Car TalkAlmost Bought A Stolen Car In Lagos – 7 Hard Truths I Wish I Knew Earlier by Easyinfoguide(op):
I’ll never forget that day. The car was fine. Too fine, in fact.
2013 Camry. Smooth ride. Neatly sprayed. The seller said “registered first owner” and sounded confident enough to be a pastor.

I didn’t suspect anything… until I mentioned I wanted to “run a quick check” on the car.
Boom. The guy switched tone like NEPA light —

> “Oga if you no wan buy am, abeg leave am. Na serious buyer I dey find.”

Long story short, that car had issues. Police report wahala. Possibly stolen.
I dodged a bullet — and I’m still shaking when I think about what could have happened.

That experience opened my eyes.
I started asking car dealers, customs officers, even policemen questions. I gathered facts, receipts, and confessions.

And then I realized: many Nigerians have made costlier mistakes. Some still don’t know their "new car" is flagged or recycled.

So I put together a short, no-BS checklist for first-time or repeat car buyers in Nigeria.

---

✅ 7 Hard Truths in the Guide:

1. Why “Registered First Owner” means NOTHING without 1 crucial document

2. The 1 type of car dealers don’t want you to verify before paying

3. How to know if a car has ever been used for crime (even if it looks clean)

4. What to do before sending your mechanic (they miss this 80% of the time)

5. A free tool to check if your future car was stolen, flagged, or fake-imported

6. Tinted Glass wahala: how to avoid roadside extortion after buying

7. Bonus: how to negotiate price like a boss (even if you know nothing about cars)

>
---

I’m giving the guide out free — no strings attached.
It’s saved people from buying problem cars, and I believe it’ll help more people here too.

> If you’re buying a car anytime soon (or helping someone who is), just drop a comment or check my profile for how to get it.

---

💬 PS:

I’m not a “guru” — just someone who almost messed up and decided to learn properly.
If this saves even one person here, it’s worth it.

Ask questions below.
(But abeg no ask for Range Rover under ₦2M again 😅)

I’ve gone through it, and unfortunately, this particular one may not be accepted for the tinted permit process. It’s either outdated or missing some of the key details they usually look out for.

To avoid any delay or rejection, I strongly suggest using a properly structured and recent medical report.
If you’d like, I can assist you with getting one that’s already set up to meet their standard — no stress.

🔥 Thread Update — More Insights From the Field (2025 Edition)

Hey guys, just circling back with fresh updates based on over 30+ DMs and convos I’ve had since this thread went up. 👇

✅ **Medical Report Validity**
If your report was done more than a year ago, especially before 2023, it *may* no longer be accepted — depending on who handles your biometrics. Best practice? Get a recent one with the right police clinic stamp. (Let me know if you’re unsure what it should look like.)

✅ **After Payment, What Next?**
Once your payment is confirmed, don’t expect the capture date SMS to drop immediately. Give it 2–3 working days. Still pending after that? There are **tested workarounds** I can explain — they’ve helped others avoid delays or rejections.

✅ **Car Not in Your Name? No Wahala.**
Some of you are using company cars, your dad’s, or even imported rides with paper still in someone else’s name. Yes, there’s a *clean* way to apply without drama — it's not public info, but I’ve helped folks handle it quietly.

📌 Summary:
- Tinted Permit is for **both factory & film tint** 🚘
- Permit is tied to **the vehicle**, not just you
- **Biometrics is compulsory**, except in rare backend cases
- You don’t *have* to go through stress if you know the route 💡

---

🙏 If you’ve tried and got stuck, or want to skip the stress, I’ve put together a step-by-step guide (PDF) that’s helped folks avoid wasting time or paying agents blindly.

Feel free to **quote me or send a DM** if you need direction or assistance — whether you’re doing it yourself or want it handled for you.

Appreciate everyone sharing their stories — will keep updating this post with anything new I discover on the field.

Can non factory tinted cars apply?
Is it legal?

post=135686763]Lool the number of DMs I’ve received ehn 😅
Thanks, guys — glad the post is helping.

