OYC urged the anti-graft agency to revisit the N7.1 billion money laundering case against former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu. The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to ensure the prosecution of political looters in the country. The Igbo youth group, in a statement on Tuesday, urged the anti-graft agency to revisit the N7.1 billion money laundering case against former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu. Addressing journalists in Abuja, shortly after the court remanded Governor Rochas Okorocha on five counts bordering on 1.2 billion fraud and money laundering, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the National President of the OYC, urged President Buhari to launch "Operation Financial Crime clean-up" in Nigeria and subsequently jail all political looters in the country before he leaves office in 2023. Igboayaka, who bemoaned the rate of impunity among political office holders, said "criminals ought to pay for their crimes". According to him, corrupt politicians who are guilty of embezzlement and all other forms of misappropriation of public funds amid impunity are like the regular fully armed criminals who steal without minding the consequences of their crime. The Igbo youth organisation explained that part of the reasons for the agitation by pro-Biafran groups is because Igbo governors looted the local government funds meant for rural development in 1999 and left the people in abject penury. According to the group, "a government that is devoid of corruption is that government that has outright, zero tolerance for crime and criminality, irrespective of whose 'ox is gored'". He said: "The likes of Orji Uzor Kalu are the reason for unemployment, poverty and insecurity in Southeast. The evidence of what is happening in the East today is the remote cause of Orji Uzor Kalu maladministration. There's no doubt that Abia State is the most backward state in the Southeast, courtesy of Orji Uzor Kalu." Furthermore, Igboayaka asked the EFCC under the leadership of its former chairman, Ibrahim Magu to explain to Nigerians how Orji Uzor Kalu was released from jail, stressing the principle and ethics of EFCC were compromised. "We can't continue to live in a country of drama over serious matters treated with levity. It's a truism that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu was facing a trial with two others on alleged 1.7bn fraud, yet the case was swept under the carpet. "Unfortunately, we're living in a country where few individuals have looted the economic life-span of Nigeria yet they move freely in public places. In a sane civil society, the likes of Orji Uzor Kalu shouldn't be walking freely, after being found guilty of mismanagement of Abia State local government funds. "I, therefore, call on Abdulrasheed Bawa the fourth respected Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to quickly revisit Senator Orji Uzor Kalu's N7.1 billion fraud to give justice a face of justice. "With the greed and primitive looting that characterized the person of Orji Uzor Kalu, I urge Abdulrasheed Bawa to undergo a fresh financial investigation on the past financial activities of Abia State under the then leadership of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu beginning from 1999 to 2007 when he was the governor of Abia. “I also appeal to President Mohammadu Buhari to keep a lasting historical legacy by jailing all political criminals in Nigeria,” Igboayaka added..... https://saharareporters.com/2022/05/31/former-abia-governor-orji-kalu-other-political-looters-should-be-jail-ohanaeze-youths

During the meeting held at State House, Abuja, Buhari told the governors that decisions that would enable the party to retain power at the centre should be taken. The meeting came amid speculations that the president may anoint an aspirant before the convention. Apart from former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, other aspirants are the Senate President Ahmad Lawan and former ministers Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Godswill Akpabio, and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba. Serving governors who are also aspiring to be president are Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa). Others are former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former House of Representatives Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, and serving senators Ibikunle Amosun, Ajayi Boroffice, and Rochas Okorocha. President Buhari’s running mate in 2011, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Uju Ken-Ohanenye, Nicholas Felix, Ahmad Rufai Sani, Tein Jack-Rich, Ikeobasi Mokelu are also expected to face the party’s presidential screening panel. He also charged the governors to ensure that the forthcoming convention to pick a presidential candidate reflects all the values and virtues of the party. He said, “The processes for the 2023 General Elections have commenced in earnest and I note that the most successful political parties globally have always relied on their internal cohesion and a strong leadership brand to achieve bigger electoral fortunes. Our party, the APC, shall not be any different, more so as we are still implementing the blueprint for a more prosperous nation.... https://punchng.com/primary-what-buhari-told-apc-governors-national-chairman/?amp

