevrolet Impala, 778 3. Chevrolet Malibu, 727 4. Toyota Camry, 665 5. Ford Fusion, 655 6. Ford pickup (full size), 595 7. Ford Focus, 523 8. Chrysler 200, 449 9. Dodge Charger, 416 10. Dodge Avenger, 412 "Although the FBI is predicting a 1.3 percent increase in 2012 vehicle thefts over 2011's number — reversing an eight-year trend — the overall vehicle theft picture is still positive," NICB stated in a news release. "The peak year for vehicle thefts was 1991 with 1,661,738. If the FBI's preliminary 2012 vehicle theft estimate holds, there will have been roughly 724,672 thefts. "That's a national decrease of over 50 percent since 1991 with many states seeing even better numbers." source: [adeyemidavid..com] |
https://cdn.grindtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/3-in-1.jpg A sea creature was on thursday discovered along the coastline of Luis Siret Beach in Villaricos, Spain. It featured what appears to be horns on its head. It was discovered in the advanced stages of decomposition. A woman first discovered the head and then found the body farther down the beach, according to ThinkSpain.com. The entire carcass with the head stretched 13 feet. “A lady found one part and we helped her retrieve the rest,” said Maria Sanches of Civil Protection in Cuevas. “We have no idea what it was. It really stank.” https://cdn.grindtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/large-photo-.jpg The find caused widespread speculation as to what it could be, some humorously suggesting it was a link to the Loch Ness Monster or was some sort of sea dragon or water dinosaur. Others surmised it was a mutant fish or some sort of shark species. The best guess here is an oarfish. “It’s hard to know what we’re dealing with,” A PROMAR (Programa en Defensa de la Fauna Marina-Sea Life Defense Program) spokesman Paco Toledano told Ideal.es Ameria, according to Inexplicata. “It’s very decomposed and we cannot identify what it is. “Perhaps we could learn something more from the bones, but to be precise, it would be necessary to perform a genetic analysis, which is very expensive and who would pay for it? “Anyway, we have submitted the information to colleagues with more experience and knowledge to see if they can tell us something more specific.” Toledano did shed some light on the horns of the sea creature, however. He said they are actually bones that have fallen out of place. “It’s not a longhorn cowfish, that’s for sure,” he joked. [http://adeyemidavid..com/2013/08/horned-sea-monster-washed-ashore-in.html]

The Federal Government will before Sunday meet with university councils and vice-chancellors to update them on some of the decisions it had reached in its bid to end the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The Chairman of the National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy Assessment Implementation Committee of the universities, Governor Gabriel Suswam, made this known on Tuesday after President Goodluck Jonathan met behind closed doors with key officials of his administration over the almost two months’ old strike. The officials included Vice-President Namadi Sambo; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim; the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadome; the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqqayat Rufa’i; and the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu. ASUU, however, said shortly after the meeting ended that the strike would not be called off because the Federal Government was not sincere in its efforts to end the dispute. It was learnt that the Tuesday meeting afforded the government officials taking part in the negotiations with the striking university teachers the opportunity to brief the President on the latest development. Suswam, who is also the governor of Benue State, told State House correspondents after the meeting that substantial progress had been made in the negotiations. He expressed the hope that the strike would be called off soon based on some of the mechanisms that had been put in place to move university education forward. The governor said while the issues surrounding the NEEDS assessment had been concluded to some extent, those bordering on the earned allowance component being handled by the SGF were pending. Suswam said, “As you must have heard, the Federal Government made an offer of N30bn to assist the various councils of our universities to be able to pay the earned allowances. “There is also N100bn and that is why the Minister of Finance, the SGF, the ministers of education and labour as well as the Chief of Staff, the VP and myself have just risen from a meeting to take some decisions that would end the strike soon. The President has instructed us on what to do and he has shown a lot of commitments by starting a project worth about N100bn in all the universities in about 61 universities in the country. “So we are hoping that we will be able to see the end of the strike very soon if at the end of the day, ASUU is satisfied with the measures that we have so far taken . “The Federal Government will also be meeting with the university councils and vice-chancellors of our universities within the week towards updating them on some of the decisions taken.” The governor added that the meeting with the varsity councils was necessary because earned allowances had to be certified by the management and councils of the universities. He said since the Federal Government had offered to assist the councils with N30bn, it was important for them to go and verify and pay the people who are actually entitled to the allowances. “I think