Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) yesterday arrested an American citizen with firearms at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.

The male passenger, who arrived in the country aboard a United Airlines flight from Houston, United States at 10:10am, was said to have checked in the firearms.

He was also said to be in possession of two international passports: Nigerian and American.
A source told our correspondent that the American did not declare the firearms as stipulated in international laws on firearms carriage.Another source said the passenger had some documents from the U.S, which allowed him to carry firearms, but the authenticity of the papers could not be ascertained.

The source said: “Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted the passenger with the firearms during screening. So far, he is undergoing scrutiny from the officials of the service and will be handed over to the relevant authorities after interrogation.

“We learnt that the passenger with dual citizenship has the approval of the US Government to carry firearms, but such should have been declared at the port of entry, which he didn’t do. However, we are yet to verify the documents he’s carrying.”...

Edwards said she is going to use her winnings to buy a house and start a nonprofit organization.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Muslim group said Osinbajo’s presidential declaration was not only unethical but was also evangelical in appearance.


The statement was signed by its founder and Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement reads, “The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday declared his intention to run for the post of president in the coming 2023 general elections. This declaration, to our mind, will not pass any ethical screening. It is purely evangelical.

“But MURIC cannot keep quiet after Osinbajo’s declaration because it is not in consonance with our agenda for the South West. We have never hidden this agenda from public view as it was made public as far back as February 2021 when we declared our preference for a Yoruba Muslim president.”

MURIC reiterated its call for a Yoruba Muslim President in 2023.

He added: “We anchored our cassus belli for this preference on the persecution of Yoruba Muslims by their Christian neighbours and we rationalised that we need a Yoruba Muslim as president of Nigeria in order to liberate Yoruba Muslims from decades of marginalisation, impoverishment, oppression, persecution, tyranny and injustice. This is a struggle we cannot abandon at this crucial stage.

“The Yoruba people and the political parties should also consider another interesting angle in this matter, namely, the preponderance of Ogun State indigenes among those Yorubas who have been in Aso Rock. All four are from one state (Ogun State). Three were from Abeokuta to be precise. Osinbajo is from Ikenne. Why must all Yoruba rulers of Nigeria come from Ogun State alone? What happened to spread? What happened to balancing? Where is inclusivity (sic) in the monopoly of leadership by one state?

“MURIC is not worried by this but we think Osinbajo should mellow down and give someone from another state the chance to rule. We are resolved not to vote for the rallying point of our oppressors.”.......

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike said insecurity in Nigeria would be effectively tackled if a courageous person is elected as President.


The governor spoke on Monday while addressing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates on Monday in Maiduguri.

He declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) have failed in tackling insecurity and economic problems.

Wike said citizens can no longer go to their farm and some other places due to fear of being kidnapped or killed.

“Nigeria is dying and we must not allow Nigeria to die. We must rescue this country.

“I believe that Nigeria has hope. So, I want to run for the presidency of this country under the PDP.

“We were only hearing of insecurity in Borno, but now it is all over. Hunger doesn’t know Muslims or Christians; insecurity does not know North or South.

“We need somebody who have the courage to fight insecurity in this country and I want to tell you that I have that courage,” he said.


PDP Chairman in the State, Zanna Gaddama hailed Wike for challenging the ruling APC on matters that affect the people across Nigeria.

Gaddama urged party faithful to support the governor to get the PDP presidential ticket..

The Federal Capital Police Command has arrested at least 98 scavengers popularly known as ‘baban bola’ over alleged stealing of residents’ properties.


Parading the suspects on Monday at the command’s headquarters, the Deputy Police Commissioner, DCP Ben Igwe said Abuja is not for everybody, he revealed that the command would deport the suspects to their states of origin.

The DCP told journalists that some strange persons have been trooping into the nation’s capital, stating that the command is working towards eradicating such personalities from Abuja

He said, “Abuja is not for everybody. We have asked them to go to where they are supposed to be.


“We are working towards clearing them from the FCT. We will keep doing that and we will not relent.

“We recovered from them several things that they are not supposed to scavenge. They steal properties while claiming to scavenge refuses.

“We have asked them to relocate. Many people have been trooping into the FCT. And some of them are coming with evil intentions. Whenever you see them, let us know.

“We are taking them to court to make sure that justice is given. We have a serious issue now because of threats from so many places”.