Reason why we need to educate the masses of the dangers of voting corrupt leaders/ corruption as head of our national government. PDP Delegates Auction Atiku Abubakar $20,000 (12 million) Nylson Wike $15,000 (9 million) Bukola Saraki $10,000 (6 million) Aminu Waziri Tambuwal $10,000 (6 million). ----- SaharaReporters Respectively, if you multiply the above dollar/Naira amounts by the 774 LGA delegates participating in the PDP National Convention Today you will understand why Peter Obi left PDP. See the narration below; Atiku Abubakar $20,000 (12 million) × 774 Delegates = $15,480,000/N9,288,000,000. Nylson Wike $15,000 (9 million) × 774 Delegates= $11,610,000/N6,966,000,000. Bukola Saraki $10,000 (6 million) × 774 Delegates = $7,740,000/N4,644,000,000. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal $10,000 (6 million) × 774 Delegates = $7,740,000/N4,644,000,000. Somebody is spending over N9billion just on the delegates. Probably, the entire election budget for the office of Nigeria President may cost as much as $100m/N60,000,000,000. And the person would mount the podium, swear to an oath and promise us good governance. Bala Hassan Gusau |

Djinee Singer and media personality, Osayamwen Donald, aka Djinee, is one artiste who is rarely in the news except for his music career. In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he noted that it is intentional. He said, “No one is a saint. I have just tried to keep my circle small. I am that artiste that came out looking to sell only my music and nothing else. I just make and sell music. There is nothing else I want to sell. Of course, my image is important; that is why I will try to dress well. Some people (entertainers) want to sell other things because they think those other things will get people talking (about them), and they consider that to be more important than the ‘core’ work they do. However, I am not judging them; they are doing their thing. But for me, the beauty and essence of my music far outweighs other things. There is nothing I have done wrong that is interesting.” Speaking on his current projects, he said, “I have been recording and releasing music. I have a song titled, Pamper (remix), on which I featured MI Abaga and Immaculate. I have also been doing a bit of travelling in and outside the country for performances and recording, but that is basically the life of an artiste. For those that thought I had quit music, they are wrong. Thankfully, everything is online now, so you (fans) can always know when I release new music.” https://punchng.com/how-ive-stayed-away-from-scandals-djinee/?amp

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has condemned the killing of a pregnant woman identified as Harira Jubril and her four children in Anambra State, saying their killers must be exposed to avert a recurrence. The children were identified as Fatima, Aisha, Hadiza, and Zaituna. The victims, who are of northern extraction, were reportedly killed at Isulo, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state last Sunday. In an article on Saturday, Soyinka said Nigerians – including himself – would know the killers of the woman and her children and therefore, they should be exposed. The Nobel laureate said he would not be attending an engagement with a school in Anambra State scheduled for August to honour those who were killed. Soyinka wrote, “So, it has happened! No one can claim it was nowhere fearfully expected, but one dared hope that the ugly, abominable word “reprisal” would remain locked down within the dark pit of primitivism hidden in the Nigerian psyche. I decided to edit out the warning expression of that fear from my recent Abuja statement – this was a concession to a superstitious fear, that “giving it voice” could set off the zombie trigger in the homicidally inclined. Then of course one would be held responsible for inserting the notion in the heads of others. “We all know however that these retarded minds are ever present among us, and only await the most trivial excuse to actualise their innermost craving. From the pronouncements of even those who claim to be men of God, we are left in no doubt that such craving receives endorsement from across the human spectrum. Where they cannot act, they incite others to fulfill their credo of morbidity. “The horror that was recently afflicted on the people of Anambra and the rest of us was redoubled for me personally because the news reached me outside the country while I was participating in an event of youth empowerment – a college graduation ceremony. The anticipated question surfaced again and again: What kind of mind is capable of such bestiality? “And yet it happens, again and again. We know who these killers are, they live among us. Sometimes I undergo the feeling that I actually know them, that I have encountered them, have heard them and perhaps even read them. And we know that unless they are pre-emptively denounced and exposed, they will strike and strike again. Their actions reduce us all, tarnish us, and question our humanity. “At the Abuja event, exactly a week ago, I proposed the need to develop the collective sense of a Lowest Common Denominator in the seizure of our humanity. Any act that attempts to drag us below, or remove that rung of the human ladder should be answered by a total community shutdown – or other equivalence - of its own accord, until that rung is fully reclaimed. The Anambra infanticidal orgy is one such. Deborah Samuel’s mob immolation was another. Response to such abominations transcends the mandatory functions of security agencies. “The act constitutes a breach in community ramparts and should be answered by collective action. Again, I insist that it is long past time to move beyond pious denunciations – essential, yes, but insufficient. We simply must devise ways of making our revulsion so stark, unambiguous, and inclusive. Only then will such pollutants of civic consciousness be brought to rethink, come to understand that it is not just the immediate family, friends and colleagues whose humanity is thus violated, but the totality of cohabitants. “I admitted, in Abuja, that I nearly cancelled that engagement as an expression of that revulsion, and in solidarity with the bereaved. In the end, I decided that this would not be the right gesture. It so happens that I also have an engagement in Anambra, at a school where, for all I know, the children of Mr. Jibril Ahmed were enrolled, or would soon be enrolled, a sanctuary of learning for the one yet in the womb of the murdered Harira. It need not have been that very institution, but it is to just such a place of creative formation that they were all innately predetermined. “Collective action is not always easy to come by – except of course by coercion, which is what we are witnessing in the activities of militant groups in the East. That, however, is not the issue, this being a crossroads that the Anambra people will navigate themselves. The cold-blooded murders of guests in our home is however not merely a national issue but a violation of the much touted values of the black race. We must begin somewhere, “draw a line” - however individual and limited. I totally repudiate the killing of guests, of the unarmed, of innocents, the vulnerable, indeed, the murder of humanity. “This time, I believe the decision is right, the moment compelling. In empathy with those innocents whose scholastic careers have been so brutally annulled, I serve notice of cancellation of that engagement with the Anambra school, scheduled for August. The deaths of those innocents cannot be reversed, but we must begin, even yesterday, the process of reversing the mental trajectory that makes death from innocence the current norm of national existence.” https://saharareporters.com/2022/05/28/killers-pregnant-woman-harira-four-children-anambra-are-known-they-must-be-exposed-%E2%80%93