that the government had demonstrated some substantial faith . Yes, if ASUU said that this is the amount of money that the Federal Government is owing them and the government has shifted ground from its initial posture, it means we are moving forward. With a N100bn available now for addressing the physical infrastructure deficit in our universities, I think the Federal Government has done quite well to have moved to where we are today,” he added. But ASUU has said after the meeting which held in Jonathan’s office in the Presidential Villa, that the Federal Government was only using propaganda to curry public support rather than facing the issues raised by it. A member of the National Executive Council of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Adesola, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that theN30bn offered to the striking lecturers as earned allowances was even worse than “where we were before the deadlocked meeting on Monday.” The government, he said, had not shown enough commitment towards the settlement of the conflict. According to him, the government only offered N30bn without saying anything on when the balance of the earned allowances would be paid. He also said that the declaration by the government that it had approved N100bn for the development of infrastructure in the universities was a mere propaganda. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress has asked the government to honour its agreement with ASUU in order to end the strike which began on July 1. The APC, in a statement on Tuesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said ASUU’s demand for N87bn was not open to government’s negotiation. The statement reads, ‘’The N87bn that ASUU is demanding represents earned allowances hence cannot be renegotiated. “In any case, this amount pales into insignificance when placed side by side the N1tr that has been spent on federal legislators in the past eight years; or the frivolity involved in a government minister travelling to China to negotiate a $1bn loan in a chartered jet (with its attendant costs) and with a retinue of officials who earned generous estacode in hard currency.” It said ASUU was not making any fresh demand beyond the agreement it reached with the government in 2009. “Agreements are meant to be honoured, and breaching them comes with some consequences,” the statement added. The party said while the Federal Government refused to honour its own side of the agreement with ASUU since 2009, “it could pay out N3tn in non-existent fuel subsidies to fat cats”. It added that in place of ASUU strike, the Federal Government preferred to spend N1tn annually “to maintain the jets in the Presidential fleet and do little or nothing to prevent the stealing of 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day.” It condemned the “non-chalance” of those who should be working round the clock to resolve the crisis, especially the Minister of State for Education, Nyeson Wike. The APC claimed that instead of focusing on the problem, Wike “was launching vigilance groups and dancing ‘palongo’ around town when the nation’s public universities are shut and students are languishing.” Reacting, Wike’s Special Assistant on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said “no administration has impacted on education like the Jonathan administration.” He said Wike had actively participated in the process of resolving the ASUU crisis, with the Federal Government team led by the SGF. source: [http://adeyemidavid..com/2013/08/fg-to-meet-varsity-councils-and-vcs.html] |
Lady Gaga is willing to get naked for her art. The singer, who has been recuperating from a nasty hip injury sustained earlier this year, underwent a process called The Abramovic Method that's supposed to help the participant "both perform and observe long durational work." Under the instruction of performance artist Marina Abramovic, Gaga hums, meditates in water, and then walks through woods wearing nothing but a pair of boots. Of course, this being Gaga, the experience was captured on camera for the interested (the video is NSFW). The Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI) explains in the video's description that Gaga joined Abramovic in upstate New York last week to participate in the Method, which is a "series of exercises designed to heighten participants' awareness of their physical and mental experience in the present moment." Abramovic, whom you've also seen show up in JAY Z's "Picasso Baby" performance art film that was filmed from his hours-long performance at the New York's Pace Gallery in July, has launched a Kickstarter fund to further develop the MAI. (The Institute is dedicated to long - read: six hours or more - performances.) In an interview with New York Magazine's Vulture, the New York artist - who was born in Serbia and began her career in the early '70s - said that she's pleased at the overlap she's seeing between pop culture and performance art. "For me, it’s very important that the rapper community and the Twitter [community] actually start Googling to understand what performance art is," she said. "It’s really important that I can shift the public from the one field [i.e., pop music] to the arts, which rarely happens." The JAY Z performance, she continued, was a "really very meaningful thing." Lady Gaga would likely agree, given that her next album is called "ARTPOP." The first single from the record is expected to drop on August 19, ahead of her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25. click [http://adeyemidavid..com/2013/08/lady-gaga-goes-naked.html]