Just to clarify based on the questions I’ve seen:

✅ The permit is tied to the specific car, not your name.
✅ Factory-tinted or not, the fee is the same.
✅ Biometrics is usually required — but not everyone wants to go to Alagbon, especially if the car is not in their name.
✅ And yes, if you have 5 cars, you go through the process 5 times. 😂

If you’re stuck or want a shortcut through the maze — I dey here, just send a message.
Some people just need clarification, some need full help — we dey sort both.
Yes, non-factory tinted cars can apply.

As long as your car has any form of tint that reduces visibility into the vehicle — whether it's factory-fitted or aftermarket — you are legally required to obtain a Police Tinted Glass Permit in Nigeria.

The key point is visibility — if the tint affects how clearly someone can see inside the vehicle from outside, then it must be registered, and a permit must be obtained.

✅ It is legal to tint your car — but only if you get the proper police approval and permit.
❌ Driving with tinted glass without the permit can lead to harassment, fines, or even vehicle impoundment during checks.

The permit process is open to both types:

Factory-tinted (usually SUVs & some sedans)

Aftermarket-tinted (tinted films applied manually)

If you're not sure whether your tint qualifies or not, I can take a quick look or help you process it the right way.

Let me know if you’d like more details or full assistance.

Bro

My payment is confirmed, what's the next thing to do, am I waiting to get message to go for capturing?
Yes bro, once payment has been confirmed and your documents are in order, the next stage is usually waiting for biometric capture (photo + fingerprint).

From what I’ve seen, it can take anywhere between 1 to 3 working days for the system to trigger the SMS or email for capture — especially if you're applying directly through the portal.

But here’s the thing: even when it's still showing “Pending,” you can print out your application slip or save a screenshot — that’s what I advise anyone driving a tinted car to carry with them for now, just in case you get stopped.

Also, if after 3–4 working days nothing comes up, it might mean the system didn’t schedule it properly — and that’s where a lot of people get stuck. There are ways to sort it, but it depends on the exact issue.

If you want, I can help you look into it. Just let me know.

@Ojukwu4real

Sorry for your loss bro. If the vehicle papers are still in your late brother’s name and you don’t have a Letter of Administration (LOA) yet, here are your current 3 options:

Option 1: Proceed With Available Papers
If you have valid:

Original vehicle license

Insurance

Roadworthiness (if applicable)

Plate number tied to that name

You can apply as-is, using his name. Just be consistent across all details and expect questions during capturing. Some have succeeded this way.

Option 2: Add an Affidavit + Police Report
You can draft an Affidavit of Usage and possibly a Police Report stating the vehicle is in your possession pending LOA. This may help smoothen approval if asked later.

Option 3: Use a Trusted Service Provider (if urgent)
Some experts who handle these cases daily can help push it through faster, even if documentation isn't perfect. But always verify legitimacy. (I can connect you to someone if needed.)

Let me know which way you want to go — I’ll assist as best as I can.

Quick Recap: Frequently Asked Questions About Tinted Glass Permit Registration in 2025

I’ve noticed a few repeating questions on this thread. Hope this helps someone new:

Q1: Do I need a permit if my car has factory-tinted glass?
✅ Yes. Factory or film tint — the Police still require a permit.

Q2: My portal is stuck after payment or says “pending.” What do I do?
🔁 Wait 24–72 hours. Then retry login. If issue persists, clear browser cache or use another browser/device.

Q3: Where can I do capturing in Lagos?
📍 Try Ikeja SIB, Alagbon, or some Area Commands. Onikan is not always active lately.

Q4: I’m using my late dad/brother’s car. Can I still apply?
☑️ Yes, but you may need a workaround. Scroll below 👇 for a detailed answer.

Q5: Can I pay someone to handle the full process?
🧾 Yes — some people offer legit services. But if you want to do it yourself, I compiled an easy-to-follow guide (PDF).

You can DM or quote me for help. I’ll keep updating this post with anything new I find.
Car TalkRe: How I Registered My Tinted Glass Permit In Nigeria (2025 Guide) by Easyinfoguide(op): 2:32pm On Jun 09, 2025
Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone. 🙏
I’ve seen questions like:

“Is the permit tied to a specific car?”

“What if I’m using someone else’s document?”

“Do I need to go for biometrics myself?”

