A presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, yesterday, urged party delegates to choose wisely during the presidential primary, in the interest of the future of the country.

Tinubu, who met with APC delegates in Ondo State, said he is the best choice for the country.

His words: “My running is not because I need pockets of money; that has passed. I am running because of my love for the country, my people, commitment to development, and giving value to education and a better future for our children.“I’m a better thinker and a better doer. I want to be delegated to distinguish us and separate us like a dip of kerosene on top of the water.

“Many of us are running, running for doing it or doing it is a promise. If not delivered, you will suffer a setback.

I, Bola Tinubu, am the sole runner. I know the way, I have seen it. I did it in Lagos. I turned the IGR around. The state is now a reference point. I’ll rebuild and unite, and develop Nigeria. We’ll use our diversity for prosperity rather than division.

“I will serve Nigeria. I am promising you that Nigerians will see the performance. Just choose me. I can do it, I have done it you can see the model in Lagos.

“When they talk about my health, I tell them, I’m not looking for a wrestling job, I don’t want to beat Ronaldo

“I’m ready to serve Nigeria and I promise that Nigeria will see prosperity and performance because I have done it before.”

Fresh details of the reasons former governor of Anambra State, and presidential aspirant, Mr Peter Obi, resigned from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and quit seeking the party’s 2023 presidential ticket emerged yesterday.

Some governors elected on the platform of the party practically pushed him out of the PDP, after a high-wire game of intrigues, and conspiracy, Vanguard gathered last night.

Obi, who was the vice-presidential candidate of the party in 2019, during which his South-East zone contributed more votes to the PDP than the North-East, the zone of the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was left with nothing after the power game, it was learned.

In 2019, with Obi on the ballot as running mate to Atiku, the PDP garnered 1,693,485 votes (75 per cent) from the five states of the South-East; and 1,255,357 votes (27.5 per cent) from the North-East.Conversely, the APC polled 403,968 votes (19 per cent) in the South-East and 3,238,783 votes (67.5 per cent) in the North-East.

A top player in the power game in the PDP told Vanguard that “Obi was hoping to emerge as the running mate to Atiku again since the PDP, from all indications, is not ready to cede the presidency to the South-East.“However, most of the PDP governors said they will back Atiku if he makes one of them his running mate. This led to a highwire conspiracy against Obi in the PDP. So he had to look elsewhere to pursue his aspirations.”

Indeed, in his resignation letter to the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the former Anambra State governor said he was quitting the PDP because the party had made it impossible for him to continue to contribute to nation-building on its platform.

Obi wrote: “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2. Anaocha LGA, Anambra, effective Friday 20 May 2022. Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP Presidential Primaries.

“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions

“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.”

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Thursday stated that the security level in Abuja has been increased ahead of the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The presidential primary of the main opposition party has been fixed for Saturday and Sunday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The electoral process would see delegates from across the country travel down to participate in the elections.

Sunday stated that the command has designed a robust security arrangement defined by the deployment of officers’ across the city, ahead of the primary elections.

The commissioner of police in FCT, Babaji Sunday, while addressing the Divisional Police Officers, and heads of various Tactical and Intelligence Units of the Command said the deployment prioritised the protection of lives and property of all residents during and after the exercise.

Sunday said, “The Peoples Democratic Party’s primary election is scheduled to hold from May 28 to May 29 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The event is projected to be characterised by a high influx of people into the Federal Capital Territory.

“Consequent upon the above and in a bid to ensure a hitch-free event, the FCT Police Command has designed a robust security arrangement defined by a generous deployment within and without the election ground and to every nook and cranny of the territory.

“The deployment prioritises the protection of lives and property of all and sundry by emplacing counter-insurgency measures, maintenance of clear road access, robust stop-and-search at strategic points around the suburbs and city centre, effective crowd control, and intelligence gathering but to mention a few.”....

The Indigenous People of Biafra has warned the Coalition of Northern Groups against embarking on killing any Igbo, saying they should not embark on a fight that would not end.

The organisation was reacting to threats by the CNG to retaliate against the alleged killing of their kinsmen in the South-East.

“The North will no longer remain passive under such deliberate and sustained attacks on its people and interests, and will henceforth be forced to react to every provocation and unwarranted violation.

“The North’s reticence in speaking out or taking action is not born of fear or ignorance of how to respond in kind and those who tempt us should know that the North is no longer going to turn the other cheek”, the Spokesperson of CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, had said.

But the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, in an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday night said they had no hand in the alleged killing of a Hausa woman who was with her children.

Powerful said, “We have many things in our hands to respond to this group called CNG because they are nonissue; we are expecting them to start killing in Nigeria and see our position.

“We remain peaceful in our pursuit for Biafra freedom and if they could not call the criminals they brought in our land and thinking we can run for them, they are jokers, let them start this fight and see what the end will look like.

“IPOB has nothing whatsoever to do with the death of a Hausa woman who was with her children on Sunday and we strongly condemn the dastard act by criminals sponsored by Northern politicians.

“Before they threatened us, they should, first of all, remove those terrorists and bandits transferred into Obinze barracks in Owerri, Imo State where they operate from and they were brought to kill and murder and blame it on peaceful IPOB and ESN.

“They are sharing them with ID cards to operate and the world must ask the military why they were giving these terrorist cards for identification.

“The Army was giving them coverage, if these people kidnap, the military will provide them with a place they will keep their victims and bring someone who will receive ransom from victims relatives or family members.

“IPOB and ESN did not kill anybody talk of Hausa woman with children, it’s is an abomination to kill women, children, school children, and pregnant women. We are not like them who plucked out babies from Igbo pregnant women in 1966 and 1970.

“The type of killing going on in our land now is the type Fulani terrorists kill and type of beheading. There is no iota of truth in what they are saying that IPOB hates Hausas living in our territory. What IPOB is after are Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen who are raping our mothers, wives, and sisters in our bushes and forests.”....