According to the delegates' list obtained by SaharaReporters on Saturday, 773 delegates are confirmed in the booklet but about 810 delegates are expected to decide the fate of the aspirants. Opposition Party (PDP), has completed the accreditation of voters at its ongoing convention in Abuja to elect its presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections. The delegates of the party consist of one national delegate elected from each of the 774 local government areas and one special delegate per state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from among persons living with disabilities, making 811. Documents seen by SaharaReporters showed that 17 delegates will be voting from Ondo State despite having 18 LGAs. No national delegate was elected from Ese-Odo area council of the state. All delegates emerged during the LGAs congress conducted by the party on Tuesday, May 10. Section 84( of the Electoral Act states: “A political party that adopts the system of indirect primaries for the choice of its candidate shall clearly outline in its constitution and rule the procedure for the democratic election of delegates to vote at the convention, congress or meeting.”This means only delegates elected for that purpose can vote at the convention. The party had earlier announced that it would make use of only the three-man ad-hoc delegates elected from all the over 8,000 wards in the country and one elected national delegate per local government to pick its election candidates. However, under the PDP’s constitution, the three-man ad-hoc ward delegates can only participate in the election of candidates for state, national assembly and gubernatorial positions and not participate in the national convention. The aspirants participating in the convention include former vice president, Atiku Abubakar; former Senate Presidents, Bukola Saraki and Pius Anyim; Bauchi and Sokoto State Governors, Bala Mohammed and Aminu Tambuwal. Others are ; River State Governor, Nyesom Wike; pharmacist, Sam Ohabunwa, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, among others..... https://saharareporters.com/2022/05/28/pdp-convention-accreditation-773-national-delegates-completed-voting-commences-decide

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has dumped the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Abaribe equally resigned from his position in the national assembly as the Senate Minority Leader. Recall that he withdrew from the PDP governorship primaries scheduled on Wednesday, citing imaginary delegates list, lack of transparency as reasons for his withdrawal. However, in a separate letters to the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the President of the Senate in the National Assembly Abaribe cited reasons of illegality, impunity and hesitations in decision-making for his decision to dump the party. In a letter titled “Resignation of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,” addressed to the party ward Chairman, Abaribe said: , “I write to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of (the) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “This development is consequent upon the shameful display of illegality, impunity and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my constituents.” Resigning as a member of the party in the upper chamber of the national assembly and the minority leader in the senate addressed to the President of the Senate, Senator Lawan Ahmed, Abaribe in a letter titled, “Notification of Resignation from the Membership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Senate,” said: “This is to notify you and my dear colleagues in the Senate that I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party through my ward. This also means my resignation as (the) Minority Leader of the Senate.” “I wish to thank you and my dear colleagues in the Leadership of the Senate for the warm camaraderie we enjoyed while I was Minority Leader.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/breaking-abaribe-dumps-pdp-resigns-as-senate-minority-leader/