I’ve been dealing with this process for a while — and to be honest, the official portal works sometimes, but the real challenge is in the details: documents, biometric scheduling, name mismatches, factory tint cases, etc.

I’m not here to sell anything publicly — but if you genuinely need assistance (whether guidance, or a full hands-off arrangement), I’m happy to help however I can. Just drop a message.

P.S. For those who asked: Yes, every car needs its own permit. It’s not transferable.

Ojukwu4real:
Please can I get the tint permit on a vehicle that has documents on my late elder brother's name but I am the one presently using the vehicle?
If your car has factory tint, you might be exempt from paying the permit fee. When you reach the official page:

Look for an option to declare “factory tint.”

Have your car documents ready to prove it’s factory-installed.

Upload proof if asked.

If no exemption option is shown, contact the office to confirm.

Don’t pay the fee unless you’re sure it’s required.

Ojukwu4real:

Sorry for your loss.

Yes, you can still apply for the Tinted Glass Permit if you are the current user of the vehicle, but you will need to show proof that you have legal authority to use the car.

Typically, that means having a letter of administration, probate, or official documents that prove you’ve inherited or have permission to use the vehicle.

If you don’t have those documents, you may face challenges during the application or when the police check for your permit.

It’s best to first ensure the vehicle ownership or usage rights are properly transferred or legalized, then proceed with the permit application.

If you want, I can share the steps and documents needed to make the process smoother.

Pls which state did you do capturing, I picked onikan SIB 2, on getting there, I was told they don't do it there
Ah, that’s unfortunate. Onikan SIB 2 used to handle capturing but in recent months, they’ve stopped attending to most permit applicants — especially for new or individual requests.

Best thing now is to:

Call ahead or confirm through someone who recently went to the location before going physically.

Alternatively, pick a state CID or command HQ where capturing is still active.

Some of the more reliable centres currently include:

Alagbon (for Lagos)

State CID Panti

Zone 2, Onikan (sometimes)

And several other centres outside Lagos that are still active.

If you're not sure where to go based on your location, just let me know — I can help check and guide you through the best option for smooth capturing 👍🏽

Hi boss, no worries at all. That sometimes happens when the session times out after payment.

Please try the following steps:

1. Go back to the same portal link you used earlier.

2. Log in again using your correct details (email/phone and password if applicable).

3. Once logged in, check the “My Applications” or “Dashboard” section to see if the payment was recorded.

If you're still logged out or nothing is showing:

Kindly wait 10–15 minutes, then refresh and check again.

If the issue persists, send me a screenshot of the error or log-in screen. I’ll help guide you further.

You’re not alone — it’s a common issue and it usually resolves quickly. Let’s get it sorted 👍🏽

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I truly understand your concern.

Just to clarify for the benefit of others reading this thread — the ₦40,000 mentioned isn’t just for “capturing.” It’s a non-appearance, full-package fee that covers everything from documentation to submission, handling of delays, and assistance with approvals without requiring your physical presence.

It’s optional — not everyone needs it. Many people use our self-help InfoGuide (₦5,500 only) and complete the process themselves successfully. But for those who are either unavailable for biometric capturing or want someone to handle the entire process end-to-end, the full-service option is available.

We’re here to make it easier, not exploit anyone. That’s why I also posted the DIY guide for free awareness in the first place. 🙏🏽

✔️ If your name is on the car documents but your wife is the main user, you can still process the permit in your name and hand over the papers for her to carry while driving.

✔️ If you won’t be available for biometrics, then yes — there’s a legit “non-appearance” route that some officers allow, depending on your location and supporting documents. It's not officially advertised, but it does happen (quietly).

A few things will help smooth the process:

Clear car ownership proof

Valid NIN

Reason for tint that’s easy to justify (e.g. medical or factory-fitted)

I recently compiled a full step-by-step guide that breaks down how this works — including non-appearance, agent use, and real examples from others who’ve succeeded.

If you're seriously considering that route, I can point you in the right direction.

vivalavida:
This your info dey somehow oo
On twitter, the police handle tweeted that wether factory tint or not, as far as there is tint, it is #14,200
I am wondering where you got this your own narrative from. I did the application and chose factory tinted yet I was given a bill of #14,200 to pay on the possap.ng website page. Although I have not paid yet.
@vivalavida, you’re absolutely right — that ₦14,200 shows up for almost everyone who applies, regardless of the reason selected.

But here’s the real gist: ✔️ The POSSAP portal auto-generates that same ₦14,200 invoice for all categories — even if you select “factory-fitted,” “medical,” or “security.”
✔️ What actually determines your final processing and approval often comes after payment — during document upload and internal screening. That’s when your reason and supporting docs matter most (e.g. medical report, proof of factory tint, etc).

Many people don’t realize the ₦14,200 fee is just the beginning — and depending on the state or officer in charge, other “hidden” steps or delays may pop up.

That’s part of why I compiled the full steps (and real-life examples) into a guide — so people don’t get stuck or end up paying multiple times unnecessarily.

If you need clarity before you proceed with payment, I can share what to expect depending on your state and tint reason. It’ll save you time, trust me.

Nice post.

But no links provided

No cost breakdown
@baratech, solid observation.

I’ve actually had to go through this process myself for personal use and for helping a few folks recently. From experience:

✔️ The actual portal is free, but you’ll still need to sort out things like: – Medical report (for medical reasons): ₦3k–₦10k depending on where you go
– Printing/scanning/NIN linking
– And of course, the wait time after application can be confusing if you’re not familiar with the steps.

For anyone going DIY, it’s doable but a bit technical — especially if you're dealing with Lagos or Abuja offices.

That’s why I put together a detailed walk-through guide that simplifies the whole process (from the online application down to the follow-up steps and red flags to avoid). I didn’t want to clutter the main post, but if enough people are interested, I can quietly share the outline or a clean version.

I also help review documents (medical reports, pending statuses, etc) — so if you’re stuck, feel free to ask. I don’t mind helping with clarity, especially now that the process is stricter.

UPDATE: New Steps & Lessons from My Tinted Glass Permit Application (June 2025)

Just a quick update for those still navigating the tinted glass permit process in 2025.

After going through the full process myself (and helping a few friends with theirs), here are some extra details that might save you stress:

✅ Application Timing
Submit your documents early in the week (Mon–Wed) to avoid weekend delays. The system sometimes delays approvals if you apply on a Friday or weekend.

✅ Pending Status? Don’t Panic
If your portal shows “pending” after uploading documents, it’s normal. Mine took 2 days. Just make sure you print and carry your Application Code slip when driving.

✅ Medical Report Tip (for medical reasons)
For those applying under “medical reasons,” a simple report from a recognized private clinic or general hospital works — especially in Lagos. Your report should state why tint is medically advised (e.g., eye sensitivity, photosensitivity, etc.). Keep it simple and clear.

✅ Company Vehicle Registration?
Yes, company-registered vehicles can apply. But make sure your supporting documents (RC, insurance, etc.) match the company name exactly.

✅ Mistake on the Portal?
If you made an error or uploaded the wrong document, you can still correct it by resubmitting. But sometimes, it's best to reapply with a new email if it’s stuck.

---

Hope this helps someone. The process isn't perfect, but it's way better than running into issues with the police for tinted windows.

Feel free to share your own experience or ask questions — we learn from each other.

You aren't correct about company registered vehicles. It doesnt ask for your CAC documents which would have been the more logical way to do it but we don't use logic, we use the path of most pain.

It requires you to input your company Tax Identification Number which then populates the form with the details of the company and if you no longer use the number or email on file with FIRS then you will not receive the OTP to continue and you have to visit FIRS to update your details!

At a point, I was just going to remove the tints than go through this nonsense with the police but I remembered the hot abuja sun and continued the process
Bro 😂 you just summarised the Nigerian public service experience in one line:

> “We don’t use logic, we use the path of most pain.”

And you’re absolutely right about the company vehicles. That TIN-FIRS OTP wahala has humbled many.
The system should just ask for CAC docs and let you upload — simple. But no, we must suffer small before we’re allowed to be lawful citizens 😅

I’ve seen people almost give up and yank off their tint — until that Abuja sun reminds them who’s boss.

At the end of the day, once you fight through the madness and complete the process, it’s worth it — peace of mind on the road >>> headache at checkpoints.
